The coaches will select the squad from the National Player pool. Players are listed below, grouped by position and sorted by projection 'Depth Chart' position where the top player listed is most likely to be named the first player selected for that position, and so on. Depth chart positions are determined by performance in pre-cup training sessions, as well as performance and average ratings in the Vilitan League competition and previous appearances for the National Team.

GOALKEEPERS:

[ 93 ] G.Q Disterfred II [ - Colonial Sile - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 26 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Young prospect Disterfred pushed Inura Forests into the top half of the Season 38 Declasse, earning player of the season honors at the club and earning recognition as a serious propsect for the National Team. Disterfred was a member of the AOCAF 41 Championship Winning side, but did not start any of the 7 matches en-route to the title. When head coach Nycflala Kater took a back seat early in the competition during AOCAF 42, however, Disterfred had his chance to play as Vilita & Turori earned their second consecutive AOCAF title. However, Disterfred's domestic career took a negative turn when Inura Forests were relegated out of the Vilitan League, prompting a cross-country transfer to the Kionao Locals in the Declasse division. Despite the strong leadership of Lita Adjei and good performances in the UICA Competitions, Kionao was unable to get promoted and eventually Disterfred would move to Turoki Isle in order to get a chance to play in the Stellar Division. Having played his whole career in Vilita, Disterfred was eventually convinced to return home to Turori when the chance to play at Cednia Beach AFC was presented, Disterfred being named the replacement for retiring Vilitan netminder Jaqe Planst.

Snapped up at a young age by the Turoki Tide who identified a young Deniibo as an ideal prospect to play along side and be tutored by the Tide's Turorian National team goalkeeper Hooizo Nuakoi. After spending 5 seasons as apprentice to Nuakoi in Turoki, Deniibo switched to Lonngeylin City in an attempt to get regular first team action.

------- D RLC ( AGE: 22 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
After spending 3 seasons being trained in Crosaibi at Marine Coast United, Edgeli made the switch down the coast to the Lonngeylin Coliseum for Season 43. [ 69 ] Yitizo Mpala'a [ - Lonngeylin Coast - ]
------- D C ( AGE: 18 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]

Laina-Sola started their career as a training in Inura before being spotted by the big clubs and playing a few seasons with Jlinal Cove and Makosile in Vilita. Then, however, the young Turorian defender finally made the big move home to Mliona-Lpaka in time for V-League Season 44.

[ 68 ] Mikki Mayelli [ - Eastal Lunar - ]
------- D C ( AGE: 19 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]

[ ] Klaillal Tuirma [ - Rammsissil - ]
------- ATH ( AGE: 31 CAPS: :: GOALS::SR: U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Descendant of Season 4 Turorian Player of the Season and National team legend Cuolia Tuirma, Klaillal will work with Restiaa Mumamba to become the future "All-Around" player for the Turori National Team. Playing in a unique role, Tuirma will be expected to fill the role of being able to play every game, in every position - even Goalkeeper, if there are no subs left. Tuirma will certainly be starting as a substitute during their debut campaign in World Cup 62 but may get the chance to start against weaker opposition. After being brought up through the academy system at Kionao, Tuirma signed a professional contract with Colonial Sile in Vilita for Season 35, winning silverware in the first match, the Tropical Trophy triumph over Strike. Tuirma's stay in Sile didn't last long, however, coaxed back to the luxury of Arcticala Inlet to help in their Champions-Cup qualifying campaign of Season 38. Tuirma returned to Turori during Season 44 as a member of Mliona-Lpaka AFC

[ ] Aiden Varess [ - Eastal Lunar - ]

------- AM C ( AGE: 28 CAPS: :: GOALS::SR: U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Kulkkiia was developed at the Cednia Beach Academy having been highly scouted and recruited by teams throughout Turori and even Vilita. After the Turori Eels failure to qualify for World Cup 64, Kulkkiia became the subject of media attention questioning whether the aging crop of players should make way for younger players like Kulkkiia in the Esportiva-hosted Cup of Harmony for World Cup 64. Kulkkiia added his name to the long line of major transfers involving Cednia Beach after being transferred to SC Montfort in the Licentian Isles prior to Season 42

[ ] Indelli Nura'amura [ - Tropicorp FC - ]
------- ATH ( AGE: 18 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]

The twin brother of Strike FC attacking sesation Enluta Makakio, Inlite started his career as 2 time player of the year at Inura Forests before making the jump to Vilita, eventually landing a transfer to Arcticala Inlet for V-League season 44.

[ ] Kigaoua Oalalka [ - Mliona-Lpaka AFC - ]
------- M RC ( AGE: 25 CAPS: :: GOALS::SR: U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Oalalka never could get settled down in Vilita, taking trial runs at clubs such as the Turoki Tide, Inland Peaks and Mavaloiao before switching gears and looking at international transfer options. Eventually however, after 4 international seasons, Oalalka landed in Lonngeylin at Strike FC. Serving a bit-part role, the young Turorian would make the switch across town to Lonngeylin City to get regular playing time.

------- F C ( AGE: 26 CAPS: :: GOALS::SR: U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]

The Football Association of Vilita is based at the Tivali-Ring Stadium (87,000 Seating Capacity) in the capital city of Alikki-Corra, Vilita and many National Team training sessions take place on the grounds of the Tivali-Ring. The Tivali-Ring complex was constructed as part of the Vilitan bid to host the World Cup 14 Cup of Harmony as a replacement to the former National Stadium in Lopinka that was destroyed during a regional conflict. 'The Ring' has since hosted countless international matches including high profile matches such as the World Cup 31 Final and the 40th Series 'B' Champions Cup Final.

Despite being based at the Ring, The Football Association of Vilita regularly schedule matches at arenas throughout Vilita, especially bigger matches as many of the stadiums that host Stellar Division and UICA competition matches have expanded far beyond the 87,000 capacity of the National Stadium at Tivali-Ring, which is used only for the National Team, and, domestically for the Vilitan Cup Final and Tropical Trophy matchups. The Football Association typically releases a stadium schedule when applicable.

Zelkki Milake [ - Eastal Lunar - ]
GK ( AGE: 24 CAPS: 8 :: GOALS:0 ) :: [ N/R ]
An aspiring Astronaut, Zelkki Milake's sporting career took added importance when he signed for Eastal Lunar FC at the age of 16 and immediately became the clubs starting goalkeeper for the Season 41 Declasse Division campaign. Milake kept a series of clean sheets that kept Eastal Lunar in the top half of the table for the majority of the season and still mathematically in the hunt for promotion entering the final matchday. The 1-0 victory over Akisa Surta combined with a Turoki Isle draw propelled Eastal Lunar into the top two and ensured that the young Milake would be thrust into action against some of the top players in the world as a Stellar Division goalkeeper for V-League Season 42. It wasn't at Eastal Lunar that Milake would make a name for himself, however. The young Vilitan goalkeeper opened his International Career with four-consecutive clean sheet performances and earned a place as a reserve player on the World Cup 67 World XI team. The performances for the National Team would earn Milake a transfer to Lonngeylin Coast after Eastal Lunar's Season 42 relegation. World Cup 68 Would be a coming out part for Milake who was in goal for the Jungle Cats as they lifted the World Cup Trophy for the first time in 48 editions with a 4-2 win over the Free Republics, making Milake one of the youngest starting netminders to win the World Cup. Milake's domestic career wouldn't go as smoothly, however, and after spending 2 seasons in the Declasse after Lonngeylin Coast's relegation, the World Cup winner returned to his roots, re-signing for high-flying Eastal Lunar in Season 46.

Staffing

Manager: Curtis Steeling; 43
Curtis Steeling will be taking charge of the Red Kites for his fourth World Cup, in which he will reach his 100 games milestone as manager of Ethane. He has been an impressive figure for Ethanian football across the four World Cups that the nation has entered, leading the team from finishing 5th in World Cup 74, where the Red Kites finished in fifth (although did put up a good fight) to finishing second in the group in the 75th World Cup after impressively beating The Holy Empire; knocked out across the two playoff rounds against Banguela on aggregate away goals. However, the team have only gone downhill from this momentous occasion and struggled in World Cup 76, where they were expected to reach the playoffs once again at least. Steeling, after the first World Cup, adopted the 'Explosive football' philosophy (which will be explained later in the roster) which is why the team did considerably well in the 75th edition. Despite struggling with it in the 76th edition, Steeling has said he will continue to use the philosophy. Curtis Steeling has managed Ethane for 95 games, winning 34, drawing 20 and losing 41. Steeling, as manager, has achieved a just over 0.9 goals-per-game ratio scored and a just under 1.2 goals-per-game ratio conceded. Steeling will have to up his game compared to the previous qualifiers and thrive in the different qualifying format, otherwise he will find himself out of a job very quickly.

Assistant Manager: Gareth Barley; 44
Barley has massively improved his managing techniques and people skills. The board recognised his performance in the 74th qualifiers, and have allowed him to stay on awhile longer to work with Steeling. However, it is thought that his future is tied up with Steeling in his role, and if Steeling were to leave, it is likely Barley would also leave or be forced out.

Offensive Coach: Steven Carlsting
He has brought through the new era of 'Explosive football' in the Ethane game, with great success, and is seen as the figure guiding the style forward, evolving it to adapt to new situations. If the team were to struggle in front of the goal and in defence, then he will be under pressure to leave.

Defensive Coach: Adam Hurnley
Following the last World Cup, Hurnley will be under pressure to make the defence work in the world cup, as the team has been going through a period of sloppy defending recently. It's his job to correct it, and if not, he will lose his job.

Goalkeeper Coach: Harry Bentley
Bentley has been fairly successful in his role as goalkeeper coach, with strong performances from the goalkeepers in both previous world cups instilling some hope in the team. He probably has the firmest job of all in the staffing lineup, but still knows the board wants the best he has to give to this team.

Physio: Keith Lambeth
Medic: Kerry Hanners

The Players

Following the poor qualification campaign last World Cup cycle, which saw Ethane fail to reach the playoffs, the team are in a troubled place. However, recent games have instilled some hope that the Red Kites could put in a decent performance, and the team will be resting these hopes on the strong striker lineup the team has this cycle. The team know that qualifying automatically is almost completely out of the window, but the space through the playoffs is still open for grabs. The team are fully determined to reach that spot and finish off what they were supposed to do, but were so far off doing last cycle.

Defence

GoalKeeper: Brody Church- 30- South Saints FC
Caps: 43
Sub-Caps: 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Clean Sheets: 14
Brody Church has come back from his injury which ruled him out of the 75th World Cup even better than he was before. After his decent performances when playing rather than Henderson, he has shown himself to have maintained his international standard of goalkeeping. These performances have also been reflected in his league performance last season, where he remains the first team goalkeeper for South Saints. His team managed to only concede 29 goals during the season - of which he had a major part to play in with some wonderous saves throughout - which has reinforced his position of international calibre. Church has shown himself to be extremely concentrated and in the game - not easily distracted - so he has the perfect mindset to be able to perform well on the international stage at a longer-than-typical qualifying stage for the World Cup. Brody Church has also shown himself to be quick in reactions, and has a strong dive to his name, making him the perfect player to protect the net for Ethane.

Goalkeeper: Joe Henderson; 35; Hullbury Town
Caps: 41
Sub-Caps: 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Clean Sheets: 18
With good vision, Henderson rarely lapses in concentration, and is extremely focused, always paying attention to where the ball is, and what he should be doing. He does take the role of sweeper-keeper sometimes, not to the extent of some other keepers, but he will do it when there is a goal at risk, and no defenders around to help him. As a tall goalkeeper, he does have good reach over the whole of his goal. However, he is not so good at one-on-one situations, and his performance on set-pieces can sometimes let him down. However, his ability to stay calm under pressure, and perform well when any penalty is given, guessing correctly most of the time, makes him in the manager's eyes, the ideal candidate for goalkeeper. He will be looking to try to reclaim the top spot through the few games he may potentially play during the World Cup after losing it to Brody Church.

GoalKeeper: Louis Cook; 26; Blashpool City
Caps: 0
Sub-Caps: 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Clean Sheets: 0
After his strong performance as Blashpool City's goalkeeper for the previous season - only conceding 36 goals across the league season - Louis Cook has taken the place of reserve goalkeeper for the Ethanese national team. Slightly more sluggish in his sudden reflexes, his skill comes in on being able to read the game well and position him in preparation. He is quite a tall keeper - standing at 6' 7'' - and is a gift for his team. While it is unlikely he will get much game time these qualifiers, he will be looking in the long-term to try to steal the second spot off Joe Henderson and establish himself on the team. However, Nelson Delamora of Briston Rovers still remains a threat to his place, so he will have to be looking forward while watching his back.

