We do not have much laws regarding consuming and buying alcohol more than you have to be at least 12 to buy in a shop or at a tavern. However it is still considered extremely inappropriate for anyone of noble birth to be drunk (the commoners are however free from any such restrictions and often seen totally wasted at the local tavern).

Alcohol has been totally banned (Prohibition) in TurtleShroom since the nation's founding in the 1790s. It is illegal to own, drink, sell, consume, use, manufacture, distribute, trade, import, export, horde, store, possess, and partake in alcohol and most alcoholic products. Period.

Prohibition is irrevocably enforced by the Constitution of TurtleShroom, and not in amendment form, either, but in the actual document framework.

The punishment for merely being caught drinking alcohol is two weeks of privatized prison, and that doubles per offense. TurtleShroom has a dedicated, separate court circuit to try drug and alcohol cases, which even has its own independent Supreme Court, the Grand Alcoholic Tribunal. My nation enforces strict, total Prohibition on religious grounds. Prohibition is so ingrained into the government that there is an entirely separate Alcohol Circuit of courts, where anything and everything involving alcohol is tried. There's even a supreme court exclusively for alcoholic purposes. Called the "Grand Alcoholic Tribunal", they are usually the ones that determine if an alcoholic product (e.g. hand sanitizer) is legal under Prohibition. They also hear major appellate cases from the lower circuits.


Naturally, that creates a huge black market and an even larger bootlegging system. In any prison, up to 39% of the inmates are jailed for alcohol-related crimes. The prisons can actually take the strain of alcohol crimes and the black market because they are privatized, expansive, quantitative, and mostly unregulated.

(Bootlegging in TurtleShroom would be a very entertaining roleplay post. Alcohol sells for 300% the normal price in the TurtleShroom black market, simply because it's so hard to obtain.)

The legal limit for operating a vehicle is .05. Getting caught drinking and driving/drunk while driving holds very serious punishments. While people are encouraged to choose a designated driver, the police are happy to give drunk people rides home at no charge, so in addition to the harsh punishment, drunk driving is fairly rare.

Personal and collective responsibility is important for all citizens of TWTDSurvivors, so people who require transport for whatever reason, only need ask and something will be sorted out reasonably quickly for them...
We have a variable but harsh policy relating to people caught drinking or intoxicated due to drugs, while driving... with the minimum ban for a first offence being 5 years and a total ban should someone get caught twice. There is also a minimum of one year of house detention, though the person is permitted to leave for works... with 25% of their income after tax forfeit to the state, for health care.... If an injury or death is caused, a lifetime ban is automatically imposed, with 50% of income taken, 25% for the health service and 25% towards the compensation of any victims, (this is collected by the state and distributed according to need/injuries...); with a minimum of two years house arrest and a maximum of detention in a psychiatric department, with the time there determined by professionals and 10 years of house arrest, as above.... Anyone caught driving while banned, is also admitted to a psychiatric department as above, with a minimum of two years house detention and 50% of income ceased....
We haven’t had to implement these draconian measures, as our population wouldn’t think of drinking or using drugs and controlling motorised transport or machinery; as all would be too concerned about causing harm to another, with their own condition/wellbeing secondary to this....

Laws aren't really enforced on the Alcohol Drinking age, though most recommend 16 years of age to be the most appropriate.

When you're found drunk operating machinery, it's off to rehab *shudder* you go. Basically, that's about it.

2 - You can buy it in and drink in private when you turn 18 (if you don't look old enough, you have to prove that you're 18+).
