Hovertank, First Generation

Postby Gear 1 » Sun Dec 13, 2015 12:46 am

Image

The experimental hovertank that is undergoing military testing in GEAR 1 is based on combining microfusion powerplant technology with advancements in hoverlift systems and electric drive turbines. Based on a standard military tank hull, the improvements allowed for addition of a UWS universal air defense and antiarmor missile system installation (4 cells), a close defense machine gun, and an experimental squeezebore weapon that forms kinetic energy penetrator darts out of ammalloy (ammunition alloy) discs stored in a central magazine. Over 150 ammalloy discs can be stored in the same volume as a typical tank loadout of 40-50 standard 120mm gun rounds, and the ammalloy is electrochemically stable since the weapon employs no explosives or chemical propellants. Four microfusion power cells provide up to three years' of continual power supply, stored aft of the hull in ejectable containers. The tank can operate fully on one or two cells, in the event of having to eject damaged components to prevent a localized meltdown or detonation.

The system also incorporates a fully integrated Helmet Information Command and Control System (HICCS), nicknamed the Thinking Cap by the test program tank crews. The system combines helmet immersive virtual reality inputs with multifunctional touch screen displays tied into the weapons, sensors, sights and communications. This permits the entire tank workload to be split between two crewmen, with one typically specialized as the pilot/driver and the other as the gunner/commander. Both crewmen can perform all functions in the tank from two identical control stations within the turret's Operators' Protective Cell, the space designed for crew survivability.

Your investment is gladly accepted. How would you like your first 5000 hovertanks painted?

(100,000,000 per copy development cost too much???)

OOC - I reckon around $100 million is about right, as it is a developing technology.

IC - We would like 100 units to test and modify (only with your permission, and I won't sell them).

OOC - About painting, is it okay if I do it myself? I am trying to learn line art making at the moment (my first try took me a week to complete: http://i.imgur.com/FxlZulm.jpg), and I would like some practice.

Security Escort Group Vehicles

Postby Gear 1 » Mon Dec 21, 2015 9:56 am

The GEAR 1 Auto Industry is pleased to introduce a selection of vehicles which are ideal for transporting your high profile dignitaries, executives and celebrities in armored comfort and safety. All of these models are in service with the elite Security Escort Group and close protection units of the FEDPOL, armed forces and regional police, as well as PMC's under Federation Warrant to operate in GEAR 1.

Gravesend Manufacturing / Burton Design Group "Gryphon" SUV, LWB and XWB Limo

The Gryphon started out as a civilian sport utility design but was modified by the SEG to high security standards. Outfitted with the highest available horsepower Inter-Global SSP police model powerplant, Gryphons are rolling armored fortresses. The basic SUV is used as a pilot or escort car, with LWB and XWB Limo units fitted with turrets and a single 7.62mm M240D MMG, 1000 rounds. LWB long wheelbase units are for security personnel and support staff, and the Extended Wheelbase Limo is for up to six persons, including the principal. Each vehicle fitted with a turret requires a driver and an assistant to operate the remote weapons control station.

The SEG Gryphon is being co-developed with the automotive industry of Arkisteran for the Arkisteran security forces.

All SEG Spec units are sealed against outside gas attack with an overpressure and oxygen system, armored passenger compartments and windows proofed against landmines, weapon calibers up to 20mm and laser-ablative coatings, with Kevlar-laced composite reinforced airless tires. While typically painted in an industry standardized Azurite Black, reformulated to SEG specs, any color may be ordered.

Official Military Communication
Officium Militare Communicum

Greetings! Ave!

Though it has been some time, I trust the representatives and factories of the Federation of GEAR 1 will gladly welcome the opportunity to continue to equip the Imperium Militare yes? So far all hardware has held up to the rigors of combat, something which the troops are grateful for. I will be breaking down this order memo into three parts, one for each branch of the Militare.

Adeptus Terram:

-GHX-1 Hover Tank, x25 units painted in OD Green. Letters "IMAT" in black and the word "Experimental" in bright yellow.

