(OOC: This is all taking place in the (relative) future, immediately after the end of qualifying, so whatever happens in this part of the tournament can be assumed to have already occurred, for good or ill.)
Part One: Little Anna and Father Patrick
In the wake of Cabinda’s fiery death came a new horror for the people of the small state, as an occupying force from West Angola swept in from the south to restore order in their former province. While malice was not intended, at least not beyond that which is inherent in imperialist ventures, several members of the West Angolan military had lost friends or relatives in the Battle of Miczchen Clearing, where the Cabindan strategy of targeting troop carriers had been dubbed a war crime by the West Angolan propaganda machine. As a result, the first several hours of occupation produced at least a dozen isolated atrocities against members of the Cabindan military. Television reports in West Angola either ignored the incidents or blamed them on the various factions in the Cabindan Civil War for which the victims had been fighting, and as such complaints and pleas to Namibe went unanswered. In the capital, however, a whole new battle was raging: a battle for the Queen’s life.

After a reign of fifteen years, the same duration as her father’s, although shorter than that of his predecessor, King Parrish, it seemed that the Queen Mother’s time on the Throne of Sien was coming to an end, as the Royal Doctors publicly proclaimed her vigorous condition but privately agreed with one another that nothing short of a miracle could save the Queen’s life. The disease which ravaged her body was unknown to them—unheard of in the era of modern medicine—and despite all their tests, equipment, and drugs, no signs of improvement had been seen in the months of effort. The only saving grace of the disease was that it did not seem to be communicable in any way, as none of the tests had observed it jumping from one host to another. However, this bright spot created only more confusion, as the disease did not appear to be genetic, which left the brightest medical experts in the country fully at a loss as to how Anna could have contracted it.

The Queen knew, but she would never tell a soul, save one man. Not because she wished to die, or enjoyed seeing her caregivers in the dark, but because she knew that to do so would help little and only speed her death. The same night she had been forced to take to her bed and Father Gaalaas had administered Anointing of the Sick, the inner court believing that she would die, many having not even known of her ailment until she’d collapsed. As the priest leaned over her holding the Chrism, through the hazy fog of a fever, she thought she saw his face change. Too weak to move and too unsure of her own sanity to believe her eyes, Anna said as loudly as her weakened state allowed (little more than a soft whisper), “Who…?”

In response, the not-priest raised a finger to his lips, “Shhh, Your Highness. No one else can see us. You’ve wronged me, little Anna, and you’ve wronged an entire nation. In fact, you’ve wronged two nations, and in harming one you harm the other. My name doesn’t matter, suffice to say I’ve been heavily invested in your nation and the one to the north for the past three decades, and while I’d developed a certain fondness for yours, the pluck of the Cabindans amused me, and I decided to let them beat you to see what they’d do. I have to say, their progress was impressive; oh, Michael Raven was a tad boring as far as politicians go, but he more than made up for with his demagoguery. The only way it could be better would be if another demagogue came along to knife him, and Raymond Hollis neatly provided the extra entertainment. When your special forces operatives came along to add a little cloak-and-dagger espionage to the mix, I was grinning like a Cheshire. The civil war allowed me an opportunity for endless entertainment, everywhere I looked in Cabinda the worst of humanity was on display, with just a smattering of decent people if I was looking for a change.”

Up to this point, his face had the look of a child remembering his or her last birthday, but now it changed, taking on a somewhat darker expression as his eyes looked at Anna accusingly, “But this… this new development you’ve precipitated is too much. I’m sure the occupation will be diverting, but Cabinda under your rule will be boring, no doubt about it, and if there’s one thing I hate, it’s being bored.”

Anna was confused, feverish, and more than a little frightened, “Wha… what does this…?”

“What does this have to do with you? Everything. It is I who have caused your body to turn against you, as a way of ensuring your cooperation. Every degree of your fever, every cough that ravages your lungs, the pallor of your face, the cramps that make you scream silently, all these and more are my doing, and there is worse in store for you if you do not follow my instructions. I worsened your condition for one night to get your attention, tomorrow you will improve slightly. Then, you will order a full withdrawal from Cabinda, immediately. No more nation-building, no more conflict resolution, and definitely no more of that awful construction in the city. Leave them to kill each other and destroy their nation, or I will kill you even more painfully. If you do everything I say, I may allow you to recover.”

Anna coughed, and she saw blood and spittle land on the not-Priest’s face, which he wiped away with some annoyance. Mustering her strength, the Queen gasped out, “Barbarian. Never.” Then her world was blotted out in white-hot pain as it seemed her organs were both slashing each other with knives and trying to tear themselves out of her body. She opened her mouth, but the pain was too much for her to even scream as she writhed on the mattress. The not-priest chuckled evilly, “That’s just a taste, little Anna. I can make your every waking moment agony still worse than that for the next month, at which point death will seem like a blessing, but even that will be terror and agony, as I will toy with you as you pass through my domain before passing on for as long as I wish. There will be no end to your suffering if you defy me, and in the end I can merely cause what I want to happen to happen anyway. I prefer to give you a chance to do so willingly, however, so please take it for your own good if nothing else.”

Anna gasped again as the pain subsided, and as she blinked she could see the familiar face of her confessor, Father Gaalaas, looking at her with some concern, “Anna? Is there anything you’d like to confess?”

Anna nodded, and one by one her other advisers and doctors streamed out of the room, leaving only the Priest and the Queen, but now their roles were different—they were penitent and confessor, one seeking forgiveness, one standing in for God—and what was said in the next hour left them both terrified of the future.

World Cup 69 - Game #1 in San Jose Guayabal

El Roblar, San Jose Guayabal - The World Cup 69 is starting on june 22nd and the Smiler delegation is getting ready to play against San Jose Guayabal, practicing on the field and visiting some museums and castles. Here is Paul Evans' press conference. Paul Evans is Miley World's manager:

"The players and I are really happy to be back on the international scene after an absence of 12 years. It feels like the Wold Cup 57 happened last year due to the time travel but we were absent for 12 years!"

"Our group this year is stronger than at the World Cup 57. At the World Cup 57, other nations in our group had made their roster public, but then, there was barely no newspaper articles or world cup news on tv. It will be different this year, San Jose Guayabal and Free Republics already published lots of stuff. It's better like that, there is a big rivalry between San Jose Guayabal and Free Republic. We're lucky to witness this rivalry. You should read all the talk about a video game in their newspapers. I'm planning to buy this video game before leaving San Jose Guayabal"

"Miley World is very strong in the midfield, that's why this year we're using a 3-5-2 formation instead of 4-4-2. We're also going to be more offensive and be taking more chances. We'll drop the defensive approach that we had last y.. I mean 12 years ago."

"Yes Felipe Vazquez will play, don't worry. He's not on the starting 11 cuz he has no international experience, he wasn't on the team 12 years ago. But he's a very good player, he'll play in the final 30 minutes of almost each games. He's going to bring lots of speed to our play."

"Well honestly I think we have no chance to win here in SJG, but we can get a draw, it's feasible."

"Thanks for your questions."

Miley World's game vs San Jose Guayabal will be played at Estadio Luis Barbosa in El Roblar, San Jose Guayabal. The game will start at 19:45 local time, which means around 4:45 or 5:45 am in Miley World. It will be broadcasted live in Miley World on 13 different channels in 11 different languages. 5 000 fans are travelling with the team to San Jose Guayabal. The newspaper have said last week that travelling to SJG wasn't so safe, but we would like to retract. We received an email from the prime minister of Miley World, Nicolas Cyrus, and he said that the Smilers travelling in SJG will be safe. The hooligans aren't a threat to Miley World. They could be a threat to Free Republics, but not to us. Also, the KGB (Guayabalense Police) will bring safety to the Smilers travelling in SJG.

Enslave Rule Theriault

Prime minister Nicolas Cyrus has anounced on tv today that Miley World will be banning the video game called "Enslave Rule Theriault". Here is Nicolas Cyrus' words:

"Despite the popularity of "Eslave Rule Theriault" in other countries, the deputies and I have decided to ban this game from Miley World. The government does not support a video game about enslaving. And this video game is too violent for Miley World. No further comments will be made about this video game."

The World Cup is just days away! Yes, just days away! As we have been reviewing, Star United States has been played in Group 15, with rather difficult and rather easy teams. Let's see what teams have been saying:

From the WolfopianBlog:
"Star United States, the third Esportivan in this group, is in a similar spot as the Wolfpack. Both teams won 5 games last Qualifying stage, but the SUS team was able to scrap together 6 draws, while the Wolfpack lost all 9 games they didn't win. Star United States debuted well before the Wolfpack, so they are a better team on paper. But their luck in World Cup Qualifying stages over the years hasn't been all that great. We'll see if they can reverse that this time.
Bottom Line: Their bad luck will continue. 5th"

From BaruniainSports.com.bu:
"Star United States are one of those teams. The team no one ranked higher expects to lose against, but no one ranked lower expects to win against. They play solid, conventional football (they're using a 3-4-3 formation), but that will only get them so far.
Prediction: 5th"

In both statements above we can see that both predict that Star United States will end in 5th, will this happen? We shall soon find out. Many fans in Star United State were outraged by this comments, but the National Soccer Association of Star United States refused to remark against this comments in an effort to keep peace between all the national teams and presses. The president of that national association did say this: "Well, everyone has the liberty to have their say on what they think, but they do not control what happens on the field. Whatever is to happen, will happen. Win or lose, 5th place or not, we will always be pround of our team. We are also Starians, not matter what. If the team wins or loses it doesn't matter, even though the win is great, all the matters is that each of our players put their hearts on the field. They play for the love of the game, and the love for Star United States. Thank you for your time."
This statement ended the press conference. What will happen? Will Star United States surprise?

Baptism of Fire 47
Star United States debuted on the international stage on May 17, 2012 in the Baptism of Fire 47 - against the South Icemark, where Star United States lost 2 to 0. Star United States' first international victory was seen during this tournament against Equatorial Sarmen on May 18, 2012. Star United States tied with The Kingdom of Qkwe and Yugiohistan. Star United States lost their last match against Mu Mu.
Following this tournament Star United States performed in the 60th World Cup, which will be spoken about in a following edition.

Postby Kazamatsuri » Mon Jul 21, 2014 4:19 am

For all intents and purposes, the Feline Shield was little more than a glorified training match.

At least, that was the way Kazamatsuri's head coach, Mad Dash, saw it. A lowly team languishing in the lower reaches of the KPB rankings were hardly an opponent to be feared – unlike the Survivors of Zenic, Gloriax had not set the world alight with their sporting performances, especially in their maiden World Cup Qualifying appearance, where the youthful Gloriaxian team had struggled badly to win over their critics, crashing out in spectacular fashion as qualifying drew to a close. Last cycle hadn't been much better for the Gloriaxians either. Same old problems plaguing the team, same old quality of performances - mediocre, and the same old result in the end.

And really? The Feline Shield? Really? He had to question the KFA and GFA's collective naming sense. Not that he minded felines too much; but to a pegasus like himself, the competition would have been far better off with a graceful name like the Celestia Hoofball Cup. Hell, he'd even be satisfied with a supremely unoriginal name like the Pegasus Wing, which had actually been put forward as a name proposal for a new Mizuyukian football team last cycle.

Shaking his head, Mad Dash set off at a rapid gallop towards the training ground at the far end of the enclosed pitch. Their opponents had been assigned a special training ground, equipped with all the state-of-the-art equipment a football team could ever want as well as the relevant facilities and amenities. Training bibs, cones, Tcp-X1s - Kazamatsuri had them all, and was only too happy to share. Mad Dash had even asked his weather team captain, Thunderburst, to work her magic as a special favour to the Gloriaxians - the pitch was a fresh, vibrant green, giving off the welcome smell of freshly-cut grass. Mad Dash did not deign to do so himself, primarily out of concern for the Gloriaxians - despite his being a pegasus, he was no great shakes at controlling the weather. Hitting their opponents with a force-nine gale or a howling blizzard was most certainly out of the question - who would play them if half the opposing team ended up frostbitten? It was too bad that he couldn't have the Kazamatsurians build a miniature weather factory for his purposes, but the fact that he had managed to snare the talented Thunderburst as part of his setup was more than enough to compensate for that.

