The Ministry of Defense has plans of invading and capturing it. It would not be hard since no one lives there, and it is a short way across the water." He pulled up his briefcase and looked into it. "Let me see if I have a picture..." he muttered to himself. Lowe took out her phone and called up a picture on the Internet. "Here, the larger island is Salderia; the one in the back is Little Darby." she said as she handed the phone over to Phyrexus.

"I will contact Mr. Jameson after this meeting has concluded." replied Lowe. "Now, I believe that we should move onto the USN's Foreign Policy. Are we in agreement? I have an offer from another alliance that I would like to bring up."

Klunsten, shifted to his other side, trying to get comfortable. He nodded and said "yes, I believe that is a good idea."

[The United Remnants of America]

Captain Simmons shifted in his seat. "We are not in agreement. If you allow my government to handle the matter, I assure you that we can acquire the island for either USN or Salderian control, without a large show of military force, and also without our nations chipping in money to this man. If he is as rich as what Mr. Sisko and Mr. Lowe describe, then more money would be of little importance to him. Trust me when I say that my government can obtain the rights to this island without the hassle of what sounds more and more like bribery, and what sounds like an invasion."

[Salderia]

"Captain, invasion was off the table when the Minister," Sisko nodded toward the Vikdenian delegate, "pointed out that it would just be theft. As for bribery,I-" He was cut off by Lowe as she laid a hand on his arm. James is being too brash. These are our allies, and he is offering help she thought. Lowe looked over to the Captain, and said "If you were to obtain the Island for Salderia, we would be in your nation's debt. We have wanted that island for a year now. We could establish a USN base. With outside investment, a recreational zone could be established as well."

Simmons waved his hand dismissively, "There is no need o be indebted to us. Our nations are allies, it is the same kind of favor that would be expected of you, were the positions reversed. You've wanted the island for a year, and I can assure you we can get you the island within the month. I just have two questions, and that is what nationality is this Mr. Jameson, as well as why he is so... well-off. That information would be very valuable to me and my government."

Simmons had stressed the words 'well-off' not so much for a reason, but due to his upbringing. By international standards, the average Remnant citizen worked for peanuts; only a stunning NS$20,000 a year, which was almost double that in the URA's currency, due to inflation. The only Remnants that would be rich enough to buy an entire island would be executives of either of the three major state corporations, or the military or government and the highest-ranking officials in either. Even Simmons, a retired captain in the Remnant Army and now an adviser to both the President's cabinet as well as the military Joint Chiefs, he barely made enough to be able to buy a house: a status symbol among Remnants was the ownership of a standalone house that sat outside of the URA's megacities of hundreds of millions of citizens. Very few could achieve it, and with one or two more years of hard work, Simmons could achieve that goal. And yet this man bought himself an entire island and did nothing with it. Asshole.

Sisko didn't see it that way, he saw it as a legitimate purchase of land. Grudgingly, he finally let out a smile, but it felt too forced to him. "Thank you...sir" he managed to choke out. Lowe shot Sisko a dirty glance. A scientist by profession, he was no diplomat. Sisko felt most comfortable in a simulated "Hot Zone" with extremely deadly diseases.

Lowe, on the other hand, was a political science major, and achieved her masters in it as well. She understood people better, and was able to act gracious to others, even when she did not feel that way. Now she was thinking about how to answer Simmons's questions,but before she could answer, Sisko said "Mr. Simmons, the man in question got his wealth by exploiting the common man. He's on the board of directors for Gauro Corp, a shoe manufacturer." Oh great, his Red is showing! thought Lowe. "Companies like Nike and Reebok sub contract to his company for cheaper prices. Many of their factories are in NICs and LDCs, where labor is much cheaper. And he gets more money for sitting at a desk all day than those in the sweatshops."

Lowe cut in "Technically, he got it all legitimately, as far as we can tell. However, being a micro-country, with limited resources, we could not make a full background check. As for nationality, Mr. Jameson is from Canada."

"On this note, we would like to put forward a suggestion for a joint-fleet exercise under the leadership of our nation. It would be a great way to practice our ability to coordinate properly while at the same time point out problems that we need to work on. "Well, since I have heard no objections, I will move the conversation to foreign policy" Sisko waited a second before continuing. "We, myself and Lowe have recently been in contact with the Prime Minister of the International Freedom Coalition. He has expressed a wish to open relations with our alliance. What do you people think about this?"

"I think that encouraging relations with the IFC sounds like a good idea," concurred Phyrexus. "I have also received word from Sperland that the Anarchist Brotherhood wishes to open more relations with us."

[Vikden]

"It is my understanding that Sperland is currently at war. If I remember the news correctly, they were invaded. It seems to me that they may only want an alliance to help themselves in the war. The IFC, however, is a large alliance. If we were to open negotiations with them, it would give our alliance more legitimacy on the international view we do now. It may even lead us take the place of the now defunct United Left."

"More allies are always better than less,I have no objections of starting diplomatic relationships with other alliances like IFC,after all,peace is good for everyone apart from warmongers."

"Well we have to be careful not to attract too much attention from the likes of SACTO." the special representative of the Democratic People's Republic of Aeyariss, General Commissar Kyle Hideyoshi said to the conference. "The last thing we need is to have those pesky bourgeoisie dogs of the Nihonese Empire to trample over our sovereign rights. ALthough at the moment I'm not sure how they view us as an alliance."

Captain Simmons raised his voice as General Hideyoshi finished speaking, "I personally take offense to that comment, General. SACTO will not be an aggressor against an alliance such as the United Socialist Nations. And I would personally like if you didn't speak such slander against an ally of the United Remnants of America."

"If we could please be civil about any other alliances that we may or may not have some form of relations with, that would be excellent. Although Topkekkia does not agree with the ideals of SACTO, there is no sense in antagonizing them, as well as their being no sense in antagonizing member states of the USN." Phyrexus didn't want the meeting to go downhill. He believed that the alliance could survive, but only if the members of it didn't attack one another before an outside force could intervene.
