Decisive week against Valladares

Image

After the game against Eupheos-Anetus,the 'Dark Lions' needs of the support from the fans and your supporters group to put all your knowledge that we gained in these years for can win Valladares, other hard match in Red Blackiland's road, again,at home, but in this time,at Montgomery Sports Park Stadium in Redínxson with a capacity over than 50,000 seats, the Valladares away fans will be able to pick 900 tickets in the away section of the stadium.
Is a game of patience,as we said in the previous article, the Red Blackiland team changed your style of play to a style more 'ball-possessive' with fast unexpected attacks using the velocity of the offensive players. The Valladares team is a well-positioned team in defense and in the middle and have good players and international kwnoed players at your squad and will use the experience that they have, using the 'catimba' style as much as they can, certainly, will be a hard game but Dark Lions showned that can overcome hard obstacles, the team doesn't played against a good amount of very good or world champion teams by the little age at professional worldwide competitions,is the time to Valladares know more about the Ultras Hell and about the country.
The lesson that Peter Valbuena left to the players is ''The talent is on your head, the body is only the manifestation'',so with a solid viewpoint with willpower and giving much attention and markation against Valladares team masters and number 10,a win isn't impossible to Red Blackiland that will be crucial to the team can have chances to pick,at least,a place in playoffs and can dispute between the top teams in this group.
Peter Valbuena said, inspirated ''Football is a beautiful inexhaustible source of research. After all, the people who worked formerly saw in science a hindrance. A hindrance to the sport. Thankfully, this is now changing. Not all, but most are beginning to understand that science did not come to disturb the creativity and spontaneity of the player to play football. Rather, it came to conditions so that he can put this creativity in action.Every beginning of work is difficult because change creates expectation, anxiety and insecurity, hence the need to introduce a sincere attitude, quiet and dedication.
The first impression is crucial to the discipline and the respect that we have in front of a group of athletes or a new coaching staff. The first contact is our business card.
We should be direct and to make clear the goals that seek in our work.
We have an ambitious stance but well aware of the mutual cooperation between the whole group.
We must be authentic but comply with effort, dedication and responsibility our tasks.
All within a group seeking the maximum, and this condition is linked to the individual improvement that is being automatically favorable to the group. Who cares to surpass others, lose time to grow.
Who seeks to follow the rhythm of the companion, whether dedicated or not, will never get in front because it fails to seek your own pace, which may be higher.
Train enough, make your own self-criticism and look decrease their failures so that your opportunities are bigger and better utilized.
Be interested and keep always well balanced emotionally. Work with intelligence and seek to establish concrete goals in their lives''.
The pitch is ours!

Vision from the Fans #3 - The transformations in the model of the Red Blackiland soccer

Image

The national model sport development is very based on public investment, either at the grassroots level or professional. Historically, based on strong values amateurs, the national model turned professional in a peculiar manner, with great presence of public and voluntary sector. Latest reconfiguration has forced the national clubs to seek more commercial alternatives to achieve sporting success.
After the First World War, football was the most popular sport, with specialized publications such as The Glory of Lions in 1900 and the Lions Football 1913.Com in the war, football has spread to the interior and to the working layers. After the war, football was gaining more space in comparison to the gym - considered very militaristic - it stimulated the collective spirit, leadership and local pride.
At the national football, professionalism was established thanks in large part to industrial initiative linked to the football. In 1928, Marco Davec decided to create a football club to keep the workers happy, because the moment was imminent economic crisis. The idea was born and later the Port Tudor Athletic Club. Initially, the goal was to organize games with clubs from neighboring regions, but gradually, the ambition of its creator has made the team grow, bringing players from other teams with attractive to incorporate them as car factory workers. In 1932, Marco Davec used its influence in political circles and among the sports authorities to professionalism were implemented.
Even after having the professionalism, players still had the possibility of having other jobs. Some players chose careers that were compatible with the sports route - as is the famous case of Raymond Kopa who had in football a way out to work in the mines. Thus, the barrier between the middle classes and the working class was not as strong. Studies use the term "incomplete professionalism" to describe the situation in which top hats, players and members of the associations refused to fully implement the rules of the free market to football. Using terms like dilettantism to describe the relationship between those involved in football, money that could with it was seen as an extra only.
Red Blackiland demand for professionalization came who managed the football, to regulate the market and control the wages of the players. Much of the leaders (a group formed mainly by local elites) aimed to improve its symbolic capital, not dedicated completely to the administrative functions of the club, or with the intention of generating a profit from sport activity.
The lack of profit was also explained by the 1901 law that regulated the sports associations. Establishing freedom of association, legislation was seen in the Red Blackiland as a great democratic breakthrough because for the first time the national state authorized a group of citizens to come together and bring forward a common activity. At the height of Republicans and secular movements, this measure was important to make it easier for civil society to counter the strong religious ties. Without knowing that elsewhere, the format of "corporation" was used to organize clubs, the laws of 1901 allowed to manage the club so (semi) professional, paying its employees and players and managing money, but while maintaining the voluntary statute. Laws 1901 allowed manage clubs from democratic principles, making the governing board was elected regularly and do not receive remuneration.
This all suggests that the Red Blackiland football was professionalized around amateurs values. The world of football put more into practice family values than business values, which generated in Red Blackiland a different model than was done elsewhere. During the wars, the professional side suffered a blow because the sport was reorganized to anti-republicans values of work and home. However, as managers remained the same after the release, the transition was easier. Given the refusal to adopt corporate values and downtime during the war, a key element in the national football is your connection to volunteering and community life. After the war, the State has ensured the presence of public service values to the sport, implementing legislation and regulations that linked the professional sport and amateur and training practice.
The local aspect is evidenced by the investment that was made by municipalities. Today is no longer allowed, but in the season 2000/2001 this investment represented on average 4% of the first division teams and 15% in the 2nd division. This also extends stages. Are largely owned by municipalities and by 2001 they paid very little for their use. Laws that year pressed to adjust usage rates to the realities of the clubs. Even for the reform of the stadiums for the world in 98 clubs did not pay for anything, being a mix of public and private funding.
The reality of Red Blackiland collided with the rest of the Coalition of Freedom from the implementation of Druckheimhard Act. When the Coalition of Freedom (block that the country was part of the season) was called to intervene in this case, football began to be treated as an economic activity, and clubs or companies. It is therefore considered that subsidies were illegal from the point of view of competition, and municipal financing could only be done through sponsorship. Thus, a movement that was already since the 70 to change the legal status of football clubs, for something that would allow the remuneration of directors and the implementation of more corporate values had to necessarily happen in the 2000s.
So we can see that the legal and institutional structures traditionally reflected the view that sports activity was part of the state's mission and local authorities. Republican ethos says the state's position in improving the welfare of its citizens and integrate them the nation (one and indivisible Republic). These ideas feed the view that the Noberthain Baron had sport as something more important than just the pursuit of victory, watching sports practice for ethical and philosophical bias, promoting the physical and intellectual development.
However, this development model is not compatible with the required degree of success to the current football. To achieve high levels sports - as success continental in the Champions League - and have financial success to sustain the sporting side, the clubs need to capitalize and take market measures, going against what is done in other countries of Sports, investing in media coverage and in building global brands.

Ace Newman, two others starters spend Sarrbia match detained for drug theft

WYPULI, SARRBIA -- Cosumar National Team players Ace Newman, Everett Seymour and Felix Merchison were apprehended for stealing a variety of exotic drugs from one of the Sarrbian capital's many street-corner narcotics stores just six hours before the Dragons' World Cup Qualifying match at Arena Malluma Maŭra. Cosumarite manager Farris Crowley was not notified of their arrest, forcing him to cobble together an alternate gameplan when the three were nowhere to be found during the team's pre-match activities.

Sarrbia, a tropical Rushmori nation that references beach parties in its official motto, is known for its universal drug legalization and high rate of drug use (top 5% in the region according to the WA census). Its international reputation as a drug haven is so prevalent that many hold the misconception that recreational drugs are handed out and shared there for free.

It is this misunderstanding to which Newman, Seymour and Merchison attribute their wrongdoing.

"After our flight landed here last night, Felix [Merchison] and I were reading some message boards on travel websites, just looking for things to do in Wypuli before the match," Newman said. "Several different sites referenced how Sarrbia has these awesome stores where you can just walk in and take whatever drugs you want. We obviously thought that this meant for free. We don't read their language and didn't see any price tags, so we just grabbed some...product...and left. Nonchalant, no big deal."

According to Sarrbian authorities, the star footballers were found in possession of a "sampling quantity" of several exotic drugs. Some of the items included "Audioslavian Angel Hair", "Yttribian Crazy Crystal", "Fleftic Fairy Dust" and "Shroom de Guayabal".

In Sarrbia, you name your own price and deposit your payment in a pot outside the door upon exit. An off-duty Sarrbian patrol officer, who was also browsing the store's merchandise, reportedly followed the trio out of the store in anger after Seymour took the bag of "Quebecois Quartz" he had his eye on. When the officer saw that the Cosumarites had ignored the offering pot on the way to their car, he followed their black rental sedan for 3.5 miles before arresting them on seven counts of theft.

Fortunately, Sarrbia's criminal punishments are as lax as their drug laws. Newman, Merchison and Seymour were sentenced to a "time-out" (yes, like you would give a misbehaving schoolchild) for "the duration of no fewer than 12 hours". They were sentenced at 2 p.m. and sent to a pitch-black room where they were asked to sit on a large couch with several other "detainees" until 2 a.m.

"It was just an altogether odd experience," Merchison said. "Cosumar is progressive when it comes to recreational drug use, but this place was on a whole other level. Never seen so much [expletive] in one store. I've never heard of putting an optional amount of payment in a clay pot on the doorstep either. And then our punishment was twelve hours sitting in silence with complete strangers in a black room? Just bizarre. At least they turned on the game for us."

For live TV viewers, no explanation was given for the mysterious omissions from the starting line-up. Their whereabouts were completely unknown. The commentators were clearly perplexed by Farris Crowley's decision to experiment with the spine of the team. To compensate for the loss of a starting center forward (Newman), center back (Seymour) and defensive midfielder (Merchison), Crowley went with a 4-1-2-1-2 that complemented the strengths of his remaining players.

Bench players Sur Arora, Reuben Hamasaki and Jon-Perohlin Nodtveit were called up into the starting line-up and several players were moved around. RAM Frazan Va'Goshal transitioned to more of a traditional central midfield role, LAM Anders Engström slid into a striker role up top with Arora and Vareza Na'Noni played as the sole defensive midfielder behind Hamasaki and Va'Goshal.

