Gotham: The Coming Storm

Gotham, simply the name itself brings to mind two words Batman and Crime. In recent years Gotham had started to become better, more peaceful. Needless to say it was a far cry from the city that Batman first appeared in to defend from the seedy underbelly. The Penguin seemingly gave up his life of crime and now runs the Iceberg Lounge, one of Gothams high end clubs, he also has been dabbling in local politics. Several of Batmans other villains have left for their own reasons, though some still stayed in Gotham. People have been moving to the city, and its economy has picked up a bit, though there is still a wide disparity between the citizens. Gotham was finally becoming a good place, though not everyone thought or thinks so.

The Great Detective himself couldn’t shake the feeling that something was coming. Almost everyone else from the most recent Robin to Nightwing, thought that Batman was simply yearning for the days when he was needed, in the city. They all urged him to finally retire or atleast take a break, and he of course refused. This in turned caused a bit of a schism and many of his heroic allies left Gotham to help where they were truly needed. For a while Batman even thought they were right, then something happened and he sent a message urging them to come back to Gotham. By the time they arrived back Batman had vanished without a trace, and Wayne Manor and the Batcave were empty. Not even the Late Alfreds grandchildren knew where he had gone, just that Bruce had left one day and while there had been reported sightings of Batman they then disappeared entirely.

It was almost as if the underbelly of Gotham had been waiting for this day, there was a massive breakout at Blackgate prison and Arkhum asylum both, this marked the turning point of Gotham’s recent change. Arkhum is now run and secured by a private mercenary group with rumored ties to a company outside of Gotham. A new casino was finished and reportedly it is run by a Villain known only as the Gambler, or the Cajun, who until then had been running high-stakes games out of the Lounge. Additionally a new gym and fight club has opened up in downtown Gotham and the Gotham Botanical gardens has reopened. Most notably of all however the Grandson of legendary crime boss Carmine Falcone has come to Gotham to whet his teeth against the city that destroyed his grandfather. He is reportedly responsible for the rumors of all the gangs not behind or connected to any of the major players in Gotham banding together.

Robin moved back to Gotham permanently to try to fill the void temporarily, but there were others that decided to do the same. The Red Hood was now no longer one person, jason Todd, it was now a series of people who assumed his mantle and chose to continue fighting in Gotham, they were little more than righteous assassins. They violently dealt with the criminals they encountered, using guns and other means at their disposal. It was in their profile in the Batcave that the current Robin accidentally activaed Batmans contingency should he go missing. A Signal went out to nearly all Heroes that Batman knew of or about that were in his database calling them to Gotham for help. Robin was somewhat glad to have the assistance, however unknown to him The various criminal powers had been doing the same for some time. Let us hope that Gotham, with the help of the heroes can weather the Coming Storm.

Hello and welcome to the OOC Thread for Gotham: the Coming Storm, As you might guess by the name, this is a superhero rp set in the DC universe, and Gotham city in particular. While this is mostly an original Idea, it was inspired by an excellent RP by Personal Freedom, called the New Gotham, this is only loosely similar but hopefully conveys its spirit well. You can be a Hero or villain, Original character or DC. You can have connections to existing DC heroes or villains, or create and entirely original one. If you do play a DC character, try to play them well, If I or my co-op’s deem you unworthy you may be booted from the character. Places Of Note

Iceberg Lounge: a [url]high end club[/url] owned and operated by Oswald Cobblepot, While it mostly has a high-end clientele, that is merely the tip of the Iceberg. Below the surface in the Lower levels, less scrupulous things take place. High, high stakes gambling rings, and fighting pits, though the latter is only on occasion. For the most part though it is still an upscale club, and the criminal activity is kept separate and in a highly secured area from the actual club.

Gotham Hotel and Casino: Located just outside the Diamond district and has recently opened. It does have branches in the less reputable parts of gotham however, to give the hopeless hope. It is run by the Gambler, though no one has ever seen him in person, his face is always shrouded even if you should rarely meet him.

