Peter O'Hara: "today on sportscenter, the Southern Bears lost 13-0 against Osarius." "The Southern Democratic States will be at the Beach Cup XI" "Gregoryisgodistan leads final series 2-1 against Patistan in the World Baseball Classic 32"

Peter O'Hara again: "Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I'm Peter O'Hara, your sportscenter host. The Southerners lost 13-0 against Osarius, this is our first loss in 13 games. Osarius made a field goal early in the 1st quarter on their first drive and scored a touchdown in the 2nd quarter. So you're actually seeing the touchown on tv while I speak. And the Bears were losing 10-0 at the halftime. The Southerners almost scored in the 3rd quarter but Clifford Jenkins' pass was intercepted in the endzone. Osiarius made another field goal in the 4th quater and won 13-0."

Peter again: "Let's analyze the lost with our football expert Mandy Weber. So Mandy, what did happened?"

Mandy: "Hiiii! I think for the first time, the Bears faced a better team than them. Osarius players were better than our players, their defensive line dominated our offensive line and Coconut Riddick couldn't go anywhere. He finished the game with 53 yards on 17 rushing attempts. Osarius' defensive backs also marked our players better than the other teams we faced. Clifford Jenkins was intercepted twice, it was the 2nd and 3rd interceptions against him in 13 international games and he was sacked 5 times."

Peter: "so what can SDS do now?"

Mandy: "The Bears needs to regroup and forget this loss and keep looking forward. Our next game is at home against Eritai. We're expecting a sellout crowd at SouthEx Field in Floydsburg. The Southerners can beat Eritai, they already beat them twice but they shouldn't underestimate them. I trust coach Nick Hoffman, so you can be sure that the Bears will be prepared for the game."

Peter: "Thanks for your time Mandy."

Mandy: "You're welcome."

Peter: "Now we're going to a commercial break and then we'll talk about the World Baseball Classic 32."

Sheffland 0–10 Gregoryisgodistan

"Hello, good evening and welcome to Sheffland for today's World Bowl matchup between Gregoryisgodistan and the host Sheffland. It's just about time for kickoff. Gregoryisgodistan won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Mathematics Teacher 2737ASH will kick it away, OH ONSIDE KICK. ONSIDE KICK CAUGHT SHEFFLAND COMPLETELY OFF GUARD! But there's a scrum and now Enemy Crusher Greenward von Squiredward is crushing someone on Sheffland. I can't get a uniform number, not that it would help since they didn't bother to submit a roster. Whoever it is has been crushed to death but it looks like he has the ball. First and ten Sheffland at the Grid Slaves' 46. A disastrous start for Gregoryisgodistan. Oh, and now the Enemy Crushers are storming onto the field and crushing the entire Sheffland kickoff return team as revenge for the crushing. Well, Sheffland didn't bother to submit a roster so we don't know who those guys are, but they'll just get more Shefflandites to play since that's apparently how it works there. So the entire kickoff return team has been crushed. Isn't that fun? Crushy crushy coo coo!!!!!!!!!!!

"And now the Sheffland quarterfback is dropping back to pass. It's a blitz and Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino wallops him back at his own 48 for a loss of 8. And now Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino is threatening to crush the Sheffland quarterback. Flags fly. And now Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino is having a word with the ref. Let's listen in."

"That better not be a penalty on me."

"It is, taunting."

"Call a penalty on me and I'll crush you to death."

"Ok, I'll pick up the flag."

"No, it's too late for that. Call a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct on him for insulting an Enemy Crusher's honor or I'll crush you."

"I can't do that."

"Oh, now Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino is moving menacingly towards the official."

"Ok, fine, I'll call it.

"Unsportsmanlike conduct, insulting an Enemy Crusher's honor, number 11, offense, 15 yards from the end of the play, the down counts, second down."

"So with that, it's second and 33. What brilliance by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino. He got the ref to change the penalty to the other team. He is truly a brave and noble Enemy Crusher. Let's give him a medal. And now the quarterback drops back to pass and is in trouble, he keeps running back, now runs left, back again, just trying to escape, and now Enemy Crusher Jorgen von Streudel finally brings him down at the Sheffland 11 for a loss of 22. Why didn't he just go down? Anyway, it's third and 55. I've never seen so many yards to go but so be it. And now the quarterback is dropping back to pass out of the shotgun, again it's a blitz and Enemy Crusher Jurgen von Streudel sacks him in the end zone for a safety. It's a safety to make it 2-0. Gregoryisgodistan leads thanks to that safety. Great job by the Enemy Crushers. Three straight sacks and forcing the referee to call a penalty on the opposing team. And now the Enemy Crushers are running into the stands and crushing random Sheffland fans to celebrate the safety. This is fun. Crushing and crushing and crushing some more, crushing and crushing and I want some more!

...

"Sheffland has the ball at their own 14, first and 10, 5:09 left in the second quarter, quarterback dropping back to pass, and Enemy Crusher Piotr von Porker jars the ball loose, it's rolling into the end zone, and Sheffland will just fall on it for a safety. 4-0. How often do you see a team with 4 points in football? It almost never happens but it's happened here and Gregoryisgodistan up by 4.

...

"Game winding down now, 1:09 to go, still 4-0 and the ball is at the Sheffland 21. The quarterback drops back to pass, and it's stripped again by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino. He will scoop it up himself and run in for a touchdown. Now he's taunting the fans. Now he's crushing the fans. Now he's crushing the official. Now he's crushing some more Sheffland players. Another ref throws a flag and now another Enemy Crusher is crushing Sheffland players and fans, leading to more flags. And there are about 9 dead Sheffland players, 300 dead Sheffland fans, and a dead referee, and all the Enemy Crushers are to blame. But it was good work by them. It's all over so they won't care about the flags. Let's listen in anyway."