Left-Back: Bruce Washington; 33; South Saints
Caps:26
Sub-Caps: 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 1
His pace on the wing makes him a key counterpart in the defence (despite it declining somewhat), closing down oncoming wingers, and preventing them from crossing the ball into the box. Not quite so good with the tackling game, sometimes a bit clumsy, and not with the best style of tackle to take the ball in style, he prefers to intercept and block, which is an ideal thing for the left-back to have. He is coming towards the end of his career, and his pace is beginning to decline as he fades away. It looks like this could be one of his last, if not his last, World Cup qualifiers.

Left-Back: Thresa Desantis; 26; Cardnid Town
Caps: 0
Sub-Caps: 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Thresa has been an integral part of the Cardnid Town defence, with her strength creating a domineering persona in the footballing world. Despite not being the quickest of defenders, she has very good tracking abilities, and knows when to make the right interception. She is also very good at blocking. Somewhat of a surprise entry into the national squad, it seems to mark a change in Steelings approach slightly to include a greater attempt of the Ethanian players to assert their authority on the pitch rather than play possessively, signalling a possibility of a move away from Explosive football this cycle if it fails to work for Steeling again. Thresa will be looking to stamp her authority on this position and make it her own, establishing herself as a strong player in the team, and making women proud as the first woman football player on the Ethanese national team.

Left-Back: Cliff Driscoll; 34; Bourne River
Caps:16
Sub-Caps: 2
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Driscoll is a very mature and intelligent player, bringing a wealth of experience to his games, and proves a useful mentor for those younger players who are not so mature and experienced. With good knowledge of the game, and experience, he knows many of the tricks in the books, and is difficult to fool on the pitch with gameplay, and is difficult to wind up and get to lash out against you. He has alright vision, and while there are players which can place themselves better for the opposition attacks, he is fine at this job, and can quickly reposition himself if he needs to, especially with his knowledge. His pace does sometimes let him down, but he has enough pace to provide a threat somewhat in attack down the wing, either supporting the left midfielder and distributing the ball to them, or whipping in crosses to the centre himself. He is not an authoritative player, and does like others to take charge, and direct the style and direction of play, not having much input in the tactics very often - not a good candidate for captain, but he is a mentor, like was said earlier, when asked, and can be someone which younger players look up to, with his calm demeanor and wealth of knowledge. He does get on well with most of the team, and tries to stay out of conflicts, and does not try to dispute the referee's calls, but when a terrible call does come up, he can sometimes get a bit infuriated. He is not the most bulky of players, and is not very intimidating, but he has an alright slide tackle, and while not the best, does get the job done. This is likely to be his last World Cup, as he has said that he is 'considering retirement from all forms of football in the near future'.

Centre-Back: Darien Fear; 25; South Saints
Caps:63
Sub-Caps:4
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
He is seen as sturdy character. He also remains a constant feature due to his pace, but also due to his demeanour, which the selectors think will bring massive reward to the developing national team. He has also been included due to his consistency and ability to surprise, even when no one thinks there are any surprises left, which has been reinforced by recent games leading up to this World Cup. Darien Fear is not afraid to put his body on the line for games and results. Sometimes, this attitude can lead to fouls though, and he has seen a few red cards in his days. He is an extremely passionate player, and puts all his emotions and energy into the game, and a result. However, while he has the best intent, and is one of the better players, he can sometimes get a little overexcitable, and make a few silly mistakes, which sometimes lead to goals which could have been prevented if he was a slightly mature player. However, with the few downsides that do sometimes create mistakes, he remains a very highly skilled player, and is a defensive masterclass, as well as an attacking aid sometimes. which leaves the back open more.

Centre-Back: Daniel Moore; 28; South Saints
Caps:16
Sub-Caps: 9
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Seen as the more mature, older counterpart to Darien Fear at South Saints, he also proves to be the player slightly less willing to put his whole body into the tackle, and the one to prefer to stand back more, survey a scene, and position himself accordingly, intercepting and blocking, with some tackles, rather than jump into tackles, which is where Darien Fear is more experienced, making them a great partnership in defence for South Saints. Certainly more mature and more experienced that Darien Fear, he is a more of a commanding figure, who is more controlled, and looks at the overall tactics rather than individual incidents. He is more of a technical defender, and is better on the removing the ball from the back than other defenders, which suits his position as a peripheral defender. He is a very defensive defender, and does not tend to help out with attacks, rather staying back when it comes to corners, unless in the last minute or so, when the team is on full attack, and even then he stands a little way back. He has strong vision and positioning, and sees a sneaky pass coming more often than Fear, putting them as possibly the most successful partner in the league, as they compliment each other. He doesn't often close down players, and is more of an interceptor and blocker.

Centre-Back: John Campbell; 35; Cassandra City (Cosumar)
Caps:41
Sub-Caps: 1
Goals: 1
Assists: 1
He is experienced and mature, and takes a great mentor role in the squad, being one of the key leading players for younger players, such as Darien Fear, to idolise. He is losing his pace as he gets older, but he still is very switched on, and is quick off the mark, as well as holding a brutal tackle to his plethora of skills. He can be intimidating in the squad, but has a good relation with everyone on the team, which is conducive towards a working environment. However, he does not have the greatest stamina, and is sometimes only used as a defender brought on to hold on to a result towards the end of the game, or substituted off towards the end of a game. He is good with headers. Some of his tackles can be dirty, which can lead to him being sent off on occasion. He is the captain of the national team. This will be his last World Cup qualifiers, and he aims to end with style by reaching at least the playoffs.

Centre-Back: Jonathan Harris; 24; Blashpool City
Caps:0
Sub-Caps:0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Jonathan Harris has been chosen over Alan Barnes because of Barnes' poor performance last WC, and Jonathan's strong performance as part of Blashpool City. He is an extremely dedicated character who rarely gets injured and has a long stamina - as reflected in the fact he started every single one of the 38 games in the last season of the Explosive League. He is taking the step up to the international level to prove himself as a strong defender, and the question won't be about his ability but rather whether he can cope with the pressure.

Centre-Back: Kyle Cooper; 29; Bourne River
Caps:12
Sub-Caps:1
Goals: 0
Assists: 1
Good with the head, he tends to be referred to as an all-rounder who is good in many aspects. He doesn't get involved in attacks too much, and prefers to stay in defence on corners and the like. He is fairly pacey, but can sometimes lack on the slide tackles, but has still got some decent tackles compared to many people in the league. He is very cool-headed, and likes to work in unison with the team, in one large unit. Can sometimes try to dominate in decisions however, and no matter how cool-headed and nice he seems, he can occasionally be fairly annoying, which sometimes leads to opposition players, and teammates, to retaliate.

Right-Back: Archie Holmes; 33; Bourne River
Caps:25
Sub-Caps:6
Goals: 0
Assists: 2
Holmes has proven to be an experienced, yet low-maintenance in training, he has over his footballing career, developed from a shy, lower league player who was average, to a top quality, top league defender. He has a very shy attitude to himself, which is why he tends to struggle somewhat with media interviews, although he does cope. However, he is certainly no longer shy on the pitch, and no longer shies away from big slide tackles. He is rather lean, and tall, but he is still good with slide tackles, although sometimes fouling in them. While he may not be the best with vision - he is not always the best when positioning himself in comparison to over national team players - his willingness to get stuck into the game, his work ethic, motivation, pace, and technical skills have made him an ideal candidate on this team when the need for him arises.

Right-Back: Joshua Cook; 22; South Saints
Caps:18
Sub-Caps:1
Goals: 0
Assists: 1
He has a sense of immaturity to the gameplay, and it has to be said that his skills and gameplay have certainly not been completely refined yet - he is still fairly raw and can be sloppy at times. However, with guiding mentors in the team that would be willing to help him become a better player, and this world cup giving him some experience, this should be, as well as a great world cup for him to come out and perform in for the team, a great learning experience for him, no matter how much he actually gets to play. He is a solid, consistent defender, and having made a mistake, tends for the most part to not repeat that mistake again. However, his inexperience does show, as he can sometimes be duped in some tricks, sometimes ones that he has not experienced used against him before in the Explosive league in Ethane. Not so good on the attacking front, he does tend to be used more when the team is on full defensive mode, but with training, he might be able to develop this attacking style of right-back skill as well. Not so good on the headers, he tends to press up against the corner kick taker, or not take a place in front of goal for them. He has got a good sized kick to him, and can sometimes be seen switching the sides of the pitch that the ball is on, to confuse the opposition, and open up gaps in the opposition defence, also helping on clearing the ball, and distributing.

Right-Back: Caleb Powell; 30; Carredington
Caps:0
Sub-Caps:0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Another new player into the squad to replace George Smith, who has retired from international football, he is strong right-back and certainly has got a deep knowledge of the game and techniques, as shown in his play. He is a very technical player, and good at positioning himself, so he is a good interceptor and a good blocker. Not so good on the tackles. Good also on aiding attacks, he is seen as more of an attacking player for a time in which the team is attempting to quickly recover. Highly respected in the team, and in the nation, and doesn't retaliate easily to provocation.

Midfield

Central-Defensive Midfielder: Alex Brown; 24; Bourne River
Caps:5
Sub-Caps:6
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
A very defensively minded player as a defensive midfielder, the position he has taken is seen more as a connecting role to the attackers from the defence, but still retaining a very defensive style of play, in order to make up for the one defensive player they have lost due to the new formation under the ''Explosive'' style of football now adopted by the team. Brown is seen as a controller of the game, sitting in the back of the midfield. He has good vision and maturity, and can get a good overview of the game, making him ideal with his decent long and short passing to play the role of a distributor. He does occasionally help attack, but this is rare, because he likes to play a lot closer to his own goal than some other players in this position may like to play. He has some good technical skills to get round players, although he is not amazingly brilliant in this department. Not quite so good on set pieces however, and tends to position himself wrong on these, or make a bad mistake. He can sometimes be brilliant, but when he is in an off-day every once in awhile, the whole team suffers, because of his important role in the team. He has an alright stamina, but sometimes cannot make it to the end of the game when he is starting, so is substituted off in the second half at some point. He has a calm demeanour, but when pestered lots, he can sometimes retaliate, due to his inexperience in dealing with the brutish nature of international football. However, it is unlikely his retaliatory behaviour would make headlines (apart from possibly in Ethane) or get him sent off the pitch. It would probably more likely get a yellow card.

Central-Defensive Midfielder: Gerald Coleman; 26; Hullbury Town
Caps:8
Sub-Caps:5
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
He gets the job done well, and therefore deserves a spot on this team. He also can help out in attack sometimes, and takes a much more aggressive role in this position, often pushing forward more than other players would in this position, and therefore better for when the team is trying to level with little time to spare, when the team is on full attack.

Central-Defensive Midfielder: Merlin Midgley; 31; South Saints
Caps:47
Sub-Caps:1
Goals: 0
Assists: 1
Described by some as a 'warrior', many have said he is fully deserving of this position, but other people argue that it was just him being the coach's cousin that helped him get into the squad. Nevertheless, he does have some valuable skills that this team could use. He is a very balanced player, and does not prioritise offence or defence while in this position, preferring to play in between. He is less skilled in passing, and is more of a dribbler, meaning he can take move into the large gap in his team in the middle of the pitch, and work in that space. He can see good runs, and makes the move to aid them as well, making him an extremely beneficial, though controversial, and arguably not quite so good as other player could have been, member of this team.

Left Midfielder: Grady Stevens; 28; Loconstead United
Caps:12
Sub-Caps:7
Goals: 0
Assists: 3
He is seen as a fundamental threat to any team with his crosses, and certainly one that they would need to stifle. Stevens is a very fast player, one of the fastest in the league for matter of fact, which helps him with his deadly runs on the wing. Where he falls down is defence, which is something that he is certainly not quite so good at, struggling with interceptions and tackles. However, with good vision, and decent long passes, as well as short, he gets an overview of the game, and can sometimes control play from the left wing, distributing the ball across the whole range of the pitch. While he certainly won't help out much in defence, the hope with him, and his pace and possessive style of play that he likes to take, and his ability to knock in decent crosses, he proves an excellent candidate for the role of LM in the team, and is expected to live up to his name on this team as the player who has the most assists to their name in the past season.

