Biological Information: Most similar to earth arthropods in external appearance, they are actually warm blooded, have endoskeletons and only part of them have chitin any more. Most of their skin is still thick and leathery, and their venom is no longer very potent, actually causing a kind of euphoria and mild dulling of the senses anymore. Their three fingered pair of hands, while more dexterous than they appear, are better used for crushing, bashing, and other such power then delicate uses (Though they can do such delicate tasks, it just takes more training/experience than a human in the same task). They have long lost the ability to use silk, but as most of their body still has fine, sensitive hairs, they can sense movement through the air to a limited degree, and can do so (with some time to rehone their sense) with silk spun by their cousin species. That said, they are surprisingly good jumpers, as well as good climbers. Their lower arms are, in their current era, usually plated with sharp blades, or a plasma/laser weapon of some sort (Usually melee) as armor has gotten good enough to need improvements. Average hearing, but great eyesight, and a dull sense of smell. Omnivores, but with a heavily meat/fish based diet.
Culture: Surprisingly, the Jorrant have a culture centered more around the arts then military or personal might. In the past they have had a very strong warrior culture, some of which still shows in the modern day, but now writers, poets, actors, programmers, anyone who creates art (as well as the distributors) is placed at a higher social value than almost any solider or warrior could ever obtain. That said, much of their art is centered around combat, and the glory of conflict, and as such, they still have a very aggressive culture. A few highlights include the act of consuming ANY sapient flesh is considered repugnant, and in most systems, completely illegal. Slavery of any sapient being (and for most, indentured servitude is to close, and is usually illegal) is considered one of the greatest crimes one can commit, and has resulted in many wars with nations dominated by their cousins, the Vlesti. Tattoos indicating family name, great achievements, and chosen career are perhaps the most well known cultural aspect outside of the Union. While they do heavily adore military power, there is a great emphasis of honor, and only engaging military targets, only fighting civilians if civilians attempt to fight them first.
Other information Have some resentment for usually being viewed as brutish/violent due to their appearance, as they have, historically, usually been the defenders, not starting wars, only attempting to end them quickly.Species App
Species Name: Vlesti
Species Appearance: Thinner, and more lithe than their Jorrant cousins, blue skin/chitin. Their mandibles are smaller, and less powerful, but are able to move through a wider variety of movements, making them more clear, and precise speakers. Their hands have five fingers, and are far less armored than their larger cousins. Similarly, their lower arms are more delicate, and used less for combat, and more for helping spin their silk. Similarly, their legs are thinner, and less armored, but faster, more dexterous, and actually able to cling to walls and other materials that can hold their weight, though they are to heavy, and their limbs not strong enough to climb upside down, or cling tightly in windy conditions, they are still better climbers than the Jorrant, and often ambush from above.

Biological Information: Very much similar to the Jorrant (Think of the Jorrant, Vlesti, and Houdrirc as being about as far as (In order of distance) Gibbons, Chimps, and Humans)) but smaller, and more lithe. Significant differences include a larger amount of plants in their diet. They can actually spin silk strong enough to support their weight, though given their size and the amount of material involved, silk is used in thinner strands to bind simple objects, be spun into clothing, processed in other ways, and even used to sense movement in the area. Next, their venom is more potent, and is a paralytic, though it's rarely lethal on it's own. Their senses are all more sensitive than the Jorrant, and they tend to live in larger groups, with more connected families over the more single tribe mindset of the Jorrant.
Culture: Surprisingly, the Vlesti are the most aggressive of the three species. Historically, they have been the most dominant of the three sapient species sharing the homeworld, mostly due to their manipulative nature. Furthermore, despite it's illegality, the slave rings busted up are usually dominated by Vlesti, though some Houdrirc have been busted in them. Despite this, they are also well known as craftsmen, traders, and scientists, in that order. Handcrafted Vlesti products sell for quite a good amount, and are well known for their quality. The hair on their heads is usually kept short, unlike the shaggier Jorrant, and tends to be died a variety of colors, with the most common natural black of their hair/fur rarely being seen. They are also quite new for being strict bureaucrats, and even families keep private, accurate records of familial lines, taxes, property and more.
Other information Many pirates, smugglers, and slavers near the Aurora Union tend to be Vlesti dominated, or at least have one or two in their crew, giving the Vlesti a bad rap outside of the Union.Species App
Species Name: Houdrirc
Species Appearance: Even smaller than the Vlesti, and covered in fur, though they do have more chitin than either of the others. Their eyes are large, and their fur very vibrant, ranging from oranges to yellows to greens, with blue being very rare. Their hands have five fingers, like the Vlesti, but have a second thumb. Their mandibles are almost gone, becoming far more lip like than the others. Beyond this, their venom is a strong neurotoxin, though they have issues biting, they can spit the venom close to ten meters. Additionally, their upper arms, and legs have chitinous spikes that make them hard to grab. Unlike their other counterparts, their lower arms actually have smaller, six fingered, frail hands that allow them to manipulate more objects at once.

