Ardokian soldiers of the Second Field Army after having taken control of an Aanglandish government facility.
Aanglandia can trace its existence back to 700 CE, when a Germanic tribe known as the Aangles conquered a large area on the south-western Ardokian continent. The Aangles mixed with the Ardokians who were already living there, and today the Aanglandish are about 70% Ardokian and 30% Aangle. The new Aangle kingdom endured an unstable resistance with their neighbour the, Ardokian Empire, and in the early modern period they managed to conquer much of the coast of southern Ardokian coast. With the Ardokian Progressive Revolution in 1905, the new Ardokian government set its sights on regaining control over all of Ardoki, and during the First Ardokian-Aanglandish War (1928-1942), Aanglandia was conquered in a brutal conflict. Most of the Ardokian areas of Aanglandia were made into new Ardokian provinces, while the majority Aanglandish areas in the far south-west was turned into an autonomous province.
36 years ago in 1979, the province of Aanglandia gained independence from Ardoki in a revolution beginning a decade earlier, however was reduced to the status of a protectorate. They were not allowed to have their own military, and their foreign policy was set by Ardoki. Aanglandia welcomed back their exiled Queen, and became a constitutional monarchy. Ardoki let Aanglandia remain autonomous, as the previous insurgency caused the deaths of thousands. In 1991, a far-right nationalist movement occurred in Aanglandia, with a viciously anti-Ardokian stance. The Aanglandish government welcomed the Ardokian 2nd Field Army, with its 250 000 infantry and 540 tanks, to restore order in the demilitarised country.
In 2005 the nationalist insurgency had been defeated, however the 2nd Field Army remained to keep order. Many Aanglandish still feeling hatred toward Ardoki felt this as a breach of their sovereignty, the Aanglandish government even asked Ardoki to withdraw its troops, however the Ardokian government kept them there. Furthermore, in 2009, the 3rd and 4th Field Armies (500 000 infantry and 1080 tanks) were positioned on the Ardokian-Aanglandish border along with several air force bases being constructed. Tensions have been high between the two countries all throughout their existence, but many in Aanglandia are worried about how they would be defenceless in an Ardokian invasion.
In January 2015, the Aanglandish government announced that it would tear up the treaty which gave Ardoki control over Aanglandia's foreign policy and forbid it from having a military. Their Prime Minister, Anthony Thatcher stated "The time has come, for the Ardokian soldiers to go home, and Aanglandia to seize control of its own foreign policy. We are not Ardokian, we are Aanglandish! This is not Ardokian territory, this is Aanglandish territory! The Ardokians may say otherwise, however they can't touch us without angering the international community!", he also expressed desire for Aanglandia to form relationships with foreign nations to help strengthen itself militarily against their large neighbour.
This was a mistake, on the Aanglandish side. The Unified Progressive Republic of Ardoki would not stand for this.
Ardokian-Aanglandish Border
Allen was a border guard, joining the Aanglandish Police less than a year earlier. His job was to guard the road heading into Aanglandia from Ardoki. He had to inspect passports, search vehicles, and the like. It wasn't a very exciting job, he wanted to be a policeman in the big city, but this was important as well. He had his friend Cliff to talk to. They were on the early shift today, it was almost 3 O'clock in the morning, and the road was empty at this time.
"I can't wait until I get home today." said Allen to Cliff as they were sitting in the border booth.
"Why Allen" said Cliff
"I couldn't sleep last night, I need to get some sleep this morning."
"Almost two hours left. Then I can play some video games."
"I have to get some food for my cat. He..." Allen paused as he could hear the rumbling of loud engines, he feel the ground vibrating. "What's that?"
"Probably just a long semi-trailer." Cliff said as he and Allen got up to look out the window.
At first they didn't believe what they saw. A column of Ardokian main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles rolling towards Aanglandia. They just sat in silence and shock, as the vehicles broke through the barrier and rolled into their homeland. They were there for definitely over an hour, as all kinds of military vehicles came through. When their shift finished, they went home as though nothing had happened.
The Ardokian 3rd and 4th Field Armies had begun their advance into Aanglandia, steam-rolling through the undefended borders, and carrying onward to reinforce the 2nd Field Army and take control of the country. It wouldn't be hard, as Aanglandia had no military, and like Ardoki they had prohibited civilians from owning firearms (a wise move). Their police force wouldn't stand a chance against an army, and they would still want to maintain order in Aanglandia occupation or not. The civilians, while currently defenceless, could pose a threat to Ardokian control if not pacified.
The Aanglandish government was already being taken care of. The capital of Landintown, was already under Ardokian control. The Royal Palace and Parliament has been seized, while the royal family and politicians had been taken into custody in case they tried to oppose the occupation. However the international community had to be given a good reason for the invasion. So, Doctor Alastaire Moriarty, President (head of state) of the Unified Progressive Republic of Ardoki, and General Secretary of the Progressive Totalitarian Labour Party of Ardoki, sent out a public statement to the world.
Official Public Statement
By President Alastaire Moriarty
Unified Progressive Republic of ArdokiAs you may know by now, earlier this morning the 3rd and 4th Field Armies of the National Ardokian Ground Forces entered the Kingdom of Aanglandia. While the 2nd Field Army already in the country, seized control of the capital, their royal family and their government. Some may see this as an invasion, however it is more a liberation or retaking of our own territory. A long time ago, some barbarians took that territory away from Ardoki (the Ardokian Empire), and claimed it as theirs. It is on the Ardokian continent, was once part of Ardoki, and is a fundamental part of Ardokian territory.
No nation has a right to deny the territorial integrity of Ardoki, defy our right to our own land. The people living their have mainly Ardokian DNA, so it is not a conquest of another nation. It is the unification of Ardoki. We hope that most of you can understand our point of view, and to the others, mind your own business.
Thank you.
