"... there is a credible threat to Nellies visiting the Vanorian region after Watford authorities looked into procuring cans of RAID for the upcoming AOCAF tournament. A special committee has been convened to determine an appropriate retort to these remarks. One of the early recommendations is an early, forced vacation for all members of AFLAC to the region known as 'Great Watford', but there are likely to be diplomatic repercussions for sending paramilitary units into another the guise of a 'forced vacation'. Not sure how many people would believe it."

The Supreme Leader looked a bit weird after that conversation. "And I'm sure no one decided to appeal to the Vanorian authorities, to try banning cans of RAID from the place in the first place? I mean, wouldn't it be some violation of nature trust if elves allowed some haphazard idiot to spray buy spray on their country's territory?"

The Duck shrugged his shoulders. "I'm sure the elves would be happy if Nellies were nuked with some can of RAID. In fact, they're probably planning to stockpile a bunch of RAID and selling it."

"I think that's against AOCAF by-rules."

One of the legal experts interjected, "Actually, it's by-rule E6.0.1 - the host country shall provide cans of RAID to all participating teams to combat sentient arthropods during play."

An awkward pause followed that announcement. The Supreme Leader glanced over at the legal experts. "Are you sure it says 'shall'? Maybe you're missing a 'not' somewhere in there??"

The legal expected reviewed the by-rule and nodded. "Nope. It's 'shall'. In fact, according to precedence, the host must provide the cans of RAID pro bono publico."

"What?!? That's outrageous!"

The Duck seemed undeterred. "Shall we attack AOCAF instead?"

"No. We're going to find a diplomatic solution to this problem. We are not going to attack anyone."

The Duck nodded. "Well, can't we at least send AFLAC on a forced vacation to AOCAF?"

"NO!"

Tuesday morning arrived quickly for Robert, Monday having slipped through peacefully in his bed. A well-deserved day off, he figured, the World Cup final having been just the night before on the other side of town. In fact, other than an afternoon debrief with other key parts of the hosting team, the Federation President had nothing else on his plate for the week. He’d already booked a cabin in the woods near the Cliffs of Java, a remote part of the country with next to no phone reception, and a general sense of peace. He smiled, as his commute came to an end at the Soccer House, and he pulled his car into his reserved space. After the last two years of preparation and execution, a week away was just what he needed, to the point that he could already smell the pines.

But first, the National Team debrief, scheduled with the coaching staff, and likely entailing just the manager himself, Stan Thate. It had become a normal end-of-cycle tradition for Percival, and he enjoyed doing it, even if it meant a lot of follow-up work for him, much like the one two years ago. He silently thanked the fates for not putting him in that situation again, as clearly someone who takes his team to the quarterfinals for the first time in history is not someone he plans to send away.

Which is precisely why his jaw dropped when Stan Thate, after shaking hands with his colleague, wasted no time in saying what he had to say.

“Look, Robbie, my time is done. I’m out.”

Robert had, in the course of his preparation, crafted a litany of responses to this line of questioning. He was prepared to point out that the team was going strong, and that there was more to fight for, to build on after such a strong finish at home; that the team had the confidence needed to succeed not only in the upcoming AOCAF, but also as qualification came around once again; simply put, his team needed him, his Federation needed him, and his country needed him to answer the call once again, and lead us to glory.

He rose, and as he went to speak, a lump formed in his throat.

“You deserve to go out on top, Stan”, he said, barely believing the words out of his mouth as he extended a hand to the retiring manager. “Only one question for you: do you have any thoughts about a successor?”

Stan paused for a moment. “Not particularly. But if I had to pick, I’d say you should pick a winner.”

As Stan parted, Robert mulled. A winner? Of course we want someone who is going to win!

Or, was he trying to tell me something specific?

He stepped out of his office and into the lobby, where a small trophy case stood, displaying the Cup of Harmony - won over a decade ago – and the slightly more recently-gained Jeremy Jaffacake Jamboree trophy, one of only two in existence, and the only one that didn’t reside permanently in Audioslavia. Next to it, on display after being returned by the defending champs – the two-time defending champs, he corrected himself – as they embark on their first LigAnaia season.

He paused, turning back to the shield, and pondered for a moment more.

“If a winner is what we want,” he said to the glass case, “then a winner is what we need to get.”
Host/Co-Host of many World Cup-associated things, mostly long ago. A couple of small wins as well, which is nice.

