His constant fight against american imperialism to defend the dignity and sovereignty of that little Island 200 kms from the pigs, how can someone not admire him?
You can say everything about him but he's not making people die because of lack of money for medecines or from hunger, he is giving work to everyone, good quality education, participative politics just to tell something that USA lags behind them terribly.
So you can be a ruthless dictator as long as it's "anti-American Imperialism TM"
Yes, he was a terrible leader whom kept his people in a time capsule for his tyranny. Teaching people to read and write dosn't excuse brutally slaughtering those who stand against you and causing your population to flee in terror to America.

Even if all of what you say is true (which I doubt), at least in the USA political opponents are not silenced by firing squad.

I don't think "America" has a lot of room to talk, here. Considering the coups they staged and the kind of shit you guys have done in order to make sure the rest of the world does what you want.
Like I said before, I benefit from it so I don't give a fuck. But you can at least make sure to know the U.S. are not sweet little angels when it comes down to it.

Certainly better than Castro.

Actually, we're worse than Castro in our own record in just 50 years.
It's just that we're the ones doing it. So, we're biased. But that is the only reason why "it's better", because we're the ones doing it.
Does the US execute, imprison, abuse, and torture political dissidents?

Yes? What the fuck else do you think we were doing with Castro? Killing him because we just felt like Kennedy started a routine and we just couldn't stop going after the poor bastard because otherwise we wouldn't have anything else for the CIA to do?
When it comes to imprisoning, abusing, and torturing political dissidents? I present to you Guantanamo Bay and CIA Covert operations.
Sure, we don't do it to our own people. But that doesn't mean we don't do it.

Guantanamo Bay does not hold political dissidents. It holds terrorists and enemy combatants, and don't give me that "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" or some similar shit. These are real terrorists who target civilians and US military personnel.

If the sanction were still in place, there would be much more negative tone and coverage of Castro.