"There are multiple fouls on the play. Because they are unsportsmanlike and occurred separately, they will all be enforced. They are all after the play, so the touchdown counts. They will be enforced on the extra point. Unsportsmanlike conduct, taunting, number 98, scoring team, 15 yards. Unsportsmanlike conduct, contact with an official, number 98, scoring team, 15 yards. Those two penalties bring the ball to the 32 yard line for the try. Additionally, we have unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct to an opposing player, number 98, scoring team, 15 yards. That brings the ball to the 47 yard line. Unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct to a fan, number 97, scoring team, 15 yards. That foul brings the ball to the Gregoryisgodistan 38 yard line. Additionally, unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct to a spectator, number 96, scoring team, 15 yards, bringing the ball to the 23. All further fouls will be half the distance to the goal. Unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct towards an opposing player, number 92, scoring team. Unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct to an opposing fan, number 90, scoring team. Unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct to an opposing player, number 91, scoring team. Unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct towards an opposing player, number 99, scoring team. Finally, unsportsmanlike conduct, violent conduct towards an opposing player, number 93, scoring team. Numbers 97, 96, 90, 91, 92, 93, 98, and 99 are all ejected. As a result of all the penalties, the ball will be placed at the Gregoryisgodistan one half yard line for the point after attempt. Game clock operator, please put 51 seconds on the clock."

"Wow, so the entire defensive line, starters and backups, have been ejected. Thankfully there are still offensive linemen to block. But what will they call? They'll just spike it since it's far too long to try anything else. Obviously it's no good. And now there's another fight. Gregoryisgodistan put in ten Enemy Crusher offensive linemen, the starters and the backups, and just had one of them snap it to the quarterback who spiked it. And now they're all crushing Sheffland opposing players and fans and the officials. And now 8 more Sheffland players and 591 more Sheffland fans are dead and there are a ton of flags. Let's listen in.

"After the play, unsportsmanlike conduct, the entire offensive line. They are all ejected. The fouls will all be enforced as they were unsportsmanlike and after the play. This means the kickoff will be taken from the Gregoryisgodistan one half foot line. By rule, nobody on the kicking team may line up outside of the end zone."

"And here's the kick, it will go down to the Sheffland 30 and here's the return, he gets out to the 40 and midfield before he's stopped. And Gregoryisgodistan has no defensive line anymore so they'll just line up nobody on the line and maybe blitz a couple linebackers? They're in the 0-3-8 right now with Navy SuperAdmiral Q-Bert McFee lined up as a seventh defensive back along with Navy SuperAdmiral Booboo McZebra. And the snap, sure enough two linebackers rush, quarterback has all day to throw but nobody's open, throws, and now it's picked off by Navy SuperAdmiral Booboo McZebra. The last wide receiver on the depth chart, playing defensive back due to a large number of ejections, picks it off at the 13. There are 31 seconds left and Sheffland has no timeouts so a kneeldown ends it. But Gregoryisgodistan has no more offensive linemen so they're lining up their linebackers, starting and backup, as offensive linemen plus one as a tight end, then two other tight ends, and two backs in the backfield to pick up if the quarterback fumbles. He doesn't, he kneels, and it's over. Gregoryisgodistan wins again!"

Regulars lose sloppy one in Dunnmaar
Jeckland wins on kick-off return TD

The Regulars lost at home to Jeckland in what head coach Baeryk Vaalburger called "one of the sloppiest performances [he had] ever seen." Neither offense found the end zone as Jeckland's offense was shut down on a snowy day, while the Regulars' had two touchdowns and two field goals called back on what many considered questionable calls.

The snowstorm exceeded forecasts with considerable accumulation and high winds during the game, effectively eliminating both team's passing attacks; the Regulars ran 57 plays, and of those, 51 were runs. By contrast, Jeckland ran 51 plays, of which 45 were runs. Once it became clear that field crews could not clear snow fast enough to keep it from impeding players' movement, Vaalburger shut down tailbacks Daanyl Wyndhorst and Anna Eriklunn, leaving most of the load on Graagur Baaltrsunn, Brandt Hendriks, and Torren Tormundsunn. Hendriks was shut down after he fumbled twice, and Baaltrsunn ended up tallying 22 rushes for 101 yards, while Tormundsunn rushed 15 times for 72 yards. Hendriks rushed five times for 6 yards with two fumbles, while Wyndhorst had 9 rushes for 30 yards, all supplemented by Bryndyn Harlaw's 0/3 day and Leif Eriksunn's 2/3 for 4 yard, totaling 212 yards. Meanwhile, Jeckland had a total of 171 yards.

But the Regulars ultimately lost because of one fumble return, when Brandt Hendriks lost the ball at the Allamunnic 18, Tom Morris scooped it up, and ran the ball back 18 yards in the confusion for the touchdown. The single score would prove to be enough, as the Regulars would be frustrated by poor spots and questionable penalty calls, harmed by the poor visibility.

The first of the touchdowns to be wiped out was in the first quarter, where Baaltrsunn followed Tormundsunn 8 yards into the end zone. A holding call on Daanyl Bloem, however, saw the score get called back, along with a loss of ten yards. From there, a bad snap pushed the Regulars back further, and they were denied on two more attempts, before Kynyks missed a 41-yard field goal courtesy of high winds and a slippery ball.

Later in the quarter, another field goal also got called back on a suspect holding call; replays showed no holding actually occurred on the play, but Jecklander players slipping in the snow at the line of scrimmage gave the appearance of illegal blocks occurring, and the Regulars were pulled out of field-goal range. The same thing would happen again in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter, a potential game-tying touchdown was called back. After throwing a stiff-arm on the 2, Tormundsunn was flagged for facemasking, and the play was called back. Again, the Regulars' drive stalled, and the field goal attempt was foiled by high winds and slippery conditions.

Part of what made the loss especially biting was the fact that the Regulars effectively stifled Jeckland's offense. As ineffective as the Allamunnic attack was, Jeckland accomplished even less, never even reaching the end zone to have it called back. Similar to the Regulars' struggles, they saw their kicker miss four field goals for similar reasons, due to the poor conditions. Similarly, John Reid lost two fumbles in the slippery conditions, further contributing to the general strong defensive performances and offensive futility.