As he surveyed the Gloriaxian team being put through their paces on the training ground by their head coach, Paul Hunter, Mad Dash barely suppressed a chortle. He was rather confident in his own B team's abilities - several Kazamatsurian U21s looked as though they were ready to make the step up to senior level, and what better way to test the youngsters' mettle than pitting them against opponents of international caliber? Despite their lowly standing within the multiverse at large, Mad Dash remained confident that Hunter's team would put up a good fight against his foals. Hazel Watts had warned him of the danger posed by Hunter's forward line - the duo of Phil and Ian Stoner were more than capable of causing havoc amongst an inexperienced defence, while their engine room, manned by Nicolas White, was nothing if not competent and willing.

The pegasus remained rooted to the spot for almost a quarter of an hour, quietly observing the nature and immanent qualities within the Gloriaxian play. His observant eyes scanned every single player, looking for flaws and irregularities - chinks in the armour that he could brutally expose and exploit.

For a moment, Mad Dash pondered his tactical set-up for the upcoming match. He had to exercise caution; for the match was finely poised, given the number of inexperienced, wet-behind-the-flank foals he'd be fielding against Gloriax in a couple of hours' time. Having seen Hunter's team with his own eyes, he determined that the weakest link in his own team - one that would, without doubt, be heavily targeted and assaulted - would be the young, enthusiastic, but defensively suspect right-back, Takumi. Mad Dash had seen, first-hand, the offensive capabilities that the young foal added to the team - with his energetic, darting attacking runs down the right flank and dynamic wing play, an on-form Takumi was one of the most potent offensive weapons Kazamatsuri had in their armoury. The problem was inherent within his style of play, however, and would not be easy to excise - his enthusiasm for getting forward and providing an outlet in the final third led to his flank being horribly exposed. As the first-choice right winger, Kaori, had no appetite for getting stuck in, the two were largely incompatible; if Mad Dash fielded the two together, their right flank would become a serious liability to the entire team, both in terms of organisational structure and serious paucity of defensive cover. The entire team would be torn apart by a savvy opponent.

Mad Dash had fielded an experimental lineup with Kaori on the opposite flank; but having been accustomed to playing as a conventional winger both at club and international level, Kaori had serious trouble adapting to her new role. When Mad Dash had made the switch, he had anticipated Kaori playing as an inverted winger a la Isshiki and Uryū of the Mizuyuki national team, but his young protege failed to live up to his expectations; the pegasus had had to pull her from the pitch after barely half an hour of play, so devoid of confidence was she after losing challenge after challenge, duel after duel, against the opposition fullback. He had her in his pocket for the entirety of the thirty minutes. And Mad Dash knew well enough, from his regularly scheduled practice matches in training, that Kaori simply could not play anywhere else other than on the wing thanks to her singular qualities; no, if she was going to play, she had to play as an out-and-out winger.

It was clear that Mad Dash was facing a dilemma. Two of his brightest attacking talents, and he was being forced to choose between them, simply because their play styles did not complement each others. At the moment, he was leaning towards picking Kaori instead of Takumi; he already had a capable right back in the form of regular Akechi Naruko, who had recently been courted by several unnamed Equestrian clubs, while there was no like-for-like replacement for Kaori.

'Right, let's go with Kaori instead of Takumi. I can always sub him on later in the match, just to give him some match practice.'

Their legs might be wobbly, but the Kazamatsurian foals had boatloads of talent. Hadn't he just witnessed, with his own eyes, the stunning rabona cross that Kaori had pulled off in training the day before, bamboozling the covering defender? Didn't his assistant manager, Arranna Sa'Martan, deliver daily reports to his desk noting the wonderful technique and supreme confidence that their months of effort had managed to instil in their charges? That Arranna summarised the foals' play as being 'evocative of the Belles at their peak' spoke volumes; Arranna was fiercely proud of her homeland's footballing heritage, and to liken the Kazamatsurians to the Belles was the highest praise she could lavish upon them.

The pegasus snorted and stamped the ground with a hoof, to ensure that it remained in good condition.

'Good. Just damp enough for conducive play.' The maintenance people had done a stellar rush job on the pitch for the Feline Shield. As a matter of course, the ground had been watered by the weather team, while several earth ponies had come in on a contract to maintain the pitch on a regular basis for the next couple of cycles. Before Mad Dash had acquired Thunderburst's skills, he had had to put up with unfavourable pitch conditions almost every day; if the pitch wasn't dry and cracking, it was muddy and slippery. It was a rare day indeed when pitch conditions met international standards.

After digging in the ground with a hoof, just for good measure, Mad Dash cantered outside the enclosed field, heading for the covered training ground where his charges were waiting. The foals had to be put through their paces one last time, just to ensure they were in tip-top condition. The pegasus snorted as he contemplated the relative fragility of the human physique. He could have done a much better job if his superiors had allowed him to naturalise ponies from his homeland, the Equestrian States, for the national team, but no! they had been absurdly obstinate in their refusal to budge from their ridiculous stance; and all that despite the sure fact that Kazamatsuri would have been all the better for it!

Mad Dash could only lament the fact that he wasn't to be allowed to dictate Kazamatsurian naturalisation policy, even for special circumstances such as these. He was doing the Kazamatsurians a favour by volunteering to oversee the Equestrian scouting programme together with Hazel Watts, for Celestia's sake!

Anyway, the pegasus had resigned himself to the fact that he was going to be chained to his human foals, at least for the next couple of cycles or so. He'd just have to bully those bureaucrats into letting him import ponies for the national team after he'd gained some political capital with the KFA; more leverage with the higher-ups was always a good thing when you were asking for favours. He'd like to see the KFA president refuse his request when he had a WC qualification with Kazamatsuri under his belt!

Snorting, he trotted off to the locker room, where his foals would be waiting. A quick warm up session, followed by a brief, peppy pre-match team talk, and they'd be good to go.

Mad Dash only hoped his young foals would do him proud out there on the pitch.

It seemed to be just another day in the small town of Bornaka, 34 kilometers south of Inans but alas, that was soon disrupted by death and devastation after the seventeen oil rigs making up the Bornakan Oilfields exploded, causing a massive environmental disaster and killing 128 workers. The fire raged on for days, as efforts to douse it were fettered by the inaccessibility of the town, having one way in and one way out that was through Inans, which had the same problem.

The deaths of the 128 workers and the ensuing environmental disaster led the Drakonian government to ask questions of it's oil extraction practises, and soon led to squabbling between the Liberal and Conservative coalitions about the resolution. As the Liberals had the majority, oil extraction was scuppered with many regulations, essentially killing the industry.

The clean-up was finished after just 2 weeks, and the oil was essentially removed from the surface and destroyed, although most of it was destroyed in the fire anyway. President Matthew Parker asked that the Drakonian flag be flown at half mast to honour the victims of the Bornaka Oil Disaster.

On The Lash With The Lads

Screwed, buggered, cheated, whatever. Another qualification campaign down the drain, and we ain't even started. I really don't like to admit it but perhaps the wife was right. For years I've flown the flag you see at the old north stand of Kahali National Stadium, yeah that's right the one with 'Kalumba Kids Wife, That Order' on it, but since that triumph first time round on the true international stage all those years ago the team have just flopped.

Not that the draw has ever helped us, every time we get previous winners or one of the top ten ranked sides in the world and then we never perform against the few closely ranked sides we get. Even the occasional lucky point or three against the top side were thrown away in pathetic draws or defeats against the lowly teams that should be dispatched with ease by the Kudus.

Perhaps it is time to move on with George Davies, now I know the man is a legend, the man who put us on the map with the victory in the Baptism of Fire but since then he has been resting on his laurels and never really produced a team to excite. The veteran side of the BoF triumph never managed to move on to the next level and have nearly all retired or been dropped to the bench for the occasional cameo appearance and the exciting young side of the last two or three tournaments has never fulfilled its potential and looks nowhere near as good as the Kariba Spears side from which they mainly originate.

Who would replace Davies? Buggered if I know, I'm a drunken old bigot but I think the time has come to move on and try something new. I'd even take a foreign manager at this point if it would bring about something better than this.

Patistan National News:We Bring it to you first Or second

"Hello i am Khalid Malik with Patistan Sports. As most of you know that today is the start of qualification for World Cup 69 which will be hosted in the nations of Apox and the Holy Empire. Patistans first match is against the not so famous "Channel 4 news team"s football team does that even make sense? the team failed to win any of their Baptism of fire matches and finished last in the group with 2 points. The squad whichs names are still unknown have arrived in Patistan and are due to be playing at the Tachi National stadium. The teams arrival wasnt so "excited" upon because it is predicted to be a easy win for the hosts, and the Patistani team really needs all the points they can get. Chances of qualifying started becoming dim at the draw in which patistan was placed into a very "competitive" group. The group is as follows.

Group 16
Patistan
Rüntenbach
Notsofreeland
Mamaroneck
The Inevitable Syndicate
Brenecia
Dainer
The Channel 4 News Team

The Patistani team has the 4th highest rank in the group, the group which is consisting of Runtenback and The Inveitable Syndicate is enough to make a Patistani supporter cry in fright.

The Patistani team has been criticized by many analysts, the main reason for the "constructive" criticism is because of the involvement of inexperienced players like James Hussam the striker and Talat Hussain the 27 year old defender. Their was also worries from some conservative Patistanis in the involvement of Zesh Rehman the Lamaland national who is playing for Patistan due to his ethnicity. The criticism was rebutted by head coach Nassear Murad he said in a press conference

"The players i have chosen have my trust i have my trust in them, after the disastrous qualification campaign in the last world cup i had to change some "defunct" members. These players will get us to qualification or at least close to it,but even being close to qualifying is not a embarrassment for our team which is placed in this tough squad. We do expect a win against Channel 4 news team and we will get it,thank you that is all"

Well as you can see the coach has put his trust in the team and the matches that will follow will show if he has done the right thing or not. After today's match the Patistani team shall face the squad of Runtenbach which will be a hard hurdle to cross for the young team. Their has been mention of some members of the squad notably the patriotic captain Shaheer Shazib and Zia Faraz, both have been mentioned in a article by a Brenican news agency.

The TAP Tourist association of Patistan are welcoming all tourists from countries with open arms. The association has told some guidelines in a public conference, but the official paper is still to be released. All preparations for the match against Channel 4 have been finished at the Tachi National Stadium, this will be the first match which the stadium is hosting and hopefully it will be a win in the favour of the Patistani team.

As for me i will meet with you tomorrow.

This is Khalid Malik with signing of with

"We know we're underdogs"
The Mehdonesian Times

With 2 days now remaining until Mehdonesia play their first game of the World Cup 69, we managed to get an interview with manager Stan Jockall,

Sports representative-"Now that theres only 2 days remaining until your first game against Nephara, are you sure of your tactics for this game."

Jockall-"Yup, in fact here have our formation for the game (hands sheet), post it in the paper. The fans should know."

SR-"Are you sure, I mean, surely that would enable other teams to counter your formation and play a team which opposes yours well"

Jockall-"Are you questioning me?! I'm the manager of the national team mate, you are the sports representative of a newspaper. I know what I'm doing."

SR-"I'm truly sorry for any offence caused, moving onto the match itself; how do you rate your opponent Nephara?"

