Tarrentum Falcons Sporting News

Ventili, Meddicia - The Falcons proved once again why they are a force to be reckoned with as they took down The Fanboyists 5 - 3 in yesterdays game. The ballpark was electric as the Protectorate President was on hand to witness this premier game. Though a few fans [censored by Tarrentum National Press Committee].

The Falcons started the game with young phenom Fironte Sareb on the mound to face The Fanboyists team. Sareb is just coming off a dominating Keisler Cup tournament where he went 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA. The Falcons rallied behind their young pitcher and Sareb gave the team six scoreless innings before giving up a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh. He was taken out later in that inning after giving up two doubles (and 2 runs in the inning). With one man on, Tiberius Wavi called for Alberto Trevino (who has been seeing a lot of action this tournament in preparation for the World Baseball Classic). Though Trevino gave up an RBI single to the first batter he faced, he was able to strikeout the next batter to end the inning.

Tarrentum and The Fanboyists kept the score tied until the top of the ninth when, with pinch hitter Valerio Utteroni on first and two outs, Dessea Vallena smacked her fourth homerun of the tournament (and second of the game) into the left field stands to pull the Falcons ahead 5 - 3. With a dominant save by Francisco Azzri, who's daughter Samantha, part of the U-21 national team, was on hand to watch her father, the Falcons sealed the game and moved into a three-way tie for first in the Valley Pool with Tarburr and Iron Coast.

The tournament as a whole has been going well. Not many international reports have been seen in the newspapers here in Tarrentum or Meddicia so it's hard to know how the inaugural tournament is being received in the worldwide community. Most of Tarrentian officials, including TSC Chairman Hielo Brottami, believe that the tournament is going on very well. Only a few wandering gypsies have bothered tourists and they have been dealt with swiftly by the vigilant police.

The Falcons take on St. Epero in the next game later today.

Hammerheads avenge loss by tking down group leader

Postby Iron Coast (Ancient) » Fri Jun 25, 2010 10:32 am

Tarrentum (GP)- The Iron Coast Hammerheads avenged a disappointing loss to Tarrentum yesterday by defeating group leader Tarburr 5-4. Tobin Baerga pitched a no-hitter into the 7th, in which time his Hammerheads scored five runs, including homers by Leo Bradkov and Mako Handovic. Baerga then handed the ball over to Brody Groskov, who promptly gave up 4 runs in the 9th before striking out the final batter to seal the win.

Tarburr Playing Well Despite Tough Loss to Iron Coast

Tarrentum - The Tarburr Platypuses have been outplaying expectations in the Tarrentian IBRRT, and even thought it's last game ended in a close loss the team is still in an excellent position to move forward in the tournament. Early victories were earned on the bat's of the Tarburr squad, which has proven to be an offensive powerhouse thus far in the tournament. With a total of 24 runs in it's first three games, Tarburr looked to be unstoppable in the batters box.

Then they met Tobin Baerga of the Iron Coast Hammerheads. Baerga was able to confound the Platypuses with a variety of pitches through 7 innings of play. The only scare during that time was a blast to left center by Ricky Danner which fell just short of the wall, and into the glove of Tori Bavelski, who made an amazing catch. In the meantime, Harmond Rand was struggling against the Hammerheads, who feasted on his off-speed pitches. He was pulled in the 7th after giving up 3 runs in that inning, including a long-ball to Mako Handovic that scored two runs.

The 8th inning was a short one, but showed signs that Tarburr was still alive in the game. Tarburr finally managed to find their offense again, connecting on 3 singles that loaded the bases with one out. Bradley Bohm came to the plate, but was forced into a double play to end the inning.

The 9th inning seemed to be a different game altogether. Reliever Aaron Ayers continued his strong effort, striking out two batters and forcing a fly out to the fourth batter after walking the third. Then the top of Tarburr's lineup came to the plate, facing Hammerhead's reliever Brody Groskov. Faman Broussa recorded an RBI with a rare triple that scored Trey Roberts. A walk put Time Leguire on 1st base, and Danner drove both in with a deep drive that bounced off the left field wall. Danner advanced to third when Kenny Farris hit a long fly ball to right field, which produced the first out. Dale Vay then allowed Danner to score with another sacrifice fly. The next batter, Wilson Mauer put two balls across the left field wall, but both went foul. The next pitch was a changeup that he missed entirely, ending the game.