Adeptus Aerus:

-Theater Observation & Reconnaissance Unmanned System (TORUS), x10 units painted light grey. Letters "IMAA" painted on fuselage.
-Aeroteq JetMaster J225-100, x225 units painted in dark grey. Letters "IMAA" painted on fuselage.
-Aeroteq J100 SkyBlazer, x80 units painted in dark grey. Letters "IMAA" painted on fuselage.

Adeptus Classis:

-GHX-2 Hover APC, x30 units half painted in naval camouflage and light grey. Letters "IMAC". Word "Experimental" in bright yellow.

WIP Lancette TBM (Railroad Launcher)

Postby Gear 1 » Wed Dec 23, 2015 9:17 am

A recent work in progress inspired by the Cold War Minuteman III (MX) Rail Garrison system...

The GEAR 1 Strategic Forces needed a way to deploy theater ballistic missiles rapidly into areas of the frontier where limited military bases existed, in order to cover operational forces and provide a significant deterrent to enemy invasion. It was decided to make a supply of Lancette theater ballistic missiles rail-mobile, since most of the frontier areas were already served by military rail services that supplied the frontier outposts, wildcatter villages and regional garrisons.

The Lancette multi-stage, thermo-chemically stabilized solid fuel TBM was mated to an existing Habbins XFC covered flatcar, along with the erector gantry and associated equipment. Separate modified boxcars with security, maintenance and launch control personnel would travel with up to four gantry cars (8 total missiles). Each modified Habbins XFC is capable of launching two missiles simultaneously and self-deploys stabilizing legs when a launch sequence is initiated. The Lancette TBM is rated for a range of 3,000 miles using a suborbital parabolic attack profile, and carries six GPS and Inertial self-guided MIRV hydrogen or neutron weapons with nominal yields of 2.5-5.0 MT.

The beauty of the system is that at any time, 24 hours a day, consists of cars disguised as civilian units are travelling around the GEAR 1 railway network, and the rail companies moving them don't even know what they are, since the registry numbers are matched up to databases in the Federal Railroad Administration, and false routings are determined by the FRA in order to keep the rail garrison consists moving randomly. When the units require heavy shop maintenance, they route to a military railroad shop at an interior base, or to a trusted military contractor's shop where work can be performed.

Although it hasn't been officially tested yet, rumors float that the Habbins XFC design is stable enough to perform a shoot-on-the-move launch of one missile at a time.

Ave! And Greetings to the Imperium!

Many thanks from our Federation Government for your recent order!

We have completed engineering drawings of the requested equipment to your specifications, and will work out details for final deliveries over the coming days.

Currently, our hover vehicle development is quite costly, as the research and development costs are at a point where covering them amounts to about 100,000,000 GUC (50 million NS$) per delivered unit. Also, due to an incomplete testing program for compatibility with our current tactical and strategic airlift assets, we can only deliver hover vehicles by sea transport to our international allies. We hope that this arrangement can be agreeable.

I have instructed the primary contractors and subcontractors to submit per unit delivered costs, to include associated TMDE (Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment), training of local personnel by qualified GEAR 1 crew and maintenance trainers, and initial technical support from our industrial partners.

Also, as deliveries of the aircraft begin, so that your Air Force and Air Defense aren't confused, we have modified some chartered JC-1A PowerLifter military transports with local markings. These aircraft will ferry in ground support equipment and return our Aeroteq ferry pilots as the JetMaster and SkyBlazer aircraft begin arriving in-country.

Please stay tuned - more communications to follow.

For the Federation,

Mme. Kelsey Williams, Cabinet Designate
Department of State, The Sovereign Federation of GEAR 1

As a result of the increasing border tensions between my nation and our neighbor, we would like to Aquire 400x JC-1A lifter aircraft. We can mark it ourselves (OOC I'll use the image you made me). We would also like to inquire as to if the AEW plane you have assigned to GEAR 1 Air Force's 551 AEW Squadron, is available to buy, as our early warning systems are out of date. If they are available, we would like to order 50x.

Thank you for contacting us about the purchase of the Aeroteq JC-1A PowerLifter tactical military transport and the ComJet EC-121A Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft. We understand that your defensive situation requires an immediate response.

