Yeah. Of course, if Rome and Italia merge into the Italian-Roman Empire, the Romans can actually do something about weeding out the corruption and such in Rural Italia.
Perhaps Imperial Princess Valentina brings it up with the Emperor of East-Rome after he gets coronated, requesting that he talk to her father to try and convince him to do something about the corruption on the slave front?
Some would be abducted from Africa by slave traders, but most would be the poor/criminals of rural regions in Italia, especially non-Italians (such as Croatians, who were assimilated, among others).
That could happen. As I said, human rights are actually deeply rooted in the Roman society. Slavery is frowned upon.
Yeah. So, regardless of the end of the Italian Civil War, should things work out with a merger, slavery might finally get actually purged from Italia.

You are aware that a lot of the African states won't be THAT weak so your likely setting yourself up for diplomatic incidents you are more than welcome to enslave your own people...
Of course. Which is why most/nearly all slaves are non-Italians living in Italia's rural regions who happen to be poor or prosecuted of a crime.