Farris Crowley's improvised 4-1-2-1-2 line-up due to the absence of three expected starters.

It wasn’t always easy to watch, but the Dragons still managed to get the full three points in Sarrbia, winning 2-0 to remain perfect in Group 15 play.

Thanks to late goals from Ole Öhman and Sur Arora, the Cosumarites averted what could've been a disaster without three of their best players, relying heavily on the experience of former starters like Arora and Nodtveit as well as some infusions of energy from substitues Petri Hansen, Sheldon Serra and Öhman to power them through.

In the 76th minute, Va'Goshal crossed the ball in from the right-hand side that deflected out to Öhman at the top of the box. The Sabrefell Athletic star fired it past Myollo Kunigitaj goalkeeper Oriane Spurling for his first international goal of this World Cup cycle.

Va'Goshal nearly created another goal just a few minutes later, but Petri Hansen's curling first-touch finish was saved by Spurling. The Sarrbian netminder could do nothing about Cosumar's second though, as a bad turnover in the 80th minute allowed Sheldon Serra to waltz in on goal from the left and square a perfect ball to Arora, whose easy tap-in gave him his 99th international goal, drawing him agonizingly close to the century-mark.

Asked after the game about Newman, Seymour and Merchison's little Sarrbian adventure, Farris Crowley had some wise words.

"This team is bigger than any one person, or any three people. Someone goes down, someone else steps up to replace him," Crowley said. But I love these guys. I was worried about them. Sure, we could've used their help tonight, but I'm just glad to have them back safe with us. If this incident took place in Gregoryisgodistan, for example, they might have gotten more than a time-out. Ultimately, this just an unfortunate case of cultural differences resulting in miscommunication. It's our responsibility as visitors to do a better job of understanding and respecting the unique culture of each nation we travel to."

The Fiefdom Soccer Federation (FSF) is considering a suspension for the three players that could range from 1-4 games for violating personal conduct statutes.

Cosumarites also generated controversy abroad in World Cup 69, when openly atheist players and supporters traveled to The Archregimancy for a match and were met with a hostile environment that included condemnatory banners, flag-burnings and offensive chants from the religious fundamentalist locals.

Valanora Times
Back In The Hunt

What a difference a set of matches makes for the prospects of the Marauders, after Polkopia does the unthinkable and upset The Calanians as well as Darvale being bested by the intolerable Pays d'en Haut. However that would not have been enough to set things up decently for the Marauders if they failed to follow through on winning their own match though, however they delivered and in a big way. In Capri, they showed off just what happens when all of the skilled players that the side has on the offensive side of the pitch have a good game together, putting six goals past their opposition in a complete and utter rout of Aloquirbe. The heavy defeat undoing much of the good that Aloquirbe had shown in their first two matches and a doing a good job of helping purge some of the pessimism that had began to creep into the Marauder camp.

With the leaders of the group now all stuck on six points each, that means that Valanora can play their game from here on out without worry about having to rely on others for results. Not that they could have really minded so much, but Polopia and Pays d'en Haut did Valanora huge favors with their results. The question now, is can the Marauders turn this good fortune into a string of solid performances and the results that they expect to get in their upcoming matches or will they too be bitten by the upset bug? Will it be a case of thrice bitten, twice dead for the Marauders, or will the legendary captain and the everyday heroes that he calls his teammate be able to get their act in gear?

What is evident is that this squad can perform at the highest caliber still and that the AOCAF was not a fluke as sometimes the regional competitions can be. While Aloquirbe is not exactly the highest of caliber of squad, like the Calanian Union or even Karditan, they had been doing reasonably well in their first two matches. It was the sort of match that could have gone the other way had the Marauders not taken their foes seriously, as has been the downfall of many squads before them that thought themselves too high above their foes. Too eager to get what was laying at the end of the journey that they failed to realize the traps, obstacles, and the scenery on the journey to the destination. While the destination is important, the journey in getting there can be just as important, if not more so, and can shape what you find at the end of that road.

With a side now full of confidence following the victory, it is time for the Marauders to press on and show that their away form is not something that can be utterly taken advantage of. Darvale looked to provide a blueprint on how to stymie and frustrate the Vanorian offensive juggernaut yet it is a blueprint that will ultimately be difficult to follow for most. The Marauders are going to get their goals, it is a matter of whether the opposing team has the wherewithal to coordinate their own forrays or produce a good counter attack. Karditan is definitely a composed squad and will be looking to keep pace with the Calanians and others while this would be the perfect opportunity to put one of those who are competing with the Marauders for the playoff spot lower in the table. If Galadirdren will provide solid play with the defense in front of him, then I fully expect that Hawk can lead the offense towards a very pivotal win.

In the village of Cantervale, a small town in the shadow of the towering Harmony Mountains, lived a small earth pony filly named Cranberry Pie. Like many foals her age, little Cranberry Pie was an avid hoofball fan and followed her local team - Cantervale North - with a passion; but her true love was the Equestrian national team, and for as long as she could remember, her dream was to see her beloved Ponies with her own eyes.

Of course, being a youth just five years old, this didn't amount to a very long time but felt to the filly like an eternity.

One day, Cranberry Pie's father came home with a small envelope, which he presented to his energetic child with a grin. The filly tore it open with her hooves and teeth and squealed with excitement as her parents looked on with a smile, for within was a ticket to the Ponies' upcoming game against a nation Cranberry Pie had never before heard of. Not that the opposing team really mattered to Cranberry Pie, who was ecstatic beyond words that she was finally going to a Ponies game with her parents.

In the weeks leading up to the match, Cranberry Pie was barely able to sleep, imagining what the game would be like. Would Gentle Breeze make a miraculous diving save? Would Cloudchaser fire a cross to Pristina Shine that the unicorn striker would head into the net to win the game? For Cranberry Pie, the days seemed to crawl slowly by, but finally the day of the game arrived.

Waking early in the morning, the red-furred filly and her father and mother left their modest home for the local train station and boarded the first train of the day to Canterlot. Once in the Equestrian capital, the young family had several hours before they needed to start heading towards the stadium, relaxing at one of Canterlot's countless cafes while Cranberry Pie pored over a newspaper's preview of the match.

Several hours before the game was to begin, they joined the masses converging on Star Stadium, the afternoon sunlight glittering on the stadium's golden exterior as they approached. After passing through the gates and climbing a set of ramps to the upper deck, Cranberry Pie was finally treated to her first view of the perfect green pitch, audibly gasping as she took in her surroundings. In the distant corner of the stadium, she could see the away side's blue-clad supporters, but far outnumbering them were the purple and orange-wearing fans of the Ponies.

Once the game finally began, time flew for Cranberry Pie and before she knew it, it was over. Neither team had scored, and some fans near her seemed a little mad, but it didn't matter to Cranberry Pie. All that mattered was that she'd seen her beloved Ponies for what she hoped would be the first of many times.

This poem is in honor of those who have lost a loved one in an accident caused by a driver who was simultaneously attempting to text and drive. Please, do not text and drive. A life is more important than a text.
Standing By The Road

there I stood in the midst of the rain
on the side of the road
where my life changed forever on that night
on the side of the road

where the impact occurred is where I stood
on the side of the road
where a text and a distraction destroyed his life
on the side of the road

he was taken from me as if had no value
on the side of the road
because a text is more important than a life
on the side of the road

and here I am
standing on the side of road
where my life was altered by the death
on the side of the road

Star United States 0 : 2 San Jose Guayabal

The Starian encountered their first defeat at Ilha Recife, with a devastating, at least for Star United States, results. The visitors, which in this case was San Jose Guayabal, a well-known team in the country. With two goals, they took a win. The ball started in Starian possession, however it quickly diffused to the opponent's side. First-half of the game went rather slowly, however. The ball was transferred from one team to another and kept near the center of the field. The match got interested in the second half, once the first goal was placed against the Starian team.

On the 71st minute of the match, Saucedo scored. He headbutted the ball into the net after a free kick was executed. Although the Starian attendance was larger than the Guayabalense, the roar of the cheers could not under any means go unnoticed. Spark, goalkeeper for Star United States attempted to stop the flying ball, but failed to do so.

Still with hope, the Starians pushed on to gain a goal at least gain a draw against San Jose Guayabal. Soarison, Banks, Carniero, and Amaral all attempted to score, but either missed the net by a small distance or the ball was amazingly stopped by Henry Hernández, the Guayabalense goalkeeper.

To top it off, the Guayabalense team needed to package and seal their victory. They did this with another goal that came around on the 83rd minute. Following a counterattack of Moreira, the all-mighty Zelaya scored, after doding his way through the Starian defense player, Xavier Vale.

One three matches have passed, and Star United States has two victories and one loss. Tonight they will be facing Walkany at the Estadio Lado del Oceano in SeaShore City. A Starian victory is expected. We'll see what is to happen. Stay tune.

'So you would describe the situation as precarious maybe?'
'Precarious would be an understatement I think, ma'am.' The naval officer speaking to Eura's Foreign Secretary Amy Yarley was not just referring to Flisgive. This was Port Whittoria, the capital of a new Euran Overseas Territory, the "Whittorian Islands". This grouping of four small islands and their even smaller satellites in the Crystilakere Channel of Atlantian Oceania had been formed by a sudden and cataclysmic meteor event which destroyed most of the state of Whittoria and one other country near Valanora. Countries like Farfadillis, New Drakonia and Greater Watford had fortunately escaped destruction and experienced only tidal events as a consequence of the impact. In the aftermath a number of islands and small populations of beleaguered survivors lived on, but what was left of Whittoria was unable to provide for them. As always with these situations, the international community does the best it can. One particular country, however, had taken advantage of this situation while also doing its bit. Just a week after the destruction was fully digested and mapped out by the international community, Eura joined the meager efforts to relieve the survivors by pledging billions of development and aid money and sending a naval task group to the region.

It began as an aid effort, but as other countries interest dwindled and the mostly unoccupied Whittorian Islands dropped off the radar in the last days of the Capital-Liberal coalition, Michael Judge's cabinet ordered a quiet and dignified "incorporation" of four neighbouring islands left over from Whittoria's devastation, the four which were home to many of the survivors, into the Euran Commonwealth of Overseas Territories. Or if you're not speaking euphemistically like some media did, "Eura annexes Whittorian Islands into Eurasphere". This little action, it appeared, had still gone mostly unnoticed or at least had not prompted a reaction several months into the reign of the new Liberal government. There were no comparisons to the Uke Islands and Sameba (though of course that comparison would be really ridiculous) and more significance was placed by the media on the islands as a staging point for future withdrawal from the Flisgive region. However, as the officer had said to Yarley, the situation was precarious in the Whittorian Islands. Half of the population were living in tents, the facilities for both civilians and the Euran military were poor and there was a long road to travel before the Whittorian Islands would be up to the standards they held before "the event". Unfortunately, their new Euran administrators now had a distraction.