Left Midfielder: Kevyn Stidolph; 29; Mansestra
Caps:67
Sub-Caps:9
Goals: 2
Assists: 25
Not the fastest of wingers, he can sometimes be caught out by faster players, but his technical skills when with the ball can help him with his attacks, and he can outdo players and trick them. He also has some defensive skills as well, providing a backup of sorts for the defenders if they do get overwhelmed in the new, less defensive system that the team now follows. He also has the skill of having great awareness and vision, which allows him to spot the perfect run and either deliver the ball to his running teammates feet to take it further, or to whip the ball into the box, and give either the perfect kick or header to his teammate, in order to increase the likelihood of a win.

Left Midfielder: Christian Ali; 23; Carredington
Caps:0
Sub-Caps:0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Ali is new to the international stage, and is one of the younger members of the team so is a little more inexperienced when it comes to the style of international football. Despite all this, Ali is well prepared after his strong season for Carredington, having assisted 11 goals. He has pace, so rockets down the wing, helped by his youthfulness. Combined with his great placement, which makes him great at crosses and long passes to set someone up for a goal, he is a strong member of this team, and will likely play at least 1 game during the qualifiers.

Right Midfielder: Andrew Biley; 26; Letson Town
Caps:0
Sub-Caps:0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
A right winger with no experience on the international scene and little experience on the national scene having being overshadowed by Williamson, he will be starting as a fresh pair of eyes for the team. This doesn't say anything about his ability though, as he is a marvellous winger who gets the job done. He has a little more pace than Williamson who was rather old, and is much more inconsistent than Williamson with a lower stamina, but when he performs, he performs very well. He has a strong cross into the box and can often penetrate the defence with his sweeping passes, but isn't quite so good on the defensive side of the game. It remains to be seen whether Biley, who has never played for the national team before, will be able to perform in this team with the limited players in midfield - something he is not used to either as a member of Letson Town, and is something he has not adapted to yet.

Right Midfielder: Branden Veresoto; 24; Old Sarum
Caps:14
Sub-Caps:23
Goals: 0
Assists: 6
Veresoto provides a very dangerous attacking threat to anyone who tries to face him down. Not quite so adept in crossing the ball, or assisting in goals, he is definitely not one to look out for if you want a team goal, as he is not great with working with other people on the pitch. Seen as very hostile to teammates and opposition alike, quite often getting into fights on the pitch, which can often result in cards, he is easily infuriated, and refuses to work within the rules, which is something that has made his inclusion in this team extremely controversial, especially after his track record.

Right Midfielder: Carl Sanders; 33; Mansestra
Caps:0
Sub-Caps:0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Sanders is a very individualistic winger, and likes to do what he wants on the pitch; in that way he is quite rebellious. However, he is good at what he does, and it fits into the strategy of the team quite well, so he does ocassionally play. He is far more agressive than his counterparts, using his strength to barge down the wing and get in one of his powerful crosses.

Offence

Striker: Dewayne Boivin; 34; Free Agent
Caps:74
Sub-Caps:9
Goals: 35
Assists: 1
Having performed astounding well in the final season of the amateur Ethanian football league, saving his team from relegation to finish 15th out of 20th, 15 points above the relegation zone, when they were predicted to finish dead last in the league, he was quickly picked up on by the national team manager, Curtis Steeling, who rapidly gave him a starting role on the national Ethanian team for the Baptism of Fire - a controversial move which proved to work out well for the team. Having had plenty of experience in the lower leagues of the football pyramid in Ethane, he has a solid experience base of which to base his attacks upon, and fulfil the role of lead Ethanian striker that he seems to have acclaimed through his performances in the Baptism of Fire and the World Cup. He has the ability to deliver the goods when needed, and perform well when the pressure was at its highest level - a difficult feat for any player of any calibre. He transferred away to Doherty at the end of the first 'official' season of Ethanian football at professional level, and became a decent member of their squad, scoring goals when needed. He now finds himself as a free agent and will likely be making his transfer to his final team in the next transfer window. With a strong final touch, he is good at connecting with crosses and finishing shots, with a good accuracy percentage and goal to shot ratio. One of his main downfalls, however, is his speed, which, with his age, means that he cannot rush around the defenders to get a clear shot on goal, and more and more now, relies on other players to deliver the ball to him and bring it up the pitch, where he tends to sit, ready for any counter attack that may materialise, rather than helping out with the defence, where he would not prove much use to the team. It remains to be seen how much he will actually get to play in this cycle, or in the future, as the manager moves towards the younger strikers as Boivin grows older.

Striker: Thomas Peone; 32; Merseyshore City
Caps:15
Sub-Caps:17
Goals: 9
Assists: 1
Thomas Peone is a talented, and experienced player, who is at the optimum of his career. Peone has proven to be a capable and deadly force in front of goal, and able to find the net many a time from his shots. He is very much like Boivin in his play style, as he is a much slower player. He does not have extreme place like some strikers do, and is more suited to a possessive style of play, and occasional counters - much like the new 'explosive style' as the media have coined it, that the team follows. While Peone may not be so good with headers, as he struggles to get enough power, or direction on the ball to pose an aerial threat, the threat he supplies with long shots, and volleys off crosses, makes him plenty a deadly enough threat to be included on the national team for this world cup.

Striker: Jose Morgan; 31; Mansestra
Caps:11
Sub-Caps:1
Goals: 1
Assists: 0
Not quite as prolific as his fellow striker, he has still made a somewhat strong impression on the team, with not only his ability to score, but his unselfishness. Jose Morgan could be described as more of a pace striker than an expert finisher, zipping in between defenders, and using technical skills to get a shot on goal, rather than finishing with prowess. He is one to get the job done. His heading is also a lot stronger than that of most of the other strikers in the team, providing a dangerous aerial threat on corners, crosses and the like. He is a very cooperative player, and places the glory of the team above his own glory, not hogging the ball. He is not great on long shots however, and does have some flaws when forced to play out slightly wider, sometimes driving too far to the wing, which can damage the efforts of the team. However, all in all he is a strong striker, and well deserving of his place on the national team.

Striker: Julian Harrington; 32; Birdingstone United
Caps:26
Sub-Caps:6
Goals: 7
Assists: 0
He is certainly a threat in front of goal, and his determination makes sure he never stops fighting for a goal, no matter how desperate or easy the situation is in a specific game. He is quite a confrontational player, and can sometimes get up in players faces, in order to put them off and intimidate them. However, when a foul is miscalled, he can be respectful, and correct the ref some of the time. He is of an average speed in terms of pace, and is not that technical in his play, so somewhat relies on the ball being delivered to him, but he is a large threat when he has the ball in front of goal.

Striker: Julian West; 27; Cardnid Town
Caps:8
Sub-Caps:6
Goals: 1
Assists: 0
Talented in finishing prowess, he is an expert at the chip shot, and is often first in the line when playing to take penalties. Mostly cool-headed, he does not tend to lash out when provoked. Also with some beneficial talents that help in defence, he is an all-rounder striker that helps with determination and passion wherever on the pitch he is needed. He is fairly pacey, and can zip around the pitch relatively quickly, which makes up for his lack of technical talent.

Striker: Hayden Watts; 31; Loconstead United
Caps:0
Sub-Caps:0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0
Watts surprised everyone with his extremely strong season, finishing as the second highest scorer of the whole season for a team that scored the most goals in the season (at 99), behind only Kéirâ Andìsorì of Chromatika. Hayden may be starting to get old, but he has only just fully developed that top playing skill needed for the international team. He is highly technical in his play, and what he lacks in pace, he makes up for in dribbling and skill ability. He has a powerful shot, and one that is good at both short and long shots, but he is lacking in chip shots. He is average on headers, but can knock the odd one in.

Striker: Samuel Mitchell; 21; Mansestra
Caps:29
Sub-Caps:6
Goals: 12
Assists: 0
Mitchell is a natural star, and is great with the press. With his youth comes great pace, which brings him the ability to zip round opposition players, to get the best shot on goal. While his finesse and technical ability when with and without the ball is certainly not fully developed yet, he has the passion, determination and ability to get the job done, which speaks testaments to the great player that Mitchell is. However, this also speaks about the greatness yet to come from this player when he is trained up and reaches his optimum playing capability. However, he is a very strong player in the squad, and has fully developed into a strong contender for the starting position as the joint youngest member of the squad. He is not to be overlooked, and is one of the strongest strikers Ethane has had in the present and the future, and is the obvious replacement for Boivin, also partnering with Jaurequi well.

Striker: Wilmer Jaurequi; 21; Free Agent
Caps:25
Sub-Caps:24
Goals: 5
Assists: 0
Jaurequi is a young, intelligent player who is very technical in his play for a young player like himself. He is a great partner to Mitchell, and is set to form a future partnership that could propel the Red Kites to greatness. He is a real contender for first team spots, but also a great substitute for the team as a power sub. He slightly lacks in his shooting ability, but he acts as more of a supporting striker than the main striker.

Tactics

Ethanese football has changed direction recently. No longer will the team be following the ultra-defensive style of football used by Curtis Steeling in the last cycle, but will instead be adopting a new style, still slightly tinted by a defensive formation, coined by the media as 'explosive football'. 'Explosive Football' is the culmination of an increased supply pool of strikers, and a rather poor roster of teams with defensive capabilities sufficient enough to be included in this team.

It is a policy which now includes 4 players at the back, rather than 5. A more possessive style of football is played, with a focus still on defence, but the team has more of a policy of keeping the ball than before, passing it around the back. The team will have sudden (explosive) bursts of attacks, where they will advance quickly on the opposition in phases, and get a load of shots at once, overloading the defence of the opposition team, before referring back to their original, more defensive format. Counter-attacks are also used occasionally as a viable form of attack when out of possession and when being rapidly attacked when the chance arises, but the team is a much more possessive, pass around the team, slowly work their way to a goal style of play.

However, some of the new inclusions in the squad suggest that Steeling may be looking to change to a different style if this doesn't work out well to a more assertive and less possessive style of football, focused more on agressiveness and pushing forward rather than possession and sudden rushes with the ball in hand.

Stadium

King Edward IV Stadium

The stadium is situated in New Sarum, the capital of Ethane. It can hold 60,000 people in the setup as shown above, and will be used for all home games. The stadium can be accessed for fans from shuttle buses from the airport, and locations around the city. Plenty of accommodation has been set aside for travelling fans, and will be able to be enquired about on line in the lead up to games, and at the airport upon arrival.

Notes

After their kickball team lost every single match at the Independent Associations Championship, the Nordernian government searched for a foreign manager with a proven record. For the longest time, they had no luck but at the eleventh hour, right as they were about to announce their roster for the Baptism of Fire, Rule Theriault contacted them and accepted their offer. While Theriault attained success as the manager of the Free Republics, building that team into a contender that came very close to winning World Cup 68, Theriault's record in recent cycles has been less than promising and the coach found himself without a job after the Ilysee team disappointed in the 76th World Cup cycle, causing their gods to withdraw their assent for Ilyseum to field a soccer team in interdimensional competition. Theriault also has an unsuccessful run as the Sanctii manager where he was a total disaster, leading Saintland to their worst World Cup qualifying performance in history. While he retained his job for a Cup of Harmony because he had the support of King Petrus XX, he was fired as soon as his own team's star player King Andreas seized the Sanctii throne with the assistance of the Kulseth regime in the Free Republics. Theriault had hoped to return as West Sanctii manager this cycle but with the entire island of Saintland suddenly being blocked by an invisible wall, their participation in the upcoming World Cup 77 was uncertain at that time. Theriault also applied for the Guayabalense managerial job, but did not get the job, so he chose Nordernious as a last resort to stay relevant on the international scene.

