A Council for the Advancement of Island Interests in Forest

On October 21, 2016, The Dominion of Monpiterre proposed the formation of a regional organisation of the small island states of the region of Forest. This union, known as the Organisation of Forestian Island Nations (OFIN), aims to:

  • Advance the interests of Islands on the World Stage, such as the threat of Sea-Level rise;
  • Promote cooperation between its member nations;
  • Establish free-trade areas between its member nations;
  • Co-ordinate economic relations among its member nations;
  • Co-ordinate political and international relations among its member nations;
  • Support its member nations economically and culturally, working to develop and improve them; and
  • Provide for the common defense of its member nations.

Currently, the OFIN has four member nations:

Proposal to the member states of the OFIN:

The Dominion of Monpiterre proposes that for governmental purposes of the Organisation, a Secretariat be created, with delegates from each member nation. This council would be headed by a Secretary-General, elected from the ranks of the delegates.

Where would this OFIN Secretariat meet? Would it be located in a fixed location, or rotate around different member nations? How would delegates be decided upon?

Sincerely,
Joseph de Saint-Germain
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dominion of Monpiterre

Agreed. We need to decide upon a common venue for meetings. Or at least agree upon some sort of rota system.

I think it would be better to organize the meetings in different cities of the member nations, like it is done at the G8 summits. Our beautiful coastal city Sereneville would be willing to host the first official meeting.

And I like the logo, too.

We assent to the proposal made by Frieden-und Freudenland and suggest that the first summit of the OFIN be held in Sereneville, Frieden-und Freudenland. Each member nation should send its delegates. At the summit we can also elect the Secretary-General.

When should this meeting be held? How many delegates should be sent from each nation?

Sincerely,

Personally I believe up to 5 delegates from each Forest Nation shall be sent to the venue in Sereneville. As for when the summit should take place, I have no idea, but in the near future for sure.

Tishanda would also happily host future summits in some of our most famous cities, such as Laharu and Maliau. I'm very excited to see what Sereneville has to offer! :)

The Dominion of Monpiterre shall also send five delegates to the Sereneville summit; they are:

  • François Sesel - Distinguished 3-time chancellor of Monpiterre
  • Aleianru Ladin - Coast Guard Pilot and Undersecretary for Coastal Waters
  • Suvit Thévenet - Former Mayor of Aminineka
  • Frédéric Girardot - Entrepreneur, founder of several agricultural businesses, and Rueto Area Representative
  • Véronique Aruiatane - Diplomat-in-Training and head of the East Kolaxa Pollution Council

These delegates shall additionally be Monpiterre's permanent delegation to the OFIN Secretariat, unless rules stipulating otherwise shall be made at the Summit. Monpiterre asks all other member nations to send five delegates to the Sereneville meeting, including one Head of Delegation; in Monpiterre's case, the head of delegation is Sir François Sesel.

Furthermore, Monpiterre motions that the Sereneville Summit of the OFIN be held in one month.

We are glad that you propose that the Sereneville Summit of the OFIN be held in one month. This is a happy coincidence! Sereneville will be celebrating the 1500th anniversary of its foundation on November 24, 2016. If we schedule the summit so that its last day coincides with the beginning of the anniversary ceremonies it would be awesome. The closing ceremony would blend into a different ceremony.

Please ignore the informality of this announcement. We are excited.

Are you an island nation? If so, we would welcome you to join us as a member of the Organisation of Forestian Island Nations, hosted here. We are currently planning our first meeting of the OFIN.

If you are not an island nation, head over here:

and discuss some other ideas! (I believe you've been mentioned as the possible leader of an alliance) :)

The Dominion of Monpiterre, dealing with damage from a recent typhoon, respectfully requests that the Sereneville Summit be held a month later, instead of in one month as previously planned.

Unless the other members object, we shall proceed under this plan.

Sincerely,
François Sesel
Head of the Monpiterrean Delegation to the OFIN

We would like to suggest some topics to be discussed at the first OFIN summit that will be held in Sereneville, Frieden-und Freudenland.

The pirate activity in Teufel Hunden Sea and Kolaxa Sea which poses a threat to international trade and scientific investigations
Problems that exclusively or particularly affect coastal towns and habitats, such as

      Rising sea levels
      Marine pollution
      Offshore oil drilling
Commercial fishing and fish farming, among others.

Seawater desalination plants, the importance of their use and maintenance for sustainable water consumption
Preparation for natural / anthropogenic disasters that threaten island nations, such as

Tectonic and volcanic earthquakes and ensuing tsunami risks, particularly in Southern Forest
      Drought, particularly in Southern Forest
Oversalination (salting) of coastal arable land due to rising sea levels

These are our suggestions for now. We strongly encourage other members to share their suggestions as well.

Oh, we are sorry about the typhoon. We stand in solidarity with the people of Monpiterre and will do anything we can to help you. Do you need any supplies? Please do not hesitate to ask for humanitarian aid.

Organizing the Sereneville Summit about one month earlier than originally planned will be inconvenient. But we are a resourceful people, so I am sure we will manage to get things done for this weekend and impress you with our hospitality.

We agree that those topics are necessary for discussion. We will draft a schedule for the convention including those topics.

We can discuss humanitarian aid for typhoon damage, also aid in general, at the Summit.

Very sorry to hear about the recent typhoon, us island nations that are close to the equator experience them way to frequently. Tishanda has had many fearsome typhoons in the past and understands what they are like. We are here to help in any way possible.

