Short backstory: Frieza is one of the descendants of Chilled, the first emperor of the multi-galactic Planet Trade Organization, a pirate empire who conquer planets and sell them to the greatest bidder. Chilled was killed by a Super Saiyan when attacking Plant, and thus the legend of a Super Saiyan descended through the family line. During Frieza's rule, the PTO allied with a race called the Saiyans, who bear a striking resemblance to the so-called Super Saiyan.
The Saiyans were a great addition to the army, but there was one thing. They constantly grew in power, and Frieza was getting scared of the possibility of a new Super Saiyan emerging. Wanting to eliminate the threat, Frieza blew up the Saiyan homeworld, Planet Vegeta.
More than 20 years later, Frieza and his elite forces arrived on Planet Namek, in the search of Dragon Balls, who are said to grant any wish. Frieza planned to wish himself immortality. Th forces started collecting Dragon Balls, but there was a major problem. Competitors for the wish arrived to the planet - Earthlings Krillin and Gohan, and the Saiyan Vegeta. One by one, all of his soldiers were destroyed.
Frieza was forced to call the Ginyu Force, a group of deadly mercenaries, to get rid of the threat. Though it was looking good, the soldiers were destroyed after a new Saiyan, Son Goku, arrived. Frieza was forced to destroy the opposition himself. The Earthlings had already summoned the Dragon and wished back Piccolo. Frieza was mad. He lost his wish, his army, everything.
Even though the Earthlings were no match for Frieza's power, they managed to hold their own until Goku arrived.
Goku and Frieza fought in a one on one battle. Though Goky always had some trich under his sleeve, like the Kaioken, Frieza was starting to come out victorious. Desperate, Goku used the Spirit Bomb to defeat Frieza, but he miraculously survived. Right in front of his eyes, Frieza killed Piccolo and Krillin. Filled with anger, Goku transformed into a Super Saiyan.
The Super Saiyan was too much for Frieza, and he was completely destroyed, even in full power. The space tyrant was sent to Hell, where he started dominating everyhing until Cell arrived. The two quickly became friends and started training for their escape from Hell.
Weaknesses(Physical weaknesses are for more powerful characters.): Lacks powerful energy beam attacks. Is quite overconfident and cocky. Full power drains him very quickly. Lacks energy training.