Interestingly, Bryndyn Harlaw actually got the start, and Torren Waalturs called plays on the first drive. After dialing up three straight poorly-thought-out passes, Waalters was sent to the locker-room along with a limping Harlaw, and Vaalburger called plays to Leif Eriksunn for the rest of the game.

The loss puts Jeckland in the lead of Group 11, and the Regulars' final two games become must-wins. Not only do the Regulars need to win against both Mieraskya and Farlandria, they need to win big if they hope to overtake Jeckland.

"We had a chance to put ourselves in the driver's seat to win the group, and we failed in that," Vaalburger told reporters. "There is nobody to blame outside this team and this coaching staff, and we need to win out if we want to be in good position when the draw is done for the second group stage," he elaborated.

Breaking: At his weekly press-conference, head coach Baeryk Vaalburger announced that offensive coordinator Torren Waalturs had been dismissed from the coaching staff. Waalturs will be replaced as offensive coordinator by offensive line coach Hanrik Wurfytur. Vaalburger will take over play-calling duties for the offense.

He also announced that Leif Eriksunn would be the starting quarterback for the remainder of the World Bowl, barring injury.

Another somewhat surprising statement was made at the press-conference.

"After discussion with [Allamunnic Sporting Commissioner] Hadley [Thornburger], we are extending an offer to the Schottian National Gridiron Team and its coaching staff to practice and train with our own team and staff for the remainder of this World Bowl cycle, and in preparation of the next one," Vaalburger announced. "It is always good to foster the sport around the world, and to help our neighbors as they build their own program."

Leviathans on Tour

"The start of something new."

By Lewis Patterson
5th February 2015

Two wins and two defeats. That's the sum total of our efforts so far, in the first World Bowl group stage. Our last match, a surprisingly comfortable 44-0 win against Jecatria means the group is evenly poised going into our pivotal second match against Abanfleft. A win there would see us pick up some valuable points in our bid to qualify. This tournament looks like it is falling into a familiar pattern for us, where we seem to be able to beat most of the sides at our level, with little or no tradition of the sport, however we can't do anything with the bigger teams.

It has been a great learning curve for all the players in the squad, and now we are even able to look back on our time in Gregoryisgodistan objectively. Playing abroad in big tournaments is so different to playing back home. This experience has helped me realise just how uncompetitive our domestic league is. We don't just need additional funding if we are going to progress the sport in Schottia, we need a whole change in attitude in the way we play and the way we bring greater challenge and competition to our league structure.

This may be a case of looking at Allumunnic States model, or the Western Belisarian League, to try and find out what our neighbours are doing at grass roots. As one of the great champions of the sport in Schottia, I am trying to look at this tournament as the beginning of something. It's going to be a very long and bumpy road from here, trying to teach the sport in schools, build up a fan base, look at helping our best players turn professional. Whatever happens over the coming weeks it is important to look back on this experience as a positive thing.

We will get the chance to see how these things work up close soon enough, as we have been invited to train alongside our regional neighbours the Allumunnic States, for the rest of the tournament. The coaches and training regime they have access to is far beyond anything that we have at our disposal. More than the chance to develop as players however, I think the experience of playing alongside world-class, full-timers will be the most important thing for our young players.

I also want to make it known publicly just how grateful we all are to Hadley Thornburger, the Allumunnic Sporting Commissioner, for allowing this to take place. A massive thank you to him and all the Alluminnic team for their generosity.

The next day, Ignatius got a phone call from Clancy.
"The boss liked the idea. Giving that the competition is so soon, he's going to try and rush it through. Oh, and he want's me to get a scouting team together. So tell me, how would you like some extra work?"
Ignatius almost dropped the phone. "Wait, you want me?"
"Well, why not? You had some pretty good ideas about what we're looking for, and it was your idea in the first place."
"Well, what about my work here? I have a lot of work to do."
"Here's the deal. If this goes through, we get a considerable amount of funding. You've been complaining KMU's been underfunded for years, now is your chance to get a massive chunk of money as the home of Barunia's newest national team. Think about it."
"Ok, what would I need to do?"
"Get down to sports events and look at players. If you spot anyone of interest, get me names and details and we can follow up."
"Any ideas on where to start looking?"
"Well you said rugby, so go with that. Of course, the most obvious place is your backyard. Any players in your rugby program want to switch over, you just let me know."
"Ok, I'll ask around."

Toucans Win Ugly Game, Stay Undefeated

Postby The Fair Republic » Thu Feb 05, 2015 5:50 pm

It was not a pleasant day in Britonisea today. Torrential rainfall and winds reaching up to 20 miles per hour almost led the game to be called off. However the teams still played despite the conditions. To say that the conditions affected the game was an understatement. The wind made passing through the air almost impossible and the rain, mud and general poor conditions of the field led to missed blocks and tackles. This was evident in the first half of the game. With Both Teams combining for 120 yards and 5 turnovers, the score was tied at the half. Adrian Crawford was able to run it in halfway into the 3rd quarter to break the scoreless tie. Britonisea was able to respond with a field goal early in the 4th quarter but the Toucans held on to the ball and were able to run out the clock clinching the ugly 7-3 victory. Buck Natters said, "It wasn't the best weather out there today but credit has to be given to the guys here for playing their hardest and were able to come out with the victory. Now we have 2 games to go and if all goes well we could be able to clinch a 1st pot birth if TImbermunich is defeated. We can't slow down now, we are getting closer to our go to put ourselves into a position to make a run deep into this thing."

Scoring Summary:
3rd Quarter:
TFR: 17 yard run by Adrian Crawford. (7:21) 7-0 TFR
4th Quarter:
B: 33 yard field goal (6:59) 7-3 TFR
3rd Place-RUWC 23
Runner Up-RUWC 25

Walamzia Wins 16-7

Mark Edgar led the charge in the final few seconds of the game to score Walamzia's only touchdown of the game as he sneaked it across the goal line to make it harder for Arrea to come back. With seconds to go, Arrea needed a touchdown to even stay alive in the game, and J.D. McCoy came up with a huge stop on 3rd down to force them to punt the ball away. Coach Taylor lamented the offense's inability to finish drives off in this game, saying that the game shouldn't have even been that close, especially at home. In other news, Wazzaniga is back from injury and he was on the field for passing plays only.