Bruisers Gym and Boxing Supply: a New gym that opened up recently in a less prestigious part of gotham, but gets much attention for its skilled fighters. It is run by former scottish boxing champion Bruce Donovan. Beneath the surface however it is the main HQ of Bruiser, who is actually Bane’s Prodigy, while his forces are small they are highly skilled.

Gotham Botanical Gardens: Currently the only operating Botanical Garden in Gotham after the last one was burned down after a freek accident involving poisonous spore emitting plants, that had accidentally been crossbred.
Eden Enterprises: A new company that has moved a Branch to Gotham. The site is currently unfinished, but is mostly done, the sub basements are finished, the rest of the building has yet to be furbished.

GCPD HQ : GCPD HQ is still the same as ever, except for a few additions like an improved garages and parking lot and an expansion for more police officers ever since the new mayor decided to spent money more on the law enforcement of the city after the disappearance of Batman, feared that repercussions will soon come if he doesn't prepared for the worst.

Arkham Asylum : After another period of breaking out, Gotham mayor hired Strokes Paramilitary, led by Deathstroke who has been semi-retired from the business of assassination and mercenary, who turned the asylum into a privatized prison with maximum security and with full cooperation with GCPD. However, there are rumors claimed that the prisoners were used as human experiments for Lexcorp, but no evidence surfaced so far.

Wayne Enterprises: Since the sudden disappearance of Bruce Wayne, Lucius Fox has crrently taken control of Wayne Enterprises. While it has been doing as well as ever, recently rumors have been cropping up. Mr. Fox hasn't been looking well lately, not exactly unexpected of someone of his experience. As Fox's visage gets more sickly more rumors of a possible take over have been surfacing.

Falcone Penthouse: Located in the most crime laden district of Gotham, it was once the center of power for the Falcone family. Recently it has been refurbished and is turning into what is was so long ago.

Otisburg: The district in the North of Gotham, holds many smaller enterprises local to gotham as well as a few outside branches.

Burnley: The district in the center of Gotham has a Brdige connecting it to Arkham Island and it runs through Otisburg briefly. Contains Gotham university and general hospital. Also houses Bruisers Gym

East End: The part of gotham most ripe with crime and corruption.

Old Gotham: One of the Oldest parts of the city, contains the City hall and main HQ for the GCPD.

Diamond district: the wealthiest district of Gotham contains the main businesses and some of gothams elite.

Robinson Park: the main recreational park of the city.

Blackgate Isle: The location for Blackgate penitentiary located opposite Arkham Asylum.

Bristol County: One of the most outlying districts of Gotham, only contains WAyne Manor as well as several similar places that have been abandoned for decades.

Major Players

The Penguin: Runs the Iceberg lounge, and has been dabbling in politics recently.

Deathstroke/Slade Wilson: highly skilled mercanary in charge of Arkham asylum

Bruiser/Bruce Donovan: Owner of Bruisers gym and former Scottish boxing and MMA champion, Secretly the Prodigy of Bane, sells and produces Venom out of his gym, as well as other similar drugs.

The Gambler: Mysterious owner of the Gotham Hotel and casino occasionally runs high stakes games out of the Lounge. If you try to cheat or Cross him, things won't end well for you.

Giovanni Falcone: Grandson of Legendary Crime Boss Carmine Falcone, he came back to Gotham recently, and has openly started charities and the like aimed towards refurbishing and helping the inhabitants of the East End. Rumor have it that most unassociated gangs are under his command, secretly.

Solomon Grundy A massive hulking zombie elemental, inhabits parts of the old Gotham subways and sewers. is rarely seen in public, or private, though has gotten into clashes with Buisers crew and Falcones men, on occassion.