A sudden and unexpected crisis had emerged in Flisgive, and that is why Yarley was here. She was being given a briefing aboard a light aircraft carrier by military officers and intelligence officials on the threat by Lex Crowley (Who was inexplicably still alive) and his Corvidae cohorts to seemingly blow up a large portion of Flisgive. This wasn't what the bomb would do of course, but they were not to know that. The Calanian Union had been told not to panic by the Eurans; predictably the inexperienced fools did just that and had begun a hasty failure of an evacuation in Flisgive. People were streaming for the borders of the Flisgive Zone which was jointly administered by Calanian officials and the Euran Marin Corps , and there was little else to be done. However now the Euran's themselves were feeling nervous as the clock ticked down, and Yarley was being told why in no uncertain terms. "At first we thought it must be a small device, or at least just a large conventional weapon. We thought for a few hours that it might be a MOAB and evacuated the surrounding mile area or something like that, but then we went over what images we have available again that the media and our drones got. Now we are not sure.'
'Could it be nuclear?'
'It could be, but based on the intelligence we've been showing you we don't think its likely. It is more likely something to do with these experiments that were going on before and during the Corvidae regime. They're taking credit for the meteor too; we don't buy that, I mean its absurd. However at the same time we must take this threat seriously ma'am.'

Yarley turned away from the table and looked out to sea. The PM's instructions had been fairly straightforward, and she agreed with them. 'The Calanian's wont act?'
'The First Mertian Army are too busy evacuating civilians. All they've done is some cursory scouting. We've pulled all of our naval vessels in the port back to a minimum safe distance of about 20 miles from the maritime border of the Flisgive zone.'
'Who have we got ready to go?'
'Marine Commandos, small force but we've equipped them to the hilt. Recon suggests the building may not be too heavily defended by comparison. We don't have much time, less than a day and a half in fact.'
'Ok then.' Yarley spun round with a confident smile on her face. 'Contact the Calanian's directly and tell them that we want their best units ready to go at some point in the last twenty four hours. We've got to try and stop this, whether the threat is real or not. In the meantime, get as many people out as you can.'

"YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN! THE KINGDOM WON! THE KINGDOM WON! MATTHEWSIANIA WINS!"

The radio shouted at many, many houses of the Relaxed Kingdom of Matthewsiania. The Figs had pulled an upset against Kandorith. A nearly sold-out Mateus Primeiro saw the squad hold for dear life until the final whistle. Two hours and a couple of minutes before that whistle, the crowd expected less than a win. Kandorith, a more stable, talented team had it all pretty simple. Beat Matthewsiania and continue on their merry way with a 2-1-0 record. The supporters of the Figs weren't even that loud. They were expecting a beating and the first goal, a far shot from Méng Zeiji; did nothing to help the case for the Esportivan side.

But then, it happened. A free kick near the box. They probably underestimated the Figs' famous free kick tactics. Zé Gatinha kicked it towards the left. And with near-millimetre precision, a well placed upwards shot by Bressinho to the right top angle of the net tied it. Matthewsiania had just tied against the Red Dragons. It sparked the crowd, but not a whole lot. They didn't expect it. But the shock was quickly replaced with offensive thirst. They tried. They forced. They did all on their hands to take the game back. And with a corner to the left, they mildly expected a goal to silence the home crowd again... though mildly normally doesn't mean sending your goalkeeper to the box to try it out again. Thankfully for the Figs, the ball was intercepted on the air by Pedrinho Cléston, who then booted the ball forward with so much strength that the ball shook the back of the net. The crowd rejoiced from the second goal.

The team from Kandorith was angry. And the second half showed it. Harsher than they were the first half. They attacked all-in, no worries about defence. Minzheng Shéng finally found a great opening and shot. Pedrinho tried, but couldn't block it. A leaping Renné tried his best to keep the ball out with a header, but only fed it to Shan Xiaobo, who finally scored to end it. Matthewsiania 2, Kandorith 2.

The game returns, crowd silent... Only for a penalty. Red Dragons questioned, angered, they were being stolen in the middle of the field? Werdickley Safadão grabs the ball, takes it to the area. Bressinho wants to shoot, but is held back by Silvana. Werdickley kisses the ball. The ball is lowered to the ground. Safadão takes a step back...

Needless to say, Matthewsiania now looks forward to the next match with more enthusiasm.

The image of Werdickley shooting the penalty to the bottom left while Jianjun Tuan takes a dive to the right will be remembered by Matthewsianian historians for the rest of the Kingdom's existence.
This is Matthewsiania, Northern Sunrise Islands strange flag-colored puppet.

Milchama Playing Well

The Milchama Warriors are off to a great start in the World Cup. Despite a roster that only has the starters first or last names posted; the MFA said it "couldn't be bothered" to list both first AND last names for all players, the Warriors have started the World Cup on 6 points with two victories in their first three games. Milchama has been on a down swing in the World Cup recently while the early and mid-60s sides were all on the verge of qualification as the Warriors qualified for the playoffs multiple times, and even succeeded in qualifying twice, things have been on a downslope since World Cup 65. This downslope has been blamed on many things but most observers it comes down what many call "graduate school" which has led to less interest in soccer by the populace as well as a decrease in newspaper reports.

Coach Ibn Cortez said, "This might seem like a down period but just wait, we'll be back soon and in greater numbers." Despite his clear plagiarizing of Star Wars quotes, Ibn Cortez has a point, the Warriors have often gone through cycles of ups and downs based upon responsibilities and likelihoods. Right now seems like a down time but in a few months or so things will probably pick back up and Milchama will once again reign supreme or at least, you know, competitive. The key though is to make sure that they keep winning. Ibn Cortez again, "I think this is a squad that will win multiple games" and so far he has been proven correct.

The Warriors glory years are long ago and as Milchama celebrates its 10th year on Nation States and its 48th consecutive World Cup fans wonder how long until Milchama can again be a consistent Top 10 team that isn't happy with two wins in the first 3 games of qualifying but instead a team that would get incensed about such a poor performance. I say, not soon.

This is a newspaper reporter, signing off. Good night!

San Llera win first game in World Cup Qualifying
San Llera have finally done it, winning their first world cup game, a 2-1 victory over Nassau-Hessen. This win was preceded by a 3-0 loss to Starblaydia, but that, nor San Llera's sixth-place group standing, kept fans at Camp a L'aigua from celebrating. Jan Capo and Martini Saragosa both struck within the first ten minutes of the game, sending the fans into a small riot. Nassau-Hessen struck back in the 65', but it wasn't enough. Top performers were the goalscorers (Capo's goal came from a through ball from Don Llorens, while Saragosa struck a poorly cleared ball of the crossbar and in) and defender Marc Abello, who once again put on a clinical performance in the back. Nobody was really at fault for the loss at Starblaydia, as San Llera was simply outclassed by a better team. Then again, no particularly impressive performances were showcased. After the match, Jon Lleranerus spoke once again:
We were down, but we got up. You know why? Because we are strong. Starwarsia may have a him there and another guy there, but we are together. We are we. It is us. They are disunited and we are unified. WE ARE SAN LLERANS! A NATION OF PEOPLE HAVE RALLIED BEHIND US, AND WE WILL NOT LET THEM DOWN! WE WILL WIN OR WE WILL DIE TRYING!

The End - Part Three

Versålolm, Vjaalsbürg - shortly after the initial Los Juantos incidents

"Jesus Christ!" Nils Hansen shrieked at his computer. All activity in the government office immediately stopped. Dozens of pairs of eyes turned around and silently judged him. Unaware of this, Nils continued to goggle at his computer - after five minutes of goggling, he staggered to his boss and showed him the article. A corresponding shriek echoed from the boss' office soon after.

The news spread like wildfire when it was discovered that nothing could enter or exit Super-Llamaland a few days later. The boating phenomenons had been observed all along the contiguous Llamanean borders, and even occupants of many Llamanean-controlled islands reported fatalities as well. Within a week, over one thousand had died trying to get out despite the government's stern warnings.

Cargo planes didn't work - in fact, nothing could make it through without being burnt to a crisp. The Llamaneans needed to know what they were dealing with before they asked for help, Nils silently mused to himself...

Llamanean Space Administration - Secondary Launch Site, 30 miles outside Northbrooke, Kyrinson Province - March 19

Northbrooke was a quaint little town - nice cottages, picturesque forest landscape, cordial locals. The only reason it hadn't become a tourist hub was that it lay in the middle of the forest. The LSA had chosen this as an emergency launch site in case they were forced to launch from the mainland - with thirty miles of unpopulated forest all around, there was nothing that could go wrong.

Sure, the eco nuts had gone insane when they plowed down an acre of land to build the LSA complex - but there was plenty of forest to go around, John Heartstone knew. And nobody was complaining about the LSA Secondary Complex now, were they?

Llamanea was already starting to suffer massive shortages of chiefly imported goods - they simply didn't have enough reserves to cover every niche product, and rationing had been seriously considered. They had to figure out what was going on in order to save the economy - and, if things got bad enough, the nation's food supply.

So they'd done what any self-respecting (read: not Hicañan) space program would do. They built a probe.

As far as probes went, it wasn't a very good one - but they'd had only a week. There were voltmeters and various clever thermometers of various sorts on the outside - the probe was bound to get blasted, so these were single-use instruments only. The inside was essentially an enormous rubber ball with some control implements on the inside - these were largely decorative. It was merely a first attempt.

They dubbed it the LRBProbe, refusing to publicly admit that LRB stood for "Large Rubber Ball" because they hadn't had a better idea, and eventually it was hastily renamed the Explorer. They rushed through the usual launch procedures and got ready. Heartstone, only a minor director, had taken a post at one of the stations. They boredly watched Explorer get launched out into the unknown.

"It's stable," someone called out. "It's going to get into the zap zone soon, probably release the dots around half a mile in."

The "dots" were a few hundred small metal orbs intended to figure out the extent of the danger zone. They would be slowly dropped as Explorer continued forwards.

A few minutes later, someone called out, "first batch of dots is going to be dropped in five seconds...four, three, two, one. Explorer is 0.50 miles out. Somebody read the voltmeters for those, please." On Heartstone's screen, Explorer continued to bumble along.

"Second batch of dots in three...two...one...two-thirds of a mile out. First batch is still untouched."

