Well, the main purpose of the Senate is to roleplay as legislators of a made up nation. In this iteration, we're Senators for the nation of Elizia. Right now we're voting on bills like we do most weekends. Other than voting and discussing legislation, many members also write their own bills and try to get it passed by collecting co-sponsors for it and then attempting to get it through the Senate.
There are two coalitions, theforward-thinkingLiberal Coalition and thebackwardsNational Coalition. The LC is made up of the Liberal Democrats and the Social Liberal Party (my party) while the NC is made up of the Socialist Equality Party, the Elizian National Congress, Elizia First, and the Elizian Communist Party. There is also the Progressive Movement, which is part of neither party.
We recently overthrew the NC government in a no confidence vote, but the LC was, unfortunately, unable to get its own nominee elected as President and a new NC government leads the country. At the same time, members of the RP roleplayed their own re-elections. While most of us won re-election, a couple roleplayed their character's defeat and created new characters.
Is there anything else you'd like to know?

Just as a quick not, the ENC are not a member party of the National Coalition, we're just in government with them.

PtH is in the National Coalition and I'm pretty sure that while the Progressive Movement isn't a member of the NC, I think they support the NC.

Hmm. Well, first, I'd recommend visiting the Bill Depository thread. It has a list of all the bills the Senate has already passed or failed to pass (although, the list is unfortunately not up-to-date). After that, the Coffee Shop is where you'll want to go next. That's basically the workshop thread where members write and advertise their bills, ask for constructive criticism, and seek the five co-sponsors required to post said bill in the Bill Repository thread. You can use the WIP bills already in the Coffee Shop thread as a sort of outline for whatever bills you want to write. You can also, if you decide to join a party, post your bill in the party's thread and ask for advice, feedback, and co-sponsors. Freyhill's formatting here is pretty exemplary.
After that, the Speaker will eventually put up a set of bills (usually four per week) at the beginning of the week in the Chamber thread. Each bill has a designated day in which we discuss it and the authors and co-sponsors defend their bill and answer questions members may have about it. Then, on Saturday, the Speaker will initiate a 48-hour period of voting on the bills for that week. For example, here's what we're voting on right now.
Of course, authoring legistation and voting on bills aren't the only things we do here. You can RP with us in the Daily Life in Elizia thread. There you can roleplay as your Senator, a journalist, or a random citizen. You can roleplay as almost anyone who isn't in an important political, legal, or law enforcement position. You can also create your own character(s), location(s), and organization(s) in the Yellow Pages thread if you so desire. So long as it's within reason, of course.

You have no idea what doxing even is. Jeck has hijacked the IRC, and this is your primary concern.

You propose a bill in the Coffee Shop, and once it has five sponsors it's put on the order paper.
