Oh speaking of 'lack of humanity' our GM apparently was sexually assaulted and had to take a week off for counseling, how did her superiors respond? By replacing her as GM.

To be fair, the GM has to be there if other staff need direction or problems have to get resolved. They cannot stop for a week much less 1 day, because everything will grind to a halt. I don't think she should've been fired however, there really should've been a vice GM or someone who could temporarily take over until they got back.

Did you follow up with the old GM most of the time when stuff like this happens they shuffle GM around and the GM has to go somewhere else.

It's a shit job that pays shit wages and often has shit people in charge who rail on you if you don't put on a stupid fucking grin for shit customers complaining about their shit food. If Millennials are being smart enough to avoid eating or working at these places, then more power to them. I wish I'd had even a fraction of that sense of self-worth when I was a teenager in my brown polyester McDonald's uniform, coming home a nervous wreck every night because I'd been yelled at by horrible customers for their food taking too long (I had no control over that), and having them backed up by my boss, who also yelled at me to make them happy.

I applied to six different fast food joints and not one of them hired me, I had better luck in retail

Same here. Because of my age, they would only offer night jobs, and in a definitely not nice area. Never heard back from them, and that's probably for the best.

I'm not surprised, a lot of the minimum wage jobs here where I live go unfilled because people are becoming increasingly aware that they shouldn't be busting their ass and still end up not making end's meet, or just barely surviving. Most of the fast food jobs I see are done by older people.

The worst are the ones who think they're entitled to be treated a certain way (or that they're entitled to treat others like crap) just because they've accomplished the act of Not Dying for however many years. Some of it may also be less about childhood "be respectful or else" and more "I was treated like crap when I was X age, now it's MY turn!"

I'd say it's a combination of pay and hours. Fast food doesn't give the benefits, the hours, or the pay desired.

Retail in general is much better than the food industry. Some grocery stores, like Publix, will give you stock options after a year of working there.