One of the conditions of his hiring was that Theriault would be required to utilize Nordernian assistants and that he would be expected to coach using a defensive-oriented philosophy. As he's always been a defensive-minded manager anyways and as his assistants spent most of BoF 63 and WCQ 76 feuding with one another, Theriault did not object to these conditions. In Nordernious, he could achieve a fresh start. The Nordernian philosophy of kickball (as they call the sport) is very defensive-oriented and the Nordernian domestic league still uses 2 points for a win (not 3) and goal average (rather than goal difference) as the top tiebreaker in order to reward defensive play. Nordernian teams consider allowing a goal to be extremely humiliating and thus place first priority on keeping the ball out of their own net. A Nordernian keeper who allows 2 goals in a match is likely to be pulled from the match and replaced by a substitute and players who make mistakes that lead to goals are often benched for the following game. The Nordernian emphasis on defense is so all-encompassing that their most physically gifted players are usually defenders. In BoF 64, Nordernious relied upon System Preservation, based upon systematically trying to run out the clock when they have a lead, to win their first 6 WCC matches and reach the final.

One concern for the Nordernian government, given Theriault's past, is that he will fail to adequately control the team and players will wonder off to commit various kinds of vices in other nations that they visit. While Nordernious is officially known as the Democratic States of Nordernious, their political system is actually run by an unelected technocratic elite which makes decisions about what is best based upon scientific evidence and strict utilitarian philosophy, with an aim toward maximizing the utility of the nation as a whole. The appearance of a democratic society is put forward to the citizens in order to reduce resistance but no actual opposition party is permitted to get anywhere near political power and social movements that promote divisiveness or disunity are ruthlessly suppressed. Generally though, this is not necessary as the education system is very effective at indoctrinating the young into the core values of the nation which includes plenty of education on the evils and "absurdity" of both liberty (called "license") and equality. Should Nordernian players engage in the kind of off-the-pitch misconduct that Republican players famously engaged in or should Theriault run down opposing teams and/or give them disrespectful nicknames, the Nordernian government would fire him in a heartbeat.

The Euran Football Association’s 77th World Cup Qualifying Squad

Manager: Steve Thompson (58, Eura)

All time Euran record appearance holder Steve Thompson, with 301 caps to his name and 75 goals, was made Euran manager amidst much fanfare ahead of the 20th Copa Rushmori and qualifying section for the 71st World Cup. By beating Tom Benedict, several other former Eura internationals and international candidates to the post, Steve had set himself up with the tough task of helping Eura recover from three consecutive poor performances at World Cup finals. Eura seemed to gain more defensive stability and ruthlessness under Louis Watson in his short spell as Thompson's predecessor, but while they dispatched of the minnows easily they underperformed badly against the higher seeds, and then fell apart in the group stage. Only a deserved draw with Valanora salvaged any pride as the respected but not highly rated Watson bowed out of international management. However Thompson turned things around with a surprisingly good performance at the 20th Copa Rushmori, though once again they came up just short of finally winning it - Eura continues to be perhaps the biggest underachiever in the tournament. His Eura side made it to the final before falling to an unlucky defeat in extra time against Sargossa by the score of 2-1, despite a headed goal from Craig Gilbert.

Many questioned whether or not this form would translate into the World Cup, and Thompson's side proved the doubters wrong. Their initial qualifying charge included a number of good wins including victories over Semarland and Mangolana, interrupted only by a frustrating draw in neighbouring Szavoda. However a loss away to the top seeds Royal Kingdom of Quebec, followed by draws against Semarland and Sandwich Territories, temporarily derailed Eura's qualification hopes. Thankfully Thompson turned it around, and powered on by veteran Skorji Oslograd's goals, they qualified. At the World Cup itself Eura finally broke their chain of group stage embarrassments, beating co-hosts Yttribia and the ever potent Farfadillis; their last game was an ignominious defeat to Star United States but they made it into the next round anyway. In the Round of 16 Eura encountered their qualifying rivals Royal Kingdom of Quebec and proved to be their bane once again, beating them 2-1, before beating Turori in an absolute thriller on penalties. However Eura's surprise advancement into the later stages was ended in the semi-finals by Rushmori rivals Pasarga, the goals of Brigham's Dominik Mauer sinking the Euran's despite Skorji Oslograd's 100th international goal. Eura's performance in the 21st Copa Rushmori was less admirable as they stumbled through the group stage before an undeserved quarter final exit to Taeshan.

The next cycle was met by more outstanding football and more heartbreak while Brigham were having that season at home. Eura blitzed their way to their third World Cup final, living up to the hype that followed the last cycle. They were particularly potent in having the most dangerous goalscoring record of any team, especially given Ashtree's age and Campbell's rawness being the only options up front, and went on a remarkable run of form that culminated in a famous 5-0 semi-final drubbing of Vilita. However Eura's newest nemesis Pasarga stood in the way again and defeated them at the final hurdle in a tight contest, and then knocked Eura out of the Copa Rushmori in the later stages on penalties after Eura had started impressively, and had won a 5-3 thriller against rivals Sameba. After these close misses, Eura were wondering what they have to do to win an international tournament again. Despite this it had been a good time for Eura, at 2nd in the world - their highest ranking - and it is hard to argue that, on paper at least, only Pasarga had claim to be better. However there remained some lurking doubts; Eura's previous two finals produced the same issues of key players about to pass their peak and major changes to the starting lineup, and were followed by a quarter final exit and then several years of mediocrity.

Finally, at the 73rd World Cup, all doubts were erased as Thompson cemented himself as a legend as both a player and coach for Eura by winning the World Cup, making Eura the first country from Rushmore to do it twice. An exceptional squad with an exceptional manager swept away a qualifying group of intermediate difficulty with a 100% record, a first for the Euran national team, before kicking off the World Cup with a memorable 7-3 thrashing of Free Republics. Confident victories against Ceni, Cosumar and Apox followed before a rather overconfident Farfadillis who had just shocked Osarius 5-1, were swept away 6-1 by Kris Campbell and company. After Eura's normal time win streak was ended by a draw against underdogs San Jose Guayabal, which ended with Eura winning a drawn out penalty shootout for the first time in a while, they were set up for a tantalising final clash with Pasarga. Eura, despite their fantastic record, were considered slight underdogs against Pasarga due to the perceived mental barrier Eura had developed against the side from northern Rushmore. Thompson and his team were finally rewarded though for their efforts with a tight but deserved victory over the Pasargan's, after a spectacular campaign including particularly exceptional performances from the likes of Craig Sinclair, Kris Campbell, Craig Gilbert and John Spartan. They followed this up by finally winning the Copa Rushmori, beating Taeshan in New Gelderland.

Unfortunately, Eura failed to defend either of these titles. They were as brilliant as usual on their way to the World Cup but their now ageing defence looked frail, and was exposed against Pasarga in that sensational 6-5 win, as well as in several high scoring victories and draws in qualifying. It all came apart against Nephara, who they had beaten 4-3 in the group stage, by the same margin but in reverse. Then at the Copa, Eura were advancing comfortably on home turf before an inexplicable defeat by the same margin to Polaskaan, which many blamed on an incorrect decision to send off Frank Ainsworth, and two of the visitors goals being from offside positions. It was an anti-climactic and extremely disappointing end to that tournament for Eura and has led to big changes in the Euran squad. It is a Euran team that, on the bright side, is now ranked number one in the international rankings for the first time ever. The challenge for Steve Thompson now is to replace the ageing generation that has taken Eura to heights it has never reached before, with only Kris Campbell, Joel Sutton and Frank Ainsworth remaining young from that group - Waller, Chuchilli and Rogers has retired, while Spartan, Watson, Gilbert, Blackthorn and even Sinclair cannot be around forever. Thankfully Eura have some excellent young stars.

Unfortunately, a poor performance struck at the 75th tournament, ending the good run - out at the group stage in embarrasing fashion. Or normally it would be. But the terrible crime committed against Eura by Sameba overwhelmed any thoughts of how we are doing in the football, and led to the Euran FA rearranging the scheduling so that Season 30 would start earlier, continuing the one season per World Cup schedule when they had hoped to abandon it. Oakstone have moved stadium due to pressures on their city. This has left the Euran team, who almost sleepwalked through the Copa straight after the World Cup, in a state of disarray for a short time. Now they have it back together again, and some players have taken this moment to retire from international football - namely Gareth Blackthorn, Ben Prince, Joe Caffin, Gavin Madison and Mark Rogers. Craig Gilbert was apparently persuaded to continue only due to an emotional intervention by Steve Thompson. The show must go on, and some new blood must show their worth, even in appalling circumstances. And it has done - although Eura have faltered earlier than hoped both at the last World Cup and the last two Copa Rushmori's

Assistant Manager: Matt Boyce (58, Eura)

Boyce was a surprise appointment as Thompson’s assistant, having been out of coaching roles for a couple of years. However he has plenty of experience at various clubs and the national team before that and his appointment has been responded to positively. He has played a pivotal role in maintaining Eura’s improvements at the back, while his bubbly personality and reputation as a leader make him a valuable asset in the dressing room. He has been a key ingredient in Thompson's success, and has proven a lot less of a competitor, and more like an assistant, than Dimitri Campbell was to Ben Randall.

Notes

Since the last World Cup, 28 years have passed in Saintland and the nation is now almost unrecognizable to those who remember the old Saintland. At the 3rd West Sanctii elections, Feministvs Sanctvsterra finally won enough combined seats to form a majority government. Meanwhile, King Petrus XX became increasingly frustrated by his inability to produce a male heir even as Queen Veronica grew more and more powerful. Gradually, West Saintland drifted more and more toward a matriarchal state and the Church of Saintland's theology shifted accordingly, especially after the appointment of Matriarch Innocentia I as the leader of the Church. During these years, the island of Saintland lost contact with the outside world where, unbeknownst to them, the 64th Baptism of Fire was happening at a rate of 1 matchday per every 4 years of Sanctii time. An invisible wall blocked both Saintlands from the world and, although neither recognized the legitimacy of the other, neither half believed itself capable of winning a war, even as they drifted further and further apart.

As West Sanctii society changed, all of the nation's athletic training resources were dedicated toward the development of female athletes. When Saintland was finally able to regain contact with the rest of the multiverse, they were surprised to discover that they were still entered in the 77th World Cup. Parliament elected to send an entirely female team comprised of the top stars of the West Sanctii domestic league. The new team was led by Princess Amanda, the 6th of the king's dozen daughters, and a star soccer player who reminded many older fans, on the pitch at least, of her uncle. The new West Sanctii team, to a woman, are known for their technical skill and their quickness. This is a very fast, very athletic team that likes playing a fast-paced, but not reckless, style of soccer. Notable players include the twin daughters of Josephus Flaccus, the daughter of former prime ministers Andreas Tuccius and Censorina Polus and the daughter of former star Andreas Fadius. On the bench is Procula Didius, the daughter of former gridiron star Georgius Didius.

The Great Pi - National Football Team

They have come into the real world, and they just can't get enough. For too long, they remained isolated, watching everyone from afar. For too long, they have remained out of sporting competitions, jealous, but reasoning that is was not safe to play. For too long, they have remained separate, no economic exchanges, no travelling, no communication. For too long, they have remained a hidden part of life - life no one knew existed, life that everyone would think is crazy imagination, and is unrealistic.

But now they've had a taste of internationalism. Gone is the old 'Great Pi', and the new 'Great Pi' has brought with it a series of changes to the nation, one of them being participation in world sports tournaments. Gone are the safety and authoritative demands of the dictator that followed before, and everyone is excited, willing to see what this new leader has to offer, after their old leader came to a tragic end. It is time to take a risk for The Great Pi, and sports is that risk. Wherever the 'Great Pi' goes, all its subjects follow.

In comes 'The Great Pi', and its subjects. They will not be stopped. They will not be scared of humans, and their hunger. They will not be squashed to a pulp, the fillings inside them oozing out and staining the pitch forever. They refuse to be intimidated by a creature that eats their own kind, and sees them as a food source for their own delight. They are real. They are alive. And they will come out fighting, all guns blazing.

Basic Information

Nation: The Great Pi
Team Nickname: The Baked Pies
Style Modifier: π (Pi: 3.142)
Trigramme: GPI
Formation: 3-4-3

Staffing:

Manager: Strawberry Sherry - 7 weeks
Strawberry Sherry has proven to be a fairly good tactical manager through the performances of The Great Pi in the Baptism of Fire and the previous World Cup, where the team did okay, but better than expected, being pies. One of Strawberry's biggest worries when coming into this set of tournaments was less so to do with the performance of the team, which she expected to not be the best, but was to do with making sure the pies didn't get eaten by the opposing side, which she seems to have been successful at, apart from the one that may have been eaten at the Cup of Harmony. However, none of this sets apart from the effort that Strawberry puts into the tactics of this team though, which is a strong team in itself. Focused on attacking gameplay, Strawberry is a relatively aggressive manager, playing the team in aggressive formations such as the one being employed at this world cup, with only 3 defenders, and with 3 strikers to get as many shots as possible. Strawberry will be hoping to not disappoint in this world cup, in order to sustain her position as manager of the national football team through building up confidence amongst the higher staff.