Here are your other headlines from the past day:

Tyler Back in Cadenza

At 4:30PM today, Ashley Tyler arrived back in Cadenza to prepare for his first round match of the Cadenza Clay Trophy. Tennis insider Jake Peters is reporting that Tyler is in good spirits and does not show excessive fatigue from his trip back.

Hockey Team Rests Today

The hockey team had their bye round in the World Cup of Hockey today. It is reported that Coach Marty Nelson played a Skype video to his players from the Juniors coach earlier today, wishing them luck in the remaineder of the tournament.

Gregoryisgodistan 24–0 DBostick

"Hello, and welcome to Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium. Today's World Bowl game features DBostick and your glorious Grid Slaves. Let's get ready to go now. The Enemy Crushers are ready, the teams are ready, it's time for kick. DBostick has won the coin toss and elected to defer, so Gregoryisgodistan will get the ball to start out. Navy SuperAdmiral Q-Bert McFee is back deep to return but the kickoff sails through the end zone for a touchback. It will come out to the 20.

"Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH drops back to pass, now he's going to scramble right, now he pitches it to the back Slavecatcher ZN39000ASD who runs left, the defense has him surrounded in the center of the field, and now he's going to throw it upfield. Caught by a wide open Tank Driver SUIERUA95 at midfield, he has nothing but green in front of him. He'll take it to the 40, 30, 20, 10, touchdown Gregoryisgodistan. Beautiful trick play. It appears to be a double reverse lateral, which didn't fool the defense for long. They were about to get to him in the backfield when suddenly he threw it about 40 yards upfield from where he was, or 30 yards past the line of scrimmage. The tight end was wide open and easily made it into the end zone. Had them all fooled. Wow. What a tremendous start to this game. The extra point is good and it's 7-0 Gregoryisgodistan.

...

"3:09 left in the first quarter. DBostick's quarterback drops back to pass from his own 30, hit as he throws by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino and it's picked off at the 45 by Defected Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher. He'll be tackled right there but it's an interception for Gregoryisgodistan and the first turnover of the day. Excellent pressure by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino to force that one.

"And now Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH drops back to pass. He throws over the middle and it's caught by backup left tackle Enemy Crusher Ulysses Encherido, who was lined up as an eligible receiver on the play. He'll get down to the 20 before being tackled. But there's a flag on the play. Let's listen in."

"Pass interference, offense number 67. Ten yard penalty from the previous spot, replay first down."

"Enemy Crusher Ulysses Encherido is not happy with that call on him. Not happy at all. And he's going to crush the official who made it. As the crowd chants "DEATH TO THE REF", Enemy Crusher Ulysses Encherido is crushing him and now he has been crushed. But the penalty will stick and that backs up the ball to the Gregoryisgodistan 45. First and 20.

...

"7:37 left in the second quarter, DBostick's quarterback drops back to pass again, throws right and it's picked off by Pervert Chaser NSBGAGD at the 35. He goes out - no, he made a great move to stay in bounds and turn about 90 degrees and head forward toward the middle of the field. He's going to take it in now for a touchdown! 35 yard return by Pervert Chaser NSBGAGD. Let's look at that again. He's heading out of bounds because of his momentum, then basically twirls on one foot, rotates 90 degrees, somehow keeps his balance and starts heading at a 45 degree angle away from the sideline. DBostick is stunned. The PAT is good. 14-0 Gregoryisgodistan.

...

"9:40 left in the third quarter, DBostick's quarterback hit and the ball pops loose. Enemy Crusher Yorgen von Streudel falls on it at the DBostick 30. And to celebrate, he's crushing the DBostick quarterback. Yep, the DBostick quarterback is dead now and will have to be replaced on the next possession. Meanwhile, Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH hands it off to Pervert Chaser A00312939 who rushes for about a yard to the 29. Second and nine. Good job by the defense snuffing that out. And now Grammar Enforcement Officer SLS399SSH throws right, over the head of Navy SuperAdmiral Q-Bert McFee, incomplete. Third and nine. Bad pass there. He'll drop back again, throwing for Air Force SuperCaptain Peter Karfee, but it's broken up. 4th and 9, here comes Mathematics Teacher 2737ASH for the 46 yard field goal. The kick is up and it is good. 17-0 Grid Slaves. Three possession game now.

...

"11:36 left in the game. DBostick's quarterback drops back to pass from his own five on first and 10, looking, now hit by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino and the ball pops loose. It will be fallen on in the end zone by Chef ASHBA13 for the touchdown. And Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino will not get off the quarterback. He's crushing him to death. That's two DBostick quarterbacks crushed today. The extra point is good and it' 24-0.

...

"1:02 left and DBostick has 4th and 11 at the Gregoryisgodistan 49. They have no timeouts so if they don't get it, Gregoryisgodistan can kneel twice and end it. As it is, it's pretty much over. Here's the snap, Grid Slaves bring a blitz, Enemy Crusher Jurgen von Streudel sacks the quarterback, and Gregoryisgodistan will take over on downs. They'll kneel on it and it will be over. Gregoryisgodistan improves to 5-0 with five straight shutouts. Wow."

Ignatius had asked around, and gotten some responses from is players. Most were just interested in playing for a national team, rather than having an actual interest in the sport, but that was fine with him. Ignatius never expected finding gridiron fans who could play in Barunia to be easy. Then Jack had come along.

Jack was a student at Karl Marx who'd actually played the game, but as he was a foreign student and not Barunian he couldn't play for the country. Ignatius had tried to sign him up as coach, but Jack was going back home in the next month. But before he left,Jack had given Ignatius some pointers on how to train a gridiron team. Over the next six months Jack became Ignatius' guru, answering all Ignatius' questions through emails and video calls. Armed with Jack's knowledge and his own experiences as a rugby coach, as well as all the online resources he could lay his hands on, Ignatius had developed Barunia's first gridiron program.