Attention: Organisation of Forestian Island Nations
Subject: Conference

While we applaud the effort to raise awareness for the unique challenges of Forestian island nations and are interested in the overall agenda, sadly with the general challenges of the office of Forest Keeper, as well as the added zombie preparation effort and our current WA endangered species trade legislative effort Ransium finds its diplomatic staff far over-extended as is. We will be kindly sending a assorted fruit basket including our prized Tiger Shark Mango (which is at peak ripeness this time of year) and will be keenly awaiting the results of the conference.

---The following is a transcript of an excerpt from an audio recording sent to OFIN---

(rusting of people; mic static; someone taps on mic)

"Yo, Hello, 1,2,3,testing. Dammit, tell those girls to quite down, ya hear!"
"C'mon Omar get in the hot tub with us!"
"Not now girls goddammit, I mean sorry, uhhhhhh"
"Here Omar"
"What is this? Oh"

(indiscriminate sounds; people laughing; sound of what might be someone inhaling very hard)

"Ok ok ok, uhhhh, this is Omar S, one of Mr. Fingers, you know, advisors or something like that, whatever..."
"Heya where is ole Fingers anyways?"
"Up in some VIP room doing a bunch of cok-----"

(auuughghhhh)

"You fools! Shut up! OK so I gotta make this quick cause we got like 30 minutes to make over to The Bunker before the dancers get off stage."

(sounds of people and maybe animals yelling in excitement; maybe gunshots)

"Get out of the way Omar, lemme do this, your girlfriend is getting naked over there anyways"
"Dammit!, Baby stop that!"
"Uhhhhmmmm, Ok, Ok, Whatup People of the Isles of Forest. Ya boy F. Knuckles on the mic now. Chief Ambassador of Body+Soul to, well, anyone. Mr Fingers heard about this OFIN a day or so ago but freaked cuz he thought it was some new designer drug hitting the streets, and ya know uhhh, all drugs have to under go vigorous government testing, heh.

(somewhere nearby a stereo is cranked up; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw6gtrxYbhA)

"Turn that #!@% [unknown slang term] down I'm trying to diplomate! OK, damn tho, this is my jam...ok ok"

(people hooting and hollering; man clearing his throat too close to microphone)

"Point is....and you got to forgive us over here in Body+Soul...while we don't care much for politiciking over here, we do have a keen, a real keen, interest in many of the interests of what has now become our home region, Forest. We are also an Island Nation. Which at times past may or may not have known someone that went to some possibly extreme measures to
redacted for offical concerns
But it was all for our best and near only friend the environment, which we take most seriously here in B+S. We have also seen some secondhand effects of the rest of the world not caring about such a friend and feel that it has become more pertinent to express ourselves more diplomatically in the world at large. We, however, give great commendation to the nations of Forest in their endeavors. Mr Fingers also thinks that participating in a coalition may stop us from
redacted for offical concerns
to other nations that, ya know, harm the environment, or I remember this one time we
redacted for offical concerns
heh, that #!@% was cold...uhhhmmm.......But we don't do that no more. Hold up, hold up..."

SHALOTTE TO SEND DELEGATE TO FRIEDEN-UND FREUDENLAND SUMMIT

THE GAELTYN has announced that Shalotte will be represented at a summit in Sereneville, Frieden-und Freudenland, this weekend, to discuss the Royal Isles' entry into the Organisation of Forestian Island Nations (OFIN).

OFIN is intended to be a loose conglomeration of island nations based in Forest, giving a stronger voice to some otherwise-small countries, and speaking up on their behalf around issues such as defence and oceanic pollution. It also controversially includes a free trade agreement, of which some Shalottes are wary.

"Shalotte has stood alone for millennia," Aefi of Grathtae, Tyrrn of Prg'da'nae, told The Islander. "We don't need or want foreigners flooding our fair isles with their plastic tat and fancy gizmos. Our culture is precious, and opening it up to those big corporations they have abroad is a recipe for disaster."

But the Mon'gaeltyn, Riagán of Damnoni, was more optimistic.

"Free trade is nothing this Gaeltyn has ever prohibited," Riagán said. "In fact, if Shalotte is admitted into [OFIN], little will change in this regard. Foreign corporates simply recognise that there is no money for them here, so our culture won't be affected.

"And the potential benefits to Shalotte, in giving us a stronger voice abroad, and allowing us to have some kind of influence in stopping the destruction of the environment perpetrated by foreigners, far outweigh any risks."

Regardless of any objections in the Gaeltyn, Her Faithful Grace, Alsa II, Domnaeni of Shalotte, is apparently the driving force behind the Royal Isles' participation in the proceedings, making it mandatory.

"[Alsa] is very interested in the benefits to Shalotte of a stronger voice in international affairs," Riagán said. "I am sending a Shalotte delegate on her instructions. I trust in her wisdom, and her compassion for Shalotte."

The delegate being sent to Frieden-und Freudenland is none other than Aefi of Grathtae. Despite her misgivings about the organisation, "it is important that we have somebody who will fight for Shalotte's best interests," Riagán said. "I can't think of anybody better suited to that role than Tyrrn Aefi."

The summit is set to take place this Áv Turuk [Saturday], and Aefi's attendance will represent the first time a Shalotte has left the isles in almost five years. Shalotte's only plane, the Gaeltyn's Douglas DC-6 based at Alauna airfield, is currently being prepared for the journey.

And, if Shalotte is admitted into OFIN, it will represent the country's first ever participation in an international organisation for it's entire history.
