Tone: I probably lean towards the RL end. I do like stories with some glam/prestige/'martini' elements mixed in which are lighter on explodey stuff/violence. If doing a good enough job as a spy, enemies shouldn't catch on/need to be fought barring, well, entities able to find out these things without consent or moles.

Now I suddenly suspect we're hosting a mole.

(Casual wear, Nick: collar and scarf. Scarf could be left but is something of a security blanket. Casual wear, Rmwtyliin: shirt, skirt (or dress) and high socks. Pants potentially if cold or needed. Limited color choices: must, as far as she is concerned, wear shades of brown and two of the following: (green, purple, blue) visibly, and will be extremely reluctant to wear red.. Likely to incorporate pink as well.
Come to the light side.  We have teamwork, waffles, popcorn, grape juice, and way too much ramen.

Unless one is a genealogist, therapist, geneticist, or FBI agent - who is acting within the scope of their job - to claim that anyone is wrong about their own identity is not merely absurd but also extremely rude.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

Mysterious plots and schemes.

Oh, OK... There are two reasons:
  • Light RPing that's more than just chatting. We can form ensembles -- bands, choruses, and so forth -- and stage performances or hold jam sessions, or anything else that entertains us.
  • Cover stories for spy missions. Musicians are a fine way to explain the strange-looking people doing strange things. Oto's hair changes color? "Yeah, she's beta-testing that for Maas Neotek. It'll go into general release next year if people like it. I think it's pretty neat, how 'bout you?" :P

So, with that in mind...
  • Miyuki: Singer (alto thru high soprano) and dancer; professional
  • Otonako: Guitar (wireless electric) and singer; professional
  • Amanda: Singer (alto)
  • Audette: Guitar, harmonica, washboard, and other down-home country music instruments
  • Brit: Violin
  • Katya: Violin and piano
  • Marcus: Guitar (acoustic)
  • Rumplestiltskin Rmwtyliin: Singer (soprano)
  • Sakarias: Violin and singer (baritone)
  • Torii: Guitar (acoustic and electric), singer (soprano)

Artists are also considered funky, and art shows make good cover stories and light RP events too:
  • Giovenith
  • Marcus
  • Willow

Did I miss anybody? Please let me know.

Edit: If your character might be interested in spy missions, please let me know either here or via TG.

I'm a bit late, but regarding the band stuff Crysal can do some pretty mean screamo.

I'll be posting tomorrow as well. Cat, I've noticed you posting fairly early at times: it's OK if anyone wishes to skip me.

Edit: Also, "Duncan" is an NPC translating for Rmwtyliin, my other character. He's in her shirt pocket and appears to be a naked mole rat.

Cer, although I'm facepalming for not having seen it coming a mile away, that mole was pretty funny.

TNEL, I presume you got all that stuff worked out to some extent and are ready to reclaim your chars? :)

Musical stuff for Nick, with credit to Cat for raising the subject IC:
Really liked the lyrics of country songs when younger. Likes sound of jazz, and feeling/beat of rap. Likes drums when they aren't too loud. Likes pop songs largely because others do; they're something to potentially bond over, or at least a way to feel connected to the rest of the world.

Rmwtyliin currently gravitates towards fluid melodies heavy on vocals. She'd likely prefer an orchestra or woodwind accompaniment, again fairly gentle. She finds herself enjoying faster-tempo music with a soft beat supplied mainly by the cadence of syllables and notes, and will rather like brass instruments if given a chance. Some elements of pop - repeated choruses, "catchy" nature, and simple structure - might speak to her, although she'll find the strong beat (amongst other elements) fairly jarring. Staccato is not her thing - slow ballads are a bit closer. When singing, her tone tends to be somewhat bright; this is more noticeable when she's in a good mood. (She can correct this if problematic/modulate it fairly well, as she's used to paying close attention to her tone of voice, mainly so that it doesn't give things away and hence awaste the effort put into controlling nonverbal giveaways.) Rhyme is important and will help with learning, but rhyme scheme itself is quite flexible: abacbc, abacabdcd, and abab are all familiar, and rhymes need not be entirely exact - act and lagged, for example.

EDIT: IC post made, edited slightly a few minutes prior to this edit.

Someone mentioned a music session the chars might do? Count the robot in!

Macy would probably sound like a Vocaloid when singing, recommended vocal range B2-A4. Other than singing she can do some dancing.

Fears
Primordial: Living in ignominy
Insidious: Dying
Aegis: Naomi

Music
Primordial: Can play a liquid piano, not well, but he can play it.
Insidious: Can sing in a range of voices but nothing too low or too high.
Aegis: No musical ability

Spies
James Bond style.
Especially Goldfinger, Octopussy, Spy Who Loved Me, and Live and Let Die.
Camp is fun, especially when their is a crazy over the top scarfaced villain, a secret volcano base and a pool of sharks with lasers on the heads.

Er, thanks! Also, Cat, just so you know, Duncan isn't going to heal anyone. He's a rodent translator, and in Rmwtyliin's pocket.

It is feasible that one could assume he's the one who's asking about rebandaging her wound. 'Heal' is more likely to be taken as "spell/technobabble and injury no longer exists", simply because a lot of characters can do that.

Master Musicians List
O ambiguity, where is thy sting?

Professionals
  • Miyuki: Singer (alto thru high soprano) and dancer
  • Otonako: Guitar (wireless electric) and singer
  • Sakarias: Violin and singer (baritone, only at amateur skill)

Amateurs
  • Amanda: Singer (alto)
  • Audette: Guitar, harmonica, washboard, and other down-home country music instruments
  • Brit: Violin
  • Hans: Singer (high tenor)
  • Katya: Violin and piano
  • Klaus: Spoons, singer (baritone)
  • Insidious: Singer (contralto thru mezzo soprano?)
  • Macy: Singer (tenor)
  • Marcus: Guitar (acoustic)
  • Ocho: Singer (tenor?)
  • Primordial: Liquid Piano
  • Rmwtyliin: Singer (soprano)
  • Romulus: Horn of Wilhelm
  • Thaddeus: Singer (bass)
  • Torii: Guitar (acoustic and electric), singer (soprano)

Please let me know if this needs any corrections.

Since this list is useful for a number of RPing purposes, would it be worth linking somewhere on the first page?

I'm not sure if Sakarias should be under professional or amateur, he's never been able to actually make a job out of his skill with violin but he did get an education towards doing so :p

Since the espionage votes are evenly split between Bond and Bourne, I think I'll take Fvaar's suggestion and run RL tradecraft with glamour/glitz. If the team is an A-list professional band and their staff, the group might reasonably hobnob with beautiful people, so this works out fine. We also have enough musicans available that we can play this basic cover story with a bunch of different ensembles, so it doesn't get old.

Folks wanting more Bond in their spying: please don't let my decision stop you. Feel free to run, propose, and/or collaborate on Bond-ed stories. I'm taking the lead on cloak&dagger missions purely by chance, so I'm willing to work with anybody who has ideas.

Hm. Skill 3 in violin. Skill 3 seems to mean "can to this for a living", so I'll move him to professional. IRL, there are plenty of excellent classically-trained musicians looking for work these days.

Well, it's a recommended range, but she can go higher or lower, but it would not go well. Pretty much how like certain Vocaloids sound terrible at notes like say, D5.
