I'm afraid that you're being a bit to vague their friend... if you could perhaps tell me of a recent conversation you had?

Besides that as you said 'Jewish people' we're just people like you.

The most recent guilt fest happened like this:

I mentioned to a mentor of mine that I do not care for some Jewish cuisine. And as if "Jewish" was a trigger word, he showed scorn in my comment and reminded me that he has many Jewish family members. But I in no way implied any resentment of Judaism itself.
I may start using this as my main account, I dunno.

*shrug*

I'd say that's more the person than an actual issue.

Um, just realize that Jews aren't any different from other people solely bc of their religion or ethnicity.

Possibly a relic of cultural tribalism. It seems to taint many things today because it refuses to die.

Yup.

although, I do wonder where some people get their ideas from, though. I remember my mom told me a woman asked her if she had horns when they first moved to my area, because she'd never met a Jew and wasn't sure. Like, what? :palm: Most anti-semitism is based upon the most random things, such as that, or believing Jews are taking something away from everyone else.

Well, just the fact that you're here admitting that you want to get along with Jews is probably the biggest step. It also sounds like you may be over-thinking or over-perceiving a bit, and a situation like the foods thing isn't really your fault so much. If you want to grow comfortable around Jews, maybe find something from Jewish culture that appeals to you personally. Research is the best tool to ease discomfort. Maybe it's schnitzel or matzah ball soup, maybe its the value of Tikun Olam (repairing the world), but something will strike you and help you better relate to and understand Jews.

As an aside about the foods thing, certain Jewish foods also disagree with me... Like canned gefiltah fish.... So don't be embarrassed about that :) Not liking the food is not the same as being discriminatory.

What's everyone's favorite Jewish holiday?

Rosh Hashanah is my favorite, although Hanukkah is a close second.

Nobody but the Talmudic Rabbis would say Yom Kippur.

I'm a fan of Simchas Torah and Pesach.

Ah yes holiday, what is this mystical word you bring from the land of the Englanders?

Personally, I prefer the entirety of Passover.

I know it seems like a rather stereotypical choice, but the beauty (as in the metaphorical, and the symbolic message) of it makes it simply worth the vast amount of time it takes up.

I always remember bringing peanut butter-and-jelly on matzo for lunch during Passover when I was in elementary school, heh.

It does have quite a beautiful message, though.

Passover. It is the Jewish thanksgiving.

To be fair, almost every Jewish Holiday includes a large feast.

One of My friends, and I were discussing this, we both agreed half of Jewish Holidays are parties and feasts, the other half of them are fasts to recover from the ill effects possible brought upon ourselves.

For my family we all got together and had the seder together, my grandmother and aunts would cook. Grandpa Lead the service, happy childhood memory.

Not in the American sense, no. Can't cook on shabbat, whole family does not gather for a feast on shabbat. we don't do an entire service at home on shabbat.

Remembering those who perished, 70 years ago, today.

I have a question. I am not Jewish, although IIRC, some ancestors of mine were so perhaps it's odd that I'm here asking this, but I was curious. Individually, how do each of you deal with antisemitism? Particularly stereotypes and jokes?