Personality: Despite being incredibly conceited, and rude to a point (especially to those that he's unfamiliar with), he is an easy-going young man who could make friends quite easily if it weren't for the former two qualities. In private with trusted and well known individuals he is open, almost charming, and confides many things in his closest companions.
Race: Human
Backstory: Timothy Drelic was born to a pair of Slovenian immigrants in the United Kingdom, settling in Bristol. His father had always despised the child, owing to the fact that he was not his own son. Tim's father, before he and his mother left for the United Kingdom, had been something of a distant, cold man in the marriage to his mother. He would often seclude himself from his wife, speak briefly with her if it all, and not give her the attention that she wanted to get from someone she would spend the rest of her life with. The beautiful woman had many men swooning over her flowing red hair and deep emerald eyes, and eventually she grew tired of waiting for her husband to appreciate her in the way he had when they had initially began their relationship. It is true that she was unfaithful numerous times.

As a result, Timothy is unsure exactly who his father is. All he knows is that his mother's husband always hated him, and he suffered more than a few beatings in his childhood. As a result he was quiet and withdrawn from other children, typically preferring to be alone. He also witnessed his mother being beaten numerous times, as the animosity between his parents grew he became more and more angry towards his father. He spent less and less time at home, away from his parents and with the few friends that he had, one or two different boys from his school. He spent enough time around them that as a younger boy he picked up more of an English manner of speaking than anything his parents brought from the home country. That, and when he did let his native accent show itself he was often teased, so he discarded it completely through determination not to be mocked.

Tim's father worked for a company which dealt in producing pesticides and finding new ways to create healthier crops, his employer essentially being under contract from the British government to test any ways that this could be achieved, ethical or no. Timothy's father just happened to stumble into the manager's office at the wrong time to find on his desk an open file regarding 'Project Eden,' an incredible scheme that somehow sought to create what was in essence a walking, food producing, famine ending supermen that could by infusing the genes responsible for creation of photosynthetic sites and chemical production to carry out the process into human DNA create fruits and crops from their own bodies and further influence the growth of a constant food supply for countries living in poverty. His father was caught in his snooping, though rather than a horrible situation, he saw an opportunity. He offered in exchange for not revealing the horrible nature of these experiment, a test subject -- his own son.

Tim spent several months of his eleven year old life in an unknown location, far from any familiar faces, in either a small holding cell where he fed on bread and crackers with water, or under anesthesia being experiment on. His fear for his life grew, and anger towards those that held him captive, towards his father, towards everyone. The experiment was only successful to a degree -- Tim could not grow edible food or stop world hunger with the insane splicing of DNA that occurred. He could, however, influence the growth of plants. He could produce deadly spores and toxic mists into the air. He could regenerate wounds to some degree, given sunlight.

The frightened boy managed to escape that laboratory in a state of panic on the operating table when he began kicking and screaming, feeling the tendrils of vines seemingly erupting from his skin and watching as flowers sprouted from them, releasing thick spore clouds that suffocated the scientists within. On his way out he didn't look up, he only felt himself gliding along the floor, using these long tendrils as a quicker means of escape than his legs.

He found himself emerging into a farmer's field in bright moonlight. Timothy did find refuge in a nearby small town with a kind family. In his sleep however, he was plagued by the terrors of his months of life in either a tiny, dark cell, or under the influence of anesthetic drugs, not knowing what was being done to his body. The nightmares he had produced real effects in the world. The tendrils that he'd somehow managed to hide after hours of their presence reemerged, writhing around, putting holes in the wall, growing to incredible lengths all the way across the room to the bed that the family's young twin daughters shared.

Under the influence of his nightmares, Timothy killed those two young girls, strangling them with the long vines.

His mind was shattered for some time after this, and he took refuge anywhere that he could that was around few people and had plenty of sun. He often walked the countryside. He continued to deal with the guilt of two young girls' blood on his hands, the daughters of a loving couple. Eventually his grief turned to resolve when the plight of his mother crept back into his mind. Who had allowed him to be taken from his bed? It was certainly the father who always hated him.