Jockall-"I can think of one word to describe the team at this point, 'meh'. I rarely see an easier victory than this."
(Assistant manager Casimero Picasso lets out an exasperated sigh as he attempts to bury his head into the table beside Jockall)

SR-"... Okay, well we see from your formation sheet that you have opted for a different formation to the regular 'Mehdonesian Tree' (4-3-2-1). Do you think that this will have a negative impact on the players or have they regularly practiced this formation?

Jockall-"Well I wouldn't know as haven't attended one training session in the last 5 years, however if these players don't pull it off you have my full reassurance that they will be treated accordingly."

SR-"Not a single one?! Bu..."

Jockall(interrupting)-"You are a f***ing SPORTS REPRESENTATIVE, OKAY?! One more question before these guys escort you off of the premises."

SR(shivers)-"Umm okay, how do you rate your chances in this tournament overall?"

Jockall-"I'd be lying if I said I was sure we could win, however i expect at least to reach the semi-finals" (Extremely unlikely)

Despite this 2 hours later we had an interview scheduled with assistant Casimero Picasso, after continous apologies he agreed to answer the questions in a civil manner,

SR-"How do you rate your chances against Nephara?

CP-"Whilst I truly believe in the quality of our squad, I still cannot deny the strengths of the Nepharan squad. They are seen as one of, if not, the best team in the region. We know we are underdogs-perhaps with one exception- and this is why we have chosen to mix it up with this new strategy. A victory here would be huge however we are more likely to shut up shop, retain possesion and look for the draw as a result, the last thing that we want is to start the tournament with a big deficit."

SR-"With all due respect, I don't view a 3-5-2 as the best defensive formation..."

CP-"It may appear that way, but with 5 midfielders we can keep the ball for the majority of the game, and if they don't have it they can't score."

SR-"Are the players used to this formation?"

CP-"Of course we are prepared for all circumstances, despite this, the particular formation here is not the most comfortable for the players. I have all of the faith that they can play any formation to the expected standard as these are experienced players."

SR-"This will see youngster Kennet Török play nationally for the first time, do you view it as a risk playing a 15 year old in a tournament such as this?"

CP-"Not really, no more of a risk than playing any player. He has a lot of quality and he already fits in well with the team."

SR-"Do you think it's possible to reach the semi-finals as Jockall has said?"

CP-"We're going to take it one game at a time, let's see if we can pass the group stages first."

Here is the formation referred to in the article,

Meanwhile on the bench will be Gnomes, Blue, G.Gillingham, Baanders and Wojda.

Fixtures
22/07/14- vs Nephara (seed 2)
23/07/14-vs ORCA bay(seed 3)
24/07/14-vs Kandorith(seed 4)
25/07/14-vs Arkiasas(seed 5)
26/07/14-vs Vaugania(seed 6)
27/07/14-vs Kiryu-shi(seed 8)
28/07/14-vs Terres des Gaulles(seed 1)

Should Török finish the match, he will be the youngest in Mehdonesian history to do so. Previously 14 year old Brandon Schlott replaced injured striker Michael Cliffton with 8 minutes remaining until full-time. This match will see full-back Andy Heweer miss his first game since he was called up to the squad, as Giles Gillingham (being able to play both left and right back) takes his place on the bench. Meanwhile Zielinski will play in central midfield for the first time for the Mehdonesian squad, out of all of the recently called up players, only Török makes the team.

BSM stadium open just in time for World Cup 69 qualifying bid

Baychester-Saint-Michel has been approved to enter in League 3 as the nation's newest football club as it stadium marked its completion in June 2014. The stadium broke ground originally in March of 2011, after a plan was drafted up following Alexanderburn's hosting of the Football Cup 2010. It has been said that Jan Luis Calciorotti, the former coach of the Alexanderburnese national team who has coached many other teams to huge successes (aside from the Blue and White, of course), will likely be taking post as the honorary manager of the new club. The stadium will make its debut on 22 July 2014 for the country's opening match in its bid to qualify for the World Cup 69, and it will be supported by the newly and promptly finished White Line train, although easy access is also available from the previously existing Yellow Line for a 5 minute walk.

"This is all part of a plan to bring business back to Saint Michel," noted borough Mayor Reko Bucan. "In the past six years or so, the borough has improved significantly - for example in that time frame, we've dropped from the most dangerous borough in the city to a murder rate below the city average and at a number one-third of what it used to be. For this, we can thank investment, determination, and belief, from both our citizens as well as our businessmen."

Saint Michel, a borough just across King's Bay from the city centre, is home to over 2 million Alexanderburnese residents and makes up over a quarter of the city of Baychester's population. Until now, the only football club in the entire city to be in one of the top leagues has been FC Baychester, but many fans are becoming increasingly disappointed with its inability to deliver the gold.

"In the past five years or so, I've seen them achieve fifth - once," commented a fan who wished to remain anonymous. "It's quite a disappointment to have to face supporters from other teams in other cities and only be the fifth best when our city is the first best at everything else nationwide. Then again, Dundalk has been showing quite a disappearance from the top two contenders in the past few seasons, so I guess a new era of football in the country is emerging. One where people are crossing province lines to become fans of teams hundreds or thousands of kilometres away and are cheering for their nation first rather than their own local team. Except in places like Dundalk, of course, where the fan base will be heavy no matter what happens."

The national team, on another note, has decided to permanently crown Diego Holierhoek as the team captain once and for all, replacing the aging and ever disappearing Marcel Schroeder, who will reprise his role on the big stage tomorrow night as the attacking midfielder that the nation desperately needs him to be.

"You know, not all the time do I fit into the team's tactical lineup or strategy," the former captain Schroeder noted. "But when [the coach] puts me in, I'm always ready to give it my all and I always do." Schroeder, who has netted 10 goals in 57 matches, more than any other player except the strikers and attacking midfield wingers, is proving himself to be worthy of playing on the national team despite previous doubts.

"He's our good luck charm if not anything else," noted Holierhoek. "I think almost all the games in which he's scored have brought us a victory, and that is the true showing of a captain whom I wish to live up to."

Everything's ready for the kickoff of the World Cup Qualifiers!
Kernansquillec City, Kernansquillec
It is just a matter of hours to see United Eastedge involved in a new adventure, the World Cup Qualifying. Alright, many people would think that the navies would be celebrating during these days without matches, but Masson decided to begin training early to get those valuable three points. The navies played a friendly match against Red Blackiland, a team which also participated in the Baptism of Fire 56, being eliminated in the Quarter-Finals against the Runner-ups, The Fallenmark Islands. The match took place at the home of the reddish-blacks, the Red Glorious Stadium with an attendance of 41,234 people, the majority dyed of red and black color and willing to support the home team in order to see them defeat the champions of the Baptism of Fire 56.

Could you tell me more about Red Blackiland? Of course, dear reader. Red Blackiland was between the 8-best teams of the Baptism of Fire, failing to make the Semi-Finals. It is a country that is also suffering an important growth in football as well as the increasing development of their leagues and tournaments, which surely will cause an increasingly level to the national team. In the Road to Apox and The Holy Empire, they were drawn into the Group 9, sharing it with The Royal Barangay, The Jasminia Islands, Torisakia, Nassau-Hessen, Green Highland, Blouman Empire, and Carialus. Besides, they are currently ranked 223rd of the world with 1.55 KPB Points. If we talk about tactics or strategies, the reddish-blacks are very organized. Nonetheless, they use a weird and modern 3-3-3-1, which seems to work properly for them.

The navies jumped to the field with Enrique Sanders, George Lloyd, Jeffrey Pratt, Jared Russell, Sean Wilkins, Gordon Bowman, Grady Christensen, Chris Dixon, Garry Blair, Harold Moss, and Wilson Ramirez. The majority of them did not played in the Baptism of Fire nor were called for it. In the other hand, it is Red Blackiland with Martín Hargreaves, Van der Héensen, Julian Báhsten, Rodrigo Costa, Rodriguinho, Thiago Costa, Nicolás Valbuena, Phillip Buckéhr, Juliano Matheus, Steven Le Tallec, and Gerard Béhckestander. It is expected that the majority of them will be part of the starting eleven this Tuesday against the team of Torisakia, which will be the first opponent of the reddish-blacks.

And there they were, the 22 men standing over the field, ready to start playing to increase the hopes of doing it well in the World Cup 69 Qualifiers. The ref was looking at his watch waiting a few minutes to start the match at 7:00 PM; he started out it, the ball began to roll, and the grandstand began to cheer on a friendly match that smelled to World Cup Qualifiers. At the tenth minute, Gerard Béhckestander scored the first goal for Red Blackiland causing a madness in the grandstand of the Red Glorious Stadium. The first goal happened earlier than what was expected; the reddish-blacks were above in the scoreboard. Nonetheless, the champions of the Baptism of Fire, began passing the ball quickly over the back and the midfield waiting for them to advance to their half trying to steal the ball after the ref resumed the match.

Minutes were passing with both teams struggling for the ball over the midfield, without stepping the box. Harold Moss took the ball and he ran toward outside of the box, thereafter, he gave the ball to Wilson Ramirez, who slammed the ball into the crossbar. Immediately, Valbuena took the ball and he ran all the way through the right band of the field, waiting for a mate to place himself within the box. Incredibly, Steven Le Tallec scored the second for Red Blackiland on a match that seemed easy for the home team in the first minutes due to the poor level showed by the navies. Red Blackiland increased their advantage over the team led by Masson; they were winning, 2-0 after 41 minutes since the ball began to roll.

The second half started out after a motivational coversation between Marcos Masson and his players. He also made some changes to improve the level of football of the navies. At the sixty-fourth minute, Chris Dixon took the ball in the midfield after stopping Valbuena. He gave the ball to Harold Moss, who made a sprint toward the box and tried shooting on goal, but Rodrigo Costa blocked that shot committing a foul outside of the box and just meters away from Hargreaves' goal causing a direct free kick in favor of United Eastedge. Hargreaves ordered his mates how to form the wall, while Wilson Ramirez placed the ball on the ground. He stepped back, thereafter, he made a strong shot toward the left lower angle of the goal. The ball hit the post and crossed the line, being a valuable goal scored by Ramirez in order to discount one more to the reddish-blacks.

In football are many kind of manners in which the matches conclude. Sometimes, the team that is winning stay in the back trying to maintain their advantage but the thing is that they don't know how to finish the opponent once and for all and that's was not the exception of Red Blackiland this time. The home team was doing nothing, they even could not touch the ball for a while and the navies took advantage of that situation. It seemed to be over for the team led by Masson cosidering the few minutes left. At the eighty-seven minutes, Grady Christensen had the ball, he looked at the time in the big screen of the stadium and immediately, he began running toward the band approaching to his mate, Dallas Wheeler, who entered at the fifty-fifth minute. Christensen gave a pass to Wheeler, who ran all the way through the baseline passing the ball diagonally toward the box. Garry Blair headed the ball defeating the goalkeeper in the struggle for it in the air, scoring the equalizer for United Eastedge.

Part of the grandstand was leaving the stadium after the equalizer and the reddish-blacks seemed to be tired. At the ninety-third minute, Wilson Ramirez made a shot within the box after being passing the ball together with Garry Blair between the defenders. He scored the third for the champions of the Baptism of Fire, who showed once again to be a team that struggles during the 90 minutes in which the ball is rolling. Minutes after, the ref ended the match once and for all. Good news for the navies. They have shown another of their capabilities, which is to return in a match that seems to be lost. That attitude definitely will be needed to face the opponents of the upcoming World Cup 69 Qualifiers, which will begin this Tuesday.

Next up, is the team of Kernansquillec. A team that suprisingly have qualified for the World Cup Finals once and now, they are the first obstacle on the path of United Eastedge in his way to the Finals. The match will be tomorrow at the National Stadium or Green Jewel in the capital, Kernansquillec City, Kernansquillec. With a capacity of 110,000 people surely will be some noise.

