The Premise

Humanity has yet again proven themselves to be a volatile, self-destructive race. Nuclear weapons, political meandering, religious fanaticism, and terrorism all play massive parts on the world stage. But, you do not care for the World of Humanity, for the world stage. You care for the party behind the curtain, the World of Darkness. You care for the Masquerade, even if you yourself are not playing a major part. Of course, you endeavor to do so eventually, but for now, you are confined to a small part. You are a human, or ghoul, in the service of a vampire master, who in turn serves their maker, who in turn serves a clan, who in turn serves a clan head, who in turn serves an ancient, who serves their own dark whims.

It's a rather long ladder to climb, yes? And one that seems to have no hope of you reaching the top. Yet, you will still try, for that is your lot in life. To scramble like the prey you are, trying to be the apex predator.

You have been sent to the Muslim Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by your master to play a part in a joint operation. This operation's point? To take control of an archeological dig in the Empty Quarter, which seems to have found a lost city. The legend among the World of Darkness dictates that this might be the ruins of Ubar, or Enoch, or, as it is more commonly known, the First City. Vampires are hesitant to set foot on it's ground, that it may be cursed to the Kindred that once inhabited it's walls, and so they have decided that only Kine and ghoul servants may explore it's depths.

Most believe this to be a farce, another false lead to distract the Children of Cain from the true problems, like the Anarchs and Sabbat, but... Others among the Camarilla, and even the Anarchs and Sabbat, whisper that this rumor may be true.

If it is, the power that could be gained by the vampires (And their servants) is astronomical.

If not, then it's not like the vampires lost any valuable time. And if some puny humans are lost? If the servants die from disease, or injury, or magical trap?

C'est la vie.

The Ramble

Welcome, to the first thread of this World of Darkness based role play! This RP will be written in the vein of mystery and old tabletop games, meaning a lot of puzzles, fighting, and hopefully drama. And death. And undeath. A whole lot of good stuff. This, personally, is my first RP as an OP, so any advice is welcome. If you have advice to give, shoot me a TG and we'll talk. Other than that, I want this thread to be somewhat higher quality than some of the others I've been a part of, meaning that I would prefer for posts to be of thread line length on a computer screen. Exceptions can be made, of course, and are generally accepted if in certain situations. I have a heavy bias in writing, so your biographies are what I mainly use to determine whether or not you are accepted. If you have some lore issues in them, that's fine, I will TG you about corrections. Overall, I just want to help and I hope we can all have a great time!

The Rules

1. The Word of the OP is Law.

2. The Word of the Co-OP is like State Law, applicable to you, but overruled by the OP Law.

3. If you have a problem with a Co-OP ruling, do not argue, just TG the OP.

4. No Godmodding.

5. No OOC posting in the IC, only in the OOC.

6. If you have a problem, please, discuss it civilly with the other party, and if it gets out of hand, I or the Co-OP will take care of it.

7. All characters are of equal strength unless both characters players agree one is stronger than the other.

Extra Information

For those of you who have never seen or played Vampire: The Masquerade before, the term 'Ghoul' may be unfamiliar. In the World of Darkness, a ghoul is not a ghost, or a zombie, or even a cannibalistic hunter with a special limb that caused Japan to turn into a near-apocalyptic military regime. No, a ghoul is something simple. It's a human that feeds off of a vampire's blood. Doing this gives the human better speed and strength, it causes him to stop aging, and it may allow him to use a vampiric discipline to assist him, even though that depletes his blood supply. Ah, blood supply you ask. You see, ghoulism is not permanent. One gift of a vampire's vitae, or blood, last for a month, giving the human the aforementioned effects. When it runs out, though, the former ghoul loses it's effects. He ages to his proper age and he becomes weak again. Now, you may be asking, why would I chose not to be a ghoul? Well, there are several drawbacks. The vitae of a vampire is severely addicting, as it is certainly the most powerful drug a human can ingest, and due to this fact, it's supply is used by a vampire to control his ghoul. Meaning, that a ghoul is always a vampire's slave, and that it is very difficult to free himself from his master, much harder than any other human. Secondly, a ghoul is much more emotionally inclined than humans, following animalistic instincts more than logical reasoning, as the vitae brings the human closer to their inner Beast. Thirdly, there is the threat of frenzy. This happens the closer a ghoul gets to the end of their blood supply, the threat always there but increasing the 'hungrier' the ghoul gets. Overall, if you wish to be more of a warrior/fighter type character in a melee sense, it might be best if you chose ghoul.

