No, you can't. But you could modify the system. There are several solutions.
In many European countries companies and individuals can't donate big money to a party or candidate. Instead they receive a limited sum from the government.
When money is less an issue, more people could jump into the debate. And what's more, these candidates are not tied to the wishes and desires of the donating companies.
Another solution could be randomly pick a president. Of course these people should have some minimal qualifications: being an adult, having no criminal record, attended at least high school, ... A bit how members of a jury are selected in a courtroom case.
And the picked one should have the right to refuse the offer.
There are other solutions as well to break the eternal oligopoly and bring more democracy into your country.

I don't have the authority to do any of that, and the people who are in positions of authority are too busy bickering about abortion and whatever.

You don’t have the authority, but you still have the power to change things. But you need to unite.
Of course you give another brainless vote to Hillary or Trump and go for the status quo. Whoever you elect, nothing will change much.

No, we are not back. Present times, you can unite and influence people pretty fast and easy. We have the internet.
Currently, individuals with a lack of money make it possible that millions of people are visiting their websites.

OK, prove it. Unite the American people to make one of your suggestions happen. Your choice which one. If all you need is the internet, then you should have no trouble.

They are basically the same. Only the package is a bit different.
Do you consider Hillary or Trump as strong candidates?

That must be a cultural difference I think, rather than a legal structure difference.
In the US, substantially defunding party campaigns would simply cede the field of "debate" to whoever can pay for Political Action Committees. And you can't ban that unless you're going to take a big shit on the First Amendment.
Another solution could be randomly pick a president. Of course these people should have some minimal qualifications: being an adult, having no criminal record, attended at least high school, ... A bit how members of a jury are selected in a courtroom case.

Good luck with the extensive amendments to the constitution that would require.
I think it's a harebrained alternative and horribly undemocratic, but I wish you luck anyway. Because I am that confident it would never happen! There are other solutions as well to break the eternal oligopoly and bring more democracy into your country.
The US is democratic, it's just not very representational.
After all, I advocate a change to the system too. But I always work within the limits of the constitution as it is now because changes to it which would disadvantage either of the two big partys are hugely unlikely to succeed.
Not to bang on too long about it, but only the US House can be practically reformed. The Senate and the Presidency are stuck the way they are, other than possibly the minor reform of first-past-the-post popular vote for President instead of electoral college. While I support that too, it's really a lot of bother for not much reform.

"both weak" does not equal "the same".
You are either being intellectually lazy, or deliberately disingenuous.
And "the packaging" is as different as night and day. Clinton actually knows how to look, sound, and act like a fucking professional instead of a mob-raising bigoted lunatic/thug.
As to substance...
Clinton is status quo with incremental shifts Left or perhaps Right depending on the issue, for the most part.
Trump is a would-be fascist, bigoted despot.

Clinton scores surprisingly well on 'truth' meters. Trump doesn't. It constantly surprises me that people pretend Clinton is the more deceptive one running.
Voting for Stein might not be a bad protest vote. Voting for Johnson would be worse than voting for any of the others EXCEPT Trump.
The USA has had far worse candidates than Clinton. Reagan, for example. And he won by a landslide. Apparently, dumpster fires are what America likes.

I’m not sure if Hillary is aware she’s lying or not. If she’s aware, she’s a pathological liar. If she doesn’t know she’s lying then she’s a pseudologic fantasist.
