The Holmström family was among the 'First One Thousand,' the very first batch of settlers to populate Luna. The Holmströms actually originated as a wealthy banking family from Sweden, but Patriarch Matthias Holmström tired of Earth's constant wars and squabbles, and took his family into the stars in the early 2040's.

Since then the Holmströms have lived simple lives as farmers in New Jamestown, which was practically founded by them and another family, the Webers. Several other Swedish families even settled in the town at Matthias' invitation, creating a small Swedish enclave of farming homesteads on the outsiders of New Jamestown: Nya Göteborg.

Eirik himself was born in 2079, a third-generation "Loonie" and the second to be born on the moon. His childhood was quite uneventful, as he helped his father Hans farm through the prosperity of the 2080's and early 2090's. He proved himself a mechanical mastermind, raking extra cash for his family by repairing surface flitters and droids for any in New Jamestown who required his services.

Everything changed on that terrible day in August 2097. Luna was still reeling from the reality that they were now alone- utterly cut off. The Great Lunar War kicked off, and 18 year-old Eirik was unwillingly conscripted into the NNA security forces, forced to fight for his oppressors. When the brief war fizzled out in October, he returned home to find his family massacred- courtesy of a PR raid, the murderers having branded their factions seal into every member of his family before they were killed. The farm itself remained mostly intact, almost a joke.

Listless, Eirik buried his dead and ran things himself for a decade as things got steadily worse. NNA taxes climbed and tensions built as the various factions readied themselves for another war. He watched helpless as the very ideals his family had fled from began to supersede Luna's former image as a place of the future, a place of hope.

In 2105, Eirik acquired for himself several weapons through New Jamestown's little slice of the black market, which was steadily expanding as people became more desperate to get by. NNA peacekeepers eventually caught a whiff of his arms smuggling, and he was imprisoned on charges of terrorism. He underwent horrific mental and physical torture for a month. The NNA figured out he knew nothing about anything and flung him back into a cell, where he rotted for another 16 months.

However, a Riech raid swept through Jamestown and inadvertently gave Eirik his opportunity to escape, which he took at once. The Swede retrieved his weapons and has been holed up in the home of one of his arms smuggling contacts for the past month. But now a new war is brewing, one that presents many oppruntunities to him.
