Part of me wants to see campaign ads paid for by Big Oil supporting Bernie Sanders for president. Not that Bernie will likely get the nomination... but IF... just IF... somehow Hillary's campaign implodes or whatever and Sanders and Trump are the candidates, and Trump doubles down on his fascistoid pronouncements, to see all the big corporations gnashing their teeth in having to support Bernie as the far more reasonable of the two alternatives (he already is, but then it would be even more so)...

Senate Democrats say that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is single-handedly blocking a bill to help 9/11 first responders from being included in the long-term highway bill, which was unveiled today and is expected to pass as soon as this week.

The bill, called the[b] James L. Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act, would reauthorize an expiring health care program for 9/11 first responders permanently, while at the same time reauthorizing a victims compensation fund for five years, aides say. [/b]

But aides familiar with the negotiations say that Senator McConnell asked that the highway bill also lift the US ban on oil exports, and when that was not agreed to he stopped the Zadroga Act from being included in the five-year highway legislation.

"I believe that Senator McConnell was using this as a negotiating position—give us something, we'll give you help for the 9/11 rescue workers," Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) told reporters, "And in the end he was the one, Senator Schumer and Gillibrand ticked off every box of every potential opponent, Democrat, Republican, House and Senate, and it all came down to one box at the bottom: Mitch McConnell. He stopped it."

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) says an agreement on the Zadroga Act has been "done for weeks," and that he was "surprised" when he was told it would not be included in the Highway Bill.

Apparently, slimy scumbag* Mitch McConnell, in what is almost par for the course in present day GOP politics, demands favors for his corporate oil industry buddies, proving once more that republicans really do not care about first responders... no they don't care, only insofar as they can pretend to be all patriotic in mouthing support, but when push comes to shove, the GOP keeps blocking actual bills that would help actual first responders.

Though republicans want you to believe that McConnell really really didn't do anything of the kind. Paul Ryan called it a priority. But apparently, not priority enough to prioritize voting it through, like, three months ago when the original bill expired.

The problem being, of course, lack of incentives (ie handouts for the rich) for the GOP to vote for it. If there aren't tax cuts for the rich, if there isn't deregulation, if there aren't handouts for corporations or any of that, republicans will not support a bill, no matter what that bill is, it seems. And lacking handouts for the rich, republicans want anti-abortion language. A bipartisan human trafficking bill got stuck in the Senate earlier this year because Republicans slipped in anti-abortion language.

Trump actually brings up a good point, the US had ICANN control up until recently. It should not have been relinquished to international organizations but they're in the process of doing so. ICANN could quite simply, revoke the DNS registrations of any ISIS websites so they'd be inaccessible, such intervention would affect most if not all of the root DNS servers. The IP addresses would be even easier to block on an ISP level.