"I have to hand it to their pitcher, Bagra, or Baerga I think," Pops Pollard told reporters after the game. "He pitched one hell of a game, and we just couldn't get anything going against him until it was almost too late. We gave it a good effort, but tonight just wasn't our night." Sources close to the clubhouse have hinted that Pollard gave his team quite a verbal lashing in the locker room, and vowed to 'show them curveballs and changeups until they can't see straight' at the next batting practice.

Despite the loss, Tarburr is playing well above all expectations. Most analysts predicted that the Platypuses would be last place in their group for the duration of the tournament due to a lack of experience in international play and a host of young players who would not be consistent on offense.

OOC: Today is the second to last day of Pool-stage games!

TSPNN.com TIBRRT Analysis

The Tarrentian International Baseball Round Robin Tournament has been a huge success for the nations of Tarrentum and Meddicia so far. The number of tourists from the 4RUM region and from around the world have made this a huge boon to business. Even the uprising in Meddicia has done little to interfer with the games being played in Ventili Ballpark. McSquiggies has posted End of Week numbers showing a 85% rise in business during the tournament and, on the day of the announcement that Tarrentum will be hosting next year's Keisler Cup, the ticket-marketing site, ScalpHouse.com, actually crashed. It is safe to say that organizers are looking ahead to next year to plan an even better TIBRRT. So what are the pros and cons of this, our nation's first international tournament?

Pros
  • Newcomers to International Baseball - The emergence of new nations to the world baseball stage can only help further the appeal of the World Baseball Classic. Nations such as Tarburr, Iron Coast and Pretty Awesome Persons have fared very well in the Pool Stage of competition with Tarburr posed, with two more decisive wins, to be playing in the 1st Place Game against a strong looking Tolietdonia (with a win today), Mantwenic or Pretty Awesome Persons.
  • Smooth Operation - The uprising in Meddicia has done little to dampen travel and attendance numbers at the games being played in Ventili Ballpark. Numbers have been close to selling-out the stadium in recent games as fans have come around to Tarrentum's side. Also, games in parts of Tarrentum have been well received by the traveling fans, the local populace and the ball players themselves. Nothing has crept up in the international news wires about incidents occuring at the games held during this tournament and all of that can be credited to Tarrentum's Finest.
  • International Exposure - Tarrentum would never have reached an agreement with Newmanistan to continue hosting the Keisler Cup if they had not shown that they could handle an international sports tournament. With the unfortunate departure of the Newmanistan from the world sporting scene, Tarrentum looks poised to begin their life in the world's spotlight with flying colors.
  • Players Welcome Tune-Up - Though not hearing from all team's, reporters in Tarrentum have heard from Tarrentum's own players and the response to the tournament has been two thumbs up. The players are welcoming this opportunity to work on their teamwork and international play, even in the midst of the ASML's second season. Also, new players to the Falcons roster, most notably pitchers Alberto Trevino and Johnny Burtoni.

Cons
  • Tiberr-Who? - They has been little to no posted news stories from a majority of the teams taking part in the TIBRRT. Though we at TSPNN will always cover all of the international baseball games played by the Falcons we have to look at both sides of why there is a lack of stories. Mainly, it's an inaugural tournament that is not high on many people's radars. There are no Top-Ten teams in the World Rankings competiting in the TIBRRT and therefore, the need for news stories is not very big. While powerhouse Yafor 2 is participating, she has sent her B-Squad to Tarrentum and has yet to submit one news blurb on their progress (which isn't inspiring). The other side of the coin is that there are a lot of new nations here that maybe don't have the wherewithall to send both a team and a reporter - but this argument is as weak as my grandmother.

Though I don't mean to downplay the cons, there is only one I can think of. This has been a great tournament and these last three days look to be very exciting.