“So, I heard about your deal with Zenit Attawapiskat. Congratulations but be careful, club football is a much different game than national team football,” Sanders said into the phone to fellow manager Duval.

Sanders was currently in a car headed to the airport to fly over to Lleidia, who were Zenic's first opponents for this world cup cycle qualifiers. He had already sent the team plus Golovkin and Dr. Wakahisa ahead earlier in the week so they would not deal with jetlag.

“Thank you for your concern, Sanders. I appreciate it. However, I think I’ll manage the pressure and criticism well. Now, you, on the other hand, have much more to worry about with the pressure of trying to finally qualify for the World Cup and everything else. Myself and everyone else on the under 15 squad and staff are supporting you all the way,” Duval said, hoping to reassure Sanders, knowing full well of his condition. “Let’s hope so,” is all Sanders replied.

The car came to a slow stop before Sanders looked out the right backseat window to see the private jet used by ZFAF to fly important members to and from places. “Sorry, but I’m going to have to cut this call short: I've made it to the airport. I’ll see if we can speak again later,” Sanders said. “Of course. Have a safe flight and good luck in your match. Talk to you later,” replied Duval. “Likewise. Bye.” Sanders turned off the phone before stepping out of the car. It was a fairly nice day with a light breeze and a bit of cloud cover so the flight shouldn’t be too bad.

Sanders walked straight to the steps and onto the plane. Meanwhile, two workers unloaded the two bags of luggage from the car and loaded it onto the jet. By that time, Sanders had already strapped his flimsy seat belt and been served a glass of whiskey. Right now, all his mind could think of was group 6. It was a decent group that was slightly easier than last cycle’s group.

But still, it was no easy walk in the park. As if anything ever was.

“So, what if we had, like a time machine, yeah, and we could, you know, go back in time and persuade all the best footballers to come back with us to play in this one off World Cup, how great would that be? You know, Aruna Traore in goal, George Webo right back, Tomasz Poborsky at centreback and Rudolpho beside him, Ousmane Kaka at left back with Hugo Anderson, Lionel Johnson, Aydin Sukur and Jordi in midfield while Abel Cain and Ishmael Van Dyke played up top.

Now that’d be a team. Globe Cup champions, Di Bradini Cup winners, numerous Pocoan and overseas titles, their list of accomplishments (despite never winning an international tournament goes on and on). I mean, just look who we’d have. Van Dyke became the highest paid Pocoan player in history when he moved to Sarzonia and Rudlpho became the first Pocoan to ever play in Valanora. Hugo Anderson looked great in an Arrigo Portuguese shirt while Lionel Johnson must have been the most naturally talented footballer to ever play for The Whites.

But these were players whose faces we recognised, international superstars, they were in the prime of their career and let’s face it, there’s no way they would ever believe you had a time machine, let alone come with you if you suggested they appear in World Cup 69. They had lives here, in this timeline, accomplishing everything we just mentioned a paragraph up from this one. They’d be curious though.

They’d ask why, why do you need us to come with you to the future? What happened? We were on the cusp of a footballing zenith. The nation had hosted the Baptism of Fire, The Cup of Harmony, The Copa Rushmori and The World Cup. We had two teams in the TQCC every season and had crept out way into the top ten in the World. What happened so that we no longer have a football team we can rely on to qualify for the World Cup?

Civil War, we’d tell them, and they might not believe it, we’d always been a pretty peaceful nation and the king had ruled over his people quietly and competently for years. But then he pegged it and we were left with his two horrific sons fighting over power. Obviously everything collapsed and that included football. We merged leagues with Pasarga, as and when we remembered to send teams to play and then, poof. Football was gone. We haven’t had a full team sheet since World Cup 60 and that’s what? Like 36 years ago....

If the stars of the past couldn’t be called upon though, who would travel with you? A desperate band of time splitting football pirates? The misfits. The no-hopers. Those whose egos were out of whack with their actual ability. Those who didn’t play for the love of the game, but the glory, the cold hard cash money.

So, I feel like this time machine idea isn’t a bad one. We just need, you know, some players. Because obviously, I have a time machine, this was all just hypothetical jibber-jabber.”

Vanersholm Daily Post
The World Cup Qualifiers Awaits
By: Sigurd Albrektson

Despite brutal civil war going on the whole country awaits for Vanersholm maiden voyage in the World Cup qualifiers. Fighting is reported to be halted when the matches start so civilians and combatants from both Royalist and Republican sides can watch the game without worry of possible attack. Going to the World Cup itself, the Vanersholmare national team has a tough road to the final as we were placed in a difficult Group 6 that contains the likes of Ko-oren, Zenic, Svengarda and hated enemies Semarland. Despite our lowly ranking I personally believe will do well against these teams. I predict a hard fought 4th place finish.

Now before I get detailed on this prediction let's know our groupmates a little bit better. Starting with highest ranked (in this group) Ko-oren. Ko-oren has a aging team, despite this fact (and good news for our relatively younger side) we expect this nation to be dominant on the pitch against anyone but signs of aging will show in the late parts of the game as players with older legs will tire and fail to do their jobs. Despite these facts I think their experience in the multiversal stage is too much for us and we will lose both matches. Next up is Svengarda a Nordic sounding nation. They haven't released their roster yet but judging from past reports this is a dangerous team, like Ko-oren I doubt we can compete with them. Predicting a surprise draw at home and a lose away.

Zenic is a highly rated team, this country won their Baptism of Fire (something we will never say unfortunately) and that momentum is still propelling the Zenic team as they did very well last World Cup qualifiers. This team a rising power but I believe we can steal a win at home from them but manage a loss at their home. Darvale is a interesting team, they are a solid one but there isn't anything remarkable from them. One player to look out though is Darrell Burns. He might not be their main striker but this guy is dangerous in the box especially in free kicks and in corner kicks. Predicting a win for Vanersholm at home and a draw away. Crystal Empire is another team we will be facing and to be honest, we know nothing about this team. We do know they are some type of sapient ponies. Can predict anything really, I hope for a win in both matches.

One of the last teams we got is Semarland a hated team in the Vanersholmare nation. They defeated us in the Round of 32 and it still outrages us that we were unjustly eliminated by such a petty team. Predicting two big wins for Vanersholm as we want to show this nation that we mean business and we are much, much better than them. Lastly we have the unknown St Iago Isles. Like the Crystal Empire we have very little information off these guys and like my unsure prediction with the Crystal Empire I predict two victories against them. Although to be honest I think we will have a easier time beating the St. Iago Isles rather than Crystal Empire. I heard that the Crystal nation is in the top 100 of the rankings, something we should take account for.

Speaking of the Crystal Empire we will face them first at their turf, hopefully we can beat them and start our maiden campaign with flying colours. That's all from Vanersholm wishing good luck to our national team, hopefully they can unite this fractured nation. Good bye and until next time.

Lions Look to Challenge This Time

Hayden Landers, Nova Anglican Football Today

The Lions' 3rd World Cup qualifying attempt will get under way soon, as the Lions prepare to travel to the Republic of Vietnam for their first game. The Lions have finished in 4th place in their group in each of their other two qualifying campaigns, and look to improve on that. They were in the running for a playoff spot in the last edition of qualifying, but losses to higher-ranked San José Guayabal and the Licentian Isles doomed their chances and they finished with 25 points, a three point improvement in two fewer games over WC 67 qualifying.

This particular go-round is notable for a couple of reasons. One, it will serve as sort of a farewell tour for the three veterans who have carried this team through international competition: goalkeeper Julian Neal, sweeper Giuseppe Carbone, and striker Raphael Baptiste. The three of them are all at least 34, and this will almost certainly be their final WC qualifying campaign. The Lions will want to see them off in style. The best way to do that is, of course, to qualify for the World Cup itself (in Apox and the Holy Empire), but this is a tall order.

The second reason this campaign is notable is that this will be the first national side with players playing for non-domestic clubs. Exciting youngsters Jimmy Kelly and Kyle Fleming have moved to the nation of Cosumar's first division, while level-headed young Cesár Mártinez looks to play a pivotal role for McKleigh's Citizen United. Bradley Lancaster signed with Trojana in the Royal Kingdom of Quebec's Premier Division. Buyanese club Sparta Torspeda are in talks with Vinovium United for dynamic young midfielder Emmanuel Moga, though haggling over Moga's contract and the transfer fee have delayed his move. His development in such a strong league as Buyan's is vital to the Lions' future success, as Moga makes his first initial national side roster (he dressed, but did not play against Eura in WC 68 qualifying) and Moran has indicated that Moga is capable of playing a big role with the Lions in future campaigns.

In order to prepare for WC 69, the Lions played several friendlies against various teams. Their first game was a visit to the Star United States, ranked 101st in the world. There, the Lions battled SUS, eventually coming away with a 2-1 victory, with Raphael Baptiste scoring a goal in the 76th minute to give the Lions the lead. This came after David Pelletier's 54th minute goal to tie the score. The Lions also played a game against an Osarian trial squad in Osarius, but fell 1-0. Obviously the 5th-ranked team in the multiverse can put together a reserve squad to compete with anyone. The Lions also played two home games, against The Royal Kingdom of Quebec (whom we have faced in ice hockey multiple times), and the Kytler Peninsulae (in the new Kytlerian-designed Amity Park in Noviomagus). Unfortunately, those games did not have happy results. An 88th minute goal gave the Grim Reapers a 1-0 victory and the Kytler Peninsulae scratched out a scoreless draw. Although the Grim Reapers are ranked 54th in the world, a draw would have been nice progress, and manager Patrick Moran will have to be disappointed with the result against the 213th-ranked team.

To make matters worse, steady center defender Devin Osborne suffered a meniscus tear in the game against the Kytlerians. The tear is not severe, but it will be enough to keep him out of qualifying, as he will need surgery, then rest, and finally rehab. He could return in the unlikely event the Lions make the World Cup itself. Osborne forms an integral part of the Lions' central defense and is instrumental in controlling and denying the ball in the midfield area, so he will be missed. Early reports indicate that Salomon Balderas will replace him, as Moran wants a veteran and would like to save the towering Barrett Brandt as a trump card of sorts for late-game set pieces. Development is important, so do not be surprised if we see younger players Matt Ross or even Bradley Lancaster get a start or two, though they are both fullback types rather than centre backs. Osborne's spot on the roster will be taken by former U20 star Casey Bowman (who we'll probably see on the side for good in WC 70), who also signed with Trojana in the offseason.

As for the draw, the 85th-ranked Lions (out of 382 in the multiverse) were drawn into Group 5. Their groupmates include #25 Jeruselem, a team of mixed men and women who have a bit of an airhead reputation, #337 Gustavpolis, who won a single game in the 56th Baptism of Fire, #136 Republic of Vietnam, #44 New Montreal States (whom the Lions baseball team are more familiar with), #83 Nexxus Drako (an Esportivan nation that has dragons playing for them), #284 Westfield House, who missed out on goal differential in the group stage of BoF 56, and #229 Azrea, who made it to the quarters of BoF 56 before being seen off by Absurdly Polite Gentlemen (Westfield House and Azrea were in the same group, so there could be a potential rivalry brewing here).

Important OOC Note: Devin Osborne will be replaced in the starting lineup by Salomon Balderas unless stated otherwise.

