[Scrapped]The Truth Will Set You Free, or Will It?

Postby Drasnia » Sun Oct 23, 2016 9:02 pm

Name: The Truth Will Set You Free, or Will it?

Validity: must have television; medium Scientific Advancement or higher

Description: A new conspiracy theory which has been growing in popularity amongst @@DEMONYMADJECTIVES@@ states that the much of the nation’s government is comprised of extra-terrestial aliens hiding in the bodies of politicians. Some of these theorists even say that you are the head of this supposed group of secret aliens!

The Debate

[option]Leader of the Reptilian Conspiracy Theory, @@RANDOMMALENAME@@, begins broadcasting on a hacked television channel. “Wake up sheeple!” he exclaims as he adjusts his tin-foil hat. “The government is being corrupted by shape-shifting aliens!.Even my almost conclusive photo evidence proves it, and if that’s not enough to convince you, well then enjoy your ignorance! They start first with lowly bureaucrats before beginning to work up the ladder to the highest position in the land. @@LEADER@@, if you aren’t a scale-face yet, you must act now before all of our bodies are stolen by the aliens!
[effect]government officials must regularly undergo a series blood tests to confirm that they are indeed not aliens from another planet

[option]”This is absolutely embarrasing!” Yells your Minister of Domestic Security while giving you a full body cavity search. “Not only are these lunatics saying crazy things like we’re all aliens, but they’re doing it by illegally broadcasting on our airwaves. We need to crack down on these people by enforcing strict national broadcasting laws. Plus that’d shut up these so-called leaders of this conspiracy movement.”
[effect]using walkie-talkies near government buildings often results in being arrested

[option]The lights in your office go out. Suddenly a man that looks to be dressed in a black suit walks out from behind the curtains. “These conspiracy theorists aren’t wrong,” he says, “at least, not totally. I am here today to invite you to join our secret international organization. Our purpose is simple – to bring leaders from around the world together to solve problems all the while lining our pockets with cash. What say you @@LEADER@@? Are you in?”
[effect]shady-looking individuals are often seen visiting @@LEADER@@

This issue was a bit tricky to write as any alien conspiracy would likely involve @@LEADER@@ already, so I tried to phrase it so that it was believable that s/he might not be yet, and this isn't even mentioning trying to write an Illuminati option.

Comments and help would be greatly appreciated.

1. WhY do they have to do this illegally? There are many public access TV networks out there, and if not, they can print an article in a concipary theory newspaper, or on the internet
2. Effect for option 1, uh, yea, but wouldn't the conspiracy theorists believe that the doctors are lying about the results of the blood test? Or the politicians are lying about taking one?
3. Option 3, they're not wrong, but they're wrong

Some nations ban TV and censor newspapers. By explicitly stating that they're doing it illegally somehow (for example, hacking into military/government-only channels), it avoids any stupid validity problems as well as leads to option 2.
2. Effect for option 1, uh, yea, but wouldn't the conspiracy theorists believe that the doctors are lying about the results of the blood test? Or the politicians are lying about taking one?

A good point. Do you have suggestions on how to fix it?

To be honest, this issue seems to touch on mostly the same theme as #181, in that it deals with the question of whether wackadoodles should be able to broadcast their wackadoodlery as they please. Except for option three, which is kinda vague; what is this conspiracy? Why do I care? How might they be hilariously self-defeating?

After a lot of thought, I don't think I can make this unique enough while keeping it a national issue that @@LEADER@@ would be addressing. Consider this scrapped.