The Camarilla

The Camarilla is the oldest sect of vampires in the world, coming into existence in the 1400's, and is also the largest in the world. It maintains the Masquerade, the massive battle and play the Kindred put on to hide themselves from Humanity. Due to the individualistic nature of vampires, the organization of the Camarilla is very loose. Most Camarilla cities are autonomous, with no allegiance to any other city or state. Each is ruled by a prince who holds the most control, but is put into check by the primogen, or main council. The Camarilla is determined in maintaining the status quo, effectively, in maintaining world peace. They keep hostilities to a minimum, and make sure the humans do not know of vampire existence. The current dig in the Empty Quarter is a Camarilla expedition.

The Sabbat

The Sabbat is an organization almost as old as the Camarilla, in fact, it was founded only a few months after the Camarilla. It was founded so soon after because two clans, the previous Anarch rebels that wished to overthrow Kindred society, were slighted in the peace treaty that founded the Camarilla. These Anarchs ignored the treaty and the new sect of vampires, forming their own which went against everything the Camarilla stood for. They did not participate in the Masquerade, instead preferring to revel in their humanity, thinking themselves superior to humans because of it. They fought the Camarilla at every turn, but nowadays, they are only another threat among many to the basis of Kindred and Kine society. The sect also has a habit of just making Kindred from Kine to suit their interests and schemes, using them as fodder. The Sabbat may wish to interfere with the dig and take it over as their own. Any players that wish to be Sabbat must TG the OP, and be fore warned... you will come into direct conflict with other players at some point.

The Anarchs

Maybe it's bigger for a reason, okay!?
The Anarchs are a loose confederation of small time vampires that want to destroy the current Society that governs all Kindred. They want a more democratic, equal governing sect that takes all factions opinions, not just houses and old vampires, into account. Nearly every city that has a Camarilla or Sabbat presence has an Anarch cell hidden within it. Conspiracies between these cells are few and far between, but when it does happen, the effects seem to be disastrous. If, they are not found out. The Anarchs would mostly have an interest in the dig just to destroy any evidence of it, as they would not want any Antediluvians or other powerful vampires coming from it.

Any players that wish to be from a smaller, less well-known faction must TG me, and if accepted, will be brought in on the side of the Camarilla as a good-will mission.

Ventrue

The Ventrue Clan is made of leaders, ambitious men, and rich billionaires. They are the clan that believes themselves to be the true leaders of the Camarilla, and of all Kindred if you ask them. In the past they were taken from the lines of kings, emperors, merchant princes, warlords, and knights. They are the second most powerful in the Camarilla.

Tremere

The Tremere Clan is the strongest clan of the modern times, and also the youngest, having come into being during the Dark Ages. They are a clan of mages that accidently cursed themselves and their House into vampirism, and now the only magic they can manipulate is that of blood. Their power lies in their secrecy, hierarchy leadership, and magical power.

Toreador

The Toreador Clan is a clan of artisans and innovators, actors and writers. They are the beautiful people of the world. They inspired the myths and legends of the seductive vampire, the one that enticed mortals to an early grave. They strive for perfection in their art, yet never attain it. They reach for beauty, never to truly grasp it.

Malkavians

The Malkavian Clan is a group of fortune tellers and people with the ability to see the future. They are also a clan of lunatics and madmen, able to see the future in glimpses but never relate it in understandable terms. The Kindred of this clan share a connection of the mind, called the Madness Network or Cobweb.

Brujah

The Brujah Clan is a clan of rebels and activists, of thugs and frenzied zealots. They are the most active clan in the Anarchs, seeing the Camarilla as an insult to their own clan. The Brujah used to be a clan of lofty philosophers and intellects, but ever since the fall of Carthage, their paradise, they have fallen as well.