Assistant Manager: Apple N' Blackberry - 6 weeks
Apple N' Blackberry shares much of her philosophical beliefs in how football should best be played with Strawberry. Apple heavily believes in the formation that Strawberry loves to run, and in the aggressive style of play that the team use. Forming a crucial part of Strawberry's back-room team, Apple will be pushing the players for a good performance this cycle, to assert confidence in the style used by The Great Pi.

Offensive Coach: Pork N' Apple - 5 weeks
Defensive Coach: Ham N' Leek - 6 weeks
Goalkeeper Coach: Leek N' Onion - 5 weeks
Physio: Banana N' Custard - 6 weeks
Medic: Pomegranate N' Orange - 4 weeks

The Players

The players are here to fight, to avenge their loss in the Baptism of Fire and the last World Cup, and to assert their dominance against the humans. They will not bow down to those who try to eat them, they will not allow humans to crush them. Instead, they shall fight and fight until they can fight no more, and shoot and shoot until the goal count is through the roof. This is not a bunch of players who want to lose. They are determined, and are willing to fight for every scrap of a point up for grabs. And while it is expected they will lose, they are willing to try to offer up a surprise.

Defence

Goalkeeper: Beef N' Veggie - 4 weeks
Beef N' Veggie is a decent goalkeeper. One of the larger pies on the team, he is a perfect fit for goal, with his round body providing the most optimum coverage of goal. He is hindered when it comes to diving - the inherent problems of having a circular body with two legs - but his ability to role around the goal gives him a large coverage, making it difficult for the opposition players to score. Likely not to risk going out to collect the ball too much, as he has a deep childhood fear of being squashed or eaten by humans, which always provide a source of danger to pies.

Goalkeeper: Raspberry N' Lemon - 3 weeks
Towards the more youthful age of the players on this team, she is still in a situation where she is gaining experience - which is what this tournament is exactly for her, and other players on this team - to build up their experience so that the team can strive for greater progress in tournaments to come. Slightly smaller that the starter, Raspberry is much more agile, and has a much stronger on the diving front. Born out of childhood naivety, she is also more willing to come out and collect the ball, even at the risk of being squashed by the stampede of players.

Centre-Back: Fish N' Herb - 5 weeks
Fish is a golden oldie in this team, harking back to the eras where if someone played football, they would be hung for public display. His depth of experience and knowledge at amateur level is likely to help him, as he can use his skills to develop the rest of the team and build a real unity in amongst the team, alongside the manager. Seen as a potential replacement for the manager in the future, he needs to impress to stand in a good stead with the view of the authorities. He does seem to be coming towards the end of his shelf life as a defender, struggling against more superior teams.

Centre-Back: Peach N' Pineapple - 4 weeks
Another key player in defence, she is going to be a vital pie in the centre of the defensive field. She can stand steadfast and strong, and is not afraid to go in for the tackle, even if it does mean taking a few injuries (if this happens, more might have to be shipped in to take their places on the national football team).

Centre-Back: Chicken Tikka - 3 weeks
The youngest of the starting defensive trio, Chicken will be looking to the other two to help guide him through his development in this team. While his stylistic play does still need to be developed, Chicken is relatively fast, and is strong in blocking shots and passes. Probably more strong when not being onslaught by attacks, but can stand tall in front of oncoming strikers. Difficult to pass unless close by. Chicken will have a fight on his hands to stay as a starter. He does have a long future ahead of him in the National Team though, so losing out on a position now doesn't mean that he'd be out forever.

Centre-Back: Apple N' Cinnamon - 4 weeks
Would be a good starting centre-back if she had more conviction when it came to her tackles. Apple also is not fit at this point to play, and needs to build up her stamina in order to be able to make an impacted start to the game. She has provided impact through being subbed on, but her impact was not enough to justify her starting, neither is she at the fitness level yet.

Centre-Back: Pear N' Whisky - 4 weeks
Possibly the most unreliable and most unsportsmanlike player on this team, Pear has a bad temper to herself. She often struggles to contain her anger when given a card, and can often be banned from tournaments because of it. She has a sort of naivety in that she doesn't recognise the fact they could just eat her - as they have done to many pies in our history. Her performance can be unreliable, but when she plays well, she plays very well. There were fleeting moments in which Pear shined at the Baptism of Fire, but she could never break in to the team fully, with her anger issues keeping her back from her full potential.

Midfield:

Left-Midfielder: HoneyPie - 4 weeks
Well, the men love her, and she has good skills on the pitch. She has some pace to her, allowing her to make decent runs down the wing, but she is not easy to tackle, and can be very elusive with her playing style. Not to be underestimated, she can be quite a beast when it comes to football, and relentless in her efforts to win the match.

Left-Midfielder: Toffee N' Custard - 4 weeks
A great power-sub, Toffee has the capability to turn a game around. With her superior strength and pace on the wing, as well as her remarkable crossing skills, she is a commonly used sub when in a dire situation. She would be a great starter, and would start if it were not for HoneyPie, but she still does possess valuable skills for the team.

Centre-Midfielder: Lamb N' Mint - 5 weeks
Lamb is a key player in centre-midfield. Holding the captains pie sash, he coordinates the team from the midfield, and maintains the structure of the team. He is a dominant midfielder type, with a good array of passes available to him at seconds notice. He is very elusive, and can pull a few tricks off. He was a great captain in the World Cup, holding the pies together as they marched out of the group stage, and only showed signs of age and weakness in the loss straight after the groups. He will be looking to make sure the same frailties don't appear again in the World Cup.

Centre-Midfielder: Blue Berry - 4 weeks
Naturally, her favourite colour is blue. She is also a valuable asset to the team, providing great support to Lamb in midfield. She normally hangs back a little bit compared to Lamb, who is more of an attacking central midfielder, but their base positions is Centre-Midfield. While she is not as talented as Lamb, she still has a good pass, especially long passes, and can help out in defence with her tackling skills when needed.

Centre-Midfielder: Cherry Cream - 3 weeks
Cherry is a strong sub. A power-sub in her like, she has the skills of the other centre-midfielders, just doesn't have the stamina to last a whole match. She made some impact on the game, but she never was able to fit in after being subbed on, and will not be in the running for a starting position in the World Cup. If she can develop her stamina, and develop consistency in her performance though, then in a week or two, she may find herself in a starting role on the National Team.

Centre-Midfielder: Chicken N' Mushroom - 2 week
A young, developing player, Chicken is only here really to gain experience of an international tournament. He does have some talent, but is not yet on par with the other players. Certainly a player for the future.

Right-Midfielder: Pork N' Tomato - 4 weeks
An experienced winger, but not so much a paced winger. What he doesn't have in pace though, he makes up for in strength, and can ward away opposition players with his bulky body, using it to his advantage. He also has good crosses. He is able to utilise his strength, and his decent crosses from outside the box.

Right-Midfielder: Corned Beef - 5 weeks
Corned Beef is a great sub winger. He is relatively pacey, making him a great power sub, but his lack of stamina means he struggles to play a whole game. Slightly larger pie than others, so harder to tackle and be tackled. He did have some impact on the few games he played a part in but didn't get much game time due to the domineering performances of Pork N' Tomato.

Offensive

Left-Forward: Green Grape - 4 weeks
With an eye for the target, Green is perfectly placed to score goals. Also open to moving out wide to take a wider supporting role at points, Green performs a great role in left-forward. Pace helps her to get around, with power in her shots and crosses allowing her to get the ball to the destination with ease.

Left-Forward: Key Lime - 5 weeks
A great sub in left-forward, Key makes a rapid impact on the game, and can often be used to get last minute goals. Slower than Green, and with less pace, she is a weaker player in general, but initially, the fresh pair of legs gain the Great Pi team a dominant edge.

Centre-Forward: Shepherd's Pie - 3 weeks
Accuracy and power provide a lethal combination for Shepherd's. With the ability to do both long and short shots with ease, he provides a dangerous threat on the goalkeeper, which they must be aware of at all times. Pace isn't exactly his strong suit, but he is good with headers, which helps with crosses and corners.

Centre-Forward: Steak N' Kidney - 4 weeks
A strong player in centre-forward, he is let down by his lack of power which makes his shots easy to save. However, he is still good with headers, which helps with crosses and corners, which are one of the key tactics of the team.

Right-Forward: Strawberry Rhubarb - 3 weeks
Strawberry makes for a great right-forward. She can play wide, with strong crosses, provide a supporting role in midfield, or even take shots ourself, with her accuracy providing her with the bullseye most of the time. However, she is not the best striker on the team, and played a slightly more back role in the striking formation, pushed out to the wings by Shepherds.

Right-Forward: Tarta de Santiago - 4 weeks
Tarta is a player with decent pace, but a lack of stamina to last the match. She has good long shots, but struggles under pressure near the goal, and prefers to go down the sweaty route, to avoid risking being punished by the 'Great Pi'. Tarta has been able to get some game time in, but when playing, hasn't made the impact that it was hoped she would make, with the pressure of the other teams degrading her performance.

Audioslavia is, both ICly and OOCly, rather ancient. The country was founded on December 17th 2002, a period regarded as 'pre-history' by many. The nation originally CTE'd in 2006, was revived briefly in 2007 and 2009, and enjoyed a proper resurgence at the start of 2012, locating itself in Atlantian Oceania indefinitely after IC centuries of rivalries with various nations in the region.

The Audioslavia national side participated in World Cups 4 to 29, made an abortive comeback in World Cup 37, and rejoined the world of international football properly back in World Cup 59. The ancient Audioslavia side qualified for all but one of the World Cups it entered (a young Audioslavia failed during the WC5 qualifying playoffs) and generally maintained a place in top twenty of the world rankings, peaking at #1 during the qualifying phases of World Cups 20 and 21.

Paradoxically, the national team has seen more success in its modern form - a period where quick success is arguably more difficult to achieve than in the early days. Whereas those early years yielded only the inaugural U21 World Cup and a string of losing finals in the World Cup proper, the modern team won the Baptism of Fire tournament before WC59 and triumphed in the thirty-fifth, thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth installments of the AOCAF Cup. The side have also reached the final of the AOCAF cup on four other occasions and have reached as far as the semi-finals of the Cup of Harmony.

Modern Audioslavia finally won the World Cup itself in cycle 63, a victory that required a huge amount of luck and some very po-faced, negative football. Audioslavia managed to win the tournament despite going into the qualifiers with a ranking of #53 in the world. Four years later, in World Cup 64, the national side proved that this win, as fortunate as it was, was no flash in the pan when they again took home the World Cup trophy, completing the first ever 'double-double' of winning back-to-back AOCAF and World Cup championships. After forty-three cycles, Audioslavia returned to the rank of #1 in the world.

That era, from cycles 59 to 64, yielded two World Cups, three regional championships and the Baptism of Fire tournament. Since then, however, Audioslavia seem to have regressed into their old ways. The side have staunchly remained a top 10 team for over 13 cycles now and are cemented as an absolute powerhouse of world football, but are without further championships to show for their endeavours. Furthermore, World Cups 67, 69 and 76 saw the team lose the final match to Polar Islandstates, Holy Empire and Northern Sunrise Islands respectively, bringing their win/loss ratio in World Cup final matches to a lop-sided 2-7 record. As if that weren't embarassing enough, Audioslavia have been knocked out in the quarter final stage to Krytenia in each of the last three AOCAF Championships.
Audioslavian footballers tend to be a little on the small side, with few players standing over six feet (1.83m) tall. The average Audioslavian footballer stands at around about 5'8 (1.72m) or thereabouts, though most goalkeepers and central defenders are at least 5'11, and tall, strong strikers have become increasingly common in the Audioslavian game.

Audioslavian footballers are renowned for their high fitness levels and stamina, though a comparatively lithely framed squad do occasionally have problems when facing large, physical teams. Quick, one-touch passing is the key to Audioslavia's midfield prowess, which likes to play at a high tempo, and the side often take advantage of some fleet-footed wingers and full-backs to play through-balls beyond the opposition's defensive line after having created the space with some quick interchanges. Audioslavian attacking football was built on the idea that two crisp, quick passes around the opponent's penalty area will lead to a goalscoring opportunity, and as such the team's forward line throughout history has been littered with quick-thinking play-makers and dead-eye finishers.

