By protecting the rights of Russians in Crimea.
By bringing a resolution to the wars in the Caucasus.
By introducing democratic elections.
By restoring basic state provisions like education, healthcare and pensions that were threatened in the chaos of the 90s
By safeguarding Russian culture
How does he not promote civil rights?

Good thing i never factored you in on what i stand for and against.
If i did, id say "Edgy white teenagers" in my sig.

Only one of those are "civil rights", and that one is debated today - the part about Crimea. The rest are not under the tent of civil rights.
So no, I haven't seen any proper proof that he's defended human rights in Russia, but that's not the point of this thread.

Debated by who? Do you somehow doubt that the Russian government is going to protect the rights of Russians in Crimea?
I'd say that bringing about peace, democracy and a stable government are very important if people are to avoid discrimination and repression, which is a pretty fundamental part of civil rights.

Neither did I, heck, I didn't even know that Putin danced ballet! But if you want to speak about democratic referendums, why not hold one, six months from now, in Crimea, on either joining Russia, becoming independent, or joining Ukraine. All UN members must recognize the result
But we both know you don't want that to happen. You're in this for revenge.

Now that i think of it.
I already got my revenge, the soviet union rotted from the inside out and left Russia in a weakened state.
and it still is, desperate to hold influence and annexing territory of weaker former soviet nations, depriving LBGT Russians civil liberties....
Thank you shof, for showing me i longer need revenge. I already got it.

No, it's the standard response when the topic being discussed literally has nothing to do with the damned title on top of the thread, near the top of the page. You hearing this a second time should be telling you something.
Shofercia wrote:Chossudovsky wrote:
Quite right, this is a thread for actual issues, not imaginary "restrictive laws" that you've heard about on Fox or CNN.
Those are actual issues. However, this is the thread for Russia's actions in Syria/the Middle East.
And the thing is, you won't win a debate on Putin and Civil Rights here, because although he have bandwagoners, whom you'll probably defeat, we also have genuine Civil Rights supporters, like Geilinor and Risotia, who know their stuff inside and out, and would cream you.

The Eurasian union and whatever Russia is doing will never compare to NATO, the EU or any other Organization that the west has.

GDP of the EU/US: $36 trillion
GDP of the SCO: $32 trillion
Numbers according to the World Bank, with the purchasing power parity ratio factored in. Oh, you meant the Eurasian Union, the organization that in its infancy. Yes, organizations that haven't had time to develop are generally outperformed by those that had time to develop.

What else is the Eurasian union going to do? Have more Poor nations in it?
The EU has some of the richest nations on earth, what can Russia and its gang of the Former USSR possibly do?

Since you're being so damn annoying, roughly 90% of the cases that the ECHR decides against Russia show exactly where Russia needs improvement in the area of Civil Rights. And for the record, I only supported Russia leaving the ECHR after Russia's CoE membership was threatened. If the CoE was to pass a law stating that no members can be suspended without unanimous consent of all other members, I'd favor Russia returning under the wing of the ECHR.
