Polar Islandstates Rugby Union Roster
ImageImageImage

As the Polarian national rugby union side continues to underperform way below the high levels set by both the Polarian club sides and the Polarian rugby league side, Jesper Rasmussen became another victim of the PIRUF's search for success at the world cup. The membership of the PIRUF in the Valhalla-wide CVRA has seen their club sides kick on to ever greater heights, so why does the national team lag way behind? They're hoping Wep Kannelainen - Corgi to his friends - is the man with the answers. We'll see, eh?

RUWC now also starts for Ko-oren; two victories

In the first game, against Nova Anglicana, the Greenblues got an early 7-0 lead by Santos. Ko-oren kept the Lions on their own half, with Nova Anglicana not even being on the board by half time. It was 19-0 at half time: Santos, Savage and Pereira all scored tries. The Greenblues took it easy in the second half, and they allowed Nova Anglicana close to the Greenblue tryline a couple of times. This gave the Lions 13 points: one penalty, try and conversion and a drop goal. But before that drop goal, the Ko-orenites secured the win with a penalty and a drop goal of their own.

In round three, Ko-oren took on Patistan in Patistan's third game and Ko-oren's second. Where the Greenblues managed to pin the Lions down to their own half in that game, the Patistani made good use of punts to not only avoid being pinned down, but even pin the Greenblues down to their half from time to time. While both teams tried their best, neither came close to a try, and the 30 players went to the touch line for the half time break with a 0-6 lead to Ko-oren. At least Dieudonné had managed to put the Greenblues on the board with a drop goal, after which Patistan fouled to give Santos the opportunity for three more points. He succeeded, seconds before half time started.

In the second half, the Patistani not just created some dangerous opportunities, but they even got points on the board: 7-6, including successful conversion. Moments later it was 14-6 as Spijker, Fletcher and Favre failed to contain the Patistani backs. Near the end of the game, Magalhães scored a try close to the goalposts, and the conversion was an easy extra two points for Dieudonné. In the dying minutes of the game, Santos secured three points from a drop goal: 16-14. The Greenblues avoided a loss, for what it is worth.

Xadowia won their third game, with them leading the group with three wins and two bonus points. Ko-oren is stuck in third place with a game in hand, on eight points but no bonus points. Bonus points are awarded for not losing by more than seven points or scoring four tries in one game (with a maximum of five points per match). This system has always been criticised in Ko-oren for benefitting the attacking teams (for the four tries rule), and it has been reworked in our own domestic league. For the RUWC, obviously, we will have to live with the international rules. This means that the Greenblues will have some trouble, but hey, the Greenblues managed to win the tournament under these rules, too.

Tumelo Oluwaka from the Electron RWC22 Press room

Seven tries and ome penalties are the result of Xadowian 3rd match in this RUWC XXII.
This time Lebarien beside changing the first row also left out Lubanga replacing him with Luc Maga (Rangers) who scored 3 of the 4 tries of the 1st half.
The first try of the match being scored by Prop Kabila (Lions) after a winning rolling maul after a great scrum played 10 meters from the Kernansquillec tryline.
Lamaalam replaced Maga at the 20th of the second half and scored the 6th try and the last try was scored by Right wing Yannick Tshisekedi (Impalas)

The scoreline of Xadowia is therefore:
Kabila 1 try (5 points)
Maga 4 tries (20 points)
Lamaalam 1 try (5 points)
Tshisekedi 1 try (5 points)
Kunakey 7 conversions + 1 penalty (17 points)

The scorers are so far:

Point Scorers:
Kunakey (Gorillas) 45 points
Lubanga (Gorillas) 25 points
Maga (Rangers) 20 points
Mwami (Gorillas) 10 points
Garcia (Avenir) 5 points
Tiao (Leopards) 5 points
Kabila (Lions) 5 points
Lamaalam (Avenir) 5 points
Tshisekedi (Impalas) 5 points

Try scorers:
Lubanga (Gorillas) 6 tries
Maga (Rangers) 4 tries
Mwami (Gorillas) 2 tries
Garcia (Avenir) 1 try
Tiao (Leopards) 1 try
Kabila (Lions) 1 try
Lamaalam (Avenir) 1 try
Tshisekedi (Impalas) 1 try

Next match will see Xadowia clashing against Ko-oren. The game is getting tough now. We respect Ko-oren as they have a long and successful rugby history, we can only learn from them, but we'll not give up that easy.
For the occasion the whole starting line up will be restored by our head coach.

For the remainder of the Group D we see that Ko-orenhad not an easy life against Patistan who seem so far in a great shape as well as Jachaelter.

Sad notes put a stain on the brightness of this tournament, therefore URX, the Xadowian Rugby Union is frightened by the behaviour of Western Borderlands supporters and has issued a formal requirement to the International board to investigate about the anti sporting behaviour enacted by those hooligans. These happenings are so far from the Rugby principles and normal behaviour that should be blocked immediately.

Toucans Defeat Buyan

Postby The Fair Republic » Mon Sep 01, 2014 7:25 am

After the upset loss to Estope, Gideon Patrick's squad came out versus Buyan with a chip on their shoulder. They jumped out to a 21-0 lead on tries from Franz Williams, Peter Lazarus and Victor Peterson all within the first 20 minutes. A drop kick by Ross Lynch increased the score to 24-0. Buyan was able to convert a try with 5 minutes left to make the score 24-7 at the half. In the 2nd half, the Toucans were determined not to blow the lead like in the Estope game. Another two drop kicks by Lynch made it a 30-7 match. Patrick then subbed some of the starters out so the younger players can get a chance at world cup action and to give the first team some much needed rest.