Nosferatu

The Nosferatu Clan are a clan of monsters and shadows, the spymasters of the dead. They seek out information and sell it for a price, making a way in a world that does not support them. The Masquerade affects them most, forcing them to live underground and in the sewers, or in seclusion from the rest of Kindred and Kine.

Gangrel

The Gangrel Clan is made of nomads. They have a deep connection to the Beast within themselves, gaining an animalistic feature every time they fall to the Beast. They are able to use one of their disciplines to turn into animals, or gain temporary animalistic features. They were one of the founding clans of the Camarilla, but have recently left the fold.

Ravnos

The Ravnos Clan is a clan of gypsies and wanderers, much like the Gangrel. Not like the Gangrel, though, the Ravnos are not understood as a clan, simply seen as gypsies and only that. They have no place in the Masquerade. Each is a criminal, with a vice they must attend to, ranging from theft to murder.

Tzimisce

The Tzimisce Clan is one of the founders of the Sabbat. They are scholars and flesh-shapers, polite and intellectual on the inside, cruel and sadistic on the inside. They wear a mask, not unlike their enemies, but have actually left the human condition long ago, now only endeavoring to surpass their Kindred condition.

Lasombra

The Lasombra Clan is the leader of the Sabbat, and the inspiration for the original vampire. They cast no reflection, or appearance, on any device. This extends even to their clothes and objects they are holding. The control the shadow as well, and subscribe to the theory that the strong should rule and the weak serve.

Assamite

The Assamite Clan is a group of Muslim/Middle Eastern vampires that formed their fortune and existence alone, separated from the other Cainites. They were the only clan in the Middle East, and so morphed to fit the role, the Assamites having three castes that preform different jobs in the clans, and also have their own unique weaknesses and strengths. They are typically considered independents although the Sabbat have claimed them as a member.

Any other Clans may be used, but please ask first.

Riyadh

The capital of Saudi Arabia, this will be the main base of the Camarilla operation.

The Empty Quarter

The Desert to the south of Riyadh, and the possible location of the legendary First City.

Estella's early childhood was rough due to her frailty as a child. She was born prematurely in a small town in the country of Israel but managed to survive through her infancy. Throughout her life she was sickly and pale, often being forced to stay at home due to illness but as each illness passed, she seemed to be gaining strength. Beginning at the age of 13, she began to go out on nightly walks, sneaking out of her house through her bedroom window and enjoying the cool nightly air as she walked. When she was 14 she was still going out on her nightly walks, though she bean to realize how violent other humans could be, especially under cover of moonlight. That year, she also had a fateful encounter with Fawzaana Din, her soon-to-be mistress, when she accidentally walked into her feeding.

The young girl panicked once the vampire noticed her, she attempted to flee but was easily caught by the superior creature. She could barely speak a word as fear choked her as the vampire did nothing but make a teasing, yet still intimidating, shushing action as she pushed the child back out into the alleyway. Her panic and fear began to fade as a new feeling began to build up, amazement.

Every night for a year, she would return to the spot she saw the vampire but she never saw her. As each night of disappointment passed, her hopes of meeting the vampire shrank until she stopped going to the spot. When she was 16 she was once again out on her nightly walks, remembering when she was a younger child how she used to believe that there was a monster in an alleyway. As she passed the spot that her 14 year old self would check for the monster she stopped. The faintest sound of rustling could be heard coming from the alleyway and her younger self began to resurface. With a look of childish amazement she slipped down the alleyway to try to get a glimpse of what was making the noise but once she saw what was making it, just like when she was a child, fear built up. Once again, the vampire was feeding in the alleyway. Just like last time, she tried to get away but accidentally tripped on a stone and being rewarded with the attention of the vampire.