"Third batch of dots in three...two...one...four-fifths of a mile out. First and second batches untouched."

"nine-tenths of a mile out..."

"one mile out..."

"eleven-tenths of a mile out, that's batch six." The LSA's excitement faded, several began to stop paying attention. Heartstone had to stop himself from drifting off.

"How's the probe?"

"Rubber ball's still doing pretty well. Made it out one point two miles without being struck so-"

"Christ!"

"What's wrong?"

"Batch five's just been hit! Check out that voltage! Erm, that's a bad thing."

"Batch four looks fine...so does batch six-oh, never mind."

"Do we even release batch seven?"

"Yeah, do it for the data points. What's the info on time after dropped?"

"Batch five lasted slightly longer than batch six - hm, there goes one ball from batch four. Five and six were all taken out within three seconds of each other, though. I don't know. Definitely keep dropping batches. This is interesting stuff."

Heartstone had been distracted by this new discovery - someone tapped him on the shoulder, hard. It was almost more of a hit than a tap.

"Christ, John! Look at your monitor!"

He spun - they'd kept their signal, but the voltmeter and thermometer had both spiked briefly and then dropped to nothing. The camera feed had been completely lost.

"The instruments have short-circuited for sure," Heartstone said amazedly, "at least a megavolt of energy in that blast. Jesus. Temperature spike's insane as well. Looks like thousands of degrees Celsius. Looks like the probe's still somewhat intact, though. Rewind the camera - maybe we can catch something on screen."

They watched the camera; first normally, then frame-by-frame. Both showed a normal scene, a single bright flash, and then nothing. "That's the blast for sure," Heartstone said. "Is the GPS still working?"

It somehow was - they tracked down the probe and found it six feet off its intended course to Jackson Island, an uninhabited rock off the coast of Kyrinson. They judged the craggy isle a perfect place to land the Explorer - it wasn't going to come back in one piece anyways.

Heartstone tracked the probe's progress intently. It seemed to be listing off to the left a bit, but nothing too concerning - Jackson Island was surprisingly large, if uninhabitable. It was now about fifteen feet off to the left.

And then it stopped. Fifteen feet to the left and three miles from Jackson Island, it just stopped. Then he realized there'd been a second blast. "Christ!" Heartstone yelled. "Guys, over here!"

TUROKI CITY, VILITA :: With just one quadrant left to reveal, the Vilitan island of Turoki, and Turoki City were the spotlight.

Just a short hop from the Calanian mainland and the home of Tropicorp, the Turoki Institute of Technology was the home site for the final piece in the "World Cup 71 Madness" puzzle. Similar to the set-up in Cednia Beach, the Institute would not be open to the public during the calculation period, but any results would be revealed at a data board posted outside the Turoki Community Complex, home to former UICA Runners-Up Turoki United and UICA Champions Cup and Globe Cup winners Turoki Tide.

With the home nation Vilita not listed in any of the nation slots thus far, many widely expected to see their namesake country in the final bracket listing; although some speculated that Vilita may be left out altogether for fairness sake.

Of course, it wasn't long before the former was proven true, much like Turori had done earlier in the day.

Image

They wouldn't be the top seeds in the bracket, however, as World Cup co-hosts Felix and one of its most succesful and formidible entrants, The Holy Empire, would claim the wo top seeds.

The inclusion of two additional pre-primary round calculation scenarios also officially confirmed 72 nation slots in the simulation, opposed to the previously advertised 64. However, with the Pre-Primary round calculations taking place on a stand-alone script base, the primary calculations would not begin until the nation-slots had been widdled down to a more manageable 64.

The head of the Tropicorp Artificial Intelligence Team (TAIT); Iiro Turzusii, made his first appearance of the release campaign, offering up an inviation to "All institutes of advanced technology, artificial and predictive intelligence around the multiverse" to perform their own, independant calculations.

Turzusii announced that any institutes, Nation-States or private entities wishing to test their own predictive capacities would be welcome to submit their own results to the TAIT. At the end of the calculation routine, the TAIT would compare the submissions of outside entities to the baseline results generated by the TAIT for accuracy, and award a grant to the highest-scoring external institution.

The full bracket to be used as a base for the calculation could be found at the official Tropicorp repository:

The Fairbanks Arena, New Fairbanks, Darvale - It was in the Fairbanks Arena, located in the heart of New Fairbanks' commercial district where the Goats played their last match, against Polkopia, in front of roaring full house of 50,000 Polkopian and Darvalian fans alike. The match that would be played in the Arena would prove to be an explosive one, with a grand total of seven goals scored in ninety minutes. Even with starting goalkeeper Lowell Rose still out with an eye injury, the Goats still prevailed, beating the 193rd ranked team 5-2 at home, bouncing back from a mediocre 2-1 loss away at Pays d'en Haut.

With the Darvalian team in a sour mood after losing against Pays d'en Haut, the match kicked off to a dramatic start. The first ten minutes of the game alone saw a total of five attempts on goal, four of which were on target. Polkopian strikers Rostislav Kantrisov and Immanuil Serevo were quick to test the Darvalian defense, but Darvalian strikers Ryan Keane, Spencer Campbell, Darrell Burns, and Philp Downing beat the Polkopians to actually breaking the defense - and they did it in a mere ten minutes. Team captain Philip Downing capitalized on a pass from Callum Ramsey to the fullest, by chipping the ball above the head of goalkeeper Vladimir Polov and into the back of the net, earning him his first goal of the tournament.

The morale of the Polkopian team may have simmered down a bit, but the pace of the game did anything but that. In the 16th minute, Jordan Bridges was somehow able to block his second penalty of the tournament after Polkopian Immanuil Serevo's penalty shot, which was awarded to him after an involuntary hand ball inside the box on the part of Owen MacGee, bounced off the left post and flew into Bridges' hands. However, things became a bit more interesting towards the 25 minute mark, when, for some reason, the Polkopians started to gain possession of the ball more often than they used to.

Perhaps it was extensive examination of Pays d'en Haut's exploitation of the Goats' gritty, yet small defense at Parc Angora yesterday that gave them a bit of an advantage intel-wise, but Polkopian captain Aleksandr Krenkov was able to find a loophole in between Darvalian midfielders Steven Bennett and Cedric Pearson, and consequently lob the ball above the heads of defenders MacGee and Fowler, to his fellow teammate Immanuil Serevo, who hammered the ball into the top-right corner of the net without incident, changing the score to 1-1 in the 30th minute.

Things got even more interesting a mere eight minutes later, when Polkopian team captain Aleksandr Krenkov was able to turn the tables on the Goats in the 38th minute. After Polkopian Vyacheslav Gorodiva was fouled by Marlon Fowler just outside the Darvalian box, Krenkov was able to fire the ball into the back of the Darvalian net in the ensuing free kick, devastating the Darvalians' morale. However, the Goats' continued fighting, and, another eight minutes later, star striker Darrell Burns was able to dribble past Polkopians Andrei Yakostovo, Mikhail Vebitsibvy, and Alexander T'voni, and then smuggle past a sly back-heel in between the legs of goalkeeper Vladimir Polov, and into the back of the net, leveling the playing field. Naturally, due to the timing of the goal in the first minute of first half additional time, there was quite a fuss from the Polkopians over the legitimacy of the goal, but the argument was settled with Boris Polgov earning himself a yellow card.

The Darvalians kept their momentum in the second half, with Spencer Campbell nearly scoring in the 52nd minute, but his shot bounced off the top post. In the 59th minute, however, Callum Ramsey didn't disappoint the crowd when he fired a shot past goalkeeper Vladimir Polov, and into the back of the net from just under 35 yards out. The game's adrenaline kept on rushing, with both the Polkopians and the Darvalians displaying excellent pieces of play at times, and less exciting ones at other times. However, hopes of a Polkopian equalizer would only last so long. In the 70th minute, it was captain Philip Downing who dolphin-dived to net a steel header into the goal, picking up his second goal of the game, to the cheers of the thousands of Darvalian supporters in the stadium.

However, the Goats, winning 4-2, still weren't done with the Polkopians yet, and, in the 87th minute, after a half-line shot by Cedric Pearson bounced off the top of the Polkopian goal, star striker Darrell Burns surged forward to beautifully half-volley the ball into the back of the net, definitively sealing Darvale's second win of the tournament so far. After their win against Polkopia, the Goats are now third in Group 18, behind Pays d'en Haut, who Darvale last faced before Polkopia, and the Calanian Union, who will be Darvale's next opponent in the qualifiers.

The 20th best team in the world, the Calanian Union are the highest ranked team in Group 18, and have won three out of their four matches so far in the tournament, although they will be coming off from a 2-1 loss away against Polkopia to face Darvale at home. With goalkeeper Lowell Rose expected to recover fully after the match against the Calanian Union, we are expecting to be pulverized by these international superstars, who, in addition to already having statistical and all-around superiority over the Goats, will also have the advantage of playing at home.

Dear Jaime,

I cannot tell you how proud I am to have observed your Baptism of Fire successes from afar. At time of writing, you had just defeated New Morrisia by a whopping four-to-one margin. I saw the match at one of these special cockroach football match simulation pits they have built. I have to say, it's quite a fun experience. The cockroach who was playing you, dressed in a tiny little dark gray suit with a purple tie, should have won an award for its portrayal! The little guy even had your stoic expression on his tiny face! What fun.

Best of luck to you as you head to the tournament's second phase. It is quite fair to say, I think, that you will need it given your next opponent is the near-invincible Jey. The employees here at the PIFA have a little office pool going, trying to predict who will win. Almost everybody has gone with you and your boys (nationalist bias, you must understand), but there is one fellow who's betting against you! He seems to think your loss of Mahmudanam Rha to a long term injury will disrupt your form! Let's hope he's wrong! (If he's not, I'll fire him! hahaha ;))

Still haven't found the silver square you sent me. You'll remember the story: I was sitting around eating some food one day, and it was in the pocket of my robe, but then I stood up and it was gone! I am prepared to accept the possibility that I myself misplaced it, but with the number of searches I've had my maids do of my mansion reaching a dozen, I am slowly leaning towards the likelihood that it might have been stolen. (And before you ask, yes, I've checked the couch cushions. :() There's one young lady in particular who I just have a bad feeling about: light, maybe yellowish skin, dark Asian eyes, straight black hair. We only just hired her last week - my head of the household said her resume was too fantastic to pass up, but something just doesn't seem right about her.

Oh well. I still appreciate your having sent it to me! I'll remember the sentiment more than the object itself.