Next Match: Greater Lombardy (UR)

The first time participants are currently 4th in the group despite having a -21 point differential. After a 26 point outing versus Britonisea, they have only managed to score 22 points in two games. The Toucans who are currently 5th in the group must win this game to advance higher up in the standings and make a run for getting past the group stage.

Rossana - The Rise and Fall of An Empire
Part V - Julian Baumgartner

"HARRIS! JUMP FOR IT!", Captain Reynolds shouted ferociously, getting into a hijacked Rossanese army helicopter. Harris was sprinting towards the edge of a 25 meter cliff, that dropped into a deep river, where, . He detached a few bits of his armor and threw them away, as to lessen the impact of the fall. And, taking a deep breath, he plunged head-first off the cliff. Harris' mind slowed down as his body sunk into the river. He heard heavy gunfire above the surface of the water, and knew that he had to make it to the other side of the river to get into the helicopter and escape alive.

Harris coughed out water as he crawled out from the bank of the river. Bullets whizzed past him, left and right. Sogging wet, and barely grasping on to conscience, Harris struggled up the riverbank, and was about to get into the helicopter where the rest of his squad was, only to get shot once in the hip. Harris fell off the helicopter, landing on the soft dirt beneath him.

"HARRIS, GET BACK HERE!", Captain Reynolds shouted, lying down on his stomach on the deck of the helicopter, extending his hand to Harris, leaving Corporal Stanley as pilot. Harris, miraculously, managed to sit up straight and put himself up onto his knees. However, as soon as Harris got hold of Reynolds' hands, but a second bullet hit Harris, this time in the lower back.

"F***, RPGS!", Private Tom Adler, a member of Squad Five, who, along with the rest of his squad, was covering Reynolds and Stanley as bullets, and now, rockets whizzed past the helicopter in torrents. "Leave me, Reynolds. It's too late for me, I don't think I'll make it out alive anyway. Save yourself and the squad while you still can.", Harris whispered, his vision starting to blacken. Reynolds watched, speechless, as Harris let go of Reynolds' numb hands, and fell back onto the ground. As Harris' eyelids began to close, Harris watched as the helicopter flew away into the air, and the Darvalian soldier lost conscience.

30 Minutes earlier...

Reynolds pinned a map of the city of Lyvlun to the wall of the abandoned building, where Squad Five, Missing In Action after they were forced to flee from a mission in the Rossanese city of Schlausenbach, had stayed in for the night. "We are currently here.", Reynolds said, pointing at a circle he had drawn on the map, getting the attention of the squad he was in charge of. "I've managed to get hold of a trustworthy contact of mine - he informed me that the Rossanese have taken everything from the coast, all the way up to this river here.", Reynolds explained. "The distance between our current position and the river is only about 2 kilometers - and there's supposedly a Darvalian military installation another 8 kilometers after the river."

"That'll be a hell lot of walking, Reynolds.", Private Tom Adler said wearily. "Don't worry Adler, we'll only be walking for the first two kilometers.", Reynolds said, a grin forming along his prominent cheekbones. "Ironically, there's also a Rossanese military base that the Rossanese set up along the river - my source indicated that there are at least 5 helicopters there. I spent 6 months in the air force before switching to the army, and, from what I've heard, Stanley's also spent some time in the air.", Reynolds said. "We'll move out now." And, without another word, the six men set out into the the deserted city.

30 Minutes later...

Harris was about to close his eyes. That, however, did not happen. Harris' eyes were forced open as he watched the helicopter transporting his fellow group mates get hit by one, then two RPG rockets. The helicopter hung in the air, out of control for a few seconds, and finally, crashed and exploded onto the shore of the river, 15 meters from Harris. Harris could only sigh as his eyes finally closed to the sound of Rossanese soldiers rushing to him from behind.

2 hours later...

Harris woke up. He was attached to a metal pole with rope in a small, dark room. He couldn't see anything beyond 2 meters in front of him. All of a sudden, however, a torch was lit a few meters away from Harris. Harris looked around. He realized that two other people were in the same state as he was - hanging in mid-air, attached to a pole with thick coils of rope. However, Harris was more concentrated on what was in front of him - a silhouette - armed with a revolver approaching him.

"Well hello, there!", the man with the torch said, in a sinister voice. "Let me introduce myself. I am Julian Baumgartner, commander-in-chief of the Rossanese Armed Forces. As you may know already, the Rossanese army has already taken over the south-west of Darvale, more specifically the Vinrotverian coast. We have already executed over 2500 Darvalian soldiers. You, along with your fellow squad mates - ", Harris gasped as Baumgartner lit up the faces of the equally shocked Reynolds, Adler, and Stanley. "will be executed as well, along with around 100 other Darvalian soldiers.", Baumgartner continued. "But, enough from me, now.", Baumgartner said, leaving the room. "I truly enjoyed our time together.", Baumgartner said, flashing his evil grin one last time before exiting the room. Five Rossanese soldiers detached Harris, Adler, Stanley and Reynolds, tied them together, side by side, with another coil of rope.

