Even sites from famous newspapers, which are hardly worth being called dodgy, have been hijacked to host drive-by downloads in the past. It's really not just "shady" ones, and I do have no problem with less intrusive ads (the ones on Nationstates for example were never a problem and even amusing to some extent)
