Honestly, that's kind of an upside of Task Force Atlas. No matter how crazy shit gets, it only ever has to affect a few people from your country, and then your nation's canon is safe.

I think you're purposefully ignoring my point, and taking my analogies out of context.

Let me explain in another way:

In RP, it's a broadly accepted rule that nobody has to accept or recognize the existence of validity of another entity in any form on NS. So some people would rather ignore the rest of NS and interact in an established world because the NS world is innately absurd. Even if you were to ignore those who use NS pops, you still have those with ridiculous "pop-caps" of upwards of two billion [with a GDP of capita of like, 67,000, or something], tens of thousands of other nations, and no real consistency.

Some people want to RP in a closed world because they enjoy having a firmly established RP world in which they can account for their interactions with every other nation in this world, and vice versa. Some people would like to RP in an environment, say, similar to earth, in which the dynamics of power, trade, and etc. are all clearly defined and established in a finite world that isn't as likely to change without the players' knowledge or consent. Being in open II doesn't really allow for this because there are tens-of-thousands of RPers, new players joining all the time, a vast majority of RPers don't RP their nations in an acceptably "realistic manner" etc.

Not everybody RPs the same way you do, L&A, and not everybody wants the same things you want, and your idea of a good RP community or world is certainly not universal or even necessarily right, unless, of course, you wish to suggest that dozens of other people are actually doing free-form RP wrong.

As Brytene so aptly put it:

Brytene wrote:I think this is the fear people have over the 'one-region' theory. You will by default get...the darkness creeping in. There'll always be one guy who claims he is going to nuke the earth, or fire a Death Star at the Sun, or something insane, and then everyone either has to ignore it and try to deal with the canon mess and confusion it sparks, or else be dragged into a war against the 'Darth Vaderian Empire' or the 'Fifth Nazi Reich' or something stupid

And I'm inclined to agree with him. You could ignore the wankers, as you mentioned, but you seem to fail to realize that not everybody wants to go through the hassle of doing that in the first place. And some people want to RP in a world with others who share their ideas of realism and consistency, or otherwise.
Libraria and Ausitoria wrote:
Valaran wrote:That's argumentum ad absurdum - by its tenet, every RPIng site I'm not RPing at I am missing out and being missed out on. Since I can't be everywhere at once, I choose where I want to be, where I have the most enjoyment. From my perspective, the 'general II canon' isn't it.

Yes, but it isn't fun only because nobody think it's fun so they won't devote any time to it. If they thought it was fun and devoted some time to it then it would be fun because they'd have made it fun together. That's how society works (or doesn't): people work together (or don't) to create something useful, like fun.

I don't know what sort of argument that is, but I call it argumentum ad stock market liquidity - they run (or don't) on the same principle.

I hardly believe a few closed world regions is going to spoil the fun for everybody. You still have on NS, right? Even with regions like Pardes and Mare existing? Then your argument is moot? Who cares if a few people would rather be left alone? You have no right to their time and they certainly asking for yours, and they aren't harming anybody because there are clearly enough people who will and want to interact with you on open II.

Libraria and Ausitoria wrote:I said will be the death.

I don't see the RP community dying, nor do I see any RPers dying, nor is there anything to suggest that they will. Not in the past, not in the present, and certainly not the future. A few closed-world communities haven't and won't contribute to the death of RP on NS, contrary to what you seem to believe. Now, yes, if everybody were to hop into a sudden closed-world phase, then there might be a problem and I might be inclined to agree with you. But I hardly believe blaming those who RP in closed worlds for the death of RP or RPers is at all reasonable in any sense.

Libraria and Ausitoria wrote:I never said people who didn't RP across regional boundaries didn't RP across regional boundaries - that would be arguing against a tautology (and obviously pointless).

I'm talking about people who don't RP across regional boundaries, who exist in closed worlds, who contribute otherwise by offering assistance in lineart, economic/sociological expertise, etc, to those outside their region. They're clearly mono-regional, and generally RP within the confines of their own closed-world, but they're contributing a lot more than most NSers. They're sharing their ideas and creativity, even if they won't RP or interact with other nations outside of their single region.

Because, you know, such people exist. The truth resists simplicity.

That doesn't mean it's sensible to cut every other region off.

In any society, normally people can work together to achieve a compromise - which can be remarkably effective.

New Chilokver wrote:What's the deal with Whiteshore and the Tarkanese Federation?

There is currently a conflict between UCASIRE vs. SACTO, and in a related incident Whitshore and the Tarkanese Federation have to war. Inyurstan, as a member of SACTO, has sent support to the Tarkanese, and the Ausitorian government is intent upon demonstrating their equivalent ability to send support to Whiteshore, i.e. their independence from SACTO. (By extension, they also wish to demonstrate the IFC's ability to act independently from SACTO).

The Aestorian Commonwealth - Pax Prosperitas - Gloria in Maere - (Factbook)

Disclaimer: Notwithstanding any mention of their nations, Ausitoria and its canon does not exist nor impact the canon of many IFC & SACTO & closed-region nations; and it is harassment to presume it does. However in accordance with my open-door policy the converse does not apply: they still impact Ausitoria's canon.

DHQ-651 is an anomalous one, remember.

Anything can happen. The guy from Quirina knows about a lot of multiversal physics yet things haven't fallen apart (yet).

Also, saying SACTO has devolved into what you said is likely not going to give anyone the good memetics.

Hey, hey, hey I'm just quoting a line I saw posted by one of their own members. I guess I took it too literally, but at a glance it seems a few subgroups within SACTO have let the anti-communist portion of their agenda lead them into a few murky waters. Mebbe I just severely misconstrued what I saw.

UCASIRE, from my understanding, is not entirely dissimilar from being the latest iteration of the United Left, SACTO's earlier enemies.

SACTO is the primary other MT RP group, and their aim is the destruction of communism, and the relationship is frightfully complicated.

Both alliances share a goal of defeating communist dictatorships, but SACTO includes nations which it is virtually impossible to consider to be free democracies, and the IFC includes nations which are social democrat or democratic socialist or inclined to view such nations as their friends, and some of the more obsessive SACTO nations consider those not anti-socialist nations to be harbouring and aiding communists.

Some SACTO members are honoured members in the IFC, including the Foreign Secretary Flardania, who I appointed; some SACTO members outside the IFC are practically in a state of cold war with some not entirely anti-socialist IFC members (e.g. Ausitoria); some SACTO members not in the IFC are anyway friends of other IFC members, and vice versa.

To complicate matters further, there's a spot of bad OOC history between various members, due to different understandings of what is an what isn't reasonable.

You did.

Also, if, in the Project Warfighter thread, I was to refer to Task Force Atlas as a bunch of assholes who wank their special forces, that's cool. I'm part of the group and I say it with love. But, it's not okay for someone not part of the group to say that, then it's not an inside joke, it's an insult.

You backpedaled nicely, though. Good job.

Probably. Given that I'm a SACTO member and I tend to be the opposite of fascist.

Anyways, what is the equivalent of the UL nowadays?

Union of Socialist Nations. USN. At least, it's made up of UL members.

But apparently this USCAIRE or whatever the Hell it is - pretenders, they sound like, are trying to take that title.