One note before I finish this letter... it's a bit of a stab in the dark, but have you heard from Edward lately? The talking cockroach, you know. I seem to recall the two of us ran into him at a media event in Fajr late last year. He made some obscure joke about Lord-Protector Tiberius Starblayde that you seemed to think was quite funny but I didn't understand - I remember that. Anyway, just wondering if you've had any contact with him. The last I heard from him was a couple weeks ago, when a friend who works over at The Entomologist sat down with him for an interview and then called me for comment before going to print. Evidently he (Edward) has been trotting the globe lately, so he may be abroad again, but it's not like him to be out of contact for this long. I certainly hope his absence doesn't have anything to do with that plane crash a couple days ago.

Anyway, I've got to dash. I'm catching a chartered boat over to Pkethat Šede today - there's a billionaire over there who apparently wants to found a new Ivesh Bulah team. 'Shadows,' he's calling them. I guess it's supposed to be a reference to all those ridiculous stories that say the island's haunted. I shudder to think what you as an expatriate think about us Pazhujebis - these superstitions must make us look like a bunch of savages or something! For what it's worth, we're not all like that! I mean, just recently I read an article in the Mahathu Herald about how some loony on a ranch about twenty miles outside of Emuzhezh is claiming to have seen a hut on gigantic chicken legs walking across his property, with some witch shouting at him from out one of the hut's windows. What utter bollocks.

I've sidetracked myself again. Better stop writing before I do it again! :D Best of luck to you, Jaime. Since we hired you, I really have grown to think of you as a dear friend. Well, I'm off! Wish me au revoir!

Fondly,

Siddarth Serhayej, Vice-Chairman of the PIFA

(NOTE: This RP is part of a very long and ambitious storyline that serves as an origin story for this nation. I will be referencing at least a half dozen of my own former RPs, written as the Pazhujeb Islands or Kagdazka and Pazhujebu. As such, I feel like it is in good faith to report this to hosts who might be tabulating my RP bonus: the past RPs I will reintroduce are original material, but most of them have been directly copied and pasted. If this is considered uncouth, I will understand if I am docked bonus points. However, it is worth mentioning that in many of these ancient RPs I left hints that I did plan on revisiting later. Subsequently, this self-plagiarism simply attempts to give context for the plot I will be weaving. I will always provide a notice in this space any time an old RP is used or referenced.)

(This RP makes various references to a story RPed, by me, for the 25th Baptism of Fire. The entire RP thread can be found here. I referenced the interview RPed in this post and I drew a sentence, verbatim, from this post.)

But he was wrong. It was he who was the traitor, he the dictator, he the true tyrant. I returned to above the waves and presented the location of the merpeople's treasure to the dictator of Stvoto Latoli, who greedily took the coordinates without thanking me. As I leapt atop my broom, I could already hear the wailing of the merpeople from the depths; their last shred of dignity, the last remnant of their kingdom, their last symbol of hope; raped by the tyrannical humans.

Princess Laura and midfielder Laurina Dallas at Dazza Dallas Stadium after 2-0 against The Sword Bloke

Laura:
Hey hey this is Princess Laura Virginia Dallas for Naked News Jeruselem. We're back home at Dazza Dallas Stadium. Some team from "The Sword Bloke" took on the Princesses here today. No they are not some store like Swords R Us, it's just a weird country name. I'm with Laurina Dallas, one of our midfielders.
Laurina: Oh yes, hello Jeruselem
Laura: Finally Jeruselem get themselves a win! Well, it was about time after two draws and one recent loss to Boring Paradise.
Laurina: Yes, being last wasn't a great look
Laura: I know we won but we could have done a lot better today
Laurina: We could have won 5-0 if we took all our chances

Laura: Yes, I'm on the scoreboard too. Two goals to moi! I guess I was long overdue to contribute to the team.
Laurina: The other strikers were bit off colour today. They didn't really do a terrible lot.
Laura: Yes home games, we need to perform and score lots of goals. Two isn't enough. Would have been three for me, but I was called offside.
Laurina: Yes, our defense did hold out and we did give the strikers opportunities to be created.
Laura: The others did a bit too much long range shooting. We're not terrible great at that anyway.
Laurina: Most of our goals came from getting down and dirty

Laura: Well, that's why I've covered in grass at the end of the game most of the time.
Laurina: I guess it's 3 points
Laura: We're still underperforming. We're yet to score more than 2 goals in a game.
Laurina: Very true
Laura: Ko-oren and Boring Paradise also scored wins to top Group 16, and we're third
Laurina: We were last before

Laura: Well yes, last to 3rd is because of how the points are in the group.
Laurina: Thank God for that.
Laura: Filopines vs Mendoya was a draw, a scoreless one. Good for us.
Laurina: I guess we wouldn't be 3rd if one of them had won.
Laura: Group 2, Jeru FC score win number 3! Winning 4-2 in ... Flick Jostle
Laura: Funny name

Laura: The Cannons are blasting ass.
Laurina: Isn't that kicking ass
Laura: I was trying get in theme with their name
Laurina: Doesn't work
Laura: The Holy Empire beat Maklohi Vai 3-1 to show who's boss and Gregoryisgodistan smashed Fellow Citizens 4-0
Laurina: Group 2 is pretty competitive with the top 4

Laura: Thank God we're not in Group 2. Dawnhaven beat Nurkama 3-1 and Nurkama stay last and pointless
Laurina: Yes.
Laura: Some games of note, Group 20 - Crystal Empire beat Saintland 1-0.
Laurina: That's an upset alright
Laura: I have noticed some really long country names like ... Schutzenphalia & West Ruhntuhnkuhnland ... yikes
Laurina: I didn't get all that

Laura: We also have Affiliated South Califan Sprawls ... whatever that means
Laurina: What's a sprawl
Laura: Plenty of really hard to spell nations like ... Panamerhispania, Lzherrusskia, Eupheos Anetus
Laurina: I'm glad you can work those out.
Laura: We also had 10 goal game, Star United States 7–3 against Walkany.
Laurina: We're flat out scoring 2 at the moment.

Laura: That's in from us. Hopefully we can start some form and put together some wins
Laurina: We're only 2 points ahead of last place
Laura: Precisely why we need to really pick up our game
Laurina: Yes
Laura: Our friends Bears Armed are 4 from 4 wins too. And conceded .. ZERO GOALS! That's called football. Scored 11 too.
Laurina: That's great form. I wish we were playing like that.

Laura: Yes, but I'm allergic to bears.
Laurina: You still limping around? How on earth you playing football.
Laura: Oh that, it's called ignoring pain. Not good but never mind.
Laurina: Still got a sore knee?
Laura: Yes
Laurina: I'm a wuss with pain.

Polkopia Takes A Merciless 5-2 Bashing From Darvale
By: Sebastian Aliyev

It was the fourth match day, and the third away game that the Polkopian team has played thus far. Going against a team like Darvale, I knew, and I think we all knew, that the Polkopian squad had their work cut out for them, and I think all of us here in Polkopia were hoping for a major upset. Looking at the scoreline, though, we all now know that this was not the case. A 5-2 defeat at the hands of the home side is a rather convincing victory.

Well, where can I begin? Do I begin with the obvious inexperience that Vladimir Polov, who couldn't block a shot to save his life, showed in the net? Do I begin with another lengthy rant on the defense and their inability to do their job properly? Or do I begin with the immaturity that some of these players showed on the field, namely Mr. Boris Polgov out there, who earned himself a yellow card by doing something as stupid as arguing with the officials on what was most definitely a legitimate goal on the Darvalian side?

In orderly to properly asses this game, I think that we all have to look at the morale coming on to the field. Coming on to a pitch such as The Capital Citadel, which is a beautiful stadium I must say, it was clear to see some of the smug expressions on some of the players' faces. This might have been due to the surprise home victory against The Calanian Union, which nobody expected, but even so, these players have to realize that each game is different. The cockiness evident within the opening minutes was blatantly obvious. Unfortunately for the Polkopians, the drive to win didn't come until the first goal had already been scored.

And now... Vladimir Polov, the 'superstar' goalie from the Polkopian club, Peeto Gordost'. It should be very clear to Manager Stenin now that Polov cannot keep up with the pressure that a tournament with this amount of international prestige brings. I read in a statement by Spartak Stenin himself, that he is planning on starting rookie keeper, Ivan Opotov, who currently plays for the club FC Baal, in the net against Aloquirbe. I'm glad he figured that out. If not, I might have gone over there myself to slap Mr. Stenin silly to get it through his thick skull that Polov is NOT cut out for this.

And then there's the defense. Why Stenin is intent on starting Alexander T'voni over Lance Smith, I have no idea, but he does it anyway, and thus, the Polkopian defense suffers greatly from it. I'm not saying that the other defenders are doing their part, but I feel as if though Lance Smith and the rest of the Polkopian defense have a much better chemistry together than - and excuse me here - the cluserfuck that results when you put T'voni as a central defender. I've heard people in the streets already call him "Lord T'voni". He's earned himself quite the reputation here, and I can guarantee you that this nickname will stick if he continues playing like this.

And finally, the useless yellow card on Polgov. I understand that you're frustrated. I get it. I really do. But when you go out of your way to argue with a referee on a decision that cannot be reversed, what do you really expect? I mean, at a certain point, there's a fine line between making a point, and being downright stupid with your decisions, and I'm afraid that Polgov stepped over that line.

Maybe I'm just overreacting a bit. Maybe I'm just a little bit bitter here. Who knows? Anyway, next time, the Polkopian team faces Aloquirbe at home. Aloquirbe currently sits at 7th place, with three points, while Polkopia is kicked out of second place and into 5th place, with the likes of Pays d'en Haut, Darvale, and Karditan all jumping ahead of them. Polkopia will need to win this one if they can expect to have a chance at qualifying. Best of luck to the Polkopian side. "Asha on olme yo, Polkopiya!"

THE BRINEMOUTH HERALD
THE FIRST CORMORANTS - WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
by Theodora Kenway

What happened to the first Cormorants?

With none of them still playing professional football after the retirements of Brightley and Fitzmarten, it seems an appropriate time to look back on the Baptism of Fire winning squad. A strange team to look back on it, masterfully balanced between club sides, with Sabrefell Moths, Sabrefell Athletic (back then the two biggest teams in the league), Crisisbless, AFC Treason each having four representatives in the squad. Was it a political move? Gethin Ramsey's always denied this, but with a team representing such a fractured state as New Sideburn used to be, it's a realistic and reasonable assumption that he was at least keeping the placation of the Big Four (and thus Treason, Crisisbless and both west and east Sabrefell) in mind.

