It could possibly happen if they credibly believe that he actually plans to use, say, nuclear weapons. Or constantly threatens (and engages in) trade wars with some of our closest regional trade partners and allies. I have to assume that even they have a line that they won't cross, if not for moralistic reason then for pragmatic reasons. If he stands to cause too much damage, the political fallout from invoking the article may be seen as a necessity.

I wouldn't count it out - some Republicans are already tired of his shit, and we are less than a week into his term. I can only imagine what things will be like for them as time goes on. T

Ultimately you would need a 2/3 majority in both houses of Congress for that. I do not see that happening, even if there was support in the Cabinet. And anyway, Mike Pence scares me more than Trump.

It seems the new US Pres. is overdoing it. That he really is picking on Mexico. It seems he likes to keep repeating that Mexico will pay for the wall because its good for his popularity. He seems to want Mexico to agree (kowtow) which would really give him a popularity boost. In the end, he knows and the Mexican Pres. knows that the US can place a special tax on Mexican imports to the US or money transfer from the US to Mexico. Mexico gets 60% of its gasoline from the US so he could tax gasoline going to Mexico. He knows Mexico is very dependent on the US for trade. 82% of its exports got to the US. So they cannot really do anything. Of course, they could reciprocate when it comes to import taxes or tourist taxes.

Now for the other side. This play by the US Pres. is only helping to drag down the Mexican Pres. and his political party the PRI. Lapdogs , many in Mexico consider the Mexican Pres., PRI and even the PAN political party which many times seems in bed with the PRI. has lapdog s of the US. Mexicans also consider them corupt parties and responsible for many of Mexico's problems. All this is working to the advantage of the MORENA political party. A Left wing party which has been growing when it comes to members, unlike the PRI. and PAN. They were ahead in the polls when it came to winning the Mexican pres. elections before this current fiasco. So this current fiasco will only increase the percentage they win by.

I hadn't considered the effect Trump might have on the Mexican political landscape.
Should be interesting with the election so close what the newest presidents approach will be, particulaly given those who advocate strong anti-Trump policies will probably see a popularity boost.
