I don't know for sure but using the Italians as a metric I would say between 15-20 or so men give or take. As of now my Foot Infantry Sections are 12 men total which based off the data I've seen and the responses from others seems to be OK. Mind you I'm counting NCOS attached to the unit of course.

Basically any rifle for for a mans

Modern rifles work fine. I'd say that due to biological differences rounds that approach the maximum comfort level for shooting, like .30-06, 7.92x57mm and 8mm lebel are probably less suitable in the long term, but basically any other round would be fine. Too, most rifles would be of acceptable soze, since rifles are always designed with smaller statures in mind.

The Kievan People wrote:What are the pros/cons of gas operated gatling guns, relative to the electric kind?

Ooo that's a good one.

A gas driven rotary gun has little to no spoolup time for firing. It fires, and the more it fires the faster it goes. This has the advantage of being instant to fire, but not instant to reach its full fire rate. It can theoretically place more rounds in an area faster than an electric system, but has a shorter service life and is more violent.

It needs no electric system and therefore can be lighter as a whole unit, but the gun itself is heavier.

It's more mechanically complex than an electric gun as it needs a system in place to drive it, unlike an electric system which relies on a complex outer system.

Indexing both systems is a bitch but electric systems have a lower rate of failure in terms of indexing derived jams. In addition, you can clear a jam easier on an electric system.

Overall an electric system is advantagious in a system that sees lots of long term use with a really constant power supply while gas systems are something that can be worked on, and may need Auxillary power or no power.

Say your fighting in the WW2 era in a tropical rain forest, what Weapons doctrine would be more advantageous: German style MG focus or Anglo/Soviet style Rifle focus?

There was no united Anglo focus and the difference between a Soviet and comparable contemporary unit was pretty vast
There was no "rifle" focus per se as the Machinegun was the heart of every Infantry unit basically

But the USMCs formation was great because it had 3 BARs and 9 M1s
And a Thompson.

God is dead

and fuck the marines, they and the coast guard don't deserve to be branch of their own

I was referencing this conversation:
Dostanuot Loj wrote:
Arthurista wrote:
Another major factor was of course basic infantry fighting doctrine. The German Army centred their squads around the GPMG. The functions of the riflemen were to be the gunner's ammo bearers, flank security and meat shield. Near the end roughly half the troops had an automatic weapon of some sort. This was lethal in defence.

The allies were the other way round - small units were rifle-centric and the DP/Bren/BAR was used to support them, so they were at a disadvantage when it came to dismounted close combat.

Of course, in the end, arty trumps everything. The Chassepot couldn't beat the Krupp and the MG42 was more than offset by 25-pounders and M101.

This is a gross oversimplification that has no basis in reality.

The German squad revolved around the GPMG as a base of fire to maneuver from. Part of the squad carried ammo for this gun specifically (But more ammo is always good so everyone can bring some too!), but half of the squad's rifles were actually meant to attack a position that was being suppressed by that very GPMG.

And they did this with grenades and bayonets.

The Germans determined the bayonet was not as useful as an automatic weapon, and started bringing those into the mix. Then it became attacking with MP44s and grenades.

Saying they were defensive in nature, and focused entirely on the GPMG ignores the fact that the Germans simply perfected late-WW1 offensive tactics. The goal was pin with the GPMG, assault with the grenade.

And they used lots of grenades.

Horizontally Mounted Bayonets are best bayonets. Makes it easier to send the blade between the enemy's ribs. Vertically mounted are a relic of a bygone era from which bayonets were used against horses/cavalry units.

Hobbit Land is revolutionizing the way wars are fought, especially with their tactical prowess. Their new rifles have horizontal bayonet mounts. Perfect for a blade to slip through one's ribs.

Bayoneting is fun~

*ahem*

Diverging from my last question about standard service rifles about my Armed Forces, there's something I want to talk about. Basically, it's about cartridges, the 5.8×42mm DBP87 - PRC's military cartridges.

Does anyone have thoughts? Is it as good as they claimed?