The tactics were strange, too. This was back when Gethin Ramsey was a motivator beyond compare, but it took him some hard lessons - 7-0 to Sicoutimont perhaps the hardest - before he learned how to get the best from his squad. The Cormorants won the Baptism of Fire through hard running, muscle, and a mixture of pace on the wings (and with Scabbard up front) and a resolute spine of veterans. It was fluid, often ill-disciplined, and the defence was incredibly leaky at first until the midfield narrowed, Oakwood was trained to join the defence when the fullbacks pushed up and the defence gained chemistry. But there was an exuberant attacking presence in a squad desperate to break upfield and score. They were an exciting team to watch... at both ends.

And, of course, there were many controversial omissions outside of political concerns. A personal spat with Brighton Lovelock, who would surely have walked into this team's midfield after his move to Earent (albeit relegated in his first season) was one factor. But despite that, somehow, this team was good enough.

So for these 23 heroes, some long forgotten but all with a part to play, it's time at last to roll back the years and find out... where are they now?

1 - Goalkeeper - Asger Stubbs - Sabrefell Moths
Won seven caps before retiring internationally just prior to the Cup of Harmony. Finished his club career for the Moths soon afterwards - remains the oldest player in Premiership history at 40. Went into coaching, but his stint as Moths manager was a failure. Yet to re-enter the lead role with any club, but that remains his ambition. Reached just seven modern caps, keeping a solitary clean sheet in Nephara's first match against Saintland, despite being Nephara's undisputed number one for so many years before joining the WCC.

2 - Rightback - Anna Shrike - Crisisbless
Much-maligned in that first year due to a lack of fitness and a suicidally-aggressive nature, Shrike eventually shaped up in the second half of qualifying and fought hard to make the number 2 her own. Improved dramatically with time, eventually winning a transfer to Mâ Âlâmëómë and internationally retiring on a high, with the third Campionato Esportiva victory at the age of 33, with 126 caps and 7 goals.

3 - Centreback - Lukas Strongnesse - Sabrefell Athletic
Inspirational captain at the time, Strongnesse was a sprightly 36 by the time of the tournament, and went on to win 50 caps with four goals. A bulwark at the back and a taciturn, reliable penalty taker, but most of all an inspiration who united a fractious squad. Retired a couple of years later, still an Athletic regular. Now a Senator for the Progressive Democrats, explosively popular in his East Sabrefell seat.

4 - Centreback - Olga Nihil - Maximum City
Third-choice centreback, Nihil was solid and dependable. She made an ill-advised move to Vermillion just in time for them to go bankrupt and relegated, and she was frozen out of the squad midway through the season when she made public comments about the shady finances in the club. Moved back to Maximum City afterwards. Won 15 caps.

5 - Centreback - Rook Harm - Crisisbless
An unstoppable juggernaut of destruction, Harm kept playing well into his thirties - eventually picked up by Egloskerry in the ANL, which while not the greatest league in the world back then was still reasonably prominent. Now an extremely popular commentator and pundit. Everpresent in the early years, Harm ultimately won 67 caps, scoring once.

6 - Defensive Midfielder - Lucia Oakwood - AFC Treason
Started the first 80 WCC-era games Nephara played. Eventually, to nobody's surprise, became captain. Moved to Crisisbless just before Treason surprised everyone by actually winning the title (yes, back then that was a shock. They finished 7th the season before becoming champions for the first time, having just sold their captain) and became a stalwart for them before eventually internationally retiring and moving to Kingsgrove, where she closed out her career. In her last match, Kingsgrove won the Campionato Esportiviano di Campeones. Fitting for such a big-game player, whose injury-time-in-extra-time direct free kick was the winner for the Campionato Esportiva 6. Won 93 caps, scoring nine goals.

7 - Striker - Gerhard Thunder - Sabrefell Moths
Everyone knows his story. An incredibly prolific scorer for the national team (and his club), eventually winning a transfer to Astograth University. Scored 57 goals over 108 caps, including the only goal in a 1-0 win over Antoletia, Nephara's second World Cup goal and first World Cup win. He was 33 then, and went on to play in the next World Cup (although in a diminished role) before being released by Astograth University and ending his career back with the Moths.

8 - Right Midfielder - Grant Beardsley - Parrhesia United
Variously adored, maligned and overlooked, Beardsley was a surprise addition to the national team and an inconsistent performer. But he scored the goal that won the Baptism of Fire - and that one won't be forgotten. That was one of eleven he scored for the national team without contributing a whole lot else, but he still got 51 caps.

9 - Striker - Alicia Scabbard - Crisisbless
The quick lass to Thunder's big lad, Scabbard was dynamic early on before eventually fading a little. Still scored 22 times for the national team over 49 matches, even if she did eventually wane in prominence. A Crisisbless mainstay for years before ending her career with Ritter Town.

10 - Attacking Midfielder - Dale Brightley - Basin Plain
His massive talent was evident early on for Southfell United, so evident that Basin Plain was quick to pick him up. He became a mainstay for what was, then, one of the best clubs in the world - as well as for the national team, winning 116 caps and scoring 42 goals, including Nephara's first ever goal in a World Cup (against the Polar Islandstates). Fell out of favour with Plain in his early thirties as Plain itself fell out of favour with UICA, and returned to Southfell a hero. He's been their inspiration ever since, and has only just retired after three seasons as the keystone of the team.

11 - Left Midfielder - Cheney Rosewood - Sabrefell Moths
The flamboyant but effective winger was a mainstay for the early Cormorants, arguably its best player. Surprisingly, though, he never played club football abroad, spending his peak years in the Moths before ending his career with the Coret Hawks. With 79 caps, he was an iconic figure back then, scoring 14 times.

12 - Goalkeeper - Portia Thrift - Crisisbless
Another iconic figure, and Nephara's most-capped goalkeeper with 78 caps. Keeping 28 clean sheets over that time, Thrift might have been aging by the time of the Baptism of Fire, but she made up for fading reflexes with a positioning sense bordering on the supernatural. Finished her career for Riverside, winning her last three caps in Campionato Esportiva 8 at the age of 38. That age seems like a strange glass ceiling of sorts for the national team, given that Stubbs and Strongnesse also reached it but none have been capped at 39. Currently the Nepharim goalkeeping coach.

13 - Leftback - Leila Corvette - Sabrefell Moths
The lean, chain-smoking leftback was a regular sight in the early squad, her more attack-minded style appealing to Ramsey's early tactics. Guaranteed you electrifying pace in a pinch, and a good cross. Joined Maximum City as the Moths lost their lustre, and ended her career there thanks largely to an incredibly short stamina. Won 56 caps, without scoring - the most capped outfielder without a goal to their name.

14 - Striker - Leyland Stallion - Southfell United
Has had a strange career. His form with Southfell (not so much with the national team - he only ever scored one goal in his seven caps, in a friendly) eventually took him to Sabrefell Athletic, where he eventually had one of the most disappointing seasons for any centre-forward in Nepharim history as defending champions Athletic managed an 11th-placed finish. Their form didn't improve, and neither did his, eventually culminating in a move back to Southfell. Enjoyed a resurgence there despite his age before finishing his career in the fledgeling league of Electrum.

15 - Striker - Bruce Payne - Vermillion Rage
Impact substitute supreme for the national team at first, with two crucial goals in the Baptism, he transferred to AFC Treason but never really entered the national frame again. Retired after a final injury-hit season for Maximum Rovers, notable chiefly for then-20-year old Reinhard Drake excelling in the match time he got. Capped 11 times, scored three.

16 - Defensive Midfielder - Pavel Ironclad - Sabrefell Athletic
A holding, playmaking midfielder, Ironclad suffered from Oakwood's uncanny reliability. That said, he won two caps, one coming on as a crucial substitute in the Baptism of Fire final. Transferred to Coret Hawks at 31, ended his career with them.

17 - Rightback - Maria Stout - Maximum City
Thirty-five years old at the time of the Baptism of Fire, Stout ultimately won nine caps for the national team, but retired soon afterwards. Went into refereeing, but has only just announced her retirement due to her age - still a distinguished player and a distinguished referee, and not many could claim both those honours. Has refereed at World Cups, and is perhaps ruing that she didn't get the chance to play in one.

18 - Defensive Midfielder - Dacia Mountain - AFC Treason
Won two caps in all, given her cover role. Retired a year later at 31 after an injury-wracked career, and went into property development. Easily the least exciting player here.

19 - Attacking Midfielder - Karelline Charmwell - Sabrefell Athletic
Spent her entire career with Athletic, getting some more chances for the national team and ultimately winning 38 caps and 10 goals in the green and black. Might not have held the talent or club Dale Brightley did, but her drive and desire took her far, and she held down her place in the whole throughout the early years.

20 - Goalkeeper - Kurtis Fitzmarten - Sabrefell Athletic
The promising but occasionally slightly ropey goalkeeper for Athletic, Fitzmarten was meant to be the man of the future but that never quite panned out for him. Eventually sold to Raven River, where he enjoyed his best form throughout his late 20s and early 30s and was eventually called up (though not capped) again. Had a season with Chenoworth Harriers before moving to Mareibat to close out his career for Halholzer Spitfires. Capped twice, once as a substitute.

21 - Striker - Tara Lockdown - AFC Treason
A surprisingly prolific striker for the national team, the lanky Lockdown (known chiefly for her blue-dyed hair) managed seven goals from 14. She continued as a consistent scorer for Treason before eventually moving to Northern Union, retiring there after two seasons at the age of 34.

22 - Leftback - Cathy Stokes - AFC Treason
Well, this is the story nobody's going to have trouble remembering. She did struggle to get onto the team at first, with the more aggressive Corvette favoured at first. But once she was the favoured option on the left, she never looked back. Never left Treason, eventually captained both club and country, with her workrate, ethic and tireless stamina multiplying her often-underestimated talent so, so far. Retired at 34, her legs simply unable to keep up with the pace of Premiership or UICA football - and she was never going to leave Treason to take a step down, either. Currently the most-capped player for the national team with 137 caps, though it's likely that Tosca Marlowe will shade it. Scored five times.

23 - Right Midfielder - Chase Wingett - Newrook Democracy
Dropped off the national team radar until a move to AFC Treason. That fizzled out in time too, despite a re-invention as an incisive left midfielder. He got twenty-four caps in the end along with four goals, but fell out of favour for the Stags and finished his career in Jeckland. A solid career. Oh, and 'Democracy' was the old name for what is now Newrook City, by the way.