Due to your strong relationship with our government, the Chief Executive has authorized the following emergency measures to complete your purchase:

1) 50 (fifty) ComJet model 121 airliners under contract to the Air Force for conversion to EC-121A AEW aircraft will be completed immediately for transfer to the Arkisteran Luftwaffe. These aircraft will be diverted from an existing military contract, so deliveries will be ongoing for the next six months at a delivery rate of 8-10 aircraft per month. Each aircraft as converted with radar systems, ground equipment and training support, amount to 60 million GUC or 30 million NS$ per delivered aircraft.

ComJet EC-121A Airborne Early Warning (Click to download)

2) An emergency wet lease contract is being drawn up to deploy 24 GEAR 1 Air Force EC-121A AEW planes and air crews/maintenance personnel, and ground equipment from the 579th Reserve Aircraft Wing (AEW&C). These aircraft will fly under dual GEAR 1 and Arkisteran markings by your crews and our flight instructors on national defense missions. The monthly cost of the wet lease will be 10,000 GUC per aircraft (240,000 GUC or 120,000 NS$) per month until your order is deployed from the ComJet factories, at which time the wet leased airframes will be ferried back to our Air Force maintenance centers.

3) 400 (four hundred) Aeroteq JC-1A PowerLifters under contract to the Air Force will be completed immediately for transfer to the Arkisteran Luftwaffe. These aircraft will be diverted from an existing military contract, so deliveries will be ongoing for the next twenty months at a delivery rate of 20 aircraft per month. Each aircraft as configured with navigation systems, tactical communications, glass cockpits, ground equipment and training support, amount to 10 million GUC or 5 million NS$ per delivered aircraft. 800 Air Force surplus jet engine sets will also be included in the military aid package as spares at no additional cost to your government.

4) An emergency wet lease contract is being drawn up to deploy 100 GEAR 1 Air Force JC-1A planes and air crews/maintenance personnel, and ground equipment from the 787th, 788th, 789th and 790th Reserve Airlift Wings (Expeditionary). These aircraft will fly under dual GEAR 1 and Arkisteran markings by your crews and our flight instructors on national defense missions. The monthly cost of the wet lease will be 10,000 GUC per aircraft (4,000,000 GUC or 2,000,000 NS$) per month until your order is deployed from the Aeroteq factories, at which time the wet leased airframes will be ferried back to our Air Force maintenance centers. If the Air Force approves the initial operating certificate of the lengthened and upgraded JC-1B Glass Cockpit "Stretch" variant, these aircraft will be new-built to fill the contract instead of JC-1A and the Federation will absorb the price difference as a token of good faith and foreign military aid.

Works in progress related to my M2/M3 Alligator inspired Mobile Assault Bridging system employed by the United States (USAREUR), West Germany, and United Kingdom, even as late as Operation Iraqi Freedom, where Royal Engineers Alligator units ferried combat equipment across the Tigris and Euphrates in support of operations.

Capable of linking together two or three vehicles to make self-propelled assault crossing ferries for main battle tanks, or as long strings to make tactical pontoon bridges, the Alligator is a 4x4 self-propelled, self-launching vehicle. It can also be used singly as a lighter.

Combat Assault Bridge companies of the US Army in the 70's to 90's operated two MAB platoons each with 12 Alligators, with the third tactical AVLB platoon equipped with four M60 AVLB's and six scissors bridges (as per Table of Organization & Equipment 5-148H7 (H Series Army of Excellence), assigned to Armored and Mechanized Infantry Divisional Engineer Battalions). Each Alligator could unfold its side pontoons and be rigged into ferries by a three-soldier crew over just a few minutes. Three Alligators connected made a ferry, so the company could make 4 ferries or up to 400+ meters of continuous bridging with organic assets.

Since official dimensions are lacking, this is the best I can do with proportions from images and my ROCO MINITANKS models until I find specs from the web. (The German company that made these in real life was bought by General Dynamics Land Systems Europe and subsequently went under, so the OEM websites are all cold and dead.)

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS - I AM WORKING ON CORRECTLY DRAWN BACK SIDES / MIRROR SIDES THAT WOULD SHOW THE REAR OF THE ALLIGATOR AND ITS CONTROL CONSOLE WITH AN OPERATOR.

However, enjoy the in progress stuff. The shape is approximately similar to a LARC V 5-ton amphibian lighter, so I figure my next project would be to draw those to replace the DUKW.
