Why is my nation is so primitive?

Recently my nation has been ranged as the most primitive. I'm not very happy about this. I don't understand what exactly happened to cause this. Why did this happen?

It's probably because your nation has a relatively high rating for 'Religiousness': The game unfortunately seems to assume that believing in any 'higher power' automatically means a superstitious rejection of science...

I believe it is because you restricted the use and access of technology and perhaps banned scientific research. You can increase scientific advancement by doing the opposite of what I said in the previous sentence.

That's true in some cases, but doesn't apply to all. I managed to balance a high scientific advancement with high religiousness.

mine is doing the same. But i don't cater to any religion, and I focus allot on scientific advancement.