Biological Information: They have the most balanced diet of the three species currently in the union.Hardier than they appear, they are still quick, as well as strong climbers and jumpers, but tend to be pack hunters. While their silk is far more delicate then the Vlesti, they can spin more of it, making them adept trappers on a basic level. They are by far the most social, and interconnected of the three cousins, to the point where one could call them natural xenophiles. They are also intensely curios, and quick learners, especially with languages (Including computer languages).
Culture: They are incredibly social, and outgoing, placing this as their cultural norm. This often makes them the celebrity faces of the union. Beyond this, they place huge value on individuality, and the protection of it. These two things often make them diplomats, social workers, and politicians. They also have large, extended families, and often shove as many people into a building as they are allowed. That said, they can also be the most cruel of the three species, with a higher number of sociopaths then the other races (Somehow they occupy both extremes). This has led to many of them taking darker jobs, and a higher number of violent criminals in the population. Many say it's do to social pressure, as well as something to do with their size making them wired to use tactics like this to scare rivals.

Government Type: Meritocratic Parliamentary Republic
Description of Government: The Aurora Union contains three parliaments, each govern a different area of government, and have different levels of skill/experience needed to hold the position.
The Topaz Parliament - Covering education, research, genetic/cybernetic laws, and religion, the Sapphire Parliament is often the least cycled of the three, and gets the fewest number of voters of the three. That said, they have some of the strictest requirements, requiring Doctorate level education in their chosen field, as well as years of experience working in it. As such, they are often the oldest, and the most cool headed of the three Parliaments, and are a calming voice when the three convene.
The Sapphire Parliament - Covering all things military, as well as gun/weapon laws, and laws for private security firms/mercenaries/bounty hunters. The second most voted on group, and the most cycled, they are often the most heated voices when the three convene. Divided into three subsections, Navy (Holding 40% of the seats), Marines/Army (Holding 40% of the seats), and "Special Projects" actually called "Military Logistics" to the public (Covering 20%). They cycle the most as many members either return to the military after a single term, or retire, though some simply choose to enter a new line of work. Only commissioned officers with three years officer experience are eligible for seats.
The Malachite Parliament - Having the widest scope, and the most members, as well as the largest impact on the civilian populace, The Malachite Parliament is the most voted on group. Covering all civics, economics, laws on foreign products, and immigration, Malachite Senators are often the most varied of the three, coming from many career backgrounds, including the only area for career politicians. With such a wide variety of possible entry jobs, the restrictions are wide and varied, but usually include a minimum time of seven years in the chosen career.
It is the three parliaments that choose the President (Mostly ceremonial, but is the Commander-In-Chief and is usually a sapphire), while the Prime Minister (Actually called the Aurora Minister; Head of government, usually a Malachite, followed by Topaz, rarely a Sapphire) is chosen by popular vote, and only those in one of the Parliaments are eligible for either.
Representative groups are divided into Clusters (Groups of stars), Systems (Single Stars), Bodies (Planets/Major Habitation Platforms), and States (Planetary areas) with Governors, Overseers, Ministers, and State Heads.

History
Formed from three species sharing the planet of Ceovis, the Aurora Union is named from after the crystal mine (The Aurora Mines, due to the large variety of gemstones in it's tunnels) where the treaty that united Ceovis was signed after a brutal forty year war, many scars of which can still be seen scattered through the Jomia system. At first, it was a kind of constitutional monarchy, but in the 250 years since, it's become a parliamentary republic, and to avoid the inept leaders of the past, a meritocracy system was put in place. The species of the union have spread to the stars since then, colonizing, mining, and warring with their neighbors. Mostly though, they've fought amongst themselves, though inter-species tensions have dropped, there have been insurgent wars based around species divides. They have, however, made it very clear their space belongs to them, and guard it closely, responding harshly to anyone trying to take their claimed territory.
On the other hand, they've allowed trade with open arms, and even contract privateers to help defend the routes. The past twenty years has seen another big boost of expansion, with more worlds being settled, more mining operations started, and for the first time, no major internal conflict over the shifting balances of power and resources. The Union has taken a more diplomatic approach in recent years, though it still uses it's strength as a bargaining chip, preferring peace, and trade over the conflict of the past, though more militant groups have started gaining influence in the government once again as younger, less cool headed leaders cycle into the various parliaments. The biggest military shift lately has been a reassurance in railguns, as slug-plasma hybrids on the largest ships, creating a more carrier, and battleship focused navy, with middling classes seeing less use.

