I'm gonna have an "Allied Nations goes to war" parade in Maracaibo. It's gonna resemble this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Iu0pvZP-dM down one of the city's main streets.

Music in background is completely realistic and is in fact definitely the Soviet Anthem, which inspired Red Alert.

Fixed.

Also, to keep the railroads alive to get the troops to the front, in the absence of oil, we're gonna have to break out the museum pieces!

Sure 'bout that man? Better to keep that good lookin' beast in the museum. It may be powerful but the problem about bringing out things that are way old is the lack of parts (Look at Cuba's cars, they're Soviet vehicles no longer in production, so thusly, no parts. The people who possess the cars work pretty hard to keep the old machines going.) and the fact that its pretty damn delicate. Other than that, I think it can work fine somewhere deep in the country, way far from the frontlines.

Oh, we have 43 of the buggers! Plenty of parts! I only intend to field eight for military service. Ammo, troops, and railway artillery to the front. ACE will build a pontoon bridge across the strait to get the trains into the northern AN and into Sidonia. I'll get a rail/road map of the AN mainland up soon enough. I intend to install a scrubber system into the smokestack to cut down on pollution.

There is no way you would get a pontoon bridge across a straight..... to support trains....

You used my military anthem but whatever.

And yes, that's been my military anthem since October of last year.

That's just an example, it's not the music I'm using!

Anyway, I'm not using a pontoon, I'll erect a bailey bridge.

Between the AN and Sidonia? That's still very wide.

Please, guys. This little bridge won't hurt anyone. I'm not saying whether its realistic or not; this is just not worth arguing about. I'm sure its possible, but building it will take some time- right?

Out of curiosity, how deep is the strait? Is it deep enough for blue-water navy ships to pass through?

Just to be clear :

The St. Michael's Strait is thirty kilometers wide at it's longest span and ten kilometers at it's shortest. It is deep enough to have blue-water vessels sail through it and is one of, if not the, most important trade artery in the entire region. However, it is too shallow for submarines to cross.

It would be impossible to build a bridge across it because of it's length, the depth of the ocean, and the fact that SL airstrikes and cruise missiles would be hammering it on a daily basis.

In a sense, the St. Michael's Strait is about twice the size of the Strait of Gibraltar.

Actually, this "little" bridge would change the entire dynamic of the RP. Since the SL's strategy hinges on cutting the AN's supply lines, a magic bridge over which Clint could supply his armies would be godmod in every sense of the word.

But wouldn't such a bridge be incredibly vulnerable, considering its length? You said so yourself. So let him have his bridge if he really insists on it, and you can blow it up later. And we can move on... I'm working on my post, will get it up in the next day or two.

Can you make it an actual Google Doc so we can edit with each other, (like the negotiation)?

Also, I had an epiphany. On either side of the strait, we'll have a telescoping bridge piece. Obviously, these won't extend to each other. To supplement this, barges will be put in place with bridging mounted on them, lined up until each end of the pieces are connected to each other. Spikes'll be placed into the infrastructure to keep the wobbling down to a minimum (because waves).

*GRAND ENTRANCE*

Clint, as has been said already, your bridge is impossible. It is so for many reasons, including but not limited to the fact that you are trying to span a thirty-kilometer body of water with a non-rigid bridge of boats in order to carry entire trains. As much as I'd love for you to attempt this in canon (as you would annihilate much of your initial wave right off the bat), it shan't be the case.

First off, trains need rigid rails. If you cannot create a hard, flat (enough) surface to span the entire strait, trains simply could not move along the rails. Considering how waves would be causing your boat-supported contraption to rise, fall, twist and turn in every which way, it is illogical to assume that it would stay together at all- especially not in such a manner to support gigantic, heavy prime movers complete with cargo. The rails themselves might not even fit together for any appreciable amount of time.

Second, you must consider that building this "bridge" would require time to draft up plans, gather resources, fabricate the extendable sections, place them, secure them, move all of the little bridge-boats, secure them, lay and/or fit all of the rails, connect the bridge to proper, landlocked rail outlets, equip your trains and set them moving across the gap. This in and of itself would take weeks or months, and all of it would be during an active conflict. Naval battles would likely get in the way of your bridge-laying, and targeted strikes from subs, aircraft and other pesky cretins would foul it up as it was being made and possibly used. Even this means that the idea would be unusable by principle.

I actually do not think that I would need a third point. I've thoroughly disproven your boat-bridge, and now you should reconsider it entirely. Use naval and air transportation instead, as they are proven to work and much better in all regards despite being less flashy.

I did not realize 30 km was 18 miles.

Alright! New plan!

Since Corps need to get to the front, we're keeping the trains, with one small change.

The ACE will build a railway spur leading to a capable beachhead. There, a semi-temporary ferry slip will be installed within two weeks. The military service Challengers will have been equipped with new parts, and pollution scrubbers, plus extra plating on vulnerable areas. They will be at the Cabimas Intermodal Railway Yard two days before the slip is operational. Meanwhile, a sizable barge will have been modified with rails upon it to make a train ferry in the Naval Yard. It will power itself down the coastline to the staging area the day before troops are to set out. By then, the parades would have been over, and the Challengers steaming up to the staging area by nightfall, troops, supplies and weaponry in tow, with one train pulling the railway artillery guns. The next night, the men move out, the trains rolling onto the ferry two at a time, across the channel. Under cover of nightfall, coastal guns, the AN's limited naval presence, air superiority, missile defense, Anti-Aircraft guns, and capable radar/sonar monitoring, this barge will have reached the opposite side of the channel, which is also owned by the AN, and have docked itself to another ferry slip, constructed in the same amount of time as its sister. This would also have been connected to the local railway lines, which run reasonably close to the coastline. This operation will continue until seven of the eight trains are on the opposite side, the one carrying the railway guns staying in the staging area to bombard passing ships--for the time being. Meanwhile, with all of the trains on the other side, they will be unloaded, and the Corps organized. That will be how IV Corps reaches the northern AN.

Boom.