As for predicted order of finish, I like this one (qualifying teams in bold):

1. Jeruselem- hard to bet against the 25th-ranked team in the multiverse that qualified for the last WC, but the Lions lucked out getting them as their top seed, as they don't approach Eura in rank
2. New Montreal States - (no roster as of yet, but they're giants in the sporting world, and everyone else in the group is just too far behind
3. Nova Anglicana - (this will likely be a distant third, but the Lions have a great shot at taking the bronze)
4. Nexxus Drako - (Dracons are on the wane, with apathy rising in terms of football)
5. Republic of Vietnam - (scored 17 points from 14 games in last qualifying go-round, won't challenge higher but shouldn't fall further)
6. Azrea - (excellent debut, but they won't amount to much in this stage, still a dangerous side)
7. Westfield House - (they might stay in a few games with goal-scoring ability, but don't expect them to shock anyone)
8. Gustavpolis - (I will be surprised if they notch more than two points)

And now for the schedule:
Match Day 1 - Republic of Vietnam vs. Nova Anglicana
Match Day 2 - Nova Anglicana vs. New Montreal States (in Londinium, at Kelly Park, cap. 42,000)
Match Day 3 - Nexxus Drako vs. Nova Anglicana (The Dragon's Den - Drako City - 85,000 capacity)

Ditka Kicks Off In One Day

Reported By Jeff Ditka
7/21/2013

Ditka is back for their second World Cup qualifying, and they're better than before. The Great Ditka himself has chosen the toughest prisoners to play for a shorter sentence. The Great Ditka has promised for every win, he'll take 20 minutes off their sentence. For every loss, a player's family member gets executed for putting shame to the country.

Ditka is only ranked 209 with a KPB of 1.09. They are ranked 6th within the group; ahead of Raussland and Queer Poco el Mono Ara. Ditka will be the definite underdog in this "Group of Death." Ahead of Ditka is some tough competition, including 4th globally ranked Valladares and 39th ranked Darmen. Although Ditka's chances are slim, can they pull an upset?

Schedule

MD1: vs. Furellum Ranked: 96 KPB: 8.97
MD2: vs. Darmen Ranked: 39 KPB: 20.71
MD3: vs. Queer Poco el Mono Ara Ranked: 358 KPB: 0.00

MD6: vs. Bonticello Ranked: 172 KPB: 3.49
MD7: vs. Valladares Ranked: 4 KPB: 40.17
Break

MD14: vs. Valladares Ranked: 4 KPB: 40.17

Soccer isn't too popular in Ditka, even The Great Ditka himself. But after hearing the benefits of having a team enter the World Cup, he immediately started a squad and forced every television station to show the upcoming games. With no TV, will Ditkans be watching the World Cup?

The starting roster has no experience from soccer other than the training The Great Ditka has given them. The few players the excelled made the roster, but their isn't too much known about these player. The only thing that is known is starting captain Ezio Ditka has a life sentence on 25 accounts of murder and calling The Great Ditka, "A sausage crazed Dictator." which is against the law because The Great Ditka can only be known as a Ditkatator. Ezio will be playing for his life.

Can the Ditkans pull an upset and qualify or like most underdogs, get eliminated. History will be made, and hopefully, it's a story of triumph.
"All must eat sausage; All hail the Great Ditka!"
Anyone who doesn't shall be thrown to the bear pit.

Previously...

475km NW of El Roblar, San Jose Guayabal

2 hours ago, An Aeroquebec’s Airbus A340-600 lifted itself up from the Sangti International Airport, The Royal Barangay. This leg of the flight was a short one, the 4 hours and 15 minutes across Southern Esportiva, to San Salvador, San Jose Guayabal. It was part of much longer route that starts at Kingston, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, with two stops in Attawapiskat, Royal Kingdom of Quebec; and Sangti, The Royal Barangay. It was a well-travelled route, with the very day’s flight being extremely packed. This is due to two primary reasons: One was the large number of Barangayans and Guayabalese in the city of Kingston, where their communities are probably the largest in the nation. The demand was there enough to warranty a daily, non-stop flight(using Boeing 747-400) on Kingston, as well as this one.
Second was the cheaper flight fare for many of those potential and actual passengers. With the cost of this flight being $50 Quebecois ($150 NS) cheaper than the direct flights to either Sangti or San Salvador, it was a perfectly affordable option for those who’re lacking financial versatility to actually take the direct flight to either of those destinations. Due to this reason, Aeroquebec operated the route with 95% occupancy rate on average, with customers having to make their reservations months beforehand, in order to take advantage of the cost it provided. Not to mention the large number of businessmen and honeymoon couples travelling in the Upper or Business Class.

The Airbus A340-600 was a main fixture to the airline, who operated the type in its main transcontinental routes to its more travelled routes in Esportiva and Rushmore. The type, since introduced in 2002, has mostly replaced B747-400 in Aeroquebec’s Kingston and Halifax bases, as well as lesser-travelled main routes in Montreal and Quebec City hubs. This plane was the first of the airline’s 24 A340-600s, being delivered to the airline 13 years ago (14th of July, 2003). It has been painted multiple times for the Quebec City-based airline's scheme designs, which include promotions for couple of computer games made by El Eireann Entertainment Company(3EC). In fact, this plane was fit with the promotional scheme for Enslave Rule Theriault, the company's latest multiversal blockbuster.

Leading the flight crew was 51-year old Captain David Goldberg, who’s been in the Aeroquebec for 36 years. Being among the most experienced of Aeroquebec’s captains for its A340s, he has flown for over 14,000 hours with the airline. He got involved in two hijackings in the past, one in a domestic route and another a short-distance flight to Ko-oren. On either cases he made out alive and safe, without a single death from the rest of the plane. Right next to him was 36-year old Auguste Peron, a brand-new first officer to the airline. Before his joining to Aeroquebec weeks earlier, he served 12 years with the Felixian Airlines, where he most recently was flying Boeing 747-400s on trans-Esportivan routes. He was on his way to San Salvador, where after a sleep, he’ll be on a flight to Montreal on its brand new Boeing 747-8I. Boeing 747s were among his expertise and the Aeroquebec-Norrehavnese Airlines’ Group to buy and introduce 25 747-8Is was among the reasons why he was recruited to the group.

Now 2 hours into the flight, the flight crew was well into the cruising mode, 34,000 feet above the sky. This part of the flight was a fairly dull one, as the plane has to travel over the high mountain range of San Jose Guayabal while on autopilot, which did most of the things for them while on cruise mode. At around same time, flight crew started its contact with the Air Traffic Control Tower at El Roblar not far away from where they’re at. It was the second last of the ATCs(Pierda Labrada’s the last one) before the final ATC to contact at San Salvador International Airport.

“Good afternoon, El Roblar. This is Aeroquebec 69, on co-ordinate 6551,5906.” Captain Goldberg contacted the El Roblar ATC, now about 560km away from a major Guayabalese city. Within about 40 minutes the aircraft would bypass the city and the infamous Communism Peak of Santa Marta, the latter of which was just 10,000 feet below the aircraft.

“Aeroquebec, El Roblar. Roger, cleared for San Salvador. Cortez and upper red 37 to Bourcier-Hartikainen and the standard routing. Maintain altitude 340.” The nearby ATC officer at El Roblar responded to the Captain. This air corridor was not that well flown for this time of the day, with the preferences by Aeroquebec and Norrehavnese Airlines to fly to the left or right by around 100-200km of the air.

“Roger. Right air Cortez to Bourcier-Hartikainen and the upper Red 37 Aeroquebec 69, maintain 340.” He responded right away, with the First Officer to use his speaker for the mid-air announcement shortly after. With the local time being around 14:30, it was an ideal time for late breakfast in the flight.

“Ladies and gentlemen. We’ll be serving breakfast in about 10 minutes.” First Officer Peron spoke to his passengers on the small mic at the seat, notifying them of the sole in-flight meal for the day. Being a legacy carrier, Aeroquebec was obligated to serve an in-flight meal, free of charges, in flights that take longer than 4 hours. As this leg normally takes around 5 hours, with it heading from Kingston, it guaranteed its passengers an automatic, hot, fresh meal made by the local restaurants serving gourmet meal.

.........

Among the passengers in first class was Jean-Pierre Park, the chief Esportivan scout for Zenit Attawapiskat. A longtime scout with the local team of his, the 51-year old was responsible for bringing of multiple big-time prospects from the region, which includes Lise Hansson of Vandersholm. He additionally helped the signing of its new Head Coach Jean-Luc Duval and 11 of top Zenician prospects into the club, with his longtime friendship with Duval since university years proving to serve a huge role in this historic achievement.
Achievements aside, he was currently on his holiday to San Salvador, where his second son and daughter-in-law resided as Royal Quebec Intelligence Service agents. With his air miles already accumulated enough in last 7 years to warranty a first class seat, he took up the opportunity and used it for the flight, all the way from Attawapiskat.
He’s located in seat 1B, which was an aisle seat right next to the left aisle. Right now, he was reading The Taegukgi, the nation’s premier Korean-language daily, and the only one that’s circulated nationwide. Today’s issue was not as interesting as what’s normally reported by the Quebec City-based newspaper, which was disappointing considering its status as the premier newspaper of the nation, quality-wise. Disappointed, he quickly switched to the sports part, where they’re talking about the Quebecois victory over Mizuyuki in a convincing score of 4-2. Intrigued about the score and Sigmund (Archer, the reporter for soccer in the very newspaper)’s recap to the game, he decided to read through the article.

On the seat right next to him sat Francis Labrie, his longtime friend who’s also a scout, but at a different Q-League franchise. Labrie was a longtime player at Montreal Impact in the 80s, before turning into a scout with the aforementioned team. He was planning to continue his scouting of potential players to bring over from San Jose Guayabal, with the expense for the first class paid by himself.
Unlike Park, he was extremely tired and decided to get about an hour of nap. He was unable to sleep on the Spiritair flight from Montreal to Sangti, due to the shaky turbulence the packed Boeing 787-8 faced overnight. By now, he was half asleep, with his eyes fully covered and heartbeat slowed.

..

Meanwhile, on the business class sat a group of 20 scientists who were on their way to an important scientific conference held in San Salvador, as well as multiple couples on their honeymoon to the famous holiday destinations in San Jose Guayabal. Lately the demands for honeymoon vacation to San Jose Guayabal were on rise, due to the nation’s diverse culture, long history and availability of high-class resorts at cheap price. Aeroquebec flights, due to its strong domestic base and connectivity, as well as cheap price of intercontinental flights, were often taken due to this reason. Most of the passengers were either in their 40s or 20s, proving that trend as well, as well as some people well in their fifties and sixties who were on for personal reasons that'll not be stated here.

On the other hand, the economy class consisted of many Barangayan and Quebecois Guayabaleses, who were on their way back home, after spending their vacation back home. They were of considerably poorer socioeconomic status than those who took the airline’s twice daily flight from Montreal or Quebec City, but still filled the plane completely.

Martine Libero was one of those passengers on board as well. A native of Lenore, TRB, she’s been working as a nanny in San Salvador, where she’s been responsible for a group of three nice, but very shy kids in a home. After visiting her parents back home, she, like many others, were on her way home, all by herself. Her kids were at a summer camp near the Guayabalese Capital, and father’s been dead for some years already in what was an unfortunate accident on a construction site back home.
At the moment, She's seated at 36I(the seating arrangement of Aeroquebec's A340-600 is 3-3-3), a window seat on the right side of the plane. Being extremely dizzy with some vomiting she had while on earlier part of the flight, she felt extremely dehydrated and dizzy. Fortunately there was no other passenger occupying the two seats right next to her, who was situated in the window seat (those 2 were the only unoccupied ones on the flight, due to those two seats being cancelled by the very father and son on Felix’s most recent RP post in Page III), so she was able to move a bit further and ask the flight attendant a bottle of water or alcohol. 2 minutes later, she got that bottle of water she needed and drank.

Now much more hydrated, she sat back in her window seat, looking at the bright sky, over 34,000 feets from sea level. She felt lot more relaxed and comfortable, despite her early ordeals. It was unable to sustain however, as the bomb implanted right under her, in the cargo section.

One Team Fanfest is now all over, and the Sir Arthur Andreas Memorial Dome is all cleaned up, and it sure was on heck of an event! Q and As with players, jersey giveaways, memorabilia auctions, special guest speeches, and of course, several fan merchandise dealers, all added to the experience.