Recent Audioslavian sides haven't been without their weaknesses. Since the retirement of the players that led the nation to glory in cycles 63 and 64 the teams have tended to lack true leadership figures on the pitch. Our nation's footballers tend to be stubborn with regards to letting peers tell them what to do. Audioslavian teams sometimes tend towards disorder and in-fighting when truly on the back-foot - say, when one or two goals behind in a game - and are easily disheartened when things start to go wrong. On the pitch, the side's lack of physical strength means defending against corners is often a problem, despite a well-drilled defensive line. Marauding full-backs can be susceptible to counter-attacks via the wings, and very few centre backs in Audioslavia are particularly quick.

Kontrapuntzeka has long been the name of Audioslavia's style of play, taken from the Auskadian word for 'counterpunch'. Audioslavia's ability to hold teams at bay for long periods before hurting them via quick counter-attacks and short bursts of activity helped the side to its two World Cup victories. As the years have gone by, Audioslavia have had to veer away from the style as opponents start to adapt and change. The system that won two World Cups in a row doesn't quite hold against modern football teams. The national team have never really adapted a new style, however

Audioslavia's squad has traditionally consisted of a multitude of Audioslavians plying their trade abroad, including a number of nationalised foreign-born players. The progression of the LigAnaia, however, and the success of the Audioslavian National League afterwards, has seen an larger proportion of domestic-based players make the national team squad. AC Izotz Zubia and 1830 Cathair are the traditional heavyweights of Audioslavian football and have, in the past, provided the national team with an abundance of national team players, but the resurgence of Moreazerua and Itzalovalle as footballing powers, and the arrival of previously unheralded Eletti Valligiani at Audioslavian football's top table, has given the national squad a very domestic feel in recent years.
A mainstay at centre-half for a decade, Frantzko Intxausti knows his way around the Audioslavian national team. A successful manager at AC Izotz Zubia after ending his playing days there, Intxausti was nevertheless criticised heavily during his reign at Zozi despite winning the Champions Cup, Audioslavian national league and LigAnaia in his tenure. Fans believed he hadn't made the best of the assets available to him, and succumbed the side to one or two very ordinary upper-mid-table performances despite having arguably the strongest squad in the league.

Intxausti is a cautious manager, and his games so far have relied upon a strong defence forming the basis for attacks and counters, although currently without the true manpower to accomplish such a feat, with a defence that is either on the wrong side of thirty or with less than a handful of caps to their names.

Roleplaying permissions: We frown on god-modding if there isn't a sense of humour behind it. Everything else is fine. If you'd like to injure a few players or dish out red cards for a particularly harsh game, go right ahead, go hog wild. Want to injure the entire team in a bus-crash? Fine, but make it good, or suffer the humiliation of having your limbs scattered hither and thither via a blast from my mighty ignore-cannon.

One general rule about the Audioslavian national team is that we are very, very often the 'fall guy'. We've lost so many big matches - WC finals, AOCAF finals, you name it - that we've come to thrive on being the big baddie who gets their comeuppance at the end. If your team has a particular strength or tactic that they like to use, by all means use it against us and RP that it worked tremendously. The scorinator may well show us to have won, but don't let us get away with it without having had a jolly good scare first, and make sure to *really* rub it in our faces if you beat us. Anything that makes it fun to RP. We wouldn't have it any other way.

World Cup 77 Qualifiers Squad

Image

This tournament marks the third attempt to qualify for the World Cup for Brigantii.

Coach: Norman Atkins. Two sixth place finishes and a League Cup final with an average Landfell team were enough to catch the eye of the F.A. who ousted the previous coach following disappointing results in the previous World Cup qualifiers. Atkins tenure has started under inauspicious circumstances with the Stags struggling to win in the Wyrmgore championship qualifiers.

Starting XI

GKP. Trent Harell. Hogghampton. Managing another marvellous 16 clean sheets, the Hogghampton stopper has been propelled into the number 1 spot.

RB. Harry Melville. Rookscroft United. The wingback hasn't been displaced from his position of starting right back for club and country for years and looks set to continue for a while to come.

CB. Jamie Gallagher. Albertpool. Solid at the back with a no-nonsense approach to defending. Row Z before trying something flashy, every time.

CB. Leroy Emmet. Brierthorne. Initially debuting as an ungainly spaghetti man, he's bulked up and now has some muscle, may be on the way to a bigger club.

LB. Byron Samuels. Albertpool. The wingback has just gotten better and better, even finding his scoring boots from left back and has made several appearances for his club as a left winger.

CM. Jarred Stevenson. Albertpool. The midfielder is the captain and the engine in the Brigantii midfield. He is also the team's designated penalty taker.

CM. Aaron Ramsbottom. Marketnewton. A flashy player who adds a little excitement every time he plays, but plagued by personal problems.

CM. Stephen McNamara. Real Minanda. The winger was part of a multi-million pound deal that saw him move to Cusco. Fast, agile and one of the better dead ball specialists in the team.

WF. Zack Wilbraham. Rookscroft United. The forward has forced his way into the starting line up for United and will be deployed as a wing forward for his country, hoping to capitalize on his pace

CF. Darrel Fry. Skyte City. The striker finished top scorer for the North East club and has managed to overtake Andrews and Winter in the pecking order with a series of fine performances for his club.

WF. Michael Irwin. Real Minanda. The diminutive forward has exceptional pace and a goals to games ratio that has seen him move to the Cusco capital.

Subs

GKP. Ray Hurst. Rookscroft City. Displaced in favour of Harell, Hurst has been a solid shot stopper for club and country.

CB. Terence Shelby. Madonnachurch. The centreback has improved over recent years to the point where he's now in the national team and making a name for himself in the League.

CM. Russ Baker. Rookscroft City. Short, stocky and with a decent engine, the midfielder can be a little flashy at points when he should just do something a little more basic.

RM. Rowan Newell. Ridgemont Town. After transferring to Belle-Isle on Sea, the pacy winger returned to Ridgemont following their promotion from League 1. He's a regular feature in the squad and would be guaranteed a starting spot if the team played a 4-4-2

CF. Trevor Winter. Marketnewton. He's a big, powerful centre forward who has managed to score goals for both club and country on his way to winning league titles.

Reserves

…. Have not yet been released..

Brigantii's home games are played at the 90,000 seater Warbury Stadium. The stadium has been home to the national team for well over one hundred years (despite this only being Brigantii's second World Cup qualifying campaign) and is located in the district of Warbury in the capital city Eborum.

For visiting teams and fans, Brigantii is a modern nation, with good public transport. The language spoken is Brigantii English and written form allows for the use of U in words like colour and favourite. The people of Brigantii like a beer, which means the fans can get a little rowdy, but there hasn't been any problem with hooliganism for decades. The locals appreciate proper manners, please and thank you will get you a long way and if you're stuck for something to talk about, just mention the weather.

The Suns team that faces up for World Cup 77 is the same as the team that played in World Cup 76 and the inaugural Independent's Cup. With legendary coach Joric Ruskin retiring at the end of 76, Adam Johnson was called in as a temporary replacement for the Independent's Cup, and did so well that he has been retained for the World Cup.

Head Coach: Adam Johnson
After the retirement of Joric Ruskin following the 76th World Cup, the Barunian Football Association struggled to find a replacement. With none yet found, and the Independents Cup looming, they put out a call to Adam Johnson, coach of the West Bay Mariners in Barunia's X-League. After making it to the semi-finals in his first tournament, the BFA are satisfied to give Johnson the task of leading the team in a World Cup campaign.
NB: As is typical of football teams in Barunia, the Suns do not have a manager. The Coach is responsible for managing the team.

Osarius Squad for World Cup 77

Image
Team: Osarius National Football Team (aka "The Firebirds")
Style modifier: +1.5 (counter-pressing defence; possession-based attack)
Manager: Ayanna Barca-Carthy
Assistant Manager: Autumn Phelps
Captain: Daniele Gentile
Vice-captain: Fabio Mancini
3rd captain: Demetrio Constantini
((Note: There is also a wiki link in my sig which may prove useful, though not entirely up to date at the moment))

Home stadium: Mount Crown Stadium, Burningham (cap. 98,000 all seated)
The Firebirds' home stadium is built at the foot of the imposing Mount Crown, on the outskirts of the capital city, Burningham. Fans are known for their extremely vocal support, and the Osarian national stadium has been described as a difficult place to play. The stats support this notion, as Osarius boast a superb record there over the past two decades. The most vociferous home fans are seated in a kop-esque stand built into the mountainside, with the huge, rocky face behind them adding to the intimidation. The pitch itself is usually made shorter, but wider than most, which is likely highly unfamiliar to most visiting teams. This is deliberate, as these odd dimensions cater to the short midfield passing and counter pressing style the Firebirds employ, as well as their frequent use of width. As a result, long-ball teams will likely find it difficult to find space behind the defence, but teams making liberal use of wingers will likely flourish. In a similar vein, a high offside trap (near the half way line, for example) will likely be more difficult to pull off, due to the speed at which a transition can occur -- with forwards still onside in their own half -- and limited space between defence and midfield.

My RP Permissions are pretty chill to be honest.
Pretty much anything goes, I only ask that you let me decide the severity of any injuries you decide to RP for me, please.
Send my players off if you must -- if its a player I really didn't wanna lose for the next game, I'll RP an appeal or something.
Oh and at the risk of sounding a bit "RAWR" ... do not kill any of my players or coaching staff (unless I say go ahead via TG).
Killing fans is okay though. Go nuts with that if you like.

I have a pretty clear tactical philosophy in mind for my team so I recommend at least skim-reading the next section, or the wiki page on the "Osarian 4-3-3", if you intend to RP the match in detail. Long story short, Osarius generally play in a style that is something like Arsenal's invincibles -- in that it's both possession based AND counter attacking -- while lining up in a Xavi/Messi-era Barcelona type 4-3-3 formation. It is unlikely a nation ranked outside the top 20 in the world could outplay them in midfield or win the possession game, but they are far from invulnerable, and have been overcome by teams playing even the simplest of tactical systems at times.

The team will generally attempt to control possession rather than engage in consciously defensive play; and "parking the bus" is a cardinal sin. If defensive tactics are called for, they will typically be proactive in nature, i.e. pressing from the front, high defensive line, etc. Rarely will the team defend passively.

When out of possession, the team will generally press high up the pitch to compress the available space -- because they are largely comfortable playing the ball under pressure -- and try to win the ball back as quickly as possible, sometimes over-committing, and leaving themselves vulnerable to a swift counterattack. Generally pacy defenders help to alleviate this problem somewhat.

Against stronger opponents, expect to see a more defensive positioning manifest itself. Fullbacks will be less likely to bomb forward, and the team tends to be more conservative in possession, often playing backward to draw the opposition in, before launching a devastating counter attack with pace. They will also slow down when ahead later in the game, but only so they don't unnecessarily provide opportunities to lose possession and/or concede. This doesn't mean they wont take the opportunity to score if it presents itself, though...

The front line is often very flexible, with all three/four players (usually) capable of playing in multiple forward roles. Most of the time, the centre forward/striker will remain the focal point of the team's central attacking, though, whether they are receiving passes or moving to make space for the wingers. Failing that, there will be a playmaker behind them in some capacity... I'll get to that in a bit.

The midfield can almost always be simplified into a three, and most of the time will line up in way that they form a sideways arrow (minus the shaft). By this, I mean that one will sit deep, one will push forward, and one will be a box-to-box type shuttling between the two.On the occasions no specifically named attacking midfielder ("AM" in the squad list) is used, typically it is an indicator that the manager expects a tighter battle for possession in the midfield zone, and it's likely two midfielders will be box-to-box, while the third midfielder is a more defensively-inclined (possibly even a "DM") option.

If there IS an attacking midfielder on the pitch, they will operate either as a playmaker, and most passages of play will go through them... or they will push forward from midfield a lot, getting onto the end of passes in the final third, and thus scoring a fair few goals in a manner not too unlike a "second striker" or "trequartista". I'll try to highlight which of the two if I feel like it really matters. Typically speaking, if none of the other two midfielders is mentioned as being outright defensive, the attacking midfielder is a "playmaker" type.