If the George had been the birthplace of gridiron in Barunia, then KMU's Sanderson Common Hall was where it grew. Ignatius and Clancy had had regular meetings there, as well as with Jack when he was there. Others were brought into the circle as the project grew: David McCall, who acted both as coach and player, was the first; followed soon after by Chris Ryall, who would become the Sea Cows' special team coach. David was the first signing to Barunia's gridiron team. At first, it seemed that they would not get eleven players to form a team, let alone the large numbers seen by more interested nations. But they persevered, watching game after game of rugby, finding the best players. Chris proved invaluable there; as a rugby coach, he had contacts the others didn't have.

They'd expanded on Ignatius' original idea of including players from other sports than rugby. Marc DeLeon had been his first non-rugby signing, on the suggestion of Simon Korb that "one of my mates that does judo might be interested." The judoka had been interested, and Ignatius was more than happy to sign a 115 kilogram athlete who knew how to hit hard and clean. Seeing the potential that Marc could bring, Ignatius began to scout out judo dojos. He found three other players there: Cameron Anderson, Fernando Miranda and Damon O'Leary.

Armed with nothing but a basic idea of the physical make-up and skill set of the player they wanted, the scouting was hard work. Add to that they had no budget, and they were essentially asking people to compete for nothing more than the glory of a sport none of them had ever played. Yet remarkably, almost miraculously, one after another said yes.

"Neu Engollon...I'm Dom Toglani with you here on the NETV Sports 19 Update. We will get to the ATP Astyrian Series in a few...but first, a quick update on the Ibex Gridiron team in the World Bowl. I don't think its an understatement to say that we're all a little bit shocked at how well they're doing in the Group stage right now. With the dismal year that Neu Engollon has had in International sports, ATP tennis included, it's a bit refreshing that we're doing so well in a sport that the Confederacy is not traditionally known for excelling at. Let's not jinx it, though, as there's still a long road ahead if they can even make it out of the Group and onto the next stage.

A lot of this can be chalked up to quarterback Colin Renaud being able to make so many pass completions to Prinz and Caruso, as well as some spectacular running from Mario Favager, who started his sports career as a rugby league winger.
Witness Favager's most recent 3 TDs in the game against Zitru, a fellow Astyrian nation. The last one where he made a 34 yard gain after dodging two tackles and shaking a third with almost no blocking assistance. Favager has been on fire, and he has been well supported by the on point blocking from his offensive teammates, when he does let them keep pace.

Speaking of Zitru, that game stunned a lot of regional analysts, as gridiron football is much more established in the United States of Zitru than here in the Confederacy. The biggest competition and block to advancement will continue to be Nassau Hessen in Group 13...and the rocket arm of the 20th ranked nation's first string QB. More coverage after the break, then on to some not so welcoming news from Cadenza and the ATP Open..."

WALAMZIA STUNS CONSUMAR 20-7 IN WORLD BOWL

A sell-out crowd stormed the field at the final whistle as Walamzia defeated Consumar, the 12th-ranked team in the tournament, 20-7 at the Vrankel Motors Stadium in Calacea. Mark Edgar threw for 2 TDs in under 6 minutes in the 3rd quarter to break Consumar's back after they had led 7-6. Coach Taylor sat down (or rather stood within a few feet of) with Francis Coleman after the game. Some of the interview is not transcribed well due to the overwhelming crowd noise in the background.

FC: Coach, how did -- play?
BT: I couldn't hear. How did who play?
FC: Mark
BT: Oh, he led us to victory tonight, there's no question. But we gotta leave the celebrating to -- uh-- these fine people standing around us.
FC: You're not going to celebrate?
BT: I'll leave that to the players, but I will remind them that we have another game coming up, so don't get too excited about this.

Melody Vrinkel interviewed Mark Edgar in the locker room.

MV: Mark, what are your thoughts after that game?
ME: Well, I'm glad football's making the regular evening news for once. [slight laugh] We played well, but I'm not the hero. Our defense played amazing tonight, but we have to give the game ball to all of our fans for making this arena the loudest place in Walamzia all throughout the game.
MV: [hears something in her earpiece] Well, I've just been told that Ashley Tyler's tennis match is about to start. We will take you live immediately following this interview. Mark, any last words?
ME: You got this, Ash!
MV: Tremendous show of support from one national hero to another tonight. Now, we take you live to Cadenza for continuing coverage of the Cadenza Clay Trophy.

Quebecois Football Chat- #QFC50 Top Football Team Rankings (1)

For the 12th year in a row, the Quebecois Football Chat (QFC) is pleased to bring you the rankings known as the #QFC50. Over 1,100 high school teams look forward to make it their season this year, and we are proud and honoured to cover the coaches, players and supporters of the Quebecois High School football.

#1 Frere-Andre-Maheux Saints (DUPONT, SAGUENAY)
New Head Coach, Ian-Luca Manari, summed up this year's goal as to win it all. The team returns most of the starters from last year's AAA Final squad that barely lost to Jonquiere-Nord. Heading the list are #QFC100 players including Quarterback Kurt Goh, Wide Receiver Jean-Ian Goulding, linebackers Luc Kettner and Marc-Andre Balmont.

#2 Montclair Knights (OUTREMONT, MONTREAL)
A perennial top 10 team in the #QFC50 rankings, the Knights are once again led by legendary Chad Maciola. Loaded with talent, the squad lost a couple of stars to graduation, as Didie Adekele (LG/DT) and Bruce Korner-Parkes (RB/P) have each moved on to Acadia and Kingston for university. Despite the losses, the team still has two-thirds of the team returning and should be going for something big this season.

#3 Shinsaimdang College Seonbis (YOOLGOK, ONTARIO)
With the absence of a top #QFC50 star on its roster, the Northeast-Ontarian school is a notable oddity once again, as they are back in the top 10 for the 2nd straight year, after a surprising Provincial AAA Championships last November. The team, with a massive depth and promising youths whom are not exceptional in talent, but very formidable under Coach Yool Jang(장율)'s , currently known as the most brilliant of tacticians in Quebecois High School football. Players to watch are Chan Yool Thibodeau (DE), Min Jae Song (WR) and Connor Metatawabin (QB).

