Also, what's the size of the D-COM's operations. Am I correct in assuming that it's comparable to the size of X-Com in the original X-Com game?

Yeah, and we're probably not nuking Prague since the aliens haven't sent a full scale invasion yet.

Not only is it going to have a disasterous effect on the world economy, which might adversely affect D-COM's ability to find funding, to put it mildly, it's also going to be a public relations catastrophe. The people minor and secondary powers - like the Czech Republic - that can't afford their own nuclear protection are going to be somewhat alarmed. Everybody is going to know fully well that D-COM is the kind of organization that nukes cities, and any politician that wants to be re-elected is going to start publically demadding an explanation from D-COM, which they can't provide, since this is an extremely premature strike. Which, again, jeopardizes D-COM's ability to secure funding. Then, of course, is the strategic disaster that is creating a gigantic radioactive zone in the middle of populated Europe, that soldiers can't even go into or collect intel from without expensive and clumsy special equipment - a perfect entry point for otherworldly invaders. Oh, and I do believe that removing Prague from the map will somewhat curtail the Czech Republic's ability to hold itself together, which means somebody has to start shelling out a lot of money for extra security forces, and that somebody (probably the E.U.) is going to be rather displeased. Not to mention that this nuke doesn't actually accomplish anything that can't be accomplished by sending a Czech division in. It might be slower, clumsier, and messier than doing it by D-COM mission, but it sure works a lot better and leaves a lot less casualties than a strategic nuclear. Also, remind me why exactly we're using a strategic nuclear when a tactical nuclear will do the job just as well with a lot less mess and a lot less casualties?
I literally cannot imagine what perspective you need to have to think that this is a good idea, unless you're the kind of deranged maniac that wants humanity to lose this war.

Of course. But my character doesn't know that. Nor does any soldier, administrator, or worker that heard about this bomb, all of whom are going to be quite outraged.
Then again, a soldier in battle with his life on the line is probably not concerned with the long-term implications of a strategic nuclear.
And this sort of a joke is something you can only pull off once.