Defensively, Osarian centre-backs are typically pacy and expected to have strong aerial ability and good positional awareness. The latter part is less important if a player is particularly quick, though. Almost certainly, one of the centre backs or the goalkeeper will be good at organising the defence. In cases where there is a notable lack of organisational skill -- typically in situations lacking experience -- there is a clear knock-on effect on the rest of the team. With that in mind, don't expect starting centre backs to be among the younger or less experienced members of the team.

The fullbacks typically overlap a lot -- considering how often the wingers change sides and become "inverted" (i.e. cutting inside the defender on their stronger foot, rather than pulling wide) -- and seem to operate almost as advanced as wingbacks (or even midfielders against considerably weaker teams) a lot of the time, making the system a sort of like a 3-4-3 when Osarius attack, due to the deepest central midfielder dropping back to a position right in front of the defence, to counter against a potential playmaker "in the hole" for the opposition. This can be a potential weak point if this player is small in stature, as they will often get drawn into the backline and thus, potentially mismatched against forwards.

If you did read the spoiler above, thank you! You don't have to stick to all of that, but I feel like it gives more material if you wanna get into the details. Also, tbh, it just fits in better with the way I intend to RP my team (when I can).

Set piece preferences (in order):
Corner kick takers: Whichever wingers/wide forwards are on the pitch
Penalty takers: Watson first choice, then Johnson, then any other striker, then Gentile or any attacking midfielders, then whoever the hell you want.
Free kick takers: Watson first again (because he has powers and is significantly more likely than average to score), then whoever really
Long free kicks: Constantini or Monteforte

Something that is important to know is that football isn't entirely the number one sport in Osarius. It sort of shares that status with GraviBall, which still enjoys more widespread popularity, as well as commercial and financial interest.

Footballers in Osarius are loved if they cover a lot of ground and make tough tackles, because the combative nature of the game is what the majority of fans like most. Very passionate, are Osarian fans, you see. Sooo... basically, if you're not scoring goals or making crunching tackles, the fans generally aren't impressed. That goes for opponents too... Osarian fans always appreciate a good tackle, so they will even applaud opposition players at times (although they will boo their goals, obvs).

The complicated tactical systems used by modern Osarian teams are well-understood by the fans, and a growing football blogging community within Osarius often has in-depth tactical discussion, and regularly posters show great insight. This is thought to be the result of a general increase in coaching quality throughout the nation, which has also contributed heavily to the national team's increased degree of success in recent years.

From time to time I'll make reference to the area a player is from, and when I do, I will try to add an OOC note to explain what it means, because different regions of Osarius have almost entirely different cultures. Same goes for ethnic groups, and I'll actually explain all of this in a factbook or something eventually, I swear!

Manager: Ayanna Barca-Carthy
You'd be forgiven for thinking Ayanna has a chip on her shoulder. She absolutely does. Horrifically underrated and underappreciated despite her achievements both as a player and since, she exudes an aura of strength. Much like her predecessor Serenity Lewis, there is a clear vibe that she is not to be messed with, though not in the same way. Whereas Lewis was an intimidating figure partly by virtue of her appearance, Barca-Carthy is not. At all. Her expressions and words are what people fear most. Fiercely opinionated in her playing days, she has become a little more subdued as she got older, though there is a quiet fire burning beneath the surface. Don't expect rants and shouting. She's a master of the "teacher/mom voice" and expressing disappointment in such a way it feels like you just murdered a thousand puppies. Highly effective, apparently. This is not to disparage her leadership skills in any way. She is in fact, a natural at that. Her primary aim as a leader, she says, is to equip those she leads with the tools to lead themselves. Interpret that as you will.

National Stadium
Capacity: 72,000
Location: Just outside the capital Olastaryn.
Description: The national stadium of Olastor, it has only hosted (till now) the Olastor national teams matches, and nothing else, as there is no cup competition yet in the country, and the league teams based in Olastor are based in different stadiums. Given its relative lack of use, its pretty much brand new, and so it's a very good neutral venue, emphasising the support of any team coming here even more than usually happens. Being situated out of the main city makes it hard to miss as one of the few landmarks in its surrounding area.

RP Permissions: Try to be realistic, no deaths/injuries without my permission, otherwise knock yourself out.

Roster to be fleshed out in future.

Abristan's Squad for the 77th NS World Cup

Abristan is a small but heavily developed coastal nation in the Pacific that only recently became active in the sports roleplay scene during the Baptism of Fire 64, where they were knocked out in the round of 16 by Great Caledonia and North Hybernia.

After a strong showing in the Baptism of Fire 64 Abristan are back on the world football scene to show the world inexperience doesn't always mean weakness. The squad have been benefiting from increased funding since the Baptism of Fire and are looking in fine form for the tournament. A few familiar faces are also in the qualifying stages, and Abristan will be looking to pick up crucial points against other inexperienced, lower ranked teams.

The team will be looking to play the same fluid attacking football that saw them get out of their group unbeaten in the Baptism of Fire, with dangerously fast wingers like Muhsin Ortiz and Muhamad Del. Captain Jason Welshire will be looking to bring his international experience to the stage, after a 12 year career playing abroad in other countries. The squad is young, with an average age of just 22, which provides Abristan with hope for future World Cup cycles. Coach Matthew Harris will be looking to bring the tactical awareness that cemented his positive as captain of Carthage FC during his playing days.

The Isles of Avon are a small, irrelevant island chain nation in Eastern Rushmore off the coast of Terranea, south of Ceni. Drawkland wished to have territory in Rushmore, and given that Ceni had influence over Avon, "gifted" The territory to them.

Soon after, the Federation of Avonian Soccer was formed, and a league bloomed. The FAS League merged with Cenileague the next cycle to create I-League, which was surprisingly competitive between the Avonian rookies and the Cenian vets. They also did quite well in UICA competition, and the Isles of Avon are ranked 47th overall and still on the rise, mainly thanks to the great performance by the Golden Eagles.

The 11 best players in the league that could fill a needed position were talked to and were put on the National Team for a last-second entry by FAS to the Baptism of Fire and World Cup (which has seemed to flop). Dean Regis, who managed Northampton, the first winners of the the Avonian League, was selected due to his success.

They embarrassed themselves last World Cup cycle, and in 2 consecutive Copa Rushmoris, and are ready to embarrass themselves again. Here's to the midtable, my friends!

After the World Cup Cycle, they managed to get ahold of an order form for Meski and now they're far from the custom-printed T-shirts they ordered online and wore their first cycle. Pictured here are the Home, Away, and Goalkeeper jerseys in that order.

A pleasant, quiet archipelago. Scenic views, quaint cities, clean beaches, plays football sometimes.
Puppet of Drawkland. Neighbors to Ceni. Located in southeast Rushmore.
Co-hosts of Copa Rushmori 41. Domestic league: Federation of Avonian Soccer.

The 77th World Cup Qualifying Squad of the Republic of Sameba

Manager: Fernando Valdez (48, Sameba)

Please be presented with information on the honourable new managing coach of the Republic of Sameba. It was unfortunate that our former coach Catherine Bardsley was dismissed, though the purity and spirit of this nation's culture has persuaded her to remain within our borders for the forseeable future, entirely of her own volition! Now we are led by a hero of the national mission, the excellent Fernando Valdez! He is 48 years of age and an iconic figure in Sameba's footballing heritage, having led the team as captain for many years, accumulating 107 caps and 3 goals. Driven by passion for his country and for the sport, and supported by the Green Army, he shall surely oversee a new era of prosperity and triumph! Glory to Sameba! Indeed, he has already produced excellent results, with Sameba producing one of their best qualifying performances at World Cup 76, almost making the playoffs. They then finished third at the 26th Copa Rushmori, the best performance in the Greens history! Onward, comrades!

Please note that the following players, who have accumulated many caps, have betrayed the great republic by retiring or boycotting the team:

Fabio Quella,
Michael Sarado
Levi Andetel
Eugene Sabattini
Pablo Dohi
Alan Dabix
Ben Esposito

Assistant Manager: Seryou Kobe (48, Sameba)

Imperial Anglatian National Football Team
THE EXPLORERS

Image
Image

After multiple cycles where they came just short, where they reached some highs by getting upset wins and then experienced the ultimate lows by missing out on the World Cup in bad ways, the Explorers made it. Even while the Imperial Anglatian Football Federation was wracked by scandal, the talent of the young generation shone through and led to the Explorers pushing past several teams that were considered much better, and when everything was said and done, they were at the top of their group in their first ever qualification. But now, the debutantes will be under new leadership. The scandal that rocked the IAFF to its core also caused the Imperial Superleague to be dissolved and caused manager Yanick Martins to be sacked after the best ever season for the team. Now, former rival manager Raven Cullen has jumped from Brenecia to Anglatia after the former's underperformance led her to be sacked. It's going to be up to her and to the young talent that's recently come into the team to take them to heights unknown now.

TEAM INFORMATION
Nicknames: The Explorers, The Purple Machine(by the press)
Style Modifier: +3
Formation: 4-3-3
Tactics: Anglatia will play a quick game that moves at a high tempo, and they'll alternate between sitting back and defending and striking quickly with the attack, often on the counter. They prefer to let the opponent make the first move and react to it rather than attacking straight away, and their game is based on controlling the tempo when they have the ball and disrupting the opponent's tempo when the other team has the ball. The center forward won't play as a true striker but rather as more of a false nine, and will start off in a deep position and then move forward when the ball reaches the other forwards. Both inside forwards will also aggressively attack the ball when it's possessed by the back line, meaning this position is filled with players that have good stamina and high motor. The inside forwards also serve as creators in the attacking third, with the job of holding up the ball and sending it into the box when help arrives from other parts of the pitch. In the back, the back four is composed of two fullbacks with one focusing on chance creating and the other focusing on defending, and two center backs. One center back is more of a ball player who can quickly get the ball forward after winning it, the other is there for physical presence.
Stadiums: The first of the main stadiums are the Bank of Ross Park(76,000), which is located in Ross, the capital of the Empire. The stadium is very new, and was constructed to be the home of Ross United for many years to come. It has a typical pitch, but the steep stands have an interesting effect that makes it an intimidating place to play. Next in the order is the Steelworks(102,000), located in Bathgate. The jewel of the Eastern Anglatian stadiums is massive, and the pitch is the maximum allowable size by the NSWC. As a result, it takes good stamina to be able to play at a high level here. Many teams, including the Explorers, have thought that it would be like a normal stadium before actually playing there and finding themselves exhausted by halftime because of the giant pitch. Finally, AirValeria Arena(80,000) has hosted plenty of matches in Underfell and always hosts at least a couple every cycle. It's the home of Underfell FC, and when the roof is closed, the noise from the fans echoes back down to create a cauldron of noise.

TEAM STAFF
Executive of the Federation
Rory Abney, 47(Anglatia)
The Imperial Anglatian Football Federation hasn't been without scandal recently. It's been the complete opposite, in fact, with plenty off scandal rocking the team and the surroundings this cycle. That scandal caused most of the leaders in the IAFF to be arrested on corruption charges, and Rory Abney was one of the few who wasn't. Because of his honesty and his good work as one of the lower ranking executive board members, he's found himself as the interim exec. Some fans want the interim title to be dropped completely and for him to become the full time executive. He's responsible for bringing in Cullen, which has his popularity up with the fanbase.
Manager
Raven Cullen, 54(Brenecia)
Nobody expected to see Raven Cullen sacked when the predictions came out at the start of the cycle where Brenecia failed to qualify, and nobody expected her to end up in Anglatia either. But things didn't happen as they were expected in either Anglatia or Brenecia. The scandal happened at the same time as Brenecia's struggles, leading to the Imperials having the chance to bring in a manager from a top ten team in the world. Cullen's Brenecia teams attacked at a high tempo, similar to Anglatia, and while her style was more offensive, she should fit in just fine managing the Explorers. She'll still have fast and athletic, but not necessarily technically skilled, players at her disposal in the attack. And unlike Yanick Martins, she's taking over while the team is on a high and not trending down. The Raven Cullen era should go well for Anglatia, if she can bounce back from the ending to her last job. If not, her contract is only for two seasons.
Assistant Manager
Daniel Ponce, 41(San Jose Guayabal)
Most thought that when the Imperial team needed a new assistant, the appointment would come from within the team. That turned out to be false. Instead of promoting an existing staff member like everyone expected, the team got in contact with someone who works in Atletico Nacional in San Jose Guayabal. The federation continued their trend of drawing from more experienced teams that have had more success, and this time they've brought someone in that has experience working in both a more experienced federation and working with advanced date to make decisions, like the Imperial team wants to do.