#4 Lionel-Honore Taschereau Lions (DIEPPE, ACADIE)
The two-time 4A Acadian champions look to make it three in a row, in 2018. Led by three #QFC50 stars, Connor Alzner (QB), Marc Connaughton (WR) and Devin Mao (DT), they will be on their way to the promised land once again.

#5 Frederick Sullivan Imperials (JOONGANGDONG, QUEBEC)
The last year's Capital Bowl champions come back with even greater strength than last season. Playing a tight defensive system under coach Connor Hutchins, led by trio of defensive linemen Myeong Seok Park, Se Hoon Ji and Kris D'Iberville, the team will be very difficult to score on. Their season just began with a 7-0 victory over Koreana College Seahawks, another top 50 team in the rankings in 9,500-seater Stade Centrale.

#6 Gippsland Rams (BATHURST, ACADIE)
When you have Daniel Ipsen as the starting Quarterback, there's no way a team isn't going to be in Top 10. Nuff said.

#7 Sussexville Seahawks (SUSSEX RIVER, ACADIE)
Sussexville, the previous year's champions, look to be once again on contention for the Provincial Championship title. The Seahawks, with self-titled "Beast Mode" Robert Gormley (Running Back) and "Young Thug" Bernard McTavish (Defensive End) in charge of the offence, already won first two games of the season with 56-12 and 24-1 victories over local rivals.

#8 Magog Harfangs (MAGOG, ESTRIE)
A rising power in tight, compact Estrien HS football, Magog looks to improve from last season, when they were undefeated in regular season (7-0), only to lose in Stanstead-Sherbrooke South Division Finals by a missed field goal. Leading the team will be #QFC100 entrant Jarred Lebill, a star-studded Defensive Tackle. They won their first game of the regular season against Stanstead College, 15-3.

#9 Keeswatin Bay Raiders (KEESWATIN COUNTY, NORTHWEST)
Some players have moved on, some coaches have found moved on, but the top #QFC 17 class Quarterback Mateo Savic is still here. Team is retooling a bit, but the Raiders nonetheless are going to be in contention for provincials.

#10 Henri Bourassa Titans (MONTREAL, MONTREAL)
Coach Felix Hamel's team won its first victory over North Montreal 24-8. Lots of returners from last year's provincial championship squad should make them a heavy favourite, as the graduating class of footballers looks to be the biggest and may be the best yet for this rising football program. Expect big things from Claude Ihanza (RB/DE/P), Spencer Ahn-Hyuk (WR/DT) and Karim Boutin (QB).

Second Group Stage Preview

Postby The Fair Republic » Sat Feb 07, 2015 5:39 pm

The Fair Republic Toucans, after finishing with a 5-1 record won group 2 and thus were placed into the first pot for the second group stage. Now we will look at each team that is in the Toucans Group and comparing their stats in the 1st group stage with the Toucans.

The Fair Republic Toucans (13):
The Toucans blew a chance to help their round of 16 chances by losing to Timbermuncih 20-14 but they are still in a good position nonetheless. The attack is running at a high rate but the defense has been struggling at times this World Bowl. They have a worrying ability to wear down during long drives. The defense will have to play at the top of its game if they hope that the Toucans will make a run deep into the World Bowl

1st Group Stage Record: 5-1
Points Per Game: 24.16
Points Allowed Per Game: 10.0

German Zerabithea (3):
This will be the Toucans biggest test so far in this world bowl. The Rams love to play an uptempo game and tire out the opposing defense to great success versus the Toucans when the two teams played each other in the previous World Bowl's group stage with the Rams winning 26-7. The Toucans run game will have to be excellent if they hope to control the ball and have a chance to defeat the 3rd ranked Rams.

1st Group Stage Record: 4-2
Points Per Game: 15.3
Points Allowed Per Game: 6.3

Sheffland (83):
Not much is known about the 83rd ranked Sheffland. They went 3-3 in a tough Group 12 finishing off the group with a 2 game winning streak. The Toucans are going to lose if they are going to take them lightly due to their low rank. Every win counts in this group stage as it affects who gets in to the Round of 16 for the combined overall table standings.

1st Group Stage Record: 3-3
Points Per Game: 9.16
Points Allowed Per Game: 10.83

Zitru (139):
This should be an easy win for the Toucans. Along with Seffland they have no roster and little is known about them. To say that they struggled during the 1st group stage is an understatement. They only scored 20 points in the group stage and allowed 117. Again with Sheffland if the Toucans play bad football they will lose and hurt their chances to go further into the World Bowl.

1st Group Stage Record: 0-6
Points Per Game: 3.3
Points Allowed Per Game: 19.5
3rd Place-RUWC 23
Runner Up-RUWC 25

To: Lord Almighty Gregory, Gregoryisgodistan

Dear Lord Almighty Gregory,
The glorious nation of the Southern Democratic States has been drawn into group I with Gregoryisgodistan Special Administrative Zone and we have a player who has a forbidden name, I have personally asked him to change his name again to Darius Riddick for the group stage games, even the ones not against GSAZ. We will also force him to sit the game against GSAZ on your soil. In exchange, I am asking your players to do not crush to death or dickapitate our players and coaches. Because they played the BoI in Gregoryisgodistan, our players know the rules in your country so they won't be a problem for you.

Another thing, The game between us and GSAZ that will be played in SDS will be played at Michie Stadium, home of the Army Black Knights, which holds 38,000 spectators. The stadium is located on the Southern Democratic States Military Academy site and all spectators will be soldiers and military students. They are well disciplined and wont attend the game shirtless and won't yell a forbidden word either. Crushing to death a player, referree, coach and fan (which is a soldier) and dickapitating a player, referree, coach and fan will not be tolerated on our soil and if it happens, your player will be arrested immediately. Our home games against Taeshan and Yttribia will be played in Floydsburg and Waddington respectively.

Thank you for understanding and we hope both our countries keep having a friendly relationship.