Harris shivered in the cold as he was lined up, with Stanley and Adler on his left, Reynolds on his right, and dozens upon dozens of other Darvalian soldiers all lined up on both sides of Harris, Harris looked at the sky, thinking it would be the last time he'd see it. He, however, was wrong. Less than a second before the shots that would have killed Harris and the dozens of other Darvalians beside him, one of the Darvalians appeared to have a nervous breakdown, causing him to run out of line just before the Rossanese executioners would have fired their first shots.

As the Rossanese were focused on gunning down the escapee, all of the other Darvalians took their chances to flee - Harris, Stanley, Adler, and Reynolds included. Harris struggled to keep up with the three remaining members of his squad while dodging the torrents of bullets coming in from every direction and coping with the searing pain coming from the two bullet wounds he had received from the skirmish at the Dover River, that was gripping onto Harris like a disease. Miraculously, however, Harris managed to make it into the first trees of the forest that surrounded the Rossanese military camp, that was built in a clearing of the forest.

Harris finally caught up with the rest of his squad, which was still running, alongside dozens of other Darvalian escapees. "Hey, guys-", Harris started. He, however, was immediately silenced. Corporal Callum Stanley, one of the three remaining members of Squad Five of the 231st All Infantry Unit, suddenly fell down on his stomach. Reynolds flipped Stanley over. Reynolds immediately regretted it. Stanley's now lifeless body lay on the ground, with a crimson red spot, spot on on his heart, of blood rapidly growing bigger and bigger. "SHIT, SNIPERS!", one of the Darvalian escapees beside Harris shouted, quickly running away. A second escapee jogged up to where a speechless Reynolds was crouching down. In a deep voice, the escapee said, "C'mon Reynolds. We'll mourn him later. We need to get out of here now.", stunning Reynolds, who never would have thought any of the escapees knew him, or the vice versa. Reynolds gently lay down Stanley's corpse on the ground and continued running. Harris followed.

"Buon nachi, Neu Engollon! I am your loyal host of the NETV Sports 7 Update, Magda Wertauer, and once again we beam to you live from Electrum, and the Twenty Second Rugby Union World Cup.
The Goats won their second match of the group, beating Super Llamaland handily by a score of 32 to 6. That's right, two goals got through, but the Goat offense kept up the pressure throughout the match.
Horst Emmett delivered twice into the try zone and Willi Hoerner was on target with the conversions, while Urbach brought the third try in. Semmes was able to nail the rock through the sticks, as did Reitzbach and a penalty kick in the middle of the second half brought the match to 29-3. The last few minutes were dramatic as the Llamalanders continued to try to push into field goal range, getting one more over the posts, while the Goats answered with one more of their own, making it impossible for Super Llamaland to contemplate catching up in the final minutes.
The Llamalanders were very equanimous as they shook hands with our ruggers and quickly ducked into their locker room, but the pain must have been great for them. It's still early enough on in this Group stage that one match isn't a make or break it ordeal, but it's still a bit of a blow.

Likewise, the Goats are not out of the woods, yet...
The Group standings gave many a small heart attack, showing Neu Engollon down in the fourth spot, despite being the only undefeated team in Group C as of now. Worry not Goatanatics! With seven teams in each group, and rotating byes, it will be just a match day or two before everything levels out. But rest assured, as long as the Goats keep taking down their opponents, they will rise to the top soon enough and lock into the top tier. Next up: Miley World takes the pitch against our mighty Goats. Not much can be said, as, well...we just know so little about this nation or team. Should be an interesting match. Thanks for watching, Neu Engollon. Bottoms up! I... Oh. Why can't I have a [BLEEP]-ing catchphrase, God-..."

Tumelo Oluwaka from the Memorial Park RWC22 Press room, Kale Island

Four tries and two penalties have neiled our team to their natural limits. Ko-oren is a battleship and we were sunk.
A try by Jean-Pierre Mapon (Rangers) + conversion by Kunakey after the second try scored by Ko-oren and a penalty kick by Kunakey made les painful the defeat.
Our scrum made some mistakes but the Greenblue tide revealed overwhelming.
Hats off to our opponents, they obviously deserved the victory.
Tonight URX will organize a party at dinner in their hotel, and the Ko-oren team and Union personnel are invited to celebrate together.

The updated scorer board is:

Point Scorers:
Kunakey (Gorillas) 50 points
Lubanga (Gorillas) 25 points
Maga (Rangers) 20 points
Mwami (Gorillas) 10 points
Garcia (Avenir) 5 points
Tiao (Leopards) 5 points
Kabila (Lions) 5 points
Lamaalam (Avenir) 5 points
Tshisekedi (Impalas) 5 points
Mapon (Rangers) 5 points

Try scorers:
Lubanga (Gorillas) 6 tries
Maga (Rangers) 4 tries
Mwami (Gorillas) 2 tries
Garcia (Avenir) 1 try
Tiao (Leopards) 1 try
Kabila (Lions) 1 try
Lamaalam (Avenir) 1 try
Tshisekedi (Impalas) 1 try
Mapon (Rangers) 1 try

Next match will be Nova Anglicana, they only lost to Ko-oren and had a rest round this time. They will be more relaxed and motivated, but our vert-jaunes are very charged byt his defeat and want to demonstrate thir value once more!
For this match Lebarien will change some elements in the scrum: Prop Kabila (Lions) and Hooker Guerin (Avenir) will start on the field while Martin and Pitchoune will sit on the bench. Scrum Half Micombero (Gorillas) will take the place of Guei (Rangers).
Let’s go!