PLAYERS
Starters highlighted in italics
Goalkeepers
#1 Costin Anghelescu - 23 - Free Agent
#99 Emile Jacques - 29 - Imperial Saint Rainier
#13 Blaze Chrzanowska - 19 - Rosenpfelblatz City(Abanhfleft)

This goalkeeping group is pretty weak, with two normal keepers and one keeper that's on the roster as an emergency reserve. Keeper has long been a weakness for the Explorers, who have seen a number of keepers walk through their doors and start before falling to inconsistency, and Blaze Chrzanowska has been highly promising but now she's out with a pregnancy and is basically only on the roster in an honorary position to keep her from feeling bad about getting cut from the squad right after the Explorers make it to the WC. She's not playing, so the starter is still Costin Anghelescu.

Like most Imperial keepers, he's hot blooded and tetchy, but his reflexes are top of the line and he was dominant while he was with Xera Bay Sporting. While he's fiery, he's still a good communicator, which should help the back line. Behind him is Imperial Saint Rainier keeper Emile Jacques, making his first appearance with the national team based on his performance in Patierrean league. Jacques is more of an athletic, diving keeper, instead of a stand up keeper like Anghelescu.

Defenders
#4 Emily Hakkarainen - 19 - FC Rastaka
#3 Hector Grier - 28 - Real Azuris(Cosumar)
#22 Lukas Aukland - 25 - Free Agent
#5 Bozidar Pavlovic - 21 - Underfell FC

#85 Leonne Warner - 23 - Rosenpfelblatz City(Abanhfleft)
#21 George Hesperos - 23 - Ross United
#20 Ake Gustafsson - 23 - Eastport City
#40 John Fidalgo - 19 - Ross United
#7 Joao Francis Inciarte - 27 - Free Agent
#90 Sive Vacek - 18 - Sportimg Ceneisis(Abanhfleft)

This defense has been shaky, getting beat sometimes on a high line, and before the World Cup, there's some tweaks to make it more effective. Bozidar Pavlovic replaces Joao Francis Inciarte at right back, because Inciarte's game is too modeled around attacking and not defending. Pavlovic is a true two way fullback that can create chances without abandoning his defensive duties, and after waiting his turn, he's back in the starting lineup.

Lukas Aukland was much maligned for his numerous defensive mistakes, but he managed to keep his spot against rising Ross United star George Hesperos, who replaced him when every Superleague player was released. It's believed that Aukland's international experience makes him more suited to playing in the World Cup than Hesperos is. Leonne Warner was also replaced by the younger Emily Hakkarainen, because as fast as Warner is, she doesn't have Hakkarainen's physical skills. Now, the team has two different versatile fullbacks, with Hakkarainen being able to bully even very good attackers off of the ball.

Midfielders
#18 Marco Saint Paul - 19 - Castle United(Redvale)
#10 Andros Diasakos - 28 - Free Agent
#0 Darren Harbin - 19 - AC Lane United

#85 Bram Norcliff - 31 - Imperial Falston(Ceyne Isles)
#16 Alicia Atlee - 19 - AC Lane United
#17 Axel Morrow - 19 - Ross United
#30 Kaden Espina - 27 - FC Holland

This is an insanely young group of midfielders. The starters are unchanged but the bench has been improved to fully utilize the young talent available to the national team. Still, there's a manageable lineup in the midfield right now. The formation is a triangle, with Darren Harbin playing very deep and acting as a libero that plays just above the defensive line, and Marco Saint Paul and Andros Diasakos sharing playmaking duties. Saint Paul would have the edge over Diasakos if the conversation is strictly about being able to make plays, as he can place the ball anywhere on the pitch from almost any position, in addition to being 6'3 and being able to hold up the ball, but what Andros Diasakos has that most players don't is instincts.

Diasakos hasn't played as a false nine like he did at times with Ross United when he's with the national team, but he still has the killer instincts to move into the right spaces and set up his teammates to score. In addition, he's a certified expert in longshots. Never leave Diasakos alone with the ball, because he's scored from distances of thirty or more yards on multiple occasions and semi regularly blasts goals from the outside of the box. Looking at the bench of this team, Alicia Atlee is the one that stands out. She learned from Allie Vacek and was Vacek's self proclaimed 'protege' for some years at the Lane Jets, and after graduating to Divison A, she was a starting member of the AC Lane United team that rolled through the league and destroyed just about all their competition. Another name to watch is Bram Norcliff, who is playing for one of the new clubs in the Ceyne Isles, Anglatia's newest territory. Norcliff wasn't just brought in for his veteran experience, but also for his ability to come in for Saint Paul without taking a ton of playmaking talent away from the team.

Forwards
#2 Jace Votto - 18 - Atletico Nacional(San Jose Guayabal)
#11 Allie Vacek - 19 - Sporting Ceneisis(Abanhfleft)
#8 Zahara Santana - 22 - Atletico Nacional(San Jose Guayabal)

#6 Hakki Ojala - 19 - Real Azuris(Cosumar)
#25 Clay Randle - 26 - Ross United
#23 Matt Henson - 25 - AC Lane United
#9 Nessa Chryst - 21 - Tel'Adre Phoenix(Flardania)

Because of injuries, we see something of a different lineup. Nessa Chryst is recovering from a fractured ankle, and she's on the bench because of that. But her replacement, Jace Votto, has been absolutely sensational. He's played as a false nine who starts off in a deep position before setting up teammates and then making attacking runs into the box, and he also has an uncanny instinct for finding the ball after deflections to put himself into good position. Votto might be 5'8, but his hard running style makes him hard to take down, and his vision complements his game very well. He'll be the big star up front and could be the answer to Anglatia's striker problem. After scoring 25 Division A goals with AC Lane United, Votto cashed in on his success by signing a one year deal with Atletico Nacional, in San Jose Guayabal.

Playing above him and next to him as inside forwards are Allie Vacek and Zahara Santana, the latter of whom is joining Jace Votto at Nacional. Vacek has played every attacking position from midfielder to striker, but has found a home in the national team at the right inside forward position. Similarly, playing inside has allowed Zahara Santana to take advantage of her dribbling skills when the ball is at her feet in the box. Both inside forwards will attack very aggressively when the opposing back line has the ball, and they serve as both attackers and creators who can shoot or pass to give the team some options. Santana is a better dribbler and playmaker, while Allie Vacek is maybe the biggest star on the team behind her vision, her innate ability to judge space, and her tight handling.

On the bench, there's some familiar faces in addition to new players. Hakki Ojala has been great and won the Champions Cup with Real Azuris, but the national team just hasn't found the perfect spot for him yet. He's been a steady substitute for club and country, and has been pushing Zahara Santana to play well and not lose her job. There's also Matt Henson, who also contributed 25 goals to AC Lane United. And of course, Nessa Chryst is here to step in if things get bad.

TEAM HISTORY
This is the fifth soccer/football tournament of any kind that Drawkland has officially competed in in the multiversal stage. After taking on the Global Cup of Soccer, Independents Cup, the Baptism of Fire, and somehow breaking through and qualifying for the World Cup, Drawkland has proved they mean business.
This is the official form of the roster, featuring a Reserve Roster in addition to the Main Roster. After having periods of smaller and less solid rosters, the Kick Corps management have finally solidified the lineup. The Main Roster has featured a few changes from earlier tournaments and the Reserve Roster has been locked in. This is the lineup personally selected by the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) to represent Drawkland: those chosen are undeniably the best at what they do and excel under the team chemistry and dynamic.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the players are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Oh yes, and Drawkian Soccer is a female-only sport. This may change, but not for a *long* time. This is because Gridiron Football is all-male, and the other two major sports, Baseball and Basketball, are mixed-gender. If there's anything a Drawkian loves, it's even formats and symmetric paradigms, hence why things shook out like they did.
Most of the team, including the manager, are made up from home-grown talent, coming from the highest-quality teams. However, a few have branched out to foreign leagues, mainly those of Eastern Rushmore, that of Ceni and the Isles of Avon. More information on the players is to come later.

Global Cup of Soccer 1: The first tournament where Drawkland competed on the international soccer stage. It featured no reserve roster, the Starting XI were the only players sent to the Cup. Started with an exciting Group Stage, having a 3-3 draw with Averyickan City and a 1-1 draw against Lisander, a win against the Gregoryisgodistan Capital District, Ward 1 was needed to make it to the knockout rounds. And such a win was needed, in a high-octane 4-6 win. Wins on Paradisiam and Kosovakia slid the Kick Corps into the semifinals, where they unexpectedly flopped to Great Caledonia and North Hybernia on Penalty Kicks and proceeded to get mowed over 0-2 in the 3rd Place match by Free Republics, ending their initial campaign with a disappointing 4th place which they hope to never repeat in any tournament again. Despite the sour ending, though, the Corps got some much-needed chemistry and solidification, as well as confidence on the international stage, which hopefully proves to be invaluable in future tournaments.
Independents Cup 1: In the first Cup where Drawkland had a reserve roster, and therefore wider team options and more freedom to take chances, they were expected to do at least a little bit better, as far as team chemistry goes. However, the much tougher competition was definitely going to be a challenge, considering this would be the Drawkians' first exposure to absolute World-Class teams. Being drawn in a group with familiar names like Schottia, Revolutionary Nordskania, and Greater Vakolicci Haven went as expected, with a huge 0-4 loss to the most recent Cup of Harmony runners-up to start, a large 3-1 win over the underpowered Greater Vakolicci Haven, and a disappointing defeat to the Nordskanians, 3-1. However, despite the rather dismal performance, they still barely qualified for the knockout round. The defeat to Flardania, 1-0 in the Round of 16, was a little disappointing, but it proved that even if the Drawkians were going to go down in the playoffs, they'd make it a bloody hard match to win (such an assumption can easily be corroborated based on their GCoS performance).
Baptism of Fire 64: The big event, as it was referred to, was where Drawkland finally made their foray into the World Cup Cycle. Spirits were high going into the tournament and many were slating the Drawkians to take the whole tournament before it started. A 1-1 draw to Kernovi wasn't the start they imagined, but an 0-3 win on Turkmenbasyn followed by a 1-1 draw to Amnarei-asud was enough to send Drawkland to the knockout rounds. Winning 3-2 versus Ndaku in the first round, followed by an 0-2 win on Mriin was certainly expected, but a brutal 1-2 AET loss to none other than Amnarei-asud in the Semifinal sent the Corps to their second third place matchup, which was really not where they wanted to end up. However, they delightfully made light of the situation by beating the despised Great Caledonia and North Hybernia by a 3-2 margin to at least get bronze.
World Cup 77 Qualifers: And, being placed in Pot 7 for their first-ever World Cup Qualifiers, it was expected Drawkland to finish mid-table. Especially with the likes of the up-and-coming power of Bonesea, the Old Guard of Jeruselem, and the Top Pots of Barunia, it would be a long shot for Drawkland to qualify. But, somehow, on amazing circumstances that lasted all the way to the final minutes of the final match against Barunia, Drawkland managed to scrape through and qualify in their first ever shot at qualification. On to World Cup 77, where they're sure to be annihilated by the much more experienced teams.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes
Yellow Card my Players: Yes
Red Card my Players: Yes
Godmod Other Events: Yes
As far as these go, I'm fair game for anything. You should know what is and isn't drastic RP, and if you think your RP is on the drastic side, TG me first. But I'm still basically up for anything.
I'd like to request that injuries or cards don't do anything outside of the scope of a single game or maybe 2. Don't want anything tournament or cycle-ending.
Red cards should be limited to late knockout stages, and I'd probably think that there should be no more than 2 players red carded per tournament.
Also, Ellzidan is a rather unique figure, as you'll come to find out, so you can go ahead and do some weirdness involving her if you'd like to make something less realistic occur. TG me if unsure.

Disclaimers of various sorts:
I don't know very much about soccer. If I RP something weird, it's because I have little to no experience with this sport. But whatever.
Player Information available via links. In future versions of this roster I'll make a more "extended" version.
If you have any questions about anything involving me, this team, my nation, this competition, life, etc., feel free to telegram me.