The Roster for AOCAF 44

About Legalese

Legalese is a gargantuan, cultured nation in the hallowed Northeast
of Atlantian Oceania. Spanning two landmasses: the mainland, on
the eastern side of the Calanian continent, fitting inhabitants between
Lake Bekk on the west, the Nemyan Strait and Calanian Sound on the
east, Starblaydia to the north, and New West Guiana to the south; and
the more recently inhabited Karin Islands, a temperate-zoned landmass
(and smaller included barrier island) opposite the strait from the mother
country. For nearly three centuries since the first true organization of the
Legalites, the People of Legalese have spent the majority of their history
in the shadow of their neighbors, including two periods of occupation by
Starblaydia, the latter during the troubled times of Operation Galactica.
Having rebuilt and colonized in the near-century since, they no longer just
seek their own survival, but a place in the international community. As the
hosts of World Cup 68, the nation shined as a proud and gracious host, and
the National Team came alive, reaching the World Cup Quarterfinal for their
first knockout appearance ever in a World Cup. However, AOCAF glory has
long eluded them, the best performance so far being a third-placed finish in
the fifth edition.

The Team:
Players are listed by their shirt number, followed by name, age,
and club affiliation.

Keepers:
1 - Evan Swales, 30, Tyrellia Titans. Sometimes, it takes
playing for a champion to get you noticed. Swales, a Tyrellian
by birth, has played for his home club for seven seasons now,
the last five as the primary netminder, where he has been, in the
eyes of many, one of the keys to the Titans’ consecutive league
titles. His first appearances came in the backup role during
qualifying for World Cup 67, before being tapped as the starter
for the AOCAF.

23 - Morrissey Beaudine, 23, Oker United. Beaudine, a native
of Francopolis, was lured out west by promises of a consistent
spot in the eighteen for the M-League side, not seeing the same
prospects with his prospective league side, Argyle Warriors.
His work with the Okerson side has turned out surprisingly well
for him, getting the nod for all twenty-six league matches, as well
as being named the starter for four of the five matches the
National Team played in AOCAF 42.

Defense:

2 - Benson Black, 30, Knights of Tiberia. A poor run of form
doomed the Knights in National League play, but nobody
seems to attribute it to Ben Black, whose play on the outer
defense was aggressive at times - he suffered one direct red,
a red off of a double-yellow, and two other yellow cards in
league play - but is widely credited with keeping the Tiberian
side from falling back to the M-League.

3 - Gnaeus Shoobridge, 22, Comunas Cougars

4 - Kenny Stroud, 31, International of Tyrellia. A mainlander
by birth, Stroud moved to the islands in his early teens with
his mother. Having played a little recreationally, he was
convinced by a friend to try out for the youth club based in
the highlands, International. He’s been a key part of the club
since, in addition to spending the previous few cycles on the
National Team.

5 - Jeff Donaldson, 25, Turoki Tide. (Vilitian Stellar Division)
Donaldson, formerly of Myre Town, picked a good season
to make the move abroad, joining the Vilitian League side
Turoki Tide. In 36 games for the Tide, he provided a solid
presence on the back line for the Tide, who would earn a
UICA place, while his old club went down to the M-League.
It is hoped that his international experience will help him
take a more permanent spot on the NT side, having made
three appearances and two starts in the previous cycle.

19 - Gruffudd Masters, 22, Comunas Cougars.
Collectively, the central back duo of Shoobridge
and Masters, aka. “Gruff and Ready”, have had
mounds of praise heaped upon them for their league
work - the Cougars were the team with the fewest
goals allowed all season - and their continuing work in
Audioslavia for AOCAF 42. The naming of Shoobridge to
the Eleven without Masters is, simply put, a surprise.

21 - Eudav Kaszinski, 25, Bekknia FC - also an alum
from the AOCAF 42 squad, Kaszinski managed as
the left wing-back for the Sagdineo side, turning in a
finish that, while mid-table, was a bit higher than
expected.

Midfield:

6 - Cade Zorich, 25, Portsmouth United

7 - Cyrus Damhan, 30, International of Tyrellia.
Born in Erodoeth, discovered by International. Team
Captain by age 22, and national teamer at around the
same time. There’s a reason the quiet, hard-working
son of a teamster and a server is on the back of the
model kits. He’s at his peak, though, so now’s his time
to shine.