Tolietdonia is close to clinching their appearance in the 1st Place Game with a win today over Auremena. Tarburr and Tarrentum cannot fail in one of their last two games to make it into the same game. Becuase both need to win outright, the winner of the Valley Pool will be determined by Total Runs Scored where the two neighboring nations are also tied (at 28 apiece). This only goes in Tarburr's favor as they beat the Falcons and therefore top them in the standings becuase of their H2H record. Tarrentum needs to win out and win big to make it to the 1st Place Game. The second spot in the Imperium Pool is a toss up between Mantwenic and P.A.P. The great thing about tese two teams is that they play each other today. The winner could well be on their way to an appearance in the 3rd Place Game while the loser will be just that, a loser with nothing to show for their trip to Tarrentum.

So stay tuned to your TV or go to your local pub or McSquiggies which will be televising the remaining games of the Pool stage at all of their many locations.

Tarrentum Falcons Sporting News

The Falcons dominated the Platypuses from Tarburr with an easy 6 - 2 win over their neighbors. The Falcons were led offensively with homeruns from Trego Saronna and Dessea Vallena (2). Vallena's solo in the fifth and 2-run homerun in the seventh inning sealed the victory for the Falcons who advanced to 5-1 in the Pool stage and look set to take part in tomorrow's first place game against hated Tolietdonia, who clinched the Imperium Pool with a win over Auremena.

Before the Falcons can get on to the championship game, they must face scrappy Yafor 2. The B-Squad sent by the Yaforites have failed to impress anyone here in Tarrentum. Most baseball analysts and fans alike agree that, if this is the Yaforite's secondary national squad, then the LAZY league, long held as the international standard, cannot be that premier of a league afterall. Economic forecasters in Tarrentum have predicted that, while the money may be there in Yafor 2, players from the ASML are less likely to try and jump into that league after the play of this team. This can only mean good things for the ASML as it looks towards it's continued expansion internationally.

So be sure to stay tuned and drive out to Ventili tonight for the last game of Pool stage competition.

Tarburr Sports Magazine

Tarburr Falls to Tarrentum, Still Has a Chance for 3rd Place

Tarrentum - The Tarburr Platypusses were soundly beaten for the first time in the tournament by the host team Tarrentum Falcons. The first meeting between these two squads was a surprising game in which Tarburr dominated and showed the international community that the Platypusses were not the pushovers they were expected to be. This time around, however, the Falcons avenged their only loss of the tournament. That left Tarburr in a tough spot - win or go home against the Fanboyists, a good team that had had a rough tournament and was looking to end on a high note.

The first inning started off well for Tarburr as Ricky Danner hit yet another longball, this time bringing Faman Broussa in with him for a 2-0 lead. After that, the game seemed to go in auto-pilot. Both teams recorded the occasional hit, but there was never a real threat of any scoring until late in the game when the Fanboyists began to connect against relief pitcher Castro Covier. He managed to minimize the damage by forcing a double play to end the 8th inning, but the score was now 2-1 in Tarburr's favor.

The final inning of the game proved to be one of the best of the tournament. The Fanboyists came out strong, taking Covier to school for 4 hits and two runs scored. The inning finally came to an end when Kenny Farris made an amazing diving catch in shallow left-center. This left Tarburr trailing by 1 run. Even more troubling was the fact that Trey Roberts had to leave the game with a tweaked hamstring.

Gerald Brake filled in for Roberts. The best option would have been Tommy O'Donnel, but the 28 year old was forced to sit the game out for violating unspecified team rules. Nonetheless, Brake proved his worth by dropping a blooper just behind the second baseman to get to first base. Faman Broussa struck out on a rare no-swing, and Tim Legiure's high pop-up to right field sent him to the dugout. Once again, Ricky Danner came though, belting a hard shot down right-center that bounced off the wall, scoring Brake and leaving him standing at second base.

Kenny Farris came to the batters box and had an 11 pitch, 9 foul ball battle. Finally he connected on a hard ground ball that hugged the right field line and managed to stay fair. The shot rolled into the deep right field corner and Danner easily beat the throw home for a thrilling come from behind win.