Fellow Citizens 0–4 Gregoryisgodistan

"Hello, and welcome to the land of Fellow Citizens for today's World Cup Qualifying match between the hosts with a weird name and Gregoryisgodistan. With Maklohi Vai's loss to The Holy Empire earlier today, Gregoryisgodistan has a chance to move into second if they win by at least three goals or win by two while scoring at least four. A 3-1 win would put them in a tie with Jeru FC for second, level on all categories. It's a big game that could prove to be a trap since next up is the much-anticipated visit from The Holy Empire. We expect this one to be an easy win, but you never know. We only managed to beat Flick Jostle by one, so anything can happen.

"Fellow Citizens failed to publish a roster, so we're going to give them fake and highly insulting names. Soccer Captain Laredo Potato is shaking hands with their captain Stinky Bobcat, and we're about to get underway here in the weirdly-named nation that is neither fellows nor citizens.

...

"9th minute now, here comes Pervert Chaser 867530PNC. He passes it over the middle to Guy Who Cleans Up Behind The Elephant at the Circus P0120AZNNAU, who is clattered by Dumby Mumbojumo of Fellow Citizens, that will be a free kick. And Mumbojumbo is going to get a yellow card, the first of the match. Soccer Captain Laredo Potato is set to take the free kick now, but it's over the goal and will go for a goal kick. Gregoryisgodistan had a real chance there, but Soccer Captain Laredo Potato clipped the crossbar and sent it over.

...

"22nd minute, Executioner 98481 looking to clear and finds Prune Farmer 913881. Prune Farmer 913881 is coming down the right side and crosses it into the box. Somehow it gets by everyone AND IT'S IN THE NET! How did that happen? I think that was a cross - he couldn't have been trying to shoot it from there. But somehow it goes in. Maybe he was trying to shoot it. He has a smile on his face, like he knows what he was doing. Maybe that was a shot. Who knows. If it was a legitimate attempt, it's a great goal, and if it wasn't, it's very lucky. Nice job by Prune Farmer 913881 to score that goal, whether he was trying to or not. The Foot Slaves are up 1-0.

...

"37th minute, Luz Err comes streaking ahead but a brilliant slide tackle from Police Agent Jorge Warlord dispossesses him. Police Agent Jorge Warlord now gets up and tries to pass it downfield to Hacker Fred'); DROP TABLE Rosters;-- who is clattered by Clown Pants. And Pants is going into the referee's book, yep, yellow card for Clown Pants. It will be a free kick for Gregoryisgodistan, and Hacker Fred'); DROP TABLE Rosters;-- takes it. He finds Guy Who Cleans Up Behind The Elephant at the Circus P0120AZNNAU in the middle of the field about 40 yards out. Guy Who Cleans Up Behind The Elephant at the Circus P0120AZNNAU dribbling through the defense, Yuyu Lulu tries to tackle it away but fails and that gives Guy Who Cleans Up Behind The Elephant at the Circus P0120AZNNAU a clear path. He shoots, only the keeper to beat, GOAL GREGORYISGODISTAN! Guy Who Cleans Up Behind The Elephant at the Circus P0120AZNNAU scores the goal after a couple cheekly little moves. It's 2-0 Foot Slaves here in the 38th minute!

...

"44th minute and it's a throw in for Gregoryisgodistan. Guy Who Cleans Up Behind The Elephant at the Circus P0120AZNNAU now passes it to Soccer Captain Laredo Potato in the box where he is clattered by Clown Pants - AND THEY GIVE A PENALTY! PENALTY KICK TO GREGORYISGODISTAN! Pants could get his second yellow here, yes, he will. And it will be a penalty kick for Gregoryisgodistan. A chance to go up 3-0 right before the half. Soccer Captain Laredo Potato to take - he shoots top right and it's a goal! 3-0 Foot Slaves here. What a great finish to the half.

...

"61st minute and here comes Fellow Citizens. Mumbojubo passes to Ulysses S. Fart who shoots, but smothered by Prune Farmer 3818F. He passes it up looking to counter and finds Pervert Chaser 867530PNC. Pervert Chaser 867530PNC passes it to Pervert Chaser KIS9DLLMZMAABDB, who gets it up to Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Robert Possibe making a streaking run into the box. He shoots, wide left. He should have scored there. He really should have.

...

"78th minute, corner kick taken by Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Robert Possibe. He crosses it and there is Grammar Enforcement Officer ZZNNKUMBYA to head it into the net. They've been practicing this and are getting good at it. Another set piece goal for Gregoryisgodistan and it's 4-0 Foot Slaves.

...

"And there's the final whistle. Gregoryisgodistan wins. A date with The Holy Empire awaits them tomorrow at home. That should be fun considering all the threats. We'll see you then."

Yeah, sure, Seth Greig was a bruiser.
He was a fighter. A battler. A competitor. And sure, a bit of a bastard. But Brenecia needed that steel, always had done.
And now... and now he was 34.
Damn it.
Hadn't been picked against the Empire. Hadn't been picked against Estope. But at least he could get a start here against Timbermunich, who were a more than decent team. Had to stay on his guard.
Christ, he felt slow. He winced, turning to follow the run of Great Dagger Dan who was just... jesus, so much faster than him, latching onto a forward ball, Greig had to slide to block the obvious pass to the onrushing striker...
Okay. Okay, covered. He still had it.
But he was slow and out of favour. And only getting slower. This would be his last international tournament, he knew that much now. And maybe a move back to the A-League to finish his career. That'd be nice.
Yeah.
He shouldn't be ungrateful, though. This was his sixty... seventh? Sixty-eighth? Seventieth? One of those caps. That was a lot of caps.
It was Dan coming up to take the corner. These Jacks were tall, powerful, strong. Not the most skilful, but easily with the physicality to make up for it. Brave, too. Every corner would be a threat. Fortunately, he was a match for them - muscling against their one-armed striker in the 21 shirt. One of their best players.
He could take 'em. He'd beaten better in the Premiership.
The corner swung in aimed directly for the target man, Greig got ahead of his man and rose well to head it away. Too easy - and, hell, was this a chance to hit them on the counter?
He trotted forward, subtly getting in the way of one of the Jack centrebacks who stumbled as he tried to rush back to goal. But the quick pace of the Brenecian attack was paying dividends, Camden to Cullen to Keohane, quick one-two with Connolly to get the striker past their leftback (their fullbacks had hung back after the corner, as traditional), now it was just Keohane advancing with menace as Hatchet Hawk stayed uncertain on his line, Keohane slowing, shaping for the shot...
Oh, Malta, just stick it in, their fucking rightback's gonna-
Yeah. Huge deflection off their number 4's head as he slid in to deflect (Norman? Something like that.) and out for a corner. It was something, at least. But it could've been so much more.
He started to head up the pitch. Thirty-four or not, they couldn't take this away from him.
... Maybe he could stand to be a little more graceful in accepting his status. Maybe. You had to like Brady Monroe. Homegrown lad, for once a Brenecian stolen by Nephara (for the U-21s) rather than the other way around (looking at you, Erin, he thought, though he didn't hold it against her) with a career thought ruined by a fucked knee, and he was still very slow, but he made up for it with strength. A likable, clean-shaven Christian lad, with a likable, clean-shaven Christian girlfriend. Shame his international career had only started at 27...
Ahh, for all his bitterness... he was lucky to get these chances. He wasn't the idealist Isadora was, but he did love his country, deep down. You couldn't lose sight of that, really - if you lost track of your love for your country, you'd lose everything. Not like you were getting paid much for the privilege - this was all pride.
Purrington was there at the corner - oh, Greig liked her. Respected that she played for the joy of the game. Wasn't a cynic like him. Respected that left foot, too.
He made himself strong, made his presence known. Battle - their 5 - seemed to want to get into a shoving match. Well, Greig wasn't about to be done over by that...
"Yeah? You want to fuckin'-"
Oh. Referee's whistle. Came over, seperated them... yeah, yeah, he knew the drill. Fine.
Moment he turned his back Greig shoved his face right back in the guy's neck again. Christ, these Munich guys were huge.
He watched as Purrington stepped back. Watched that left boot sweep the ball across the net...
Oh, shit.
He darted forwards - ignored the grasping hand on his shirt - and flicked his head perfectly, making the connection that, yes... ! Yes! He turned left, the goalkeeper was beaten, big Kurtis Armstrong pumping his fist...
Greig strode, confident and powerful, over to the fans who'd travelled from Brenecia to watch their team with the entire Brenecian outfield trailing elated in his wake. And he kissed the badge. Fuckin' did it, kissed the fuckin' badge. After all the dirt he'd stained and blood he'd shed on that shirt over the years, it deserved a bit of love.
Maybe there was a bit of romantic in him after all.
Puppet of Nephara.

Nil-nil, Ninety minutes in and the Xatz travels to Albaie looked set to be arguably the most boring match in the history of football. Already the pundits were shrugging shoulders at each other wondering how they could possibly garner enough footage even for a thirty second highlight reel. Seriously, nothing had happened. Xzyxrouw had dominated possession but, quite probably fueled by a drop in morale over not yet winning a game, they had done nothing with it. Albaie, in a very similar position, looked to be almost content with taking the solitary point and the game stagnated as commentators took turns to sneak forty-winks in during the game. The faint hum of snoring over the tannoy melded with a derisive booing from the fans. For two supposedly attack-minded squads, this was embarrassing.

It was Shao'Xatsihr Ahr'Xhaan's pathetic pleas which resulted in the first goal as he practically begged the Xati team to attack from the sidelines. All they needed was one goal. One goal and then three points. Three points and their first ever competitive international win. However, it was not the goal they wanted. The kamikaze push by the entire Xati eleven came to nothing. Erentsen collected the ball from a lacklustre strike by Khfufu and in his own attempt to get his team advancing, smashed the ball down the pitch. With Xowzo and Oszgha (who had earlier replaced Ruf Gruf) both far advanced down the pitch, Erentsen's long ball didn't require anything from the chasing Deberen, who allowed the ball bounce a few yards from the Xzyxrouw penalty area and then cross the goal-line, gently entangling itself in the netting. It was a few moments before the ground realised what had occured. The Albaie goalkeeper had scored with only a paltry amount of stoppage time left on the clock. Slumbering commentators were roused, the singing started again after a roughly seventy minute hiatus and the Xati team looked devestated.

However, only a fool tries to predict a Xat. Despondence gave way to anger and anger took the form of adrenaline. Given how the Xzyxrouw team had played up until this point, no-one expected what was yet to come.

From the restart, Zrha flicked the ball to Hroreq on the wing who zipped inside his marker. Back to Zrha. Zrha laid it off to Myrmynx. Albaie were on the back foot. Xatz kriss-krossing around them and no-one knew where to look or who to defend. Myrmynx chipped the ball over an out-stretched defender's leg. They were just outside the area now. On the half-volley, Myrmynx headed the ball into the path of the charging Qyumouw who left her defender behind her. Erentsen came forward to catch her just in time to see the ball again flicked to Khfufu, who neatly placed the ball into the open goal. Everything was again level and the decibels in the ground rose once again.

