No, once the investigation/trial is over you can get your stuff back if you're found not guilty.

Yes, and I have no problem with that. Zimmerman was found not guilty, has no parole conditions of not owning a firearm, and legally owns the gun.
I wouldn't even mind if he sold it, privately (hopefully subject to background check, though Florida law doesn't require that for private sales). I wouldn't even mind if he sold it for above market value.
Publicly auctioning it, though. That's deliberately using his celebrity (or notoriety, same thing) to profit, and not accidentally, stirring up public opinion. Perhaps just profit-taking, or perhaps a deliberate attempt to increase his own celebrity/notoriety while also making a profit. Bad either way, in my opinion.
I know you're a strong advocate of the right to own guns, while I'm rather to the other side (not as far to my side as you are to your side). I can't expect too much agreement from you, but if I say Zimmerman's choice to publicly auction the gun speaks ill of him as a gun owner, maybe you'd agree?

it is overpriced. but ive seen people pay for pieces of history, like german uniforms and weapons from the 2nd world war.
I myself own a few weird things....

Yeah but that's fascinating history and there's a certain mystique to it.
This is just a gun some cop used to kill a kid.

I'd more so say it speaks ill of him as a person really. I certainly understand why he would, because in all reality he's probably going to get a big check for it and money is a strong motivator but I still think it's a pretty scummy thing to do.

Point of agreement then. I'm satisfied.
