Trade unions were outlawed when the Comecon imploded and our nation joined the Organization for Economic Development in Europe. Trade unions are a relic of the socialist past we want to leave behind.

Trade Unions play an important role in making economic policy in Greater Mackonia, one union is chosen to represent all workers of a profession and said union may report to the Corporative Councils in relation to affairs of its sector to represent the workers. A national trade union exists, the Greater Mackonia Unified Trade Syndicate, which represents all workers at the Grand Council of Industry and Economic Affairs which decides general industrial policy. Unions are thus given an equal platform to negotiate with the bosses on with the oversight of the Seventh Sector, wages, working hours and the like are all settled via dialogue between bosses and workers at these meetings.

However in return for this recognition, unions are heavily restricted. No unions but those recognised by the Seventh Sector are considered legitimate organisations and may be disbanded by whatever means the employer chooses.Union bosses are appointed by the Seventh Sector. Unapproved strikes are outlawed, unions are legally obliged to accept the rulings of the Corporative Councils and the Seventh Sector frequently favour the employers.

Trade Unions

Postby Living Stones » Sat May 30, 2015 1:01 pm

Trade unions are unheard of in Living Stones. There is no real need for them as wages are based on need, numerous and strict regulations ensure a safe working environment, & social stratification is illegal. If they would ever appear they would likely be banned, as oaths &large scale organized secrecy are strictly illegal, while disobedience to authority is almost always illegal.

What is the situation of trade unions in your nations? Atlantican workers are incredibly well-organised. Almost everyone is organised and sit-down strikes, secondary strikes, mass picketing, etc., is both legal and is often used for strikes.

Are they legal? Yes.

How many people are organized in Trade Unions? Approximately 98% of employed workers.

What rights do they have? Trade unions have a large number of rights. Sit-down strikes, sympathy strikes, mass picketing, closed shops/post-entry closed shops are all legal, unlike in some other countries. Additionally, all forms of union busting are strictly illegal and usually result in heavy fines, or sometimes even prison time.

Are they connected to political parties/organizations? Four out of the five major trade union federations are connected with political parties. it should be stated, however, that both the trade unions and political parties are mostly independent of each other, although political parties and trade union centres almost always have the same membership and both the Socialists and the Communists and their affiliated trade unions centres hold joint International Workers' Day rallies.

Which is the biggest trade union? The largest trade union federation is the Atlantican Federation of Labour, while the largest trade union is the Oil Workers' Union, which alone represents over 8% of the population, although there are a large number of other, smaller trade unions, hence the very high union density of Atlantican workers.

Are the trade unions connected with each other? Almost all trade unions are affiliated with another trade

What is the situation of trade unions in your nations?

Are they legal? Yes

How many people are organized in Trade Unions?

In the building trade, most people, 95%+. In other trades, anywhere from about 60% to almost noone.

What rights do they have?

They can talk to management, suggest things, help their members, organize go-slows, and within strict limits go on strike. There are two rules with strikes to make them legal. One is no violence/theft against people and property. The other is that those not responsible for the low pay/other problem must not be bothered. Because others apart from the bosses/foremen are not deemed under the law to be bothered by building strikes, the Building Union is very powerful. In most other cases, strikes are banned as they effect the general public who are not themselves responsible for whatever the workers are striking over, and those who strike can face prison or even the whip.

They use ways legal, semi legal and downright illegal to help their members, from talking about things and grants or loans of money to members on hard times, through go-slows and sickies and *accidently* all turning up late at the same time, to illegal things that would not be out of place on Cybertron. Bad bosses have been sent a bullet in the post, and know that hiring bodyguards long term will be much more expensive then paying workers a decent wage.

Are they connected to political parties/organizations? Yes, to the Communists and the Old Labour Party, and a few to the New Labour Party.

Which is the biggest trade union? The Building Union

Are the trade unions connected with each other? Yes

Trade unions are entirely illegal, being viewed both as a tool of international communism and as an affront to a properly organised and hierarchical society. There do exist a number of clandestine workers organisations, particularly amongst immigrant labourers, but strikes are usually broken by force. Leaders of workers groups are liable to execution, while strikers are often interned in 'Penal monasteries' (read, labour and reeducation camps)run by the OMB, the paramilitary order of militant Buddhists.

The Vrree Nations use the syndicate system. With Vrree syndicates, the company and the union are essentially the same thing. All employees have an equal vote in how their syndicate is run, and all employees share the syndicate's profits equally (or an equal flat wage if the syndicate runs a deficit). While most syndicates do have managers to handle everyday executive decisions, they receive no special treatment in terms of pay grade etc. Labour unions as distinct entities are therefore unnecessary and unheard-of.

What is the situation of trade unions in your nations? Trade unions are a very active, prominent part of the economy and the industrial sector. Also vital are the labor or workers' cooperatives, especially in the agricultural sector, where the farmers tend to prefer co-operative to personal ownership of farmland. Approximately 89% of all arable land is co-operatively held, by far the largest segment of the agriculture industry. Trade unions, however, tend to predominate in the manufacturing sector, with the services sector more evenly divided between unions and co-operatives.

Are they legal? Yes, trade unions are a respected and protected part of the economy and the labor-management relations in Garzan society. The right to independent trade unions is protected by the Constitution and laws of the Restored Kingdom of Free Garza. Recent legislation, in fact, has guaranteed the secret ballot on the subject of unionization of shops, so as to prevent managerial intimidation and retaliation against organizers and workers.

How many people are organized in Trade Unions?

Out of the population of 36,000,000 people, some 12,000,000 or so are organized into trade unions. It is a sizable voting bloc and a considerable portion of this favors either the Social Democratic or the Communist parties.

What rights do they have?

Trade unions and unionized workers have the right to organize, to strike, to engage in collective bargaining, to engage in class-action litigation, and to hold elections by secret ballot to determine the issue of unionization for unorganized shops and workers.

Are they connected to political parties/organizations?

Typically, the General Confederation of Labor and the National Congress of Workers are affiliated with the leftist parties, with the larger, former group being associated with the Social Democratic Party, while the latter, smaller, more radical organization is connected to the Communist Party.

Which is the biggest trade union?

The General Confederation of Labor has an estimated 8.2 million members, compared to 3.8 million in the National Congress of Workers. Nearly all trade unions are affiliated with one or both organizations.

Are the trade unions connected with each other?

Practically all trade unions are confederated into one or both of the major trade union organizations, whether the General Confederation of Labor or the National Congress of Workers.

Trade Unions are illegal unless founded, regulated and managed by the state. Of which there are roughly two or three designed around supporting the Industrious Southerner; whereas anything else is catering to Marxist, Populist or Republican Sentiments.

The Whigs, Federalists, Freedom Party & "New South" parties all have varying views on the matter; most of which seem to contribute to the massive, boiling pot of contention that was the 1917 official outlawing of the "Confederate National Laborer's Party" due to an Act voted upon by the Confederate House of Burgess's due to emerging evidence of the CNLP's funding of Congaree Lincolnian-Marxists in the Louisiana Bayou & Mississippi swamplands.

Suffice it to say, the eye of the law is upon said "Unions".
