So finally got a bit of time to play with some ideas for my turn of the century navy rifle:

The Pattern 1897 Navy Rifle
Image
chambered in .25 Navy (6.25x57mm) with a 10round detachable Lee based magazine.

its straight pull, as the bolt carrier is pulled back it hits the rear of the tilting peice which then tilts and lifts the locking lugs on each side of the bolt out of the receiver allowing the bolt to be retracted.
Crappy diagram to illustrate:

Well!

You're just in luck!

I happen to have written this article about Verba!

Yay! Thanks!

Well, Verba will be used in my army, replacing the Iglas.

It's a liqud nitrogen bulb, I do believe.

You can see a similar one on the Igla:

Image

Squeezing it allows the liquid nitrogen to cool the missile's sensor to the point where it can spot the engine of enemy aircraft.

Similar bulbs come with Stinger, i believe.

It's not actually a grip. It's the battery and coolant unit.

I think he means that it's not just a grip.
As Allanea said, it's meant to be gently massaged to ensure killing of aircraft.

No, xe said it's "not actually a grip"

if xe meant that it was something in addition to a grip, then xe would have said "in addition to being a grip, it's also the battery with the coolant."

Well, it's technically not a grip.
It so happens to also be a very convenient handhold.

I know it's probably been asked before, but could anyone recommend me some good books to read oriented on modern infantry tactics and the like?

Didn't Allanea translate an entire infantry manual?
Or did he back it on kickstarter or something?

I translated 3, two have been published and the third one is stuck with my publisher for some reason but they're all WW2 things.

Destroy the Enemy in Hand-to-Hand Combat and The Soldier and Squad in Night Combat are available in both paperback and Kindle.

I have a big library. If you need specifics on any tactics you're particularly interested in let me know.
These are my personal favorites in English or translated to English, bolded indicates best.

Sun Tzus The Art of War (obligatory)
Erwin Rommels Infantry Attacks
Christopher E. Larson's Light Infantry tactics for Small Teams
Carl von Clausewitzs "On War" (Vom Kreig)
Clint Willis Boots on the Ground: Stories of American Soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan
Audie Murphy's To Hell and Back
Lester W. Graus et al. The Bear Went Over the Mountian: Soviet Combat Tactics in Afghanistan: pair this with The Other Side of the Mountian: Mujahedeen Tactics in the Soviet Afghan War if interested.
The various army FMs
Sean Naylor's "Not a Good Day to Die"
David Galulas Counter Insurgency Warfare: Theory and Practice
Anthony Saunders Reinventing Warfare 1914-18: Novel Munitions and Tactics of Trench Warfare
The US Armys: Infantry in Battle From Somalia To the Global War on Terror

If you're particularly interested in a weapon or an era, it may be worth while picking up a book on said weapon or a national militaries forces during said period, many of them inclide samples of tactical doctrine.

I think I have Bear That Went Over the Mountain and its counterpart in PDF form somewhere and I've never read either.