8 - Slade Brahm, 30, Draig Goch FC. Slade’s career
has developed alongside Cyrus’s, only on the opposite
side of the strait. Known for solid, consistent, but not
flashy play, he has been the reliable outside midfielder,
driving the Red Dragons to snag the Federation Open
Cup, finish third in the National League, and ride the
wave into UICA competition, fighting for a Globe Cup
place in the group stage.

10 - Chance Cloman, 23, Straitside FC.

16 – Ty Henderson, 34, Tiberian City
17 – Blake Carter, 26, Francis City

Up Front:

11 - Xavier Boyle, 31, (Vilitian Stellar Division)
For Xavier, the club turmoil continues, as he left Milona-Lpaka
for his fifth club in barely more than five years. That said, he
is the side’s most experienced striker. His proficiency up
top will be the difference on an attack-minded side.

9 - Quintus Oxboro - 21, Tyrellia Titans. Quintus, a native of the
Bekknian city of Morven, moved to Tyrellia with his family in his early
teens, and immediately demonstrated some talent on the pitch,
leading to the Titans offering him a place in their youth program,
and as the leagues went professional, a place on their senior side.
A breakthrough performance in the recent league season, including
a number of key goals down the stretch, helped him earn a spot on
the AOCAF roster, which in turn led to his nomination as Boyle’s new
primary striking partner. While he faltered at times, going six matches
without a goal in the tail end of qualifiers, Quintus remains the choice.

12 - Titus Leopoldo, 25, Draig Goch FC
13 - Jake Detzler, 22, Comunas Cougars

Manager: Ben Gammel. Gammel, in his mid-thirties, is the first hire
from outside the NT ranks for the Federation since Gabe Cushing - a
hire that went pretty well. Ben joins the National Team from the small
port city of Comunas, located on the Island in Norris County, where he
led the Comunas Cougars on a surprising run in four seasons of play.
In those four seasons, they won the Federation Open Cup twice, finished
second in the National League in all three times it existed, and in two of
those three years, managed to reach the National Championship final,
winning the Golden Shield both times, sending them to the
Champions Cup qualifying stage. Despite being a weakly-financed community-
owned organization, he's managed to do one thing that has been key to
the Cougars becoming one of the nation's elite: win. Now it's his task
to do the same for a nation hopeful to build off of their recent success.

Coach: Liam Todd. Todd, a long veteran of the NT side, has the
benefit of over a decade of national team play, as well as a cycle
as the player-coach to Thate. With twelve international goals to
his name, and countless others prevented, it came of little surprise
that he’d be tapped as he hits his late thirties, and trades in a playing
career with a coaching tenure. In fact, one could say that his path
is the typical breeding ground for the NT staff.

The Eleven:
Image

Notes:
-While the usual eleven is listed above, any and all substitutions
are perfectly acceptable with a complementary player on the
roster, especially should it work better for your RP.
-Regarding style modifiers: the Legalese NT shall play
with a near-Takilan +4.
-As for RP permissions: should my opponent RP first, I grant
them the exact same permissions for which they grant their
opponents in their accompanying roster post for this competition,
though ask that I be notified and consulted if you wish to cause
the death and/or career-ending injury to any Legalite mentioned
in this roster post. If you have not posted a roster for this
competition, then you shall not be permitted a damn thing.[/box]

context

"Oi!" yelled the foreman, glaring into the window of the break room, where all fifty of the ibex that were supposed to be working on building the massive airship outside had managed to cram themselves in. "What the hell are you all doing?"

"Shush!" replied the worker who was pinned against the window, "we're trying to listen to the AOCAF group draw."

The foreman put a hoof to his forehead and sighed, "I knew putting a radio in there was a bad idea." He trotted over to the door and opened it up, causing a stream of compressed and irritated goats to flow out. A smattering of "hey, we were listening to that" and "what's the big idea?"s came along, which were met with a air horn to the face. "GET BACK TO WORK, YOU ASSES," he barked, "WE AREN'T PAYING YOU TO LISTEN TO HOOFBALL!"

The rest of the workers steadily streamed out and back to the work site, grumbling all the way, but as long as they're moving and working while grumbling, it doesn't matter. Though, his curiosity piqued, the foreman went over to the radio to see if he could catch any of the broadcast.

"And in Group F, there will be the Inevitable Syndicate, our very own Ibex!, the 'Knobjockeys' of Schiavonia, and Mastille, whom we know nothing about."

