What's your capital city like?

Postby Huswyae » Wed Aug 17, 2016 6:49 am

Lacrott City has a population of 65 million in terms of appearance is basically what would happen if you merged Moscow and Singapore. The south of the city is very modern and commercial whilst the north of the city is very preserved, and all the highways and monorails going through North Lacrott City are underground.

Lacrott City's financial district of Haluky is one of the most important financial centres in the entire world. Haluky is also one of the most important places for politics too.

Lacrott City is served by a monorail that crosses both sides of the River Lacrott. It is considered the best monorail system in the world. Lacrott City is served by 3 large airports, the largest being Lakewood Lacrott Airport, which serves all the major international airlines and the biggest hub for HuswyaeFlag Airlines. Lacrott Westover Airport houses more budget airlines than any other airport, with the dominant airline being Huterricair. Lacrott Dennis Airport is not that mainstream and is very quiet.

Main attractions include the Libertas Attacks memorial, Tower Terminus, Haluky Park, Arcadia Shopping Centre (the world's largest shopping mall), Junction Way Train Station (the busiest train station in the world in terms of trains, the 5th busiest in terms of passengers), The Science Centre, Freedom Fountain, and North Lacrott City.

Our Capital, Alryne is basically like Cardiff in Wales because of its average population and similarities, but Alryne is smaller. The buildings are pretty much the same although more modern, the landscape is pretty much the same, so you can just say we're a twin city to Cardiff.

In the Capital there are 4 divisions:

Ølken: Major fishing area. Located to the east. Has a population of approximately 17,950. This is where the Port of Alryne is located, the main port of Bridgewood. Best known for its local fish which are caught in Whitecombe Bay. Has 5 primary schools. Also has 1 fire station and 1 health clinic.

Roselyn: Residential Area. Located to the north. Has a population of approximately 79,650. The majority of houses are terraced and made of limestone. There are also fairly new housing estate which features brick houses. Has 12 primary schools and 2 comprehensive schools. Also has 2 police stations, 2 fire stations, 1 health clinic and 1 hospital.

Ashbridge : Residential/Industrial Area. Located to the west. Has a population of approximately 38,250. This is where Alryne City International Airport is located which receives an average of 286,000 visitors each year. The airports runway measures 8450ft long. It has 2 Terminals and 3 Heliports. Has 4 primary schools and 1 comprehensive. Also has 3 police stations, 3 fire stations and 1 health clinic.

The City of Alryne: Tourist/Financial/Governmental Area. Located to the South. Has a population of approximately 37,150. Main tourist area due to several attractions such as the Royal Palace and the People's Square. Also where business and corporations are based. This is also where Parliment is located aswell as foreign embassies. Has 5 primary schools, 2 comprehensive, 2 collages and 1 University. Also has 3 police stations, 3 fire stations, 2 health clinics and 1 hospital, St Willis.

Altogether the population of Alryne is approximately 173,000

Similar to ancient Rome, but much more large and there are more intact monuments. It's like if you merged ancient Rome, medieval (pre-1453) Constantinople, and modern Moscow together.

Gandoor's capital, Gandoor City, is a rather small city, with an estimated population of around 82,000.

There is not much to the city itself; it has government offices, a few other organizations are headquartered (including the Gandoor Broadcasting Corporation, our public-broadcaster), some parks and museums, and an international airport. (Although technically speaking the airport is located about two kilometres outside of city limits, but it is officially Gandoor City International Airport)

In effect, Gandoor City is basically like a regular small city that you probably wouldn't go out of your way to visit, but it's our capital.

With a population of 247, Vrå is the second biggest town in Esparmuran. Having the only major airport in the country, Vrå is divided into three areas; east, west and the airport.

East Vrå hosts plenty of apartments and stores, and could be seen as the residential area. It has one elementary school, one high school and a community centre. For entertainment, it has the Toppen af Regionen Nightclub.

West Vrå, apart from a recreational centre, is entirely industrial. Vrå, like the majority of Esparmuran, is dominated by three main industries; the fishing, whale oil, and mining industries. Plenty of ships arrive at Vrå daily to transport goods and services to other parts of the country and beyond.

The Vrå International Airport is located just south-east of the town. Despite having a huge runway (officially 10,140 feet), the VIA sees very little activity. On average, only five planes land at VIA a month (the most this year being nine in June, and least being none in February).