From the sidelines, Count Vincent was screaming for his players to defend. Meanwhile, Maoeq was blissfully unaware of the clammer, having a snooze in a corner of the dugout. Ahr was acting in his stead whilst Momo frantically tried to keep up with the various translations into Xati and trying to clarify with Ahr that "Fuckin' 'ave it!" had no sexual connotations.

From their restart, the Albaie squad aimed to maintain the possession working the ball back towards their goalkeeper whose current state of mind one could only guess at having scored the apparent winner, then conceded the equaliser within approximately 50 seconds. The Xatz were fired up now though and swarmed forward. Erentsen's hopeful clearance met with Oszgha's head in the centre circle as he pounced above Tererent. As the ball again felt gravity, it met the head of Qumgrog who directed it towards Myrmynx. Albaie were in tatters. Myrmynx to Khfufu, Khfufu dummying the one-two then back-heeling to the oncoming Zrha. Zrha flicked it on the the now advanced Myrmynx inside the penalty area but played onside by Frank Muaka. Myrmynx one-two-ed it back to Zrha who pounded the ball into the top corner from close range.

By the time Albaie set up to restart again, the final whistle blew. Once again, the ground fell silent. Shock and awe as Albaie had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. The pundits breathed a sigh of relief at actually having something to show for the game and Maoeq woke up wondering whether it was yet dinnertime.

Where are they now?

Jack Forster
Position: Right Defender
Current Age: 42
National Team Caps: 91
National Team Goals: 6

Jack Forster was a young player in the Baptism of Fire, aged only 20 at the time of the competition. He took over from Sam Lowe as the Starting right back for this competition, and never looked back from that point onwards until his retirement internationally in 576 A.T. He was an integral part of the national team, playing with the team for the first 6 qualifiers we took part in, playing in both the World Cup 64 and 65 finals tournaments, as well being part of our two Campionato Esportiva winning teams.

He was vice captain of the team for a number of years and played as captain when Olim Benzari was unavailable on 6 occasions. In addition to this his 91 national team caps is currently the second highest number, behind only the aforementioned Benzari - although Tolgus Tregajorran will likely overtake him this current World Cup.

As well as being incredibly important internationally, he was a star with his domestic team, Dwile Warriors, winning a large amount of silverware with them, including the title in his last ever season with them, in 578. After that, he moved straight into the managing staff at Dwile, gaining his coaching badges as a defensive coach under Steven Frew as manager, before graduating to become U-21 coach for the team when Moon Dust took over - a job he still holds today. He continues to lobby for the inclusion of the U-21 in the senior leagues, in a similar fashion to Project +90 and Centre for Excellence.

He has a wife and three children, the eldest of which, James Forster, is currently a member of the U-21 set-up at Dwile, having graduated to the U-21's this season as a 17 year old.

Order Returns to the Pitch

After the first three matchdays which had rocked the populace of Atrua and tested our very faith as goal fter goal rained down from the field of play on all sides, Atrua has finally returned to the light as they defeated Stvoto Latoli by a score of 1-0, also known as the “holiest score of all” in many circles, in yesterday’s play. Granted proponents of the 3-0 victory to symbolize the Trinity may still argue that this score would be far more fitting, opponents criticize the claim saying that three goals would be too Scoreological in nature and if that were accepted then they may as well return to Tynelia.

The next two matches will be key in deciding if Atrua can continue their surprising run among the leaders facing the two top seeds- first Antoletia ranked 41st and then the group’s top seed 14th ranked Farfadillis. With both matches on the road ((ooc first team listed is the home team? I always get that mixed up)) this will be a tough test for an Atruan squad that had major problems on the road last world cup though they have managed to split their first two road games beating 215th ranked Korchayak before losing to 60th ranked Carialus in Atrua’s only blemish to date. On the other hand this also means Atrua will get all three top seeds at home in the second half of the qualifiers.

And that could become key in a tightly clustered early race for the chance to advance. The top five teams are only 4 points apart with no ties between anyone at the moment and a gap already built between them and the bottom three teams of the group. Carialus has been the class of the group so far with both the most goals scored and fewest allowed in the group and sits at 10 points. Atrua actually sits in second at 9 points based on large part to our loss at Carialus and rumors of scoreological tainting which have yet to be confirmed or disproven at this time. This would be a big upset were the home team able to maintain this pace. Farfadillis, the top seed sits one point back with 8 points after rebounding from their shocking draw with Korchayk by convincingly taking out Atrua’s next opponent second seed Antoletia knocking them from second to fourth at 7 points. Rounding out the top five is Greater Watford at 6 points as they try to rally from their 0-2 start to get back into the mix.

So it looks like this will be a much more interesting run that last World Cup for our players when they were unofficially eliminated well before the halfway point of the qualifiers. This time five teams look to fight it out for two spots. Antoletia is next followed by Farfadillis- can Atrua steal any points in these upcoming matches or will they fall back to earth after their early push?

The Jeru FC coach and player L3g3nd@ry L0v3r (LL)

Coach: Well, Mr Lover boy you seem to be on a roll. Scoring goals in three games in row. Keep up the good work.
LL: Thanks coach. We're doing great!
Coach: Don't get too cocky, we have to face some really hard to beat teams later
LL: We've got a ability! We can take on anyone
Coach: Yes but we have to be at our best. Some teams can play at 50% and win
LL: I'm sure we can beat anyone

Coach: There's no room for complacency. We're still 3rd on the table and we can't afford to lose a game.
LL: We're got twice as many points as Jeruselem
Coach: Yes but they had two difficult opponents early, we've faced only one
LL: Oh yes, them Greg people
Coach: We maybe doing great now, but it can all come to screaching halt at any time
LL: Don't worry, the goals will be flowing

Coach: So far, we've been defending well but three games against weak opponents doesn't test us
LL: I'm not scared of any teams
Coach: Oh yes one thing
LL: what?
Coach: Can you please be more discrete with your ... activities
LL: I like my women, they'll come to me

Coach: In some countries, you might get in trouble. I think you'd better be careful.
LL: I'm not hurting anyone.
Coach: Not every country has such women like Jeruselem. In some places, it's the complete opposite ... like the Holy Empire for example.
LL: So what do I do?
Coach: Just ... be careful, especially overseas.
LL: That ROAW guy does the same, and he's got a girlfriend as well

Coach: I'm sure you've got a few ...
LL: Well, not official ones anyway.
Coach: I'm saying, discretion. I don't want a bad situation. You could get yourself killed, especially in places like that Greg place.
LL: OK that place was weird
Coach: Just play football, score goals and score women at home.
LL: I like overseas exotic women

There was a gentle smattering of polite applause as the team left the pitch. It hadn’t been a good result and the 40 or so people stood around the pitch at the back of the old temple had been disappointed in the way The Whites had played.

Poltergeists playing bears, it should really have attracted a bigger audience, but without a proper stadium to play in and the majority of the nation’s interest in football waning to the point of being apathetic only 3 dozen or so locals had turned up and stood around the pitch. People had turned up for what would be a sideshow attraction game of football and were treated to nothing but disappointment as the spirits of former Pocoan internationals failed to muster a decent challenge.

“Well that was absolutely dire.” Grumbled Schroeter

“I’m starting to think this is a bad idea, maybe we should just go back?” Concurred Rigobert Webo.

“Come on guys, what happened to keeping our chins up?”

“Graham, it might be time to concede this is no way to spend our afterlife.” Rudolpho looked towards Adbul, “Maybe you should send us back, put together a team of locals, we’re ruining the reputation we established for ourselves all those years ago.”

“What good is a reputation if you can’t back it up? You were one of the best central defenders in the world, in your time, how often do you think people have compared you to someone younger, fresher and said, I wonder who would be better if they’d played at the same time, now’s your chance to prove it would be you.” Abdul paused for dramatic effect. “There are 10 more games to play and 30 more points to aim for. If we pull together and work hard we could conceivably take 18 of them, which is a good return and could see us go into the Cup of Harmony.”

“If you think I’m playing in a Cup of Harmony, you are sadly mistaken. I’d rather you just sent me back to hell. I mean HEAVEN, heaven, I’ve never been to hell, must’ve been a Freudian slip, hell, you wanna talk about hell, hell’s the back of beyond, playing some dumb ‘Cup of Harmony’ game” Wilfried shifted, shiftily, and looked around the locker room, his eyes darting between each of the players in there, not making contact for long with any of them, except Aruna, who locked eyes with him before narrowing his own, knowingly knowing something he shouldn’t know.

---

Wilfried’s inner monologue kicked in straight after his slip of the tongue. Alarm bells were ringing and he was beginning to panic, the goalkeeper knew too much, he could see it written across his ghostly face, he knew he didn’t belong, but he couldn’t prove it. As long as Wilfried played it cool he’d never know that he wasn’t in fact Wilfried, there was no Wilfried, his soul had been sold a long time ago. This spirit here that had been accidentally summoned from the deepest pits of hell belonged to something entirely different. Something much worse than the man who parked in disabled parking bays, refused to pick up his dog’s leavings in the park and never, ever tipped a waiter in his life. This, right here, Beelzebob, Satan’s cousin twice removed, was much nastier than a central midfielder.

And he had big plans for Queer Poco el Mono Ara, big plans indeed.

---

The conversation had changed to the next fixture, the team, were for the most part despondent, the result against Bears Armed had been pretty unspectacular and two games without a goal had put some pressure on the misfiring strikers. Cavanaugh, Xisco and Landolfi had only registered two shots on target, between them in the last two fixtures.

“We could always try bring someone else through in time for the next game?” Suggested Gary Dicker. His suggestion however was met with looks of disgust from the three centre forwards.

“You know, you could always try crossing the ball a little earlier Gary. Maybe if we got some better service we might stand more of a chance.” Landolfi said, accusatorily looking at the wingers. Both Dicker and Wilkshire shrugged.

“You realise Cavanaugh is close to being a ghost dwarf, what’s the point in trying to find him with a lofted ball?”

“Look, guys, let’s not fall out, we’ve only played four games and there’s a long way to go yet, we’re just gelling as a team, we’ve not yet got used to each other’s way of playing yet.” Abdul interjected before looking at the other priests around him. They had an almost telepathic conversation, they knew they’d screwed up, this team just wasn’t good enough and bringing back these particular souls for one last hoorah was maybe a hoorah too far.