"A tough group, certainly," said a voice behind the foreman. He spun around ready to berate whichever worker had the nerve to sneak back into the break room, but stopped himself short as he noted the fine suit the ibex in front of him was wearing.

"Oh, Mister Ha'shim, what a... pleasant surprise! To what do I owe the honor of a visit from the Minister of Logistics?"

"Well, Abdul, I was in the neighborhood and thought it might be a good idea to check how the progress is going on the airship."

"Oh, it is progressing brilliantly, Sir. The framework is finished, and we've progressed nicely in installing the siding and flooring. She'll be habitable within the next to weeks, and airworthy before the month is through, I garuntee."

"That is excellent to hear. I do wish to confirm that you are ensuring your workers are doing their highest quality work, yes? This is a very important project, remember. The fate of thousands of lives and Ibex's international standing rests on the sturdiness of this airship, along with her sister ships!"

"Yes, yes, sir. I'm aware of the magnitude of the situation. This ship will be able to make the flight to the Broken Islands, no problem. Hell, even stray Sindication artillery wouldn't take her down!"

"This isn't a matter to be joked with, Abdul."

"Er--eh, yes, Sir. Of course. I'll get back out there right now and make sure the boys are giving it 110%."

"That's what I like to hear."

How Xi Foureleven met her third-most-famous teammate! (Part One)

Years ago, the rainy morning was like any other in her exclusive Pacific City housing development. Xi Foureleven was out for her morning jog. Rain or shine, it didn’t matter, she was prepared for her run on the path circling the development. This day, though, a young stranger was out, huffing and puffing as hard as he could. Foureleven passed him once on her way, and thought nothing of it.

The next day was cloudy, damp and cool, but dry. Foureleven again ran past this stranger, who groans in agony as she passed. Foureleven stopped and turned around.

“Excuse me,” she said, “I did not know I was in a race.”

The stranger, surprised a grown woman had addressed him, began to open his mouth, when he realized just how beautiful she looked to him.

“I’m, uh—” he forces out; his nerves seized his words forming his flimsy apology from his vocal cords.

Foureleven didn’t like it one bit, but knew some corrective action was necessary.

“If you are noticing me,” she sternly tells him, “then notice me in the eyes.”

The stranger swallowed hard, as he slowly changed his gaze from her feet, dragged that gaze up her athletic pair of legs, used every ounce of power he had to not stop at her shirt, where atop was a stone-cold face with eyes so cold, the stranger felt as if a knife had cut his stomach in two.

“That is not so difficult, is it?” Foureleven questioned.

“Aaah!” shrieked the stranger, who turned around and ran back the opposite direction.
The next morning, rain again soaked Pacific City. Yet, Foureleven was about to pass the same stranger she’d encountered for the last two days.

“Good morning, sir,” she states as she runs by.

It took a second to process Foureleven’s greeting.

“You’re the first person to call me sir!” the stranger somewhat nervously calls back.

Foureleven stopped, turned around, and noticed it was a boy, possibly younger than she first thought. Foureleven knew something was strange: this boy wanted something more out of his life as he was jogging for recreation in the rain, but lacked enough confidence to look straight at her. Unconcerned her reflexes and initial reaction would fail her, Foureleven walks towards him, as the boy looked stunned.

“I called you ‘sir’ as I do not know your name,” she tells him, stopping about a meter and a half away.

“I—I don’t like my name,” the boy dodged the indirect question. Thinking their paths might cross in the future, the boy realized he would need to open up, even though he thought he lacked the confidence to talk to what he thought was a beautiful woman, without breaking down.

“I—I like to play soccer. My n-name’s f-f-Floyd. Floyd Commando.”

Foureleven responded “that is a perfectly good and proper name,” while not changing the neutral look on her face. “My name is a number.”

Floyd looked toward her face, and focused on her lips as they spoke to avoid the same result as the day before. Foureleven responded:

“Eleven.”

Floyd’s face turned gray as his nervousness turned to excitement. His jaw dropped as his legs folded. The woman he’d seen on TV that peaked his lifelong interest in soccer and a proper-name definition of a ‘perfect woman’ was not only standing right in front of him, he had already begun a conversation with her.

“You’re—Xi Foureleven?!” Floyd replied as he began to hyperventilate and bowed before her. “You’re my hero, I LOVE YOU!!!”

Foureleven, enraged at her fan’s display of emotion, stood her ground.