"I remember you," the vampire said for the first time, her hauntingly calm voice sending chills up her spine, "you were that little girl that stumbled here a year or two ago." Estella was over taken by fear as she merely nodded her head. "Well I've been watching you come to this spot for quite some time," she said with a slight grin, showing just enough teeth to display her fangs, "When you stopped coming by I had thought you had given up looking for me but it appears you haven't. I think I will have to do something more... permanent to make sure you don't come snooping around here again."

Estella's eyes went wide with fear as she tried to speak, her voice frozen by the chilling aura the vampire gave off.

"It's a shame you aren't a vocal one," the vampire said with a sadistic grin, "I find it much more amusing when my victims scream, though it's rude when my meal does not even bother to acknowledge her name after all these years."

"I-I'm Estella Letael," she barely managed to whisper, "p-please don't kill me, I'll do anything you want me to-"

Her voice was quickly muffled by the vampire's hand, which pinched her mouth shut. "Before you start begging for your life allow me to introduce myself," she said with with a slight chuckle, her sadistic grin seeming more like a sincere grin, "dear child, my name is Fawzaana Din, and I am a vampire. You're quite lucky today since my last servant failed to comply with an order I am in need of a new one."

Another emotion from her childhood once again resurfaced, amazement. The vampire also saw this as a smug grin transformed on her face. "Well it does seem you are quite eager to become my servant," she said with a grin, "and I do hate to overeat, so I will spare you... but you will become my servant until your usefulness wears out."

And with that, Estella was allowed to stand and she was whisked out of the town by the vampire mistress.

Bio: Growing up, Henry was never, ever known for being an active person. He always stayed inside and slept for most of the day. He was lazy, incredibly so, but even then he had a lot of confidence in himself, saying he was actually smart if he just put his mind to something, which he rarely ever did, unfortunately. His mother was a math teacher and his father was a businessman who was never at home when Henry was. He grew very attached to his mother and practically never let her go until he was in his late teenage years. During school he was the best at math, often being tutored by his mother, and was also decent in creative writing while his grades suffered in science and PE, PE being due to lack of ambition and participation.

He met his master, Aashiq Essa, under some circumstances that he would rather not admit to. You see, his master looked rather close to Henry's age and...he was also rather attracted. He ended up flirting with Henry, who was bisexual and still is. Like Henry himself, Aashiq had thought Henry had potential, and all he needed to do was unleash it. What better way to unleash his potential then to make him the servant of a vampire? So, that was what had happened. He had attracted Henry's attention and made him his servant soon afterwards. Henry was honestly not sure whether to be nervous about this or okay with it.

During the next few months of Henry becoming a servant, he was treated with a bit more respect than you'd think. He'd get a couple of naps in here and there if he finished all of his work and was only woken up by his master if he seemed like he was going to sleep in after ten. He was put under training to try and unlock his full potential, but with the lack of ambition and Henry being a nap-aholic, it wasn't working very well. He just lacked the ambition and couldn't do much physically either. He only really shone through in random academic things like math equations, though it did have its use, certainly. With one last attempt to show potential in the boy, Aashiq had sent him to Riyadh, which Aashiq had paid for, since he was a rather wealthy man, actually. He hoped that Henry would actually be of use to the Camarilla and not just sleep the whole time. Well, let's just hope he doesn't.

It's all good here and there as he worked for local shipbuilder as one of the dockworkers. At that moment, he met with his Master, Maria Serena de LaCroix, who at that time was a local owner of the bar. Both were smitten and fell in love.

However, one day, Maria was about to be cornered by few hunters, vampire hunters. Johann arrived and, not knowing that Maria could killed all of them, decided to fought the hunters. He able to made them leave, at the cost of being mortally wounded in the end. Maria, smitten and fell in love so much, decided to made him his one and only, ghoul.

Making him a vampire, despite how easy that is, is not feasible, and she is still quite a young vampire herself, having live for the last 200 years, used to be a daughter of a minor French noble. Now live together but knows that he couldn't returned to his family, decided to arranged for a large sum of money to be sent there alongside a letter detailing his "death."

Long after that, he and Maria finally settling permanently in Riyadh. Maria, having found a place as an Anarch, decided to opened a private and small library where it is use as one of Anarch's cell, where Johann and Maria lived as well.