"Western Borderlands' fans are feared" says anonymous rugby fan

The Investigation crew the WBRA sent over interviewed a rugby fan leaving the Christian Isles-Britonisea game, the investigation crew interviewed him/her and the result is this excerpt:

"I do not think anyone is looking forward to play the Western Borderlands due to their fans, their fans are practically the scum of the multiverse in my opinion and everyone just seems to fear them due to their obnoxious and hateful chants and actions. I really do not like to go more in depth about it but I think nobody would want to be playing Western Borderlands or attend a game with Western Borderlands as one of the teams involved in a match."

The crew's interview comes at a time where controversy runs rampant about the questionable actions of the Western Borderlands fans and their constant taunting chants and fights. This does not help public opinion of the Western Borderlands' fans, but the mantra of the fans is: "We don't care"

Also the WBRA has called for a meeting between them and Electrum's Rugby Association about the matter at hand.

(This is a TV brodcast of the Toucans-Greater Lombardy match.)

"Another drop kick by the Toucans make the score 53-7 with 7 minutes to go."

"Real passionate Jim."

"Is this game exiting Bob?"

"Not at all, but you have to be excited unless you want to give the impression that you are unpatriotic."

"I was excited in the first 10 minutes."

"That's when the score was 7-7. It was back and forth for the first 10 minutes."

"Then Gideon Patrick's squad turned on the jets.'

"4 tries plus conversions in roughly 30 minutes. That was an offensive masterwork."

"It was but the Toucans have only settled for dropkicks in the second half."

"Probably Patrick told the backups and the starters that remained on not to embarrass them too much."

"Minus the one that just went in all of those could have easily been tries. We've been faster than the Lombardy fullback the whole day."

"It didn't matter the Toucans got the bonus point and will move up to 4th place after this game."

"Who are we playing next Bob?"

"Britonisea."

"They are 1-2 and defeated the Christian Isles 28-26. Have any opinions about them?"

"There um... new.'

"You don't know anything about them? You call yourself a color commentator?"

"They haven't published a roster don't blame me. Well my opinion is that we have to win this game to have a chance to go further in the standings. This is the start of the second half and the Toucans for the first time since World Cup 20 will have to fight till the final game to acquire a spot past the group stage."

"There is the final whistle once again the score is 53-7, The Fair Republic."

Buyan sends out their sons. The RUWC XXI was not dissatisfying with a spot in the play-offs and this competition isn't shaking up too bad either. Let's see who are the XV who attempt to do their nation some honour...

1. Egidijus Budris (28, Tikhovesi RK) - Loosehead Prop -
His style isn't much to look at, they say. I'll transfer to Tikhovesi and help them win the Seasogs, Budris responded.
He's a piece of rock inside a mountain inside a larger mountain. That does render him a bit slow.
2. Arvydas Petraitis (25, UTR Pajukas) - Hooker -
Petraitis claims that he picked this position as he was the only one in his old team where none dared to make the obvious hooker jokes about.
Petraitis has been one of the faces of the new Pajukas, that managed to dethrone Tikhovesi of the national title.
3. Aslo Privalkis (29, Jurbiskis Wisents) - Tighthead Prop -
He used to be an immense castle along with Budris, but with his buddy moving to the big league, he remains the only Wisent on the national team.
Called one of the lesser elements, but the match with Budris makes him an asset.
4. Reinhart Simmel (21, Tikhovesi RK) - Lock -
A debut for the latest sensation of the domestic PURL competition. Simmel made his way through the amateur leagues and was spotted by an attentive scout.
RK hasn't regretted dropping him in the team, he's got that little bit extra...
5. Ake Pulkkinen (32, Tikhovesi RK) - Lock -
... especially when he's in his partnership with Ake Pulkkinen. With quite some guys being dropped since the RUWC XXI, Pulkki is a senior and leader in this squad.
Important in the dressing room and on the pitch, we must say.
6. Sten Nordahl (25, Bengtsmark Braves) - Blindside Flanker -
Once marketed as the next big thing, Sten Nordahl went down a bit along with the Braves.
Nonetheless, he remains a top-class flanker and one of those players that can break open a difficult game.
7. Kjetil Dokken (29, RK Svhobodha, PDY) - Openside Flanker -
People said he was a nutcase to move to Svhobodha, but the ascetic flanker hasn't regretted his move.
His style has grown on the competition he plays in, if you're into a bit of roughhousing, Dokken is your mate.
8. Elmaras Vaskulkis (23, UTR Pajukas) - Number Eight -
The long-cast doubts about his capacities on the highest level were thrown off in great style by Elmaras Vaskulkis with a domestic title.
Leads the team when necessary and has the kind of vision any good number eight has to have.