“Get off the ground and cut it out!” she shouts at him. “I am most likely old enough to be your mother and if I meant that much to you then you would know I will have none of that! I am neither!”

Floyd gets up, where Foureleven’s next words, in her usual neutral tone, hit the hardest.

“You have much to learn if you want to play real soccer. Goodbye, sir.”

Foureleven jogged away.

Floyd slowly walked home soaked with bruised pride and a heavy, over-used heart. His name was now known, in a bad way. Perhaps tomorrow would bring a new dream.

(Most certainly to be continued!)

Home Away

Manager
Vamariiel Falavir (F) ~
Age: 1097
Falvir's contributions to Vanorian football and the rise of Ibini FC under her management have landed her the spot as the manager of the national team. She became the first Vyintanese to ever hold the office and to many is seen that anything is possible for anyone residing within the commonwealth. Tactically, she prefers a possessive game with probing from wingers and the midfielders, which suits the player strengths of Valanora, with a history of superb attacking midfielders. Her appointment brout a lot of excitement back to Vanorian football and has been seen as a major cultural moment for the entire commonwealth, especially with the success of guiding the Marauders to the Final of the AOCAF in her first cycle in charge, and the Semis in the World Cup.

Assistant Manager
Polennoion Mitheththor
Age: 1511
Polennoion was an odd choice to be Falavir's right hand man, considering that his squads have never done more than what is expected of them. Granted that being the manager of AC Valanari had never been an easy challenge for him, but there were other options with a better pedigree to choose from. His ability to keep the squad disciplined even when there were signs of tension during the last campaign proved his worth and why Falavir picked him to be the assistant.

Keeper

1 Aediron Galadirdren, Ibini FC
Age - 671
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 174 lbs
Galadirdren looks to be the long term solution for the Marauders in net after several stellar seasons in the domestic scene with Ibini FC. While not loud and "in control" of his box, the keeper is very good when the opposition has a breakaway, as well as some amazing reflexes. His best attribute though is his near perfect position, always seeming to know where the opposition is going to place their shots or crosses.

Defenders

2 Vanacauion Haelinde, Raynor City United
Age - 681
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 168 lbs
A versatile defender who is quick for his size and good with his feet. Can be an attacking threat not only on set piece situations but also deliver good through balls and crosses when he does venture forth.

3 Aearost Tinueme, Raynor City United
Age - 608
Sex - M
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 166 lbs
With the failures of the backline the past few editions, the new managerial staff decided that pairing Haelinde with his club teammate on the national team seemed the best idea. Tinueme unlike Haelinde is a stay at home centerback, looking to disrupt opponents play with a combination of pace, strength and solid positioning. He is a manger's dream of a centerback.

4 Urúvcion Kinarthir, Ibini FC~
Age - 582
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 166 lbs
Part of what makes up a very formidable defense in the Premiership, Kinarthir is a mobile defender who while natural in center of the park, can also operate on the wings. A good passer and crosser of the ball and will have to pick their moments to attack cautiously with the reliance of the centerbacks on the national team for the majority of the defensive assignments.

Midfield

21 Espy va Drake, Yuba United (Paripana)
Age: 747
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 159 lbs
After becoming a folklore hero for the lower class of the world, va Drake has made himself one of the living legends of the game after help leading the side to a title in World Cup 53. He has traveled far and wide while plying his trade, donning kits for no less than five countries clubs. Seen as the driving force in the middle of the park alongside Hawk, it is up to the opposition to try and figure out how to deal with the brilliance the winger and his other attackers have rather than them to create magic.

6 Aintôrthea Durosa, Royal Rumiatzi (Astograth)
Age - 756
Sex - F
Height: 5"10"
Weight: 144 lbs
Durosa is one of those players that can play just about any position, as her skill set is vast and adequate in multiple areas. She developed her skills in her CMSC seasons, nabbing goals and assists with regularity and continued with her transfer to the Cafundeu league. She translated that wealth of experiences into solid form and was named captain to her side in Astograth, with hope that this recognition raises her play for the national team. Her good knowledge of va Drake's typical playing patterns has made the two to be a devastating pair for the opposition to contain.

14 Laborious Hawk, Urbizania Wanderers (Astograth)
Age - 711
Sex -M
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 213 lbs
Words do not even begin to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day. Hawk simply strives to be the very best footballer, captain, and teammate that there can be, with the hunger for perfection driving him forth on and off the pitch.