The key speech of the day came from star forward, Dante Durant. He mentioned how blessed he was to be a part of the team and how grateful he was to the whole roster. The crowd was VERY won over by the speech, but no one was as happy as his mother who sat in the front row at the stage and cried as he recognized all of her sacrifices.

As for jersey giveaways, 20 people won SIGNED, game worn jerseys from the team, including Douglas Port FC fan, Dale Bryant.

"I got Quantavius' jersey, which is great, he had some great plays, but I've got to go try to find that girl with Durant's jersey. Sorry Quan, but Dante is the man!"

To complete the giving portion of the day, over 100 people earned all expenses paid trips to the World Cup. They will accompany the team to EVERY game during this cup, which will be a huge difference over the group of fans at the Baptism of Fire which was surprisingly small.

Director Stevens had this to say at the conclusion speech:

"It was a great tournament, it's been a great day, and as one we will make sure we have a great World Cup!"

And now, as Fanfest has come to a close, the national team is set for World Cup 69, and we couldn't be more excited here at the One Team Project. Good luck team, from all of us here at One Team.

Match Day One Preview
Estope v. Star United States
Tuesday, July 22, 2014
Inzer-Bare Stadium, Twin Brooks, Estope

Tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow! Tomorrow what? If you don't know the answer to your question - you don't have a social life because this has been all over the place! In fact, all over the multi-universe! The World Cup 69 Qualifiers start tomorrow!

The national team of Star United States already find themselves in Twin Brooks, Estope, where the first match will be played. The match will be played at the Inzer-Bare Stadium on foreign ground.

Estope is ranked number 60 in the whole world, Star United States is ranked 101. There is a 41 rank difference between the two ranks, but rank is all but a number, it all comes down to how each teams preforms during the match. Star United States and Estope have never had an encounter between each other making this upcoming match more mysterious. However, Estope has an advantage since it is played in their field - a place they are conformable with.

Estope has a rather interesting formation for the first match. 1-0-9. Yes folks, that means 1 defender and 9 strikers. Never in Starian history has the national teams faced a team with this formation. This will be an interesting match that will be played. Will one defender work well for them? I believe Estope is putting forth many hopes upon J. Sanford, their defense, and upon all their nine strikers, and no midfielders.

Key: GK - Goalkeeper; D - Defender; M - Midfielder; S - Striker

Their starting roster is: Ashton Pate (GK); Joshua Sanford (D); Sam Williams (F); Delvin Brooks (F); Jarvis Wiltner (F); Alex Stark (F); Milo Dewith (F); Matthew Stark (F); Henry Keenan (F); Travis Barria (F); Jacob Lawrence (F).

Star United States will be using a 3-4-3 format. Star United States has added new players since last World Cup, so a few changes may be spotted along the lines. The starting roster for this team is: Fernando Spark (GK); Henry Andrews (D); Santiago Solo (D), Michael River (D); Mark Barnna (M), Caleb Horas (M); Chris Soarison (M - Captian); Matthew Stafford (M); James Gasteiz (S); Felix Gonzalez (S); Fabricio Garrison (S)

Don't forget to watch this match tomorrow as the Starian teams makes it appearance once again during a World Cup Qualifier! Best of luck to all the teams playing as they put their hearts and minds on the field and for their country.

Kurt Mathias
Auburn crossed herself, and rang the doorbell.
It was a tall, broad-shouldered woman who answered, short brown locks crowning an attractive, very angular face. She looked more than a little surprised to see her. "I'm, ah, sorry... who are you?"
Auburn cracked her knuckles. Right. Time to stay on the offensive - the charm offensive. "Desdemona Killenhall, right? Should that be Dessie or Mona for short? Well! Either way. My name is Auburn C.E. Bywater. Assistant manager to the New- ahh, Nepharim national football team. Mmmight I come in?"
"Mona's fine," she said, opening the door a little warily. "Come in. What's in the satchel?"
"Ah, this?" Auburn breezily slipped the bag off onto a nearby table. "Nothing much. Just some gin. So... how, ah, are you?"
"Slow day. I work nights."
"Oh?"
"Bouncer down at some real exclusive nightclubs."
"Ah."
"What's the C.E. stand for?"
"Catherine Elsa," lied Auburn Close Enough Bywater with a practiced ease. "So, uh, down to brass tacks - is your husband around?"
Mona clicked her tongue. "The weights room. I suppose. I'll fetch him - then I have to head out. I'll be going out the back, so..."
"Yeah, right. Uh. Thanks."
Mona nodded curtly, then left. Auburn, for her part, sank down into a nearby chair, retrieving the bottle of gin. Shit... should've gotten a better brand. Ah, well - it's patriotism we want to discuss, why not go local?
It took Mathias just a couple minutes to return - lean, sweaty and freshly deodorised in one of those skintight undershirts all the high-tech kit companies were obsessed with. Not a bad look for him.
"Auburn Bywater? I'm not sure we've ever met face-to-face."
"We've not," said Auburn, rising to shake his hand. "But it's high time we did."
"... I think I know what this is about."
"I'm sure you do. Am I wasting my time here?"
Mathias blinked, taken a little aback by the bluntness. He might have the citizenship, but he's not quite Nepharim yet... Still, he recovered quick enough. "... I've had a lot to think about. Talking would help. But why didn't the manager come herself?"
"Do you feel slighted by that? With respect, this is my job, Kurt. You meet Mortlock when and if she becomes your national manager - not before."
There was an icy pause.
"Have a seat."
Auburn obliged. "So, now we know where we stand. Where'd you hear about this?"
"I thought you'd know that much," said Mathias. "The Watcher's been reporting it as gospel since I made the announcement."
Auburn clicked her tongue. "Tabloid. Still, even a stopped clock... either way, the thought hadn't escaped us. So. Any reason you wouldn't do it?"
Kurt shrugged. "Do you think I'm Nepharim just because some papers said so?"
"That's what the papers are sort of for."
Kurt snorted. "It's more than that."
"Please. You've lived in Brinemouth for years now. The accent's more than a little rubbed of on you. And that girlfriend of yours? That figure? That name? And speaking of names, well, yours fits in just fine. How quick did you start answering to just 'Kurt'? Well, I guess it was that or 'Kunt.'" Auburn leaned back and crossed her arms, smiling all the while. "Face it, mate. You've assimilated."
"You might think so. ... There's a touch of dishonesty about it, though."
"Is there." Auburn smoothly opened the gin, and took a drag straight from the bottle, before sliding it back across the table. "So tell me about it."
"We do have glasses, you know," said Kurt, a little coldly.
"Details."
"Well, what I'm wary of... I'm wary of the assumption that the decision was made selfishly. To prolong my international career, and with a stronger team."
"Yeah. People will say that. Fuck 'em."
"Easy enough for you to say. You don't have to deal with all this shit!"
"Actually, quashing that kind of bullshit is sort of my job."
Kurt blinked. "What isn't your job?"
Auburn chuckled. "You'll find out. Now. Come on. You want to prove you're truly Nepharim? Because I can only think of one way."
"... What's that?"
"Well, first - do you believe you are?"
Kurt pursed his lips. "... Yes. But it's not just about what I feel. It's how the world will see it - mercenary."
Auburn clicked her tongue, and started to forage around in her satchel. She took her time with it - making sure even Kurt was intrigued. By the time he was actively craning his neck to try and look inside, she whipped it out.
A Nepharim national team kit. Forest green and black, trimmed in white. And the name and number on the back was Mathias - 14.
"So you want to prove you're one of us?" said Auburn, breezily. "Then prove it - to the whole world, where nobody can doubt you. Prove it in the spotlight."
-------------------------------
Why did she have to try to overthink it?
Jess Mortlock prided herself as a tactician. She had an instinctive feel for the flow of the game, and the practical knowledge of how to shift it in her favour. That was, after all, how she'd become a successful manager for the national team - legendary status assured after just three years.
So it hurt to get things wrong.

Ninety minutes into the Strongnesse Trophy match. The defence had been outstanding to keep that front line out... the Vagionii, the Prince, Flaccus and Karoki. Her own front four, and Brandon ahead of them, had kept a very high line, with Coleman lurking behind in only his second cap. The goalkeeper had been given free reign to sweep for the defence, a task the reckless, quick-footed Coleman had taken well to heart. He'd done well, too, like Ballard had against Brenecia.
Nephara had quietly maintained the upper hand all game, but too many times had been denied by Seius in goal, even as he was frequently exposed by the Saintlander W-M formation, or else the heroic efforts of Aufidius covering him. And, well, Mortlock had to admit poor finishing had played its part.

Ninety minutes passed. And Mortlock had felt as though she should switch things around - try to capitalise and get a quick goal. Brandon was exhausted, and Ulrich Alsatian would offer more in attack. Marlowe was being run ragged in her role as an advanced centreback, and Blackstock came on for her. Meanwhile, in attack, Rook Cathar had been uncharacteristically ineffectual - Bittencourt, with luck, would find his feet.

It had all made sense on paper.

She'd felt vindicated, too, when Harper crossed onto Bittencourt's chest for the striker to dance past Aufidius and square low for Keith Rowland. The Holdenberg striker had been in red-hot form for his club the last two years, and it showed with a smooth, clinical finish past Seius into the bottom-left corner of the net. He'd been guilty of weak finishing earlier, too - this somewhat made up for it.

Then the cracks started to show.

Alsatian was a good box-to-box midfielder - but he wasn't nearly a match for Brandon in clamping down the midfield. The three Flaccii, displaying an innate chemistry that understandably no Nepharim could match, passed a merry triangle around Alsatian to cut him out of the defence - Brandon would've kept his eye on the big picture and covered the centrebacks. This gave Josephus Flaccus, of AFC Treason, all the room in the world to run forward and smash the ball past Coleman for the equaliser.

The second half of extra time came soon afterwards. The Nepharim pressed hard for the winner, stringing a few passes together before a knockdown put the ball on a platter for Bittencourt... but the Treason striker hesitated before shooting, tried to run at the defence and was neatly dispossessed by a flying tackle that blindsided him from the right. The ruthless Cathar wouldn't have hesitated. And soon the Saintlanders were on the attack again. A goalkick high to Flaccus, who passed to Andreas, the one-two with Karoki was neat. Blackstock should've tried to take Andreas out. Marlowe would've - probably could've gotten the ball as well, but Blackstock was a Brinemouth defender, trained to stand off attackers and not leave gaps in the defence. And it would've worked, but for Andreas skipping neatly past her and sliding the ball across for Karoki to smash the ball past Coleman.

The final whistle wasn't far off.

And, damn it all, Mortlock knew the blame rested with her. For all her tactical nous and instinct, there was that seemingly ancient saying... you had to know when to fold 'em, but more importantly, when to hold 'em.

This was, in the new days of relieved tensions, close to a friendly with a competitive edge. In the days to come, there would be no room for error.

The Red Blackiland team was flagged training, before the debut game in World Cup Qualifiers against Torisakia. On this time, all of the players were training shots/finalizations and other tricks them don't want to reveal it.The players seemed to be very excited to this game and the debut of a new experience to them and to the Red Blackiland Football. After this, they done a stretching work with excited conversations, really, the atmosphere in the training seemed to be very 'light' , without jitters.
Soon after , the Red Blackiland Coach , Peter Valbuena , give a press conference and say about the debut game : ''The players aren't nervous or anxious, but yes, excited and confident to make a good campaign in the Qualifiers and a good debut game, however,we know this isn't the necessary now.We have in other stage, against a very good and organizated team like Torisakia and we no need only willpower but yes attention and tactical discipline and the 'magic' style of our attack. We know about our limitations and we work to get better and better with the past of the days''.
Carlos Carmona, the most experienced player in the squad, give a conference too,and demonstrated inspiration. '' We know the game is hard, more hard this qualifiers. But we need to give all that we can to give a big proud to our fans and citizens, the Red Blackilandians!.We are training hard and the team gain in the last matches,a good results, and in the Baptism of Fire,i think we could go more longer than the Eight-Finals,but we have days of struggle, days of glories and day of loses,it happens,is normal. However,we believe, and let it show in the following sentence '' We are ambitious,we do our sights on the moon,if we failed,at least we stay between the stars ''
Red Blackiland Coach , Peter Valbuena ending says a little sentence ''The practice always is the better apprenticeship,so,we go to it.''