9. David Hellermann (29, RK Hsluuchya, PDY) - Scrum Half -
Hellermann was once the sensation of the Feldhammer Adler, the ugly duckling of the highest division.
Adler went down a flight, Hellermann moved abroad and made an evolution to scrum half, where he will feature for this WC.
10. Mart Aus (37, Tikhovesi RK) - Fly-half -
Senior is an understatement when one discusses Aus. Time and time again, his retirement is announced and as his side,
Tikhovesi continues to gather glory, he pushes it forward. With a Seasogs on his mantle, he said that "this is really his last few games".
11. Jaan Kallemane (30, Panoli Dockers, NEG) - Left Wing -
"Kalle" is considered one of the greats of the sport in Buyan. Although his side is going through rough weather in the Engollese competition,
Kallemane continues to be an all-time great. Might use the tournament to find a transfer.
12. Olmar Cesnauskis (30, San Remo Ospreys, NEG) - Inside Center -
Another one of the players who takes the pitch out of our nation,
Cesnauskis as a slick player who is one of the few to make the tabloids from time to time with stories upon skanky girlfriends and fast cars.
13. Gomar Kvist (24, Bengtsmark Braves) - Outside Center -
Leading member of the Bengtsmark Renaissance, four young players who should allow the Braves to regain their position at the top of the domestic competition.
Kvist has talent in abundance but will have to be guided.
14. Jonas Rimsa (29, UTR Pajukas) - Right Wing -
Rimsa isn't the most talented player on the squad by far, but he does deliver at any occasion, against any opponent.
Will undoubtly pick up his tries along the tournament and that's enough to put him in the line-up.
15. Juris Freimanis (27, Zeimgava Warriors) - Fullback -
The face of the team, or that's at least what he is supposed to. His domestic team isn't one of the major sides but he refuses to leave them in the cold.
Single-handedly drags them kicking and screaming to the middle of the table.

Jack Greybold sighed and stretched out along the sofa, letting out a quiet fart along the way, before grabbing the bottle which was propped up against the foot of the sofa. On the large TV on the wall was some rubbish day-time chat show television, which seemed to be hosted by the man of the hour, Charles Smith-Smythe-Smith, who had suddenly become something of a celebrity in Apox following the countries running of the "Cup for Chaps". It was safe to say then, that Jack had let himself go a little bit since he'd been ousted from government by that back stabbing cretin known as Kashmir Aston, who was now parading himself around Government House, pretending he'd actually earnt his position. Yeah right.

As these thoughts were whizzing through his head for the seventh time that day, his mobile rang. Unfortunately, it happened to be on the coffee table, which meant that he had to get up. He heaved himself up, tripped over the bottle, and fell onto the floor next to the coffee. Not bothering to move from his current position, he reached up to the table and grabbed the phone. Unknown caller. Great.

"Whaddayawant?" was his order as opposed to a request.

"Jack? Is that you?" He sat up sharply, trying to place the voice, which if he hadn't been as drunk would have come to him straight away. Trying to sober up in about three nanoseconds failed as well.

"Who ish thish? Do I kno..."

"It's Annabel Harwood you fucking mug. Why haven't you picked up your landline? We've been trying to contact you for days!" He glanced over at the smashed up remains of his landline phone, destroyed after he'd thrown it across the room after a particularly tense conversation with his wife, if she was still his wife at this stage. She'd left about a week ago, and he hadn't heard from her since.

"It doeshn't work. Whaddayawant?"

"I just wanted to check you were ok." Even in his intoxicated state, Jack could read her straight away. A good judge of character had helped him get to the top in the first place.

"Bullshit. What do you acshually want?" A sigh could be heard on the other end of the line.

"We need you back Jack. Kashmir is holding the entire party to ransom. New Dawn are practically fascists, they're impossible to work with, and the ANP have derailed since John Asheburton left. We need you." Jack weighed up his options for a second.

"Nah, thanks, I..." he was cut off before he could continue,

"No, Jack, I'm not taking no for an answer. I'll give you until tomorrow to sober up, and then I'll have a car send round which will leave with you in it, and it'll take you across town to Government House. See you tomorrow." Jack sat there speechless. He had to admire Anna's determination, but then again, she hadn't wanted him to go, she was one of the few allies he still had left in government. What she'd want a backbencher who hadn't been into session for a month for, he didn't know. But it must be important.

AFTER THE REST DAY, WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT OUR OPPOSITION?
By Archon Venkman

KALE ISLAND, ELECTRUM - So as we all know, rugger fans, Abanhfleft got the bye today, giving our beloved XV a well-deserved rest from play. Of course, because we (meaning I) didn't have such distractions such as watching our own players play, we (once again meaning I) managed to take the time to watch the games of our other competitors. I paid no particular attention to Super Llamaland (because they beat us already), Miley World, and Cosumar (because we beat them), so my focus for today will be Forthhanu, Apox, and Neu Engollon.

Our boys in the blue, orange, and green will be facing Forthhanu tomorrow. I'm not particularly worried about this match. Our boys are in a good little winning run now, and Forthhanu... Well, they just managed to scrape a victory against Cosumar by virtue of a very lucky drop goal. I see the potential for a big margin of victory here. Prediction: Abanhfleft 49-7 Forthhanu

After that we're facing Neu Engollon. So far they're the only undefeated team in our group. I'm not looking forward to this game, as they're ranked 4th in rugby union, and we're basically newcomers. They annihilated Miley World today by 30 points. And while I'm not confident about our boys winning this game, we may just be able to keep the lead small. Maybe by a try or a drop goal. Prediction: Neu Engollon 38-35 Abanhfleft

And our final game for the group stage is against Apox. They played like they didn't even have an opponent, and they won 48-0 against Super Llamaland. Now this team has really got me quaking in my boots. We stand a real chance of a blowout here. Just hope that our boys can keep scoring and keep the differential low. Take inspiration from the Philippines national basketball team, lads, and concede as few points as possible! Prediction: Apox 56-35 Abanhfleft

So those are my predictions for the last three games of Abanhfleft in this group stage. If we manage to win more than one game, all right. If we win one, well, I expected that. If we lose all, well, feck it! The comments section is waiting for your irreverent comments below.