New York City has changed in the past four centuries.
First of all, there are now three partially-maintained walls located in New Jersey, Long Island and upstate New York forming a partial ring of defensive perimeters around the city. These were built in the early 22nd century to keep out the Global Neorevolutionary Army's suicide bombers. They are equipped with automated defenses, most of which date to the late 22nd century, and have been partially torn down for subdivisions and road networks.
Second, and perhaps more immediately recognizable, is that out of any ten within forty miles of the city, the probability of finding one with just one story is a non-integer lower than one out of ten. Below is an image of a locale of the New York area.
Image
Third, the subway network has been extended out into the suburbs, complementing the surface rail network. It still has the most stations (5,381 operating as of 2552), but is Earth's longest metro network and the longest in the UCE by total route length, at 1,985 miles.
Fourth and more important, New York is no longer located in the United States proper. Instead, the United Colonies of Earth and the United States have, since 2182, operated a condominium covering the entire New York-Newark-Bridgeport CSA, including northeastern Pennsylvania. Its' terms are defined under the Capital Region Act. In this condominium, the UCE has created the New York Capital Region Government. This government is in most respects equal to a member state of the United Colonies of Earth in powers, respects, and rights. However, it may not field a military, and has no unified security force. Instead, metropolitan and county police forces inside the region have been united under the Capital Region Federation of Police. The region is divided into six council areas: Lehigh (in PA), Newark (in NJ excepting Mercer County), Yonkers (in NY excepting the city of New York), Trenton (Mercer County, New Jersey), Bridgeport (in CT), and Capital City (the city of New York), all of which are governed by councils which vote to apply state law from the states their jurisdictions were created from and may create their own laws. Their locations and powers cannot be altered by the Capital Region Government. Most powers associated with local government have been transferred to the towns of Connecticut or to the counties of the other three states, or to specific cities which have received approval for independence charters from the Capital Region Assembly, which makes them independent cities. These include most of the major pre-CRG city governments and county seats such as Newark, Yonkers, Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, New Brunswick, Trenton, Jersey City, and White Plains. County seats still exist, but the corporations that host them are mostly powerless.
Mercer County is a special case. It can vote to except itself from CRG laws, but not New Jersey law. It has fewer powers as a council area than the other council areas, and in most cases can be treated as a special region of New Jersey. This is because it contains Trenton, the state capital, and accomodation was made to allow that status to continue.
The Capital Region Assembly is the parliament of the CRG. It votes to approve post-2189 United States laws as its' own and can make statutes of its' own. However it generally operates solely under directives and resolutions of the UCE organs which apply to all member states, notionally including the Capital Region. Members of the Assembly are elected from the counties of all four states and New York City in multimember districts, the number of members being proportional to the population of each county, every four years. They elect the Chancellor of the Capital Region to carry out the laws of the Assembly, the United States, and the UCE.
Notionally, the CRG is not under jurisdiction of the Homeworld Federal Government, Earth's planetary administration. However, ICJ decisions found that the Homeworld Government's laws do apply to the Capital Region as well in the 2190s. Like all states in the Sol System, it lies under Unified Solar Administration authority. The Unified Administration has sectoral, subsectoral and system administration powers.
Historically, from 2083 to 2175, the UN controlled Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk, and Rockland counties in New York, along with NYC and the New Jersey counties of Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Hudson, Essex, Union, Middlesex and Monmouth, as the New York Capital Region. The name continues to be applied to the subsequent UCE-US condominium. From 2175 to 2189 the United States regained sovereignty over the area, and the condominium reflects that brief period.
Fifth, the population of the Capital Region is double what it was in the early 21st century, and hovers at 46.2 million.
Sixth, there are many monuments and historical military facilities. Most of them were built or renovated by the United Nations. The rest were built by the United States. Only one military facility, the New York Antispacecraft Coilgun Emplacement, was built by the UCE and is located on a landfill at Breezy Point Tip in Rockaway, Queens.
Seventh, the weather is cooler in the summer than 21st-century humans would expect for NYC due to success in reversing global warming since the late 21st century. On 19 August, 2552, the high temperature was 82 degrees. The climate classification is still humid subtropical and it does snow in parts of the Capital Region in winter.
Eighth, the highest skyscrapers in New York are over a mile in height. They are known as the Colossi of Brooklyn, and are located in Cobble Hill on Columbia Street, across the East River from Governors' Island. All subsequent skyscrapers have been limited to 1,100 meters in maximum height, excluding "architectural structures", which includes antennae. The Colossi have two 30-m antennae on their roofs, which stand at an elevation of 1,859 meters above sea level. In winter the buildings get very snowy on top and "vertical skiing" down their sloped pyramidal roofs is popular for people who like extreme sports.
The United Colonies of Earth exists:
to bring about the settlement of all planets not yet inhabited by a sapient species within this Galaxy and Universe by the Human Race, or all members of the species Homo sapiens;
to ensure the observation and protection of the rights of all human beings;
to defend humankind from invasion, catastrophe, fraud and violence;

