The Imperial Credit is essentially cash-less and exists only in electronic records. It otherwise functions the same way as any national currency. All amounts in the currency are represented as fixed-point binary unsigned numbers; the smallest amount is 2^-64 IC and the theoretical maximum is just under 2^64 IC.
However, though the government does not print official notes or other bearer instruments, the banks sell them in the form of chips. A chip is basically a tamper-proof access token for a single fixed bank account which is created when the chip is sold, and dissolved when the chip is deposited to a real account. In the meantime, a chip may change hands many times.