Tarburr is now sitting in second place in the Valley Pool of the TIRRBT. Though tied with Iron Coast, who beat Tarburr earlier in the tournament, the tiebreaker is based on runs scored and that gave the Platypusses the edge. They face a resilient Mantwenic team in the match which will determine 3rd place in the tournament.

Overall, Tarburr has play well beyond all expectations. Their success has been fueled by a surprisingly potent offense that scored 34 runs over the course of 7 games. Most experts predicted that the Tarburrite players would struggle against world class pitching, but that was not the case. Ricky Danner has been the MVP of the squad without a doubt driving in or scoring half of the runs for Tarburr, and may even have a shot at earning tournament honors. His performance against Mantwenic will be a key factor in the outcome of the game.

"I just come out and play hard every game," Danner told reporters after the last game. "There are a lot of good players in Tarburr, but not many people notice. Now we have a chance to prove that we do belong in the international baseball scene, and I can promise you that every player we have is going to give everything they have. We came in here believing that we had a chance to play well and have a strong finish despite our doubters. Now we have a chance to finish in the top three, and I can assure you that we will do everything we can to make that happen."

Tarburr was projected to finish last in it's pool.

From 0-2 to third place match!

The disappointing 0-2 start from Mantwenic is what has kept them out of the final game. After poor starts from Bill Lyons and Brad Starr on the mound the team suffered a 4-0 loss to Pretty Awesome Persons and the next game suffered a 7-5 loss to Churchma. Fortunately in the third game vs. Auremena, we were able to slide past them 9-8. In the fourth game against Silver Beach, Mantwenic was able to score both of their runs in the eighth and ninth innings after Eddie Powell allowed only one run in the seventh. Game five was won 5-2 by a two run shot in the first by Edgardo Poff and again in the third when Greg Ledesma went deep for a home run. On the mound Patrick Holman threw a solid game allowing only two runs. In game six it was time for Bill Lyons to prove himself from the embarrassing 4-0 loss to PAP. He did just that with a 10-5 victory With help of multi-run innings in the second, third and fifth to beat PAP. In the seventh game, Mantwenic cruised to a 3-1 win over Tolietdonia, thanks to superb pitching from Brad Starr to keep Tolietdonia to one run. The team to beat in this third place game is the surprising Tarburr. Unranked going into this tournament but going 5-2 with losses from The Iron Coast and the host, Tarrentum. A big challenge for Mantwenic as we have made it to our first third place game in the history of Mantwenic Sports. Can Greg Fahr, the impressive 23 year old secure the win for third place? or will Tarburr be the perfect cinderella team and secure third place?

Tarrentum Falcons Sporting News

Napoliroma, Tarrentum, Tarrentum - After the National team's stay in Meddicia, the whole contingent completed the 8 hour trip last night and are finally back in their very friendly confines. Now the Falcons prepare today for tonight's game against rival Tolietdonia for the right to be crowned Inaugural TIBRRT Champions!
Image
Tarrentum had a hard road, losing in the first game against regional diplomatic power Tarburr and barely surviving contests against Yafor 2 (4-3, G2) and The Fanboyists (5-3, Top 9th win, G4) to take the cake in the Valley Pool. Tarrentum was threatened in the standings most of the way by Tarburr and Iron Coast as both newcomers put up the Wins and the Runs to force constant TRS tie-breakers. However, this team, led by secondbasewoman Dessea Vallena (pictured covering Second Base for the national team, right) showed true Tarrentian determination and refused to yield. The women of this team, and those playing in the ASML, have really gone a long way to change my opinion of women in professional baseball. Vallena has become the dominant superstar and the face of Tarrentian baseball. Her homeruns and hitting prowess are impressive for anyone at her position. The beautiful Juliana Italiana has been a dominant pitcher in the ASML and in international play, making hitters twice her size (and weight) look foolish at the plate. We need to have more women in the ranks of professional sports throughout the world.

Not to be left out of the discussion of dominant female players for Tarrentum is Liona Marrada (shown pitching with the Krozuy Falcons her ASML squad, left).
Image
Marrada came up after Italiana to the ASML but has become a dominant pitcher nonetheless. While a starter in the ASML, Marrada has pitched superbly for the National Team in the Middle Reliever spot. Her quick pace and devastating changeup pitches are always a good change of pace, even if they are a bit incongruous. The Falcons should continue opening up spots to their female domestic league players. Not becuase they are women but becuase they have showed that they too can play with "the big boys" - and win.