Sporting World

Bring on the Second Group Stage
by: Logan Allen

Well, we proved all of our critics wrong by winning our group in the first group stage. After our losses to New North Aqmuland and Yttribia, it looked to some like we were in trouble, but we won our final 3 games and proved that we have what it takes to be a competitive team in the World Bowl. Now, the real World Bowl starts, as we have to win 5 or 6 games to ensure ourselves of a spot in the top 16 and a trip to the Round of 16. Now, we face 3 opponents, all of which came into this World Bowl ranked 116th or worse, but that certainly doesn't mean that we can discount their obvious talent.

One of them is Pacificana Islands, who are competing in their first World Bowl and come in tied for the 116th ranking. In the Baptism of Iron, they went 4-2 in a weak group, won it, and earned a Round of 16 game against Britonisea. Britonisea stomped them 34 to 23 and the Pacificanans were out of the BoI. In the World Bowl, they drew a group that also contained Kolmya, Gustavpolis and Karditan. Karditan won the group with a spotless 6-0 record, but on the final day of the group stage, second place was not yet decided. Pacificana Islands won 17 to 14 against Kolmya and earned second place in their group with a 3-3 record. We'll play them at the AllMartDome in Reco, so remember to shop at AllMart if you like low prices!

However, our first opponent of the second group stage will be 128th ranked Teague, who debuted in this year's Baptism of Iron, going 2-4 in the group that Sheffland and the United States of Minton advanced out of. In the first World Bowl XXV group stage, their only win in 6 games was against Teague. They come in as the 4th seed and like all teams in this group other than ours, their roster remains a mystery and they have had absolutely no media coverage of the World Bowl, at least that I've been able to find. We'll play them at True Church Stadium, which was recently renamed to reflect the proper name of the True Church rather than its more common name. I hope everybody in Roxawa will come out and support their National Football Team.

Finally, we'll see Farlandria, the third seed in this group and another team ranked 116th. Like the others, their first international football tournament was the recent Baptism of Iron, where they went 4-2 in the group stage. Walamzia knocked them out in the Round of 16 by a 10-0 margin. In the first group stage of the World Bowl, Farlandria lost all 4 games against the Allamunnic States and Jeckland. However, they defeated hapless Mieraskya, a team that did not win a single game in the first group stage, on 2 separate occasions to finish 2-4, which was good enough for third.

Yes, we somehow ended up in a group comprised of us and 3 teams from the Baptism of Iron. The only group that is weaker on paper than ours is Group J, which features Patistan as the top seed and 3 BoI teams (Greater Vakolicci Haven, Vermark and Gustavpolis). Since the likes of Allamunnic States, New North Aqmuland and German Zerabithea finished second in their respective groups, there are several second round groups that are more difficult than they should be. While we will only control our own destiny if we finish tied for 16th place or better in the overall table, if we take care of business over these next 6 games, we have a decent chance of making the playoffs.

As a final aside, I will mention that the rule changes recently pushed through by the Equestrian States have resulted in an enormous number of shutouts this year. In fact, Ko-oren, Saintland and the Equestrian States have not conceded a point between them so far, in this World Bowl. Several other teams have allowed less than 10 points, over a 6 game stretch. So far, our offense has averaged just 21 points per game, a figure that would normally be considered average, but we're the 4th highest scoring offense in World Bowl XXV. These rule changes have sucked the life out of many of the World Bowl games and have put the safety of the players in danger. I can't count the number of times that the refs have ignored blatant pass interference against my team, so I told my defensive backs to do the same thing, since pass interference is apparently legal this year. If the Equestrian States wants to re-write the rules in their favor, we have no choice but to take advantage of their rules. Just look at the team from Saintland. King Petrus decided to sit this World Bowl out and they haven't missed a beat because they've adjusted their offense to an ultra-conservative style and have allowed their great defense to win games for them, rather than relying upon the defense to prevent the offense's mistakes from resulting in points. I believe that they've shown so far that the Sanctii defense is just as talented as their offense, which should terrify every team who has to play the defending champions.

Logan Allen is the head coach of the Holy Republican National Football Team. He was a long-time assistant coach, who was unable to obtain a head coaching job with a professional club despite being successful everywhere he has ever coached. Finally, Coach Allen decided to set up his own National Team, inspired by Rule Theriault's success with the National Soccer Team, and he quickly found the investors he needed to do just that. Being a gambler at heart, Coach Allen decided to bet the house on a plan to co-host World Bowl XXII with the Sanctii, a bid that was unanimously accepted by the World Bowl Assembly. World Bowl XXII would become the most successful World Bowl in history, although the Republican National Team struggled, going just 3-5 in the Casaran Stage and failing to advance. In the years since, Allen's team has made steady progress and now appears poised to finally make the playoffs for the first time. During the off-season, Coach Allen lives with his family in Yellow Bay, Vorita.

ABANHFLEFT SURVIVES FIRST GROUP STAGE OF WORLD BOWL, GEARS UP FOR SECOND GROUP STAGE

By Ilham Mezukov

KAMMALA, GARUFALOE - The first group stage of the 25th World Bowl has finally concluded, and Abanhfleft has managed to survive--barely--against their opponents in the group. Four wins and two losses is not a bad result. Both losses came from matches against Saintland, which was expected anyway. But now that the first group stage is over, the teams have been redrawn into new groups, and it looks like the Armored Revolutionaries will be having a much easier group this time around. Here's a look at our new group.

HOPNATION (14)
They look to be the strongest team in this group. In the first group stage, they won all six of their games, but it was against teams that are admittedly minnows at best. Perhaps we can make them stumble, but already I am sure that they'll nab top spot in this group.

ABANHFLEFT (35)
This is us. We had an acceptable 4-2 record in the first group stage, and it looks like we'll be performing more of the same in this second group. Second place in this group looks to be a perfectly achievable goal for our Armored Revolutionaries now.

KOLMYA (82)
One of two teams in this group ranked below us. They've had a dismal performance in the first group stage, and I'm highly confident that the Armored Revolutionaries will be able to deal with them both times. They will fight with Val Halla for third place, and it looks like they'll get it.