Until next time , from the Brave and Freedom land!

Final training gets underway

MOSTERHAIDEN: The national team are in their final stages of preparation for WC69 Qualification. The Semars are at home against a strong-looking Darvale side, who have players such as Phil Downing and Lena Parker. In the small city of Mosterhaiden, on the outskirts of Jansberg, the team are holding their last pre-qualification session. After that, they will have a lunch break before travelling to Jansberg where they will stay at a hotel before going to the stadium a few hours before kick-off. Many fans are lining the streets, and big screens are being set up in numerous cities, including Molsbik, Nuholm, Saint Adrensburg, Finqar, Matrolvik and Adjurgen. Some fans are already at the stadium, they are that excited. Manager Henrik Jensen is yet to confirm the starting line-up, although a likely one is known. Karlstad is expected to play in goal, with a back four of Eiriksson, Janzaard, Karbruck and Malsen; Halck and Jansen in holding midfield; Mads Olsen, Demba Cisse and Ture Skøjerhaven behind Captain & Striker Marc Lygaard.

With a strong set of substitutes too, including Tipio Runen, Martin Kristiansen & Jakob Larsen, and strong defenders such as Jakob Lunds, Matjas Nordland and veteran Magnus Nielsen, and two reliable back-up goalkeepers in Anders Sjelkords & Martin Datheim, Semarland may just qualify for the World Cup.

Zach supporters flood the stadium to witness and cheer their team as they play against Lolloh.
High hopes rest upon the UKZ's players. And all that can be seen on the faces of zach supporters sitting and waiting intently for the match to begin.
The unofficial mascot who became famous during the NS Athletic Championship is also sitting in the audience and grabbing a lot of attention to herself. Just like in Britonisea she is wearing a giant green turtle costume and in each hand holding a zach flag.
She is dancing to the music they are playing in the stadium.

Meanwhile in the dressing room...
The players sat there in their blood red jerseys. most of them silently praying except for the Goalkeeper who was trying to build confidence through failed attempts at humor. She was interrupted by tge coach as he came into the dressing room to give the team a pep-talk.
“Boys, Girls i know your are nervous. The nation expects a lot from you this time. It's okay to be nervous. Ain't nothing wrong with being a little nervous. So I'm just going to say this to you. You know you have trained well, you have trained hard. So when you go on that feild today remember all that time, all that energy and all that effort you have put in and enjoy the rewards that it bring".
The team was all pepped up and was ready to give their best for the nation on that field.

Valanora Times
Looking For Redemption

The last two years for Vanorian football have been something of a roller coaster for the national team and its fans. First was the absolutely atypical play of the squad in the qualifiers, where their usually goalscoring prowess was almost nowhere to be found. It was a concern for the squad, even as they were wracking up the wins and draws to collect the points they needed to win the group and get the easier route to the Finals. The weird playoff scenarios were navigated with a bit of worry but were still navigated by the squad and they were once more back into the Finals, looking to put the past year of struggles and poor play behind them. Surely now that the Finals were upon the, they would be able to buckle down and focus on the task at hand, to put in the vintage performances and get the squad on another deep run into the tournament and perhaps even capture the record number six title.

That however was not to be, as for the first time in all of their history, the Marauders failed to make it out of the group, with a draw to cohost Free Republics on the first matchday and a loss to Turori on the last matchday of the group proved to spell the Marauders doom. For thirty five straight cycles the Marauders had found their way into the knockout rounds, most of the time finding their way to the Quarterfinals or further. However that record and legacy now lay by the wayside, as a tortuous cycle became even worse for the squad of players. There was speculation of a whole sale cleaning out of the pool and squad, getting rid of the managers and other staff of the national team program and just starting completely anew.

However in the weeks between the Marauders falling out of the World Cup unceremoniously and the start of the AOCAF, which was just so happening to be coming to Valanora, cooler heads prevailed. Though changes were still on the lips of the VSC and VFA directors, as well as a few of the supporter groups, the only change to be had was the changing of kits. Dropping their long time Starblaydi providers in Ediraf, the side debut new kits provided by Kirola from Audioslavia in the AOCAF. Playing for a sense of pride as well as a bit of vindication, perhaps even their own jobs as well as the managers, the side steamrolled their way through the AOCAF, with fans showing their loyalty to the side despite the setback in the World Cup, filling up every single stadium for every single match, right up to the Final. It seemed appropriate playing in The Battleground in Raynor City, filled with its blue and black stadium seats that the side were donned in their new midnight black home kits, and for the very first time in their history, lifted the trophy, after besting Farfadillis in a rematch of the previous edition's Final.

Here we are a year later from that historic victory, an erie sense of calm settling over the football side of the nation, following an entertaining domestic season, where the legendary captain of the Marauders in Laborious Hawk found his way back to his home club in Hondo FC and lead them to the Premiership title. The bitter taste of the Finals still lingers in the fans mouth, watered down by the sweet nectar that the AOCAF title brought, and it seems that victory bought the side a second chance. The pool for the side remains unchanged heading into the Qualifiers and the staff has remarkably been retained, although it is highly expected that regardless of whatever result that the squad may bring, including a title, the staff will be rolled over next cycle for some fresh ideas.

However that may be the pressure lifted off the manager's shoulders to experiment with new formations, new starting line ups, and new tactics to try and get a spark going into the side. The players themselves will be looking for redemption following what happened in the Republics last summer, to restore the legacy of the Marauders, to patch up the foundation of the side, and start a new record that they and future squads will be able to craft. Perhaps last cycle's surprise defeat will be like a snake shedding off its old skin, with a new, stronger body emerging from the previous shell of life. If that be so, I feel for those sides who are in the path of the Marauders, for I have not often seen a force so intimidating as the likes of Laborious Hawk set out with a point to prove, as this Premiership season goes to show.

SPECIAL EDITION: COSUMAR DRAGONS WORLD CUP 69 PREVIEW
Roster analysis, group draw commentary, predictions, and more!

KALDUKOSIC, Cosumar - Cosumar's entire World Cup 68 cycle can be summarized in a single word: Almost. After climbing to 1st place in Group 8 halfway through Qualifying, the Dragons almost held on for a spot in the playoff. They almost avoided losing to Sameba in the crucial match of Qualifying. Their back four were almost solid enough to overcome the scoring drought in the second leg. They were denied by the slimmest of margins after drawing on the final matchday, symbolized by Ejegefe Na'Safeh's free kick that almost snuck under the crossbar in stoppage time. In the Cup of Harmony, they almost defeated Astograth in their first match - and still managed to almost advance to the knockout round.

It seems like the Fiefdom Soccer Federation and the media have been recycling the same lines for years now: "Cosumar is almost ready to compete at a world-class level again!" "The revival of our glory days in the World Cup 50s is almost upon us!".

Almost. The words tastes sour on the tip of the tongue for Dragons fans everywhere. Just how long is Cosumarite Soccer going to be stuck in this perpetual state of "Almost there?" Sure - there are many promising signs that things are on the upswing. But after a looong time of letting World Cup 68's disappointing collapse sink in...forgive me if I'm not already buying my tickets to Apox or The Holy Empire. I do believe Cosumar has a fighter's chance at qualifying, as they always do, but I recommend not getting too hyped this time (smaller expectations = less disappointment if the Dragons fail, more euphoria if they succeed!).

Anyways, though our ranking has remained static at #70 since last time, many other things have changed since World Cup 68. It's a new year, a new team, and there will be new challenges. With Matchday 1 right around the corner, several key events took place this week that will shed some light on Cosumar's Qualifying journey. These things will help determine if Cosumar will finally snap the cycle or if it will succumb to the almosts yet again. Let me break them down for you.

#1 - Farris Crowley unveils final roster selections, starting XI

At a press conference in Kaldukosic, Cosumar on Thursday, longtime manager Farris Crowley confirmed the list of players who made the final cut to represent Cosumar in World Cup 69. He also was able to provide us with his Starting XI for Matchday 1. The full squad is in alphabetical order by position below, with starters bolded:

Goalkeepers: Tomi Koskinen (Ramusok United), Blinne Va'Tauras (Klyde FC)

Defenders: Abdiel Assad (Eastweald), Jukka Lindroos (Centus Serpents), Tae Woo Miyori (Klyde FC), Kirum Mortonsson (Ramusok United), Jon-Perohlin Nodtveit (OAS Royal FC), Endyl Paru (Eastweald), Alexander Pearce (OAS Royal FC), Sheldon Serra (Ramusok Capital University)

Midfielders: Giovanni Aldinne (Real Azuris), Anders Engström (Mallox FC), Dean Harold McSaunders (Kaldukosic FC), Vareza Na'Noni (FC Samotath), Eido Noldor (Pelethas United), Ole Öhman (Treftadaeth Alliance), Paaron Petrov (Fevelo United), Francois Renault (Cassandra City), Thomas Teverridge (Samaj FC)

Forwards: Sur Arora (OAS Royal FC) (C), Ejegefe Na'Safeh (Na'Malsille Mariners), Sergio Vilar (Olask Islanders)

This lineup indicates that Crowley has placed a priority on experience and continuity. Seven of the eleven starters from World Cup 68 will resume their starting duties. Only one starter (Na'Noni) has never played in a World Cup before. Aging but still effective veterans like Alexander Pearce and Francois Renault have been called in despite a plethora of younger, flashier options available. Alas, the average age of the twenty-two roster entries is 28.1 years. This makes Cosumar likely to be one of the oldest squads in the tournament.

I have mixed (but mostly negative) feelings about this. Everyone should appreciate what guys like Pearce, Paru, Teverridge, Renault and Aldinne have done for re-establishing Cosumarite soccer over the years. That core of talent helped make Cosumar relevant again in World Cups 66/67 and they're still big names domestically. However, they're all 32+ years old now. If that generation couldn't get it done in their prime, why does Crowley think their old legs can carry us to a World Cup now? Granted, only Renault is still a starter, but I'm not convinced that we needed to use so many roster spaces on The Old Guard (AKA "veteran leadership") when there is so much exciting young talent in Cosumar we should've been tapping.

Hell, Endyl Paru turns 36 during this World Cup. Does anyone honestly believe Endyl Paru is the same player he was eight years ago? Does anyone honestly believe he is still more useful than snubbed young talents like Jonathan Stuttgart or Henrik Söder? But who cares about his performance. He's a big name and a recognizable face - sure to boost TV ratings. I don't mean to be too harsh on Endyl. He was a great defender. But that's the key word: was.
Pearce and Renault would've sufficed for the "grizzled mid-30s leader" role if it's really necessary - they can still compete. But Aldinne, Teverridge and Paru are shadows of their former selves. They helped start a Renaissance in Cosumarite soccer. The real way to honor their accomplishments would've been to take advantage of more of the budding homegrown talent they helped spawn.

That said, this dearth of young depth shouldn't be too much of a problem unless the Dragons are hit by the injury plague, which they miraculously avoided during the World Cup 68 campaign. As much I've criticized the inclusion of so many older players in the substitute pool, I think our starting XI is one that can put up a fight against the best of teams and perhaps even dominate some mid-to-low tier teams.

In the image of Cosumar's two most successful clubs – Mallox and OAS Royal FC – this Cosumarite squad will press the ball exceptionally well and play a high octane yet precise attacking style of football. When the Dragons are on point, it is great to watch and hugely difficult for most opponents to stifle, as we were all witness to in the first half of WC68 Qualifying, when Cosumar scored the 2nd most goals in the entire field behind only Pasarga.

