Cause it uses human intermediaries.
Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.
We have nothing to lose but the world. We have our souls to gain.
You!
Me.
Nothing you can possibly do can make God love you any more or any less.

Why? Some of the worst acts of humanity have been in the name of God(s).

Leave Religion to the places of worship. It has no place in governing.

Reagan was worse, for his administration supported all those islamist rebels in Afghanistan. In retrospect it would have been better to support the goddamn Soviet Union, but giving money and weapons to the people who would later spawn wonderful organizations such as the Taliban and Al Qaida seemed like a better plan in the coke-fueled eighties. Hell, even the evangelicals were in favour of supporting those bloody jihadists!

You don't quite understand what a theocracy is. A theocracy is not a government where the leaders just happen to be religious. It's a government where the civil leader is a divine being, and all officials rule because it was the will of god. These leaders claim to be in power because god put them there and that power can be horribly abused.

After the Second World War historians tried their very best to explain why nazism had nothing in common with Christianity, but that was just revisionism. The warmachines of the nazi armies still carried the Balkenkreuz, a symbol directly based upon the Christian cross, for example.

Because creating a nation based upon laws set down by savages thousand of years ago with no knowledge the political, social, and technological advances since their time is a bad idea.

They weren't communist. *shockgasphorror* ...and one socialist atrocity versus every major war until 1500? Religion breeds violence, like nationalism.

The Soviets didn't "hate Christians". They enforced State Atheism, under Stalin, but no one else. Part of this was because those religious leaders had shit on them since the Romanovs took power, and to be blunt, they deserved to be put out of a position of leadership.

Some were.
Hitler himself considered Christianity stupid and abhorrent, and only faked Christianity to gain more political power/support.

Hitlers religiosity is still heavily debated, I'm not sure anyone will ever know what he truly believed.

....he considered Catholicism stupid and abhorrent, and was skeptical of most Protestantism, but still believed and used God. I'd say he was a non-practicing non-denominational Christian. The Nazi belt buckles said "God is With Us" on them...you can't claim they were atheist.

Theocracy merely uses religion as a basis for control rather than birth aristocracy) or wealth (plutocracy) or a combination of influence and money (oligarchy).

The reason they all fail is because they concentrate and manipulate power, for the benefit of the few, and the detriment of the many.

There is a strong groundswell of public feeling against the Ayatollahs in Iran, for just that reason.

Because discriminating against others simply for holding different beliefs than you and basing policy on something with no evidence of truth is an awful idea.

I think this situation would never come into play under our traditional idea of religion. A main idea of Christianity (since most NSG players are from North America/Europe) is faith without proof. Someone voluntarily choosing worship. Someone who takes the time to dedicate themselves.