Pulse Pistol - An energy efficient plasma pistol is the standard side arm of the Aurora Union, mostly using hydrogen gas as fuel, but some more experimental models use heavier gasses.
X27 ACG - The X27 Automatic Coil Gun is mostly used by the Jorrant, and is fielded mostly in suppression roles.
Pulse Rifle - The standard infantry rifle, mostly used in burst fire, but the standard model is capable of Semi-Auto, Burst, and Auto. Comes with a 2-4x Scope linked to the helmet of troopers.
Heavy Rail Rifle - The standard sniper, and anti-material rifle of the Union, it does however have a low clip, though long battery life.
Plasma Rifle - A gun more prone to overheating than the pulse rifle, but hits harder, and a little more accurately. Also less energy efficient.
Fusion Thrower - A heavy missile weapon mostly used for disabling enemy vehicles, though there is a anti-air variant that has reliable tracking. Is a plasma based explosive.
Flash bang (Obviously), Plasma Grenade, Frag Grenade, Shield Grenade (Projects a small, weak shield bubble that lasts for about two minutes before running out of power (HEAVILY EXPERIMENTAL, prone to failure).
Topaz Rifle - A standard laser weapon(Newest models are low-grade xasers, and have yet to enter field testing), mostly used by Houdrirc due to it's low recoil, and high accuracy combined with it's low weight makes it perfect for the smaller species, as well as scouts (the the helmet projects the most likely trajectory of the beam, to a 99% accuracy rate), due to it's nature not revealing where it was fired from visibly, though scanners can still do so.
Fusion Mortar - Mortar that drops small fusion bombs on enemy positions.
H12 - A plasma bomb used in a similar role to C4
Plasma Mine - A plasma explosive mostly used in anti-vehicle roles, some variants also launch superheated chunks of metal (Antipersonnel variant).

SATUMBT-12 (The Malachite) - A main battle tank armed with a pulse cannon, and two X30 HACGs (Heavy Automatic Coil Guns) to deal with infantry threats.
ATFSAT-03 (The Peridot) - A artillery unit that uses fusion rounds to rain fire and death on any enemy in range.
ATACR-25 (The Geode) - A armored personnel carrier armed with a forward mounted railgun, and four X30 HACGs operated by the passengers, and one by the crew.
ATRRV-15 (Nicknamed the Onyx for it's black color scheme) - A lightly armored rapid reconnaissance vehicle armed with a pair of heavy pulse guns, and a passenger that can mount most standard heavy weapons on the back for increased stability while firing.
ATAAF-95 (The Topaz) - A heavy AA vehicle armed with twin Heavy Fusion Throwers, and two Heavy Pulse Guns, usually paired with at least two others.
Diamond Battle Suit - A Heavy suit of power armor allowing for the use of normally vehicle only weapons. Comes built in with a small shield generator, and is extremely tough. Adds about two feet to the height of it's user, depending on species.
Pumice Flight Suit - A suit of power armor mostly used for high altitude insertion, more well armored than the standard for the species, but is lightly armored by power armor standards.

Ruby Interceptor - Fast anti-fighter/bomber craft armed with automatic plasma guns, and two plasma throwers.
Pearl Multi Role Fighter - Moderately fast fighter that can engage other fighters/bombers, as well as do a little damage to ships. Armed with two X35 HACGs, two heavy plasma throwers, and one bay (containing five) fusion bombs.
Labradorite Bomber - Average (By bomber standards) speed, armed with three X35 HACGs, and 20 Fusion bombs. Also has anti-missile flares, and a single PD turret (Pulse).
Geode Assualt Dropship - Slow, but heavily armored (And the first ship class with shields). Armed with four X35 HACGs, and two heavy plasma throwers. Carries one platoon plus one standard vehicle in it's bay, then three more can be attached to the bottom.
