The Northern War [IC|closed|Regional|PMT]

The Northern War

The germanic state of the Second Deutsches Reich, holding total rule over the lands of Sweden. Over the years it has grown corrupt, decadent, slow, and bogged down by its own once magnificent bureaucracy. Most importantly it remains a dormant industrial base, contracted regularly to provide factories for the dirty industrial work needed to build weapons for the Entente.

The Entente, a shadowy alliance of nations united not by principles, ideology, nor visions but sheer willingness to do what needs to be done for the Greater Good, even as that vision of the Greater Good shifts between even members. It forms a bulwark of military power, both in technological prowess and sheer manpower to fuel wars and economies built to further war efforts first and provide consumer goods second.

As the government of the SDR has grown weaker, perilously close to collapsing under its own weight, its own neighbors have looked on with undisguised glee for its inhabitants, land, and industry. Surrounding the nation is the state of Nordeloupe, a young nation looking to expand its fortunes and reputation. To her south lays Oepolis, another young nation searching for glory.

These young states, with no hope of fighting their way through even the remnant forces of a collapsed SDR have amassed a multinational coalition behind them. With troops, supplies, and political support these emboldened nations marched their troops to the borders and began waiting for the imminent collapse.

Yet, even as the government weighs upon itself with corruption and infighting the approach of foes has given new wind to the struggling state. WIth a new cause to rally behind, the support and advice of their Entente allies, and confidence in the sheer size of their armed forces they stand ready to launch a counter attack to this affront to their honor. A single question remains on national leaders across the region,

In the great struggle over Europe's north, will the continent remain at peace?

Northern Operations HQ, Minsk, Belarus, The League of Eastern Orthodox Knights

"General Ionescu, our forces a are close to their target, but there's a problem."

The general looked at the young lieutenant. It's been only a few hours since The Holy Empire had pledged 5 million troops to help defend The People's Republic of Nordeloupe from the The Konstitutional Kaiserreich of The Second Deutsches Reich. The quick moving mechanized infantry and recon unit were close to reaching the Baltic Sea. Fleets of warships are currently making their way around the Iberian peninsula and would reach the blockade in a few days time. Bombers and fighter jets were ready to wreak havoc on any sort of threat, be it from land, sea, or sky.

"What is it lieutenant?"

"The enemy blockade is quite strong sir, if we try and punch threw we will lose extremely large number of our fleet. There is no garuntee that we'd be able to break them in the first place."

"Well then send in air support. Our boys can clear them out in no time."

"The enemy has long ranged anti-aircraft guns sir. As fast as our planes are they aren't quick enough to avoid them. We'll lose quite a few men."

"Damn!" Shouted the general. He knocked the papers off his desk in frustration. As he went to pick them up, one file caught his eye. He picked it up and said to the lieutenant...

"What do you know about Project New Horizons?"

"I'm on the board for that project sir."

"Is the HMSC Liberator ready to be deployed?"

"Yes sir, as are it's accompanying fleet of spacecraft."

"These ships can still function on earth, correct?"

"Yes sir, they are fully functional and ready to be deployed?"

"Would they be able to avoid the anti-aircraft shots?"

"Yes sir, they are significantly quicker than our aircraft."

"Get me on the phone with Director Ishick. We need to deploy them right now."

In the gargantuan hanger, hundreds of starships were fueling up and preparing for combat. But this fleet was dwarfed when compared to the enormous HMSC Liberator. Over 1000 meters long, this massive space craft could carry up to 300 spacecraft, fixed wing aircraft, and helicopters. A crew of roughly 15000 would man this behemoth. Director Ishick looked on with the pride of an inventor as the fleet readied for the journey ahead of them. A grizzled old sergeant walked up to the director.

"Sir the fleet is almost ready for takeoff."

"Good, tell Admiral Rattice that my orders are as follows, take out the antiaircraft weaponry with the light space craft first. Then send bombers and heavier spacecraft to punch holes in that blockade. Once the enemy line has several holes, send bombers and the naval fleet to clean up what's left of the enemy. If we play this right, we could have landing crafts on the beaches of Norway by tomorrow morning."

"Very well sir, should we send the Liberator with the rest of the fleet?"

"No, make sure those anti-aircraft guns are take down first. The liberator is a large target and we don't need it to take down the enemy line. Admiral Rattice will decide when it's appropriate to send in the Liberator."

"Very good sir. I'll let him know."

As the Sergeant walked off, Director Ishick turned back to the fleet and smiled grimly. The enemy would have no idea what hit them.

German Chancellery, Berlin | 6:40 PM
Following the capture of Oslo and Turku the Nordeloupean government requested a ceasefire and that a German ambassador be sent to Helsinki to begin peace talks. After careful consideration the German government agreed, sending ambassador Gerhard to the capitol to begin negotiations.

"Can we trust this isn't just a distraction to keep us occupied until reinforcements arrive?" Gerhard asked.

"There is never a way to know for sure, but considering our army outnumbers their entire population and the reinforcements in transit, i think its safe to assume that such an occurrence would offer little relief to them and would be a waste of what little time they have." Responded Chancellor Adenauer as he watched Gerhard board the plane.

"Well, I suppose we will find out when I arrive." Replied Gerhard as he boarded the plane, exiting Adenauer's field of view.
