Odd Food Combinations You Enjoy

Postby Yumyumsuppertime » Wed Aug 10, 2016 5:40 pm

I eat my macaroni and cheese with a squirt or two of ketchup. Not the homemade stuff, obviously, but the kind that you get out of a box. My wife considers this an abomination. I say that the combined sweetness and tartness of the ketchup provides a pleasant counterpoint to the creaminess of the cheese, and the earthiness of the macaroni, like tomato soup does for a grilled cheese sandwich. She looks at me with a mixture of horror and pity. Fortunately, as I found in Strange Habits thread, I am not alone in my bizarre tastes.

Thermodolia wrote:I always eat mac & cheese with ketchup.

So: What food combinations that others find odd, eccentric, bizarre, or monstrous do you enjoy? Dip your ham sandwich in melted ice cream? Can't have a burger without chocolate chips on top? Do you evangelize about the pure pleasures of potato chips/crisps dipped in peanut butter?

Dish.

While that sounds awful, I would absolutely love to try it and be proven wrong.

Dunno if it's strange, but I put hot sauce on damn near everything - including eggs, burgers, and anything vaguely Mexican.

My mother did that. I use Sriracha on most stuff, but switch to Tapatio for specific Mexican dishes.

I'd say it's an acquired taste. Just a warning.

Sriracha is nice, but there's a local guy who is from Mexico that makes a recipe he learned from his mother which is amazing.

Barring that, chipotle is my sauce of choice, but I'm not opposed to things like Louisiana hot sauce.

Anyone who says "Tabasco" gets a fork in the eye.

Tabasco is made from the urine of dogs fed on a diet of moldy chili peppers.

It's not TOO out there, but I enjoy the occasional peanut butter and honey sandwich. As a kid, I used to dip them in a glass of milk too, but I don't do that anymore.

Fry up breakfast sausage, bacon, and chorizo. Grind up bacon. Sautée some peppers and onions. Add to pot. Add finely-chopped garlic. Throw in green beans, carrots, peas, black beans, pineapple, and blueberries. Cover in water. Bring to boil. Add rice. Simmer until rice is cooked. Delicious. :3

You should throw some banana slices in there some time, bonus points if it's on toast.

I tried a peanut butter and banana sandwich, and I ended up dislocating my hip, and wanting blue suede shoes and a pink Cadillac.

I use to put honey mustard on everything. Everything. Chicken, steak, veggies, tofu, eggs, etc. Tried it with yogurt once. Didn't take.

Hmm...

Pickles on pizza.

Ketchup and cheese on... a lot of things, though I don't know how odd that is.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.