Rossana - The Rise and Fall of An Empire
Part VI - The Bloody Village

Harris panted as he, Reynolds, Adler, and another mysterious Darvalian soldier whose name was still unknown to, reached a small, Vinrotverian town located in Rossana occupied Darvale. "It's getting dark. It's been a long day. I think we should stay here for the night - I'm sure the locals would be happy to accommodate some of their country's servicemen.", the mysterious soldier said. "Oh, and by the way, you two -", the mysterious soldier said, looking in the direction of Adler and Harris. I'm Lyndon Holmes. Senior Sergeant Lyndon Holmes. Task Force 141.

"Holmes was in my junior squad when I was still in Task Force 141, before I got transferred to Fort Crompton.", Reynolds explained. "Holmes, these are the Privates Tom Adler and Noah Harris. We were originally seven, but we lost four of our men." "Alright. Well, let's get into the town.", Holmes said, walking past an unusually new-looking sign that said "Ide Arlvaidans Town". The town looked deserted, but as Holmes, Harris, Reynolds, and Adler walked further towards the town center, they realized that the citizens of the town were actually hiding - thinking that the five Darvalians were actually Rossanese. However, after Holmes, in an act of patriotism, took down the Rossanese flag that was blowing in the air of the town center, and instead put up a Darvalian flag he always kept in his utility belt.

"Finally.", Holmes said. The citizens had noticed the Darvalian flag flying in their town's center, had slowly come out from their hiding places, realizing that the four Darvalians were not Rossanese, but Darvalians. "They've realized we're Darvalians.", Holmes said, standing up. "The town mayor should be here soon.", and sure enough, a fairly short, old man dressed in a black suit and a top hat emerged from the small crowd that had gathered in the wide alleys branching out from the square, staring at the four Darvalians sitting on a bench in the square.

"Uhm, hello there...", the old town mayor said, adjusting his top hat and shaking the hands of the four Darvalians. "I am Arne U. U. Magtum Jarblin, mayor of this town.", the old man said, tipping his hat. "So... how may I help you?", the old man asked sympathetically. Holmes gave a "Let me take care of this" face to the rest of his squad, and stood up. "Greetings, Mr. Jarblin.", Holmes started. "First of all, we apologize for our unruly entrance into the town - we are escapees of a Rossanese concentration camp, and-", Holmes was cut off by a now relieved Jarblin. "Ah, ah, ah. I see now! No need to apologize! I should be the one apologizing! We should have accommodated soldiers of our nation much more warmly. And we thank you for taking that red and black mess of a Rossanese flag down - the Darvalian flag looks much better.", Jarblin said.

Two minutes later

Adler, Reynolds, Harris, and Holmes sat down on the chairs of the town hall. The four men were served hot chocolate by the mayor himself, and, as the latter excused himself for a moment, Adler, Reynolds and Harris were about to take a sip of the hot cocoa, but Holmes suddenly half whispered, half yelled, "STOP. Put down the glasses. All of you." Harris, Adler, and Reynolds exchanged confused glances.

Holmes sighed. "Let me explain. Ever since I walked into this village, I knew something was wrong - odd. Look. As soon as we entered the village, the village sign looked brand new - and yet the rest of the village looks so old. Further on, I walked past a bin on the alley side, and the headlines of a newspaper inside the bin caught my attention. "Vinrotverian Citizens Massacred by the Rossanese." Considering this village is probably one of the closest, if not the closest village to the Rossanese camp, it would make no sense for there to be still as many citizens in the village as we saw."

"And then, back to the sign of the village. This village is supposedly called Ide Arlvaidans - a very Vinrotverian name, right? However, mix the letters around a little, and what do you get? Die Darvalians. And then yet another anagram - the mayor's name, Arne U. U. Magtum Jarblin. Mix those letters around a little. The result? Julian Baumgartner. And then look inside your glass of supposed "cocoa". Use your stirring stick to see what's at the bottom."

Holmes picked his glass up and rigged out white flakes from the bottom of his mug. "After taking an Advance Survival Course in Task Force 141, I'm 100% positive this is Ketamine, alternatively known as "Special K". Now, Ketamine is very popular amongst illegal drug recreationists, but Ketamine is strictly banned in Darvale. Why? It's one of the most lethal drugs that exists. On the other hand, the Rossanese government has been very open about their rather long list of execution methods. Among them? Ketamine overdose. If you ask me, "Ide Arlvaidans" and everything in it is just a bit of hokus pokus.", Holmes finished his speech.

"Hm hm hm.", "Arne U. U. Magtum Jarblin" chuckled as he cocked a dastard-looking revolver in his hand, taking off the old man mask he was wearing, revealing his trademark evil grin. "Excellent work, Senior Sergeant. Excellent work.", Baumgartner said, keeping his maniacal grin and cocking his revolver. "The Rossanese army really could use a mind like yours. You three too.", Baumgartner said, turning to Adler, Reynolds, and Harris. "Just to what I do.", Holmes said casually.