For the upcoming game against hated rival Tolietdonia manager Tiberius Wavi has stated that he will bring everything to bear on the Loo-Boys and win one for Tarrentum. Everyone knows that Tarrentum has had horrible luck against any Tolietdonia team, in any sport. Whether by their poor performance in the Tolietdonia International Football Tournament, playing Tolietdonia in the World Cup and through general misgivings about the professionality of their players, Tarrentum has had poor success against the "stinky" nation (hey, they said it, not us). This game should be the Falcons first real test against World Baseball Classic competition as Yafor 2 only sent their B-Squad to the TIBRRT.

Be sure to show up early tonight to Imperium Stadium (which is rumored to have some drastic renovations coming soon) to watch the Falcons take on the Looiphiles. Also, be sure to catch the day game between Tarburr and Mantwenic for some good family fun.

Well how can I explain how it feels to be dumped from the team. I feel hard done by and annoyed. After the defeat coach say's he will be playing a team of sheep because they can't get the money to pay us for a small tournament. So my time on the field has come to an end and instead. Sheep! Oh well here is my match report from my point of view.

200
100

The first three innings started with some advice from the skipper

"Make sure you hit the balls hard."

We then took his advice after Mantwenic smashed us for two runs damn it. it wasn't the best of pitching I've ever seen anyway. Then it was our turn. I was third into bat and they pitched it. The pitcher had already struck-out one and caught the other. I took a swing and they got me. I then took another and it was hit far. I managed to get two bases before the next guy was in. He hit a single and the next guy was out. SO our last chance was with this guy. Jancotta a pitcher. he hit it and I was run in for a single. That was our only run the rest of those innings were event-less with pitchers adding to their already impressive resume.

The next three started with the coach trying to fire us up.

"They are flippin beatable and if you don't beat them I will beat you!"

We tried our best but no runs were scored for either team. I made a decent catch and Jancotta got two strike-outs which was great. I got a triple in the 5th Innings but the next guy blew it which sucked. Already we were sensing that this could end in disappointment for us so skipper said as it came to a close
"Were still in it so fight the god damn fight!"
Good words but we still struggled in the 6th innings. Really we all screwed up so sorry but have faith yet please.

The final few innings started with wise words;

"Enjoy it. Play as good as you can. It is down to you now."

These were the best spoken words all day and I still remember them clearly. Mantwenic had a good start with a home run but struggled to the end despite the lead. The 7th innings were bad for us and all three of the top batters were struck-out. We knew we would have to push to get anything out of it but then we always have to push anyway. The 8th innings was as dull as watch rocks getting worn away by the wind. Both sides were all out for all strikeouts so we both looked forward to the final innings. Sadly we came very close. Mantwenic didn't do very well at all and we knew it was all down to us now. Our first two batmen hit a double and a single then the next two guys were out. It was all down to me now. I hit it with all my strength and it looked to be going for a great home run. As I went round the bases I could already taste the champagne. Then it curved down. It was falling, falling was it going to make it? But no it was caught and we had lost. We haven't done our nation proud but we're still through.

So I was dropped for a team of sheep but that is life. That is Toiletdonia. I will be watching though from the nearest McSquiggies with a fat bag of chips and a burger. I hope that Toiletdonia can pull it off in the rivalry match with Tarrentum. Lets hope aggression doesn't spoil the match and that Toiletdonia can pull off a win!

Iron Coast has Strong Showing in International Baseball Debu

Postby Iron Coast (Ancient) » Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:14 am

Tarrentum (GP)- The Iron Coast Hammerheads barely missed out on reaching the 3rd place game, finishing third in their pool behind Tarburr on Run Differential. Pretty good for rookies, eh? Although itshoul be note that Taeburr was also making its debut, the Hammerheads still showed loads of promise, especially pitcher Drnzak Boydsrkov and slugging first baseman Mako Handovic. We hope for the continued succes of the Hammerheads in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Story by Ryne Federov