Key Men? FW Sur Arora and GK Tomi Koskinen. The goal scorer and the goal stopper. Sur Arora was an absolute terror around the goal in WC68 Qualifying, averaging over 1 goal per game - but he has gotten even better since then. He is currently in the apex of his prime - he will never be better than he is right now. You have to score goals to win games. With a healthy Sur Arora on the field alongside excellent set-up men (and goal-scorers in their own right) MF Paaron Petrov and MF/FW Anders Engström, it's hard to envision a goal-scoring drought like the one Cosumar experienced in the second leg of WC68 Qualifying. On the other side of the field, Koskinen is a rock in front of the goal. As consistent as they come. He has saved the Dragons' hide with miraculous saves more times than I can recall.

What about weaknesses, you ask? RB Tae Woo Miyori is crucial on the right side, as he will play basically goal to goal and have a huge role in taking and maintaining possession. Due to his speed and unique skill set Miyori has no true replacement, but he is coming off a nagging achilles injury. He is certain to start, but if he is hindered at all by his injury Cosumar could encounter difficulties. Furthermore, besides Miyori, none of Cosumar's back four (or DMF McSaunders) have great speed. Supremely athletic attackers could expose them.

Any surprise selections? DF/MF Sheldon Serra (19). This young Ramusok Capital University alum was seen as a long shot to make the final squad. He has never played professional football or competed internationally at the top level. He shined in Cosumar's collegiate league last season, however, and reportedly impressed the entire Cosumarite management and coaching staff a great deal. He will be looking to sign on with his first club team after this World Cup, so scouts from all around the world should have their eye on him if he makes any appearances on the pitch (OOC: TG me with club offers if interested in Serra).

#2 - Pre-Qual Friendly with Star United States results in draw, hints at formation shift

The newly announced squad of 22 traveled to Woodbed City, Star United States earlier this week for their first and only Pre-Qual Friendly of the WC69 Cycle. The fans and game-time atmosphere at Sunrise Stadium was exquisite, and should serve to fully acclimate the Cosumarites to the World Cup stage. As a glorified warm-up, most Dragons players were given significant playing time in this match. Both teams played surprisingly well and very cleanly for a first match. In the end, Cosumar settled for a 3-3 draw with their 101st ranked hosts. It was a mutually agreeable result, as neither side was eager to begin their campaign with a loss and there were plenty of confidence-boosting goals to go around.

The Dragons got off to a great start, with defender Tae Woo Miyori easily heading in a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute. Cosumar seemed in control for much of the first half, with an easy victory apparently in store. However, they failed to capitalize on their disproportionate possession despite many great chances. Star United States equalized out of nowhere late in the first half when one of their players collected a pass in the box and buried it in the bottom right corner. From there on, the hosts seemed much more confident, no longer pinned back by their Atlantian Oceanian opponents.

Five minutes after half time, a quick counter-attack saw a Star United States forward tear past defenders and rip an unstoppable ball past Koskinen into the top of the net to take the 2-1 lead. With 25 minutes left, Star United States shocked the Dragons again by heading in a corner to take a 3-1 lead. The Dragons had been playing great football in the second half, but just couldn't convert their chances, and were now staring at a disheartening two-goal deficit despite their efforts. In a friendly, it would have been easy to call it quits, but Cosumar showed great resolve and were clearly determined to get back into the match. Just five minutes later, Cosumar answered when Sur Arora sliced through a fatigued defense before slipping the ball through to Anders Engström, who easily converted. Since he had squandered so many previous chances throughout the game, it was a promising sign to finally see Engström snag one.

As Star United States looked more and more fatigued deep into the second half, Cosumar began to take over the game again and launched a barrage of chances. Eventually, one found the back of the net in the 88th minute. Paaron Petrov headed a beautiful cross into the post, but Francois Renault was able to collect the rebound and chip it in over the sprawled-out goalkeeper. Both sides had heart-stopping near misses in stoppage time, but a 3-3 draw was destined.

Cosumar - 3
Goals: 2' (Miyori), 70' (Engström), 88' (Renault)
Star United States - 3
Goals: 37', 50', 65'

Perhaps more interesting than the match itself was the potential strategic changes Farris Crowley implemented. Crowley has always been known to prefer a 4-2-4. That is the formation Cosumar has employed for as long as I've been alive. Yet, in the Star United States friendly, Crowley shifted his personnel into an entirely new formation that seemed to resemble a 4-2-3-1. Though not too far removed from the traditional Dragons 4-2-4, it was still a bizarre sight for fans who have long been accustomed to Cosumar maintaining the same approach.

It's also a sign that Crowley is starting to hear some of the murmurings about his job security. In the decades he's been Manager, I've never known the man to compromise any aspect of his life or his career to popular demand or consensus. But his 4-2-4 was heavily criticized after World Cup 68 for not suiting his roster well and being outdated. It struggled to win possession and keep it consistently. I personally welcome the change. The 4-2-3-1 fits our personnel attributes better and will allow us to feature more of an emphasis on surgically-precise passing and technical possession football.

Crowley may have led a resurgence in Cosumarite football and restored our international credibility, but the voices insisting he finally win something with this marvelous crop of footballers are getting louder. This uncharacteristic compromise is a sign he's willing to do whatever it takes to deliver Cosumar a performance to be proud of. Hopefully the remarkable comeback against Star United States is just the beginning.

#3 - Group Draw places Cosumar with The Archregimancy, Glaser in Group 12

The Archregimancy. Airella. Karditan. Hicana. Glaser. Absurdly Polite Gentlemen. Vangaziland. Learn these names, for they are the nations standing between Cosumar and its first World Cup qualification since World Cup 62. As per usual, the Dragons will square off against each of these sides twice, once at home and once away. After the double round robin, only the two with the most points will have the chance to advance. The remaining six will be eliminated. High-performing group winners immediately qualify, with other group winners and all runner-ups competing in a single make-or-break playoff match - with a World Cup berth at stake.

Finishing with one of the Top 12 point tallies is not a realistic expectation for the Dragons, so if we do get out of Group 12 it will likely come down to a fateful playoff match. And folks, that's a big 'if'. As the third-highest ranked team in the group, Cosumar will have to pull off some upsets to sneak into the Top 2. Anyways, here's a brief preview of each team in Group 12.

The Archregimancy (16) - These Orthodox monks from the mysterious Dreamed Realm are the highest ranked squad in Group 12 and the clear favorites to top the table. They are the defending Cup of Harmony Champions (despite refusing the title and desecrating the trophy) and play great team football, a trait that will be amplified by their squad remaining completely unchanged since WC68. There is some history between Cosumar and The Archregimancy, as the two sides were in the same group in the World Cup 54 Finals. The Monks defeated the Dragons 3-2 in the final game to prevent us from reaching our first Round of 16. Some lingering negative feelings clearly remain, with many in Cosumar (a highly atheistic country) expressing disdain about having to travel to an alternate reality controlled by a primitive cult known for its unrelenting resentment towards women and "heretics". Hopefully The Beautiful Game will quell any political differences between the two sides. Though Cosumar may have a free society centuries ahead of The Archregimancy's, our football team will have to work hard to keep up with the likes of Fr. Manuel the Commanding and Fr. John the Clairvoyant.

Airella (308) - The Kingdom of Airella is a small nation, new to international football. They placed 6th out of 7 teams with a record of 1-3-2 in the most recent Baptism of Fire in San Jose Guayabal. Not much else is known about them. Should be an easy six points for the Dragons.

Karditan (94) - The Karditan Blue Barons have gradually made a name for themselves in the World Cup scene, as this is their eleventh tourney. Their team has seen some improvement since World Cup 66, when the sport was finally made legal. They are also notable for, like Cosumar, being a mixed species team. They do not have the same level of talent as Cosumar (besides maybe Xi Mørátüabáterían, who has some Farf blood), but they fight hard and have a tradition of iron-solid defense. If the Dragons don't take the Blue Barons seriously, the could get burned.

Hicana (140) - Hicana is something of an X Factor in this Group. No one really knows what to expect of them. They have the potential to pose a challenge to the likes of Karditan, Cosumar and Glaser but could just as easily be another cupcake team. The Hicanans made their debut in World Cup 67 and finished dead last in Group 1. However, they showed intriguing improvement in the last World Cup, rocketing up to 2nd in Qualifying early on but finishing 5th. Scouting reports from Hicana's recent appearances describe a faster and stronger squad with outstanding endurance, but it's unclear if this physical improvement will translate to better football. Interesting factoid: this is Hicana and Karditan's second consecutive World Cup in the same qualifying group.

Glaser (54) - The second-highest ranked team in Group 12, Glaser is relatively new to international football but has rapidly established itself as a contender. They debuted in World Cup 67, finishing 7th of 9 in their Group. But in the last World Cup, Glaser shocked the world by winning their qualification group, the first to do so from such a low ranking in quite some time. They also produced wins over the likes of Eura and The Royal Kingdom of Quebec to advance to the Final 32, but didn't make it out of their Group. Still, it was quite the impressive run for a new squad and they were rightfully rewarded in the rankings. Glaser is no longer a Cinderella and they are sure to be hungry to prove World Cup 68 wasn't a fluke. They have a good team, but I wouldn't call them great yet. There are murmurings around the international community that the Glaser won't be as potent this year for a variety of reasons off the pitch. I see both Cosumar-Glaser matches being tight contests. Ultimately, it will likely come down to those two matches to determine who will advance out of the group alongside The Archregimancy. Dragons fans should be rooting against Glaser just as hard as they are rooting for Cosumar.

Absurdly Polite Gentlemen (201) - Like Airella, a nation brand new to the world of international football. Fresh like a box of Krispy Kremes. However, these dapper noobs show some promise. Indeed, this team of dandy blokes danced all the way to 3rd place in the Baptism of Fire, and received commendation for their impeccable behavior from the Schiavone Football Federation! I personally think the whole "polite" gimmick is a charade to get opponents to let their guard down. They're probably not experienced enough yet to do any real damage, but the Dragons still need to give APG their A-game no matter how many times they compliment our hair.

Vangaziland (337) - The lowest ranked team in the Group. These newcomers managed only 3 points in the Baptism of Fire. It will likely be a battle between them and Airella for last place. However, I give Vangaziland the edge for 7th because I adore their flag. That, and they actually have a legitimately talented goalkeeper in Trevor Domlinson. They also have a deep enough bench to keep fresh legs on the field. They might actually be a little better than their ranking suggests. Maybe.

Though there are some talented sides in Group 12, it seems to be a slightly more appealing placement than Cosumar's Group 8 from the last World Cup. Just by virtue of that accursed Sameba squad not being there, it seems better. Not to mention the Dragons finally escaped Boring Paradise, who had been following us from Group to Group like stalkers for the past several World Cups. The Archregimancy is surely a lock for 1st, but I think it's a pretty open race for 2nd between Glaser, Cosumar and Karditan. It would not surprise me to see any of those three teams snag the playoff spot.

Here's how I see Group 12 shaping up:
1. The Archregimancy
2. Cosumar
----------
3. Karditan
4. Glaser
5. Hicana
6. Absurdly Polite Gentlemen
7. Vangaziland
8. Airella

Glaser in 4th! Bold, I know. Maybe once I see them play a bit more I'll change my mind, but as of now I think they are a bit overrated and might not live up to their ranking. Cosumar and Karditan will rush to fill the vacuum, but Cosumar is a notch above the Blue Barons in terms of talent (especially in mounting an attack), so I see us edging into second by a slim margin. I don't think there will be very many points separating #2, #3 and #4 at all. The first two matchdays (against The Archregimancy and Glaser, ouch) will be a monumental indicator of how this World Cup will go for us.