To be continued...

Lions Control Patistan, Xadowia Awaits

Harland Howerton, Londinium Courier

It wasn't a demolition, but Patistan never stood a chance. Yes, the Nova Anglicana Lions missed out on another bonus point in their second win by only being able to score four tries, but they still defeated Patistan 29-5. The Patistanis stood little chance against the Lions' stout defensive line, and in fact did not advance the ball past the twenty-two metre line until there were fewer than five minutes remaining in the game.

Flankers Myles Sheffield and Damien Clemens were especially active, seemingly in on every defensive play and stuffing the Patistani 8-man so often that they eventually gave up and just tossed the ball out to the backs if they won the ball from a scrum. Patistan was completely shut down in the first half by these men (among others), and failed to even get the ball past the midfield stripe except via kick. They were not the offensive contributors they usually are, though Sheffield did an admirable job on line-outs. Picking up the slack were the centres, Roger Wood and Garrett Morgan. They worked in tandem the entire day, confusing the Patistani back line with fake pitches, jukes, and keen cuts through the line. Even though Patistan played fairly well defensively, they couldn't stop Wood from scoring in the 17th minute, nor Morgan in the 34th. The score was 14-0 at the half, but these two backs gashed Patistan in the second half for huge chunks of territory. Wood added his second try just six minutes in, and Morgan executed a brilliant pass to Eric Clark, who dove just inside the corner flag about midway through the second half. Quentin Foray, 3-3 on conversions, missed the trickily-angled kick, but made up for it by nailing a 25-metre penalty with twelve minutes to go to close the scoring for the Lions. Patistan added a try with two minutes remaining, when the Lions had subbed out some of their players. It didn't make it competitive, but it saved some of their dignity.

Up next for the Lions is difficult foe Xadowia. The Xadowiens are first-time participants, but the nation is rugby-mad, and they have had great success so far, going 3-0-1. They opened with a 41-3 destruction of Gregoryisgodistan, handled Jachaelter 31-7, and embarrassed Kernansquillec 52-0 before being stopped 34-10 by Ko-oren. They have feasted on the unranked teams, but looked like the inexperienced team they are against the Greenblues. They are led by their fly half, Isidore Kunakey (50 points from conversions, penalties, and drop goals), much as the Lions look to Quentin Foray for point-scoring prowess. Foray may have to prove his defensive chops to hold down his opposite number. Jean-Luc Lubanga, the inside centre, leads the team with five tries and is a force to be reckoned with. Look out, Roger Wood. Finally, the lineup released by the Xadowiens for the matchup swaps their starting hooker and loosehead prop for a pair of substitutes, presumably for subpar play. The Lions should be able to handle their opponents, but with such a young and passionate nation, the improbable could become reality.

We think the Lions are a most difficult mountain to climb for our young team, they rank 9th in the world and reached the 4th place in RUWC XXI, what else?
We need to pay great attention to the "dynamic duo": Eric Clark & Garrett Morgan are a danger for their raids in enemy territory.
Their sniper: Quentin Foray is another threat, so maximum discipline should be used in play not to allow the Lions kicking towards the poles...

We have a lot of respect for Nova Anglicana and we know they are one of the peaks in the world Rugby Union panorama, but will honour the match giiving out all the energies we have in store!

As usual the URX staff has forwarded to Nova Anglicana the invitation for their team, staff and managers to their hotel for a social event after the match, dinner, drinking and fun together.

RTVX the Xadowien state Broadcasting Corporation will broadcast on SPORT1 channel the match nationwide and we are pretty sure this will score one audience record in the Xadowian TV broadcasting history!

Tumelo Oluwaka from the Electron RUWC22 Press room

It was Lubanga again to avoid an empty scorecard for the Xadowian XV...
The rest of the match was a one-team-show by the Nova Anglicana Lions who fully deserved the victory.
Lubanga scored at the beginning of the 2nd half when the Lions had already scored their 4 tries. Kunakey converted the try, then immediately after Mapon scored a drop goal, Xadowia seemed to raise the head, and indeed the 2nd half has been far better than the 1st for our team, Lebarien sent in all the boys still on the bench, but that was not enough!

The updated scorer board is:

Point Scorers:
Kunakey (Gorillas) 52 points
Lubanga (Gorillas) 30 points
Maga (Rangers) 20 points
Mwami (Gorillas) 10 points
Mapon (Rangers) 8 points
Garcia (Avenir) 5 points
Tiao (Leopards) 5 points
Kabila (Lions) 5 points
Lamaalam (Avenir) 5 points
Tshisekedi (Impalas) 5 points

Try Scorers:
Lubanga (Gorillas) 7 tries
Maga (Rangers) 4 tries
Mwami (Gorillas) 2 tries
Garcia (Avenir) 1 try
Tiao (Leopards) 1 try
Kabila (Lions) 1 try
Lamaalam (Avenir) 1 try
Tshisekedi (Impalas) 1 try
Mapon (Rangers) 1 try

It's a pity we weren't able to prevent the Lions fron scoring their 4th try, indeed there was an error on the right side where Ouedraogo missed a tacle leaving a comfortable corridor to the NA Winger. Now Xadowia is still at the 2nd place in the Group standings, but leads only by 1 point over Nova Anglicana and we still have one match left (Patistan) while the Lions have Gregoryisgodistan and Jachaelter, which shouldn't represent a big threat for them.