From that point forward, he took on the persona of Tendril, doing what he could to help people wherever he happened to roam, but staying far from the public eye and never finding himself capable of killing again, if he wanted to in all his anger. The blood of two little girls saw to that. Now, he is only responding to the signal from Gotham, a city in need.
Powers/Weapons/Tech: Capable of influencing the growth of plants and fungi, even generating them from his own body rapidly and using some (like vines) as extra limbs. Able to regenerate wounds to a certain extent (not full limbs) in direct sunlight. Can produce clouds of spores or toxic gases to defend himself. Able to influence others if he should chose by the emission of hallucinogens into the air to a degree.
Weaknesses: His powers are considerably weaker in darkness, especially when exposed to prolonged periods of darkness. Of course, an aversion to fire.
Skills: Is an excellent gardener, although he doesn't much care for pollen and the great outdoors. Has taken training for years in the Chinese martial art Wing Chun. A persistent and relentless pursuer of flirtation, when he is not either being rude or teasing.

Backstory: Born and raised by Single Father who was the heir of a multi billion dollar inheritance. Aaron never knew his mother because she left when he was a few months old. He was sent to boarding school at the age of 9. At the age of 11 they kick him out and he moved back to Gotham with his father. He loved to sneak out and walk around Gotham which made him see how the city truly works, It show him at a young age that Gotham was sinister and deadly... At least if you didn't play your cards right.

When he became 15 he went to the East End to try and find something cool. This was when he was robbed, His father found out and hired a Mixed Martial Artist to train him which he did. At the age of 17 he spotted the guy who robbed him in the East End during a brawling event, Which Aaron joined and took a beating but he never stopped getting back up. After 10 Minutes of Him getting beat to near death. He finally beat the man who robbed him but not in a good way. Aaron beat him to near death and left him in a Coma which lasted for a few weeks. After that Aaron was shot and killed during a drive by while he was on his way to a friends house.

Aaron awoke and saw that he was shot in the head and body at least 8 times. This was the first ability he found out he had. He then tried to see if he could jump off a building and he did but instead of hitting the floor he fly which surprised him. At the age of 18 he graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and went to college and got 4.0 there aswell. His father died when he was 20 Leaving him with billions and a few building mainly his apartment building which houses his Lair. He has a degree in engineering and tech. He started to work at Wayne Tech when he was 22 and has been for the last two years.

Villain APP:
Name/Alias: Solomon Grundy, formerly Cyrus Gold.
Age: unknown, atleast 130
Gender: Male?
Appearance:

Personality: Kind, Helpful, greedy on occassion, pacifistic.
Affiliation: The Underground
Race: Human once, now he is different, an undying force of nature would be the closest thing to what he is.
Backstory: Grundy is an anomaly, to say the least. When he was alive he was a ruthless and greedy gangster, that would make most of the criminals in Gotham fearful. He was also rather ambitious and that is what got him killed, and dumped in a swamp. From that swamp arose Solomon Grundy, a rather unique being, even in this world of Aliens and monsters. It is believed magic had some part in making him what he is, He is an unstable being, and a nearly unkillable one at that.

It is hard enough to kill Grundy as he regenerates and can absorb plants to heal, but when he resurrects from death, which happens on a monday, nearly always, he is not the same as he was before. He came to Gotham dying, after fighting with the Justice league and superman, he beat them, but at a cost. IT was as he lay dying in Gothams sewers taht somethign changed. He resurected, but this time he was rather different. He was much smarter than norma, even capable of strategy. He also had gained powers he hadnt had before, and most of all, he possessed the memories of every single one of his ressurections, which has never happened before. Now he stays in the udnerground, as a penance for his sins.

empathy: he can sense emotions of beings of a more animal nature as well as part plant beings.
Weaknesses: While certainly cabaple of being powerful, his power is fickle, sometimes when he resurrects he is mindless, others a weakling that normal humans can beat, others he is smarter than the Riddler or stronger than superman. Fire can hurt him easier than most, but cn be ineffective if of magical origins or if he is in the sun, as he heals faster or almost as fast as it can damage him.

Possibly, i was intending to play him myself, mostly he would be a villain, or villainous, but does good things if his powers dictate to him to do so. I might give you some leeway with him.

I know Constantine, though am not sure he would really fit in Gotham in the Long run, perhaps you could bring him in later for a little bit and have him be hunting something.

you could create a villain or hero with ties to an existing one, or something if that would work.
