Paint it Orange
The Dutch lead The South Pacific to a Rousing Start, While England left in Doubt
COMMENTARY | TRR STAFF

(Left: Unibot is grilled by the press gallery; Right: The Netherlands challenges Spain.)

The South Pacific celebrate their first win of the World Cup and what a victory! The Netherlands soars to victory with a spectacular 5-1 against Spain. The win comes as sweet revenge with Spain having defeated the Dutch during last World Cup’s finals.

The win played out on The South Pacific’s Regional Message Board as members cheered and applauded each goal, waving their orange banners with pride.

Kringalia, The South Pacific’s delegate told The Rejected Times that he was confident that this was the start of good things to come from The Netherlands.

“It was really exciting to win by that margin,” says Kringalia, Delegate of The South Pacific, “especially against the one team that we lost to in the last World Cup final. I'm sure that we'll see another awesome victory from the Netherlands in next week's match”.

The Rejected Realms didn’t fare as well unfortunately, with the English struggling to keep up with Italy on their first match of the tournament. Ultimately however, the match, 2-1 for Italy, showed a better performance from England than had been anticipated by many commentators, amateur and professional.

Unibot, the Delegate of The Rejected Realms was swarmed by the press gallery after the match.

“Listen – playing Italy is playing Italy,” says Unibot, glancing at a shopping list of sports clichés, “You win some, you lose some. It was always going to be a hard match. What’s key here is if the boys play like they did here, at the end of the day, Uruguay and Costa Rica better prepared ‘em selves for a helluva game”.

When questioned by the press whether he had the qualifications to lead the English’s Press Relations, Unibot defended his record, citing his years as a defender as experience of “selling big expectations, occasionally winning but often disappointing everyone”.

“Remember ITALIA? REMEMBER!?” says Unibot, glowing red in the face.

The Rejected Realms face their next match against Uruguay on June 19th. Tomorrow, however, all eyes will be on Lazarus and their team. With Lazarus’s elections closing tomorrow, one has to wonder whether Election Day and a new Chairman will bring their team some good luck. Germany faces off against Portugal at Noon EDT at Fonte Nova Arena.

That said, I'm not trying to paint pseudonazism as innocent. I've said before and I'll say again, I don't understand it as a concept at all. However, I do not believe that in-game military aggression will do any good, and, for reasons outlined in my post, I would argue that we stand the danger of doing harm with excessive wars.

The last thing I'd do is give the mods more power (if that's possible) than they already have.

We stand in danger if we don't fight against it, as well.

Take a look at the Nazi regions I posted on the 'liberate hell' thread. If you think such people can be sweet talked, then do it. Let's see how it turns out.

I don't think you're reading what I'm saying.

The game rules currently ban hate speech. Of course, there are measures and degrees, but if you find a region that genuinely supports racist attacks, genocide, and other things, then as far as I understand this is not allowes in the game. Game moderators have the power to delete offending RMB posts, nations and regions. If you see hate speech in this game, report it, so that it can be dealt with effectively. Remember, there's nothing you or I can do to permanently delete RMB posts or nations, and while we are able to destroy regions we cannot prevent them from popping up again with a different name. This is the most effective response to Nazism in NationStates - use it!

Additionally, we aren't talking about sweet-talking here. So far I have continually asserted that the best method of dealing with pseudo-Nazi regions is to simply ignore them.

I personally consider Mein Kampf to be hate speech, but I had a moderator tell me, following a GHR, that if they banned links to Mein Kampf that they'd also have to ban links to "every major religious text ever written" because every major religious text ever written is somehow as offensive as Hitler's despicable manifesto.

I understand. You don't understand my unwillingness to give the mods additional power. I'm against mod intervention. So why would I run to them?

The people of NS can handle their own squabbles. That's why there's SC, founders etc. We work together to stomp out hate propaganda (you obviously didn't visit the regions I mentioned). There's no reason for us to rely on the same moderation that deletes invaluable people within antifa or the anti-fascist cause through out NS.

Again, pseudo nazis have no qualms in siding with RL racists and their hateful propaganda, to meet their gameplay desires.

Lazarus Elects Funkadelia as New Chairman
COMMENTARY | UNIBOT

Image
“The Rejected Times runs out of stock photos of Chinese elections…”

Another term ended, another Chairman elected. Lazarus has gone the polls and chosen to elect Funkadelia as its newest Chairman. Funkadelia was a favourite among the smorgasbord of candidates during the race – last week, The Rejected Times’s Election Fever panel of commentators also named Funkadelia as the frontrunner. He has most recently served as Kazmr’s Vice Chairman and took the initiative to communicate with foreign leaders in Kazmr’s absence.

While Funkadelia arguably stands as the candidate with the most similar views as Kazmr, Milograd on Election Fever noted that every Chairman brings their own legacy to the position to help redefine the region. Milograd brought a communist culture to Lazarus, Kazmr brought his savvy and colorful media to Lazarus, like Mao Zedong’s teachings or Deng Xiaoping thought, all eyes are on what new doctrine ... on what new way forward that Funkadelia will pursue in the Sister Sinker.

“I am very excited to be elected as the Chairman of the People's Republic of Lazarus,” Funkadelia tells The Rejected Times, “This is an office that I hold with high regard, and I am humbled to be given the honor to serve Lazarus in this capacity”.

When asked what his immediate plans were for Lazarus, the focus was clear.

“I plan on simply increasing activity,” says Funkadelia, “With the inactivity of Comrade Kazmr, Lazarus remained more inactive than I would like to see it be, so I plan on turning that trend around”.

The new leader only found out he had won at the top of the wolf’s hour, thus the appointment of his Vice Chairman has yet to have been decided, however his other appointments favoured some of the region’s most beloved newer and older members.

“I have already appointed Ikania as the new Governor of the Information district,” says Funkadelia, “and he will be running the Lazarene Gazette. I also appointed Fantome as the new Governor of the Judicial District. I am confident in his abilities as he served Lazarus well during his time as Chief of Police. Overall, I am very pleased with the prospects of this new government, and I plan on having Lazarus returned to the levels of activity we have seen in the months following the founding of the People's Republic of Lazarus”.

Lazarus appears to be in safe hands and sailing towards greater heights, but one question… the most important question of all remains: how did he plan to be watching the match tomorrow?

Funkadelia laughed, telling The Rejected Times that he hoped the election translated into a successful game for their World Cup pick, Germany, for their match tomorrow against Portugal.

“Auf geht's, Deutschland!” he says proudly.

It would be easier just to incorporate a "Grief Region" button, so you wouldn't even need to make the effort to do the actual raiding. Players could just bounce from region to region and destroy everyone else's efforts at will, without even bothering about WA status. Wouldn't that be nice. -Frisbeeteria

This is not "a diplomatic tit for tat," or a diplomatic anything for that matter. This is a response to a newspaper article.