Roadmap of Rien-Stadt, C.D.R.
(work in progress)

Rien-Stadt, C.D.R. is the capital city in the Sovereign Empire of Gristol-Serkonos. It is the second most populous city in the Sovereign Empire with a metropolitan area of 70 million inhabitants. Standing in the River Lautha and its location between the two countries of the Sovereign Empire, Rien-Stadt C.D.R. was historical meeting point between the two countries for several centuries. The historic core of the city, built around the 1st Arrondissement, is the historic City of Bernadotte, which still retains its medieval boundaries and a resident population of 18,000, making it the smallest city in the Sovereign Empire. In 1891, upon the unification of the Sovereign Empire, a portion of the two countries became the Capital District Region in which Rien-Stadt, C.D.R. was built around the Bernadotte core city. The city is governed by the Metropolitan Council of Rien-Stadt, C.D.R. and is currently led by Mayor Stephen Haywood.

Rien-Stadt is a global city in western Sondria, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence. It is the second financial centre in the country (after Marlenne, Serkonos), with two of the five largest banks headquartered in the city. Rien-Stadt is also a highly cosmopolitan city with a diverse range of peoples and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken within Metropolitan Area of Rien-Stadt.

The city is the seat of the Sovereign Empire's Rieshistagi, and the Palace of Two Thrones in which the country's Diarchy resides.

The capital world of the Dominion is the planet of Jisia. Once a heavily forested planet with few grassy plains, even fewer jungles, and only a couple of deserts in the north and west, Jisia, through tens of thousands of years of continuous development, has been transformed into a thriving ecumenopolis home to over 57 billion people and the perfect home for our wise and magnanimous Empresses. It is divided into thousands of semi-autonomous, yet obedient districts that govern the day-to-day lives of their inhabitants. One of the more magnificent landmarks one can see on Jisia are the Waterfall Palaces.

Leighton is the capital city of Arkiasis. It's the 5th largest city and has a metropolitan population of 1.5 million. 676,325 people live in the "Federal Capital District", the main administrative division and the official seat of government is located.

The city itself is not an important economic centre (that title belongs to Aspatria, our largest and most populous city). Most people in the city are employed in government and city is home to several large museums such as the Museum of Historical Art and the Natural History Museum. Other than that, it's not that special. The city is similar in appearance to Stockholm and Vienna.

We don’t have a capital city at the moment per say; legislation on this subject was forgone in favour of maintaining our archipelagic megalopolis.

However, the city where most of our governing and administration is done, and likely will be the future capital city of the FDVS when legislation comes up again, is Vice Santos City. It’s pretty much a landlocked Manhattan with palm trees.

New Ru is both our capital city and our largest and most populous city. It is a modern commercial and fashion center with towering skyscrapers and several distinct boroughs located on a large island in the middle of Ru. It is home to the Imperial Palace which was constructed during Ru's modernization period after the dissolution of the feudal nobility when the king decided to move the capital to a more centralized location. It also contains the famous ancient monument known as the Statue of Ru. This statue of the mythological Founder served as a lighthouse in ancient times, and thanks to modern renovations, remains a working lighthouse today.

Valence has a population of just over 1.2 million inhabitants and it is the third largest city in the country. It's not an economic centre save for the state owned companies which have headquarters here but it does have important cultural centres such as the National Gallery of Classical Art, the National Gallery of Modern Art, the National Museum as well as the National Opera House, which is home to the Valclusian Theatre Company and the Valencian Symphony Orchestra.

Cityscape wise, Valcluse has a mixture of new and old architecture. The "Old Town" which sits on the south bank of the Gatineau River was largely completed between during the 18th and 19th centuries and features a substantial amount of architecture from that era. The "New Town" on the north bank includes skyscrapers and other high rises as well as large areas of parklands and leafy suburbs. City planning since 1991 has embraced the "Jesselton model", which is an emphasis on environmentally friendly, sustainable and liveable development.

Allmah is a moderately sized (pop. of 93k) mountain city whose economy relies largely on the production of steel and the timber market. No skyscrapers in the downtown central area, but hundreds of tower blocks. Museums, universities and hospitals are abundant. Downtown buildings are painted either peach or sky blue. There's a flourishing art scene. Wealthier neighborhoods have their own houses.