VAL HALLA (139)
The second team lower than us. Their performance in the first group stage was absolutely dismal, with no games won out of six. The Armored Revolutionaries will easily shove these guys aside, unless by some quite unexpected twist of fate they get their act together and make an astounding rebound. But the chances of that happening are even lower than my chances of becoming the national gridiron team coach. Last place for these guys, and there ain't a thing they can do about it.

And that wraps up Group A! Up next is Thereisnogodistan and Group L. Stay tuned.

THEREISNOGODISTAN'S SECOND GROUP STAGE CAMPAIGN ANALYZED

By Ilham Mezukov

THEREISNOGODABAD, FHULGHAMOUS PENINSULA - We've already finished analyzing Abanhfleft's new group in the second group stage of the World Bowl XXV, and now it is Thereisnogodistan's turn for its new group to be analyzed, and we shall do so now.

KO-OREN (2)
Thereisnogodistan looks to be the unlucky one today, as they've been drawn with Ko-oren in this group stage. They're the strongest team in this tournament, with the possible exception of only Saintland, and that means that the Atheists will be easily steamrolled in their two meetings. And with the other teams in the group being fellow Baptism of Iron XVII entrants Walamzia and Mieraskya, first place is all but assured for the Ko-orenites.

WALAMZIA (95)
They're making quite an impact in the multiverse sports scene, but this doesn't look like Walamzia's breakout tournament. Not with Ko-oren and Thereisnogodistan standing in their way. They'll be lucky if they get any wins on either of those two teams, but perhaps they could get lucky with Mieraskya, who's way lower than any of the other teams in the group. Third place is theirs.

THEREISNOGODISTAN (92)
This is our team, once again. We will lose to Ko-oren both times, but win four out of four against Walamzia and Mieraskya. Second place for us too. Nuff said.

MIERASKYA (128)
Fourth place and no wins for this team. Once again, nuff said.

In the end though, all these are just predictions, and the future is still unclear on whether these will all come true or not. But still, stay tuned for Abanhfleft and Thereisnogodistan's World Bowl games. Abanhfleft games will be broadcast live on CNN 2, while Thereisnogodistan matches will be live on CNN 5. Replays of all games will be on the Sports Channel a day after the matches themselves. Keep watching, and keep supporting our Armored Revolutionaries and Atheists!

Gregoryisgodistan Drawn in Supremely Easy Group Again

Gregoryisgodistan's luck of the draw continued today, being drawn into another supremely easy group, with Estenia, Hambeich, and Eritai. The Grid Slaves could very well go 6-0 in this group and finish 11-1 overall for the two group stages. That would earn them a very high seed. Unfortunately, they were shockingly upset by Nukehavistan in the last game of the first group stage, so they will not finish a perfect 12-0, but spirits are still high heading into the second group stage. That being said, everyone knows they should be 6-0 right now. Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino said "I am very frustrated by the performance we showed against Nukehavistan. Our offense did nothing and our defense couldn't produce touchdowns. We need to play better in the group stage. We are going to play better in this, the Second Group stage, go 6-0 and 11-1 overall, and we are going to win this tournament. Mark my words. The Grid Slaves are going to win this tournament."

The Second Group Stage, like the first, will be double round robin. Gregoryisgodistan will first host Eritai, then host Estenia, then travel to Hambeich, then travel to Eritai, then travel to Estenia, and finally host Hambeich. Hambeich and Eritai have previously visited Gregoryisgodistan during the Baptism of Iron and did decently enough, so the Gregoryisgodistani crowd is familiar with them. But this will be much tougher for them, facing one of the best defenses in the multiverse. The Enemy Crushers will crush them and crush them some more. Estenia is on the Enemy List so that will be fun. Maybe they'll get super-crushed. We'll see. For now though, Gregoryisgodistan's focus is on winning the games, and crushing will come secondary to that. We hope the Grid Slaves can pull off a title run, but only time will tell. Let's go Grid Slaves!

World Bowl XXV
Group Stage 2: Group D Preview

After a slightly disappointing campaign in the first round of group play, in which we split our series with the Holy Republican Empire and Sereina, the latter of which really wound up costing us, as we came second in our group on point differential. We also beat Yttribia twice in the first stage, in group 1.

Now, though, we must forget that, and know that we must play to the fullest of our abilities to advance to the playoffs. In the group we have managed to draw, this is no easy feat, as we should only really be satisfied with a record of 4-2 or better.

To get there, though, we must first get through the three teams we are to play. Tonight, we will analyze their hopes against ours, starting with Karditan and going through DBostick, by virtue of the two being ranked first and last. In between, you can find a preview for our team and that of United We Stand 123.

Karditan(9)
The toughest team we will have to face, and discounting major upsets, our only real competiton. Karditan went 6-0 in Group 10 en route to a first seed for the second group stage. As far as we know, we have never encountered this team, but we know to expect to have to fight nail and tooth for a win. I expect to split this series with the Karditani team, each of us winning our respective home matchups. These two games will be the games to watch in terms of competition.

New North Aqmuland(18)
I expect big things out of this team. I think they have a lot of talent. World Bowl XXIII proved that. It's a matter of winning the games that need to be won, and the Maroon Lions still have a rather spotty history in that regard. I still think they can sneak into the top 16 with a really strong group stage, which is not an impossibility with the group we have drawn. Look for big things to come.

United We Stand 123(126)
Should be two wins for us in our games against this team that went 1-5 in Group 3, somehow finishing third above Eritai. The general consensus is that no matter how united this nation may actually be, they will crumble under the onslaught that we attack them with. Expect a close couple of contests between us and Karditan, but not between us and this team. Of course nothing is guaranteed, but this is a rather safe prediction.

DBostick(128)
Another team that went 1-5, this time in Group 12. Regardless, it should be another two wins for our boys. They and United We Stand will likely split their series, while both teams go 0-4 against us and Karditan. This is a pretty safe bet, given what we've seen so far, which, admittedly, is not much. However, expect a couple wins. Good games for celebration, surely.