"And with these results, both The Fair Republic and Western Borderlands move up in the group. As there was absolutely nothing interesting going on in the training ground of the Buyanese national team, our reporter at location Ingmar Schlesson chose for a bit of human interest."

It appears to be the new disease of modern sports. Following waves concerning performance-enhancing drugs, national leaders using the international scene for war declarations and the unsollicited use of chicken-related sacrificing, it seems that fan violence - in as far as one can speak about fans in this occasion - becomes the new black spot on the virgin-white cloth of this rugby world cup and quite some other competitions. The Electrumite organisers of this tournament were confronted with serious outbursts of violence, even going as far as assaulting officers and bystanders in the case of Western Borderlandsian fans. As a consequence, ten of these hooligans were sent off to jail after the brawl. But a lesser known aspect of this scrimmage is the role of the small yet sturdy Buyanese fan base. To get a better insight on this group, we have earned the honour to interview one of their leaders. For sake of anonymity, we shall call him X.

"Mister Rudloff, ehm X, you were present at the start of the brawl after the second game of the World Cup."
"You can say Jonath... I mean. Oh, shit, can we redo?"
"It's live, I'm afraid."
"Dammit. Ok, either way, yeah, of course we were."
"Could you describe what happened?"
"With pleasure. You should know, them Borderliners had been trying to get the vocal upper hand all game long but hah! They lost! Of course those Borderlingerers weren't much amused when we mooned them consequently and got some fun chants up..."
"Chants?"
"You know, like, a rendition of 'it's black, it's blue, it's smells like badly-burned glue, it's Boooooorderlands' and such."
"Oh, like that."
"Great feeling, man, great feeling. But after the game, they kept on mouthing so we were like, come and get us!"
"I suppose that's where the scar comes from?"
"Haha, trying to get my face with a broken bottle and only getting my cheek. What a losers. You know even what?"
"What?"
"This is live, right?"
"Most certainly, mister Ru.. Jo... X."
"Hey, Borderlovers! If you're watching... Catch us if you can!"
"Isn't that... Ehm... A bit risky?"
"What, you shit-pants. It's not like one of them is watching this show. Right?"
"Ehm..."
"What?"
...

"It seems the connection with our reporter on location got lost, but thanks anyway for this contribution Ingmar. On to football, where Viztourzys Kolektyvinis had remarkable transfer news to share!"

Match Report

The Electrumite team smashed Itanpavia 38-0 at the Deltan University Field in Agri. In a shut out match, Itanpavia simply had no answer for Electrum as Electrum sneaked through 5 converted tries and a drop goal to boot. In the first half, Centres Peter Shi and Michael Donaghue both scored tries, converted by two more excellent kicks by James Norton to convert. Finally, in the very end, a drop goal by Peter Shi in the dying minutes made Electrum lead 17-0. It was a terrible first half for Itanpavia who could not even keep possession of the ball, holding for only 32% of the time according to statistics.

And it didn't improve much for the second half for Itanpavia as well. Ferghus Web also scored a try in the first three minutes at the restart with Norton once again converting for another seven points. It was only ten minutes later that Web once again found a break in Itanpavia's line, seemingly out of nowhere to get another try. The last try was scored by Shah after a long and extended attacking phase by the Electrumites, when Norton also converted both tries, to close off an excellent run today. All in all, five converted tries and a drop goal without a single point scored for Itanpavia made this a solid day for Electrum.

They're sitting third on the table, and with matches against fellow unranked Ulapotamia and Brenecia will mean that Electrum has a high chance of advancing to the finals, given both teams recent performances.

"Santos, today the team really looked like a championship-winning team. Don't you agree?"

"Sure, but we were a championship-winning team last year. And I'd rather stay with my club, Lyra, because we win more championships there than with the national team. And heck, we even win more Seasogs titles than World Cup titles."

"Okay, but what about today's performance?"

"We sure showed them!"

"Who?"

"Dieudonné and I!"

"Who did you show?"

"The cocky wingers! They say they do more work and yield more tries than we do!"

"Not exactly what I meant, but I'll take it, uh, so you sure showed them?"

"Yup, totally did! We scored three, and the wingers only got two!"

"But what about the opponent?"

"Opponent?"

"Yeah... you played Gregoryisgodistan today."

"I didn't realise... were they any good?"

"Wait, what did you think the score was like?"

"3 tries for the centres, 2 for the wingers, one more try somewhere along the way and a couple of good conversions and penalty kicks?"

"Close, it was six tries, four conversions, three penalty kicks and a drop goal."

"For whom?"

"For Ko-oren."

"And for these opponents?"

"Uh... well, zero"

"So we won the match?"

"Uh... thank you Sergio, back to the studio!"

Western Borderlands fans march through the streets

Chants of "Borderlands! Borderlands! Borderlands!" can be heard throughout the streets of Electrum as many fans march up and down chanting in anticipation of the next match against The Fair Republic. Quite a big match as a win could propel the Western Borderlands into the round of 2 or maybe top of the group. Some may say that this is going overboard and to many, they would be right. Some fans got into scuffles with some of the residents, many beer bottles were thrown and police presence was quite heavy. Some have reported that fans have also chanted: "Down with The Cheat Republic!" over and over and over again. At the end though, the pitch will have the loudest voice no matter what and many have failed to acknowledge this.