Sabina (Capital of Taviana)

The capital and largest city in the Taviana S.S.R. is Sabina. The city was founded in the year 1725 by king Solibor, following the war with Prussian invaders in which he successfully defeated the invaders by taking advantage of the islands mountainous terrain despite being outnumbered 5 to 1. The city was named after his wife Sabina who he married in the same year. Legend has it that on the site where St. Volodymyr’s church now stands, a fort used to stand in which queen Sabina was held by the Prussians and rescued by king Solibor himself. The most prominent feature of the city is the statue of Vladimir Illich Lenin in the square of the Republic erected in 1945 after the communist take over. The square of the republic is also where the national bank of the Taviana S.S.R is located, as well as the national museum and library. The national museum was built in 1886 alongside the national university located beside it. The capital city also features the national gallery and a number of large shopping centers. Some of the more recent architectural achievements in the capital is the parliament building, based on the GDR parliament building in East Berlin and Hotel Marcomio, which is the tallest structure in the city. The capital also contains a 750 meter underground tunnel complete with a train station built in 1948 by the communist party.

Lendert-proper-with-Cadell-upon-Nort is a relatively compact capital city. It has an ancient walled centre with 18th and 19th century surrounds. More modern developments are also present dotted around, however planning regulations make suburban sprawl near non-existant. It is somewhat smoky though, especially in the winter, due to the burning of wood or coal, however most buildings are only allowed to burn either anthracite or special wood approved for burning, to reduce smoke and pollution.

The walled centre is in reality two cities merged together. The streets there are mostly rather narrow and cobbled, without much street furnitre or trees. However, the city boasts two parks in its northern end, as well as St Peter's Cathedral, the main Royal Palaces and Parliament. The city lies in a meander of the River Wert, which is known as the River Nort between two bridges. The 18th and 19th century expansion of the city created wider streets in affluent areas, however narrow streets still persist in less affluent areas.

Transport in the city is good, with there being a dense underground railway network as well as standard railway. Tramlines are also spread throughout the city, even in the mediæval centre, as are trolleybuses and buses. Private transport is mostly horse-drawn, however to reduce congestion, there is a tax paid for non-essential private transport into the city. There is good lighting throughout the city, provided by gas lamps. There are also numerous police stations across the city, as well as police boxes and posts for telephoning the police. Postal service is good as well, with post boxes dotted across the city every few streets or so.

Well it's a huge water park where everyone goes to have a good time, get pizza, and just be happy. Oh and law stuff goes on there too...
We have attractions and exhibits all over, and it's a great place to marvel and look at. Even people not in our nation/region come here to eat some of our unique food and ride our attractions.
We're currently gonna be building a waterslide allowing access to other cities...... if we build other cities...

History

After the wars of unity, the capital bounced around from newly found republic to newly found republic. Most continuing operations of executive government was handled by Protector of the Republic Corey Hamilton via his military encampments. Eventually, the capital bounced into the refurbished Las Vegas (The City that Survived the War). A convention was held by all founded republics to organize themselves into a federation. POR Corey Hamilton was honored when he pointed out the strategic town of Niles, Michigan on the border of Indiana and close to Chicago. Hamilton was then founded a top the remains.

Right in the center, exists the magnificent capitol building. Known as the Federation's Palace, 60,000 square feet and three stories of neoclassical architecture holds convention halls for the Executive Ministry of a Hundred, the several thousand member National Convention, and the Senate. Offices are both within the palace halls and the surrounding blocks. It's considered both a national and world wonder.

The city is built with a modern road system with many government only roads for efficiency purposes. Across the city, modern government building stand as a way to mark the power of bureaucracy. Enlarged, with a subway and monorail system, Hamilton is the city the world looks too.

The financial industry has found it's way into the town becoming the center of the market. Ever bank and stock exchange is along each turning avenue. Corporations are based and built from the blocks that make up Hamilton.

For leisure, parks and convention centers dot the remaining landscape. Surrounding those, are 16 neighborhoods of varying class levels. The city works in turn with St. Joseph, South Bend, Gary, and Chicago to create the Lake Michigan Metropolitan Area.

Tallam City is a massive sprawl of culture. In the south lie the suburbs, a quaint 'Little America'. Further in lie the French District, with New Orleans style buildings, The Spanish District, once booming but turned into a red light district after the fincancial crisis and the Ottoman District, where old meets new as ancient mosques meet with glistening high-rises in Central Tallam City, where Africa's tallest building, Bonnet Tower, rises above the rest.