8 Merenwen Lúinwë, Hondo FC
Age - 677
Sex - F
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 152 lbs
Lúinwë is not really an exceptional talent, not compared to the rest of the midfielders on the side. What she is though is very hard working and disclinplined. Don't let her small statue fool you, she will get stuck in with the best of them and can also spring an attack with well placed through balls. All in all, a player who will fill their role well but likely not exceed it, but with Hawk, Soldarian, and va Drake around her, that's all she will need to do.

7 Faeron Soldarian, Raynor City United
Age - 625
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 163 lbs
Soldarian continues to live in the shadow of more well known players both on the national team and with his club. Despite this, Soldarian is seen by all on the squad as the emotional leader and the linchpin the in the middle that allows the more attacking minded midfielders being allowed to play their game.

Strikers

9 Allandren Fresco, Ibini FC
Age - 500
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 167 lbs
Fresco will once again have to learn to play off a new strike partner with Isiliéseil being recognized for his exceptionally play in the domestic league and given a spot straight into the starting eleven. By now Fresco is a known commodity, strong in the air with a pretty decent shot, the vision to create when asked upon. With both of the forwards very comfortable playing with the ball in their feet rather than one being a poacher, you can expect them to rotate their positions, along with Hawk, to create a fearsome attacking spearhead trio that will be difficult for many managers to come up with a plan to stop.

10 Sellien Isiliéseil, Hondo FC ~
Age - 682
Sex - M

Sellien is a big lad who can play the hold up game when called upon. However he prefers to slink back into the attack, get the ball, and take a run at players with his great dribbling skill. With a cracker for a shot, he's been known to pepper the goal from even forty-five yards away, though accuracy of those shots can sometimes be a problem.

A young woman was getting ready for her first day as an employee of the Mastii federal government. She was assigned to work in the Board of Sport, the newest of the Federal Boards, and she was assigned there to help out with their budgets. As she hopped off the metro to head over to the Board of Sport Building, located near the outskirts of the nation, she noticed how disorderly the place was.

"Excuse me, this is where the Mastii Board of Sport is located, correct?"

"Why, yes. Welcome to the house where dreams are made, and parties occur daily. If you thought that the government would be an extremely helpful place, with great people, then you've never been inside the Mastii Board of Sport!"

The new employee was shocked at the terrible state of the building, as she was sure as hell not expecting how shitty this was. She noticed several employees sleeping on the job, four employees engaging in a plastic sword fight, and overall misconduct of taxpayer money.

"Have you all heard of something known as 'Law and Order'?"

"'Law and Order?' This is the federal government you're talking about, there is no such thing as this so-called 'Law and Order' inside the Board of Sport building. You were probably expecting some menial job, where you calculate money and whatnot. Speaking of calculations, are you the new accountant?"

"Yes, why?"

"Pleasure to meet you, Debbie. Name's Thom, and I'm the guy in charge of this fabulous, lawless society. Your desk is over there."

"Wait, how did you-"

"Oh, I read up on you before you joined us. Great gal, went to the University of Vanersholm, I presume. Anyways, there's your desk, do whatever."

Debbie went over to her desk, the only clean thing in the room, and began to get to work, and hopefully save the Board of Sport, as it was totally unorganized.

Hornets lose opener in tight contest

For Greater Watford, it was a tough game to lose, as many felt they had put in a spirited performance against Audioslavia. It wasn’t a mauling that many predicted, and the team showed some great spirit and tactical knowledge to hold off one of the top teams in the region. Nevertheless, they couldn’t quite get that killer touch that would’ve lead to more coming from this game.

Numbers 1-11 lined up for the Hornets at the Angelotic Temple. Thousands of Greater Watfordians, colloquially known as “The Swarm”, descended upon Valanora to support their side, in the valiant attempts to achieve success in AOCAF 44. Nevertheless, as the whistle blew for kick-off, they could only sit, occasionally stand, and cheer on their side.

It was clear from the outset that Audioslavia had no intention of throwing bodies forward to seek out a huge lead. Of course, this made for a less entertaining game, but it was more tactically efficient. For the opening 10 or 15 minutes, it was a case of defence for the Hornets, as Audioslavia used their superior technique to get the ball towards the box. However, they found themselves faced with a wall of bodies, with Razdeski and R.Warthon holding position at the edge of the box, and Tilder backtracking to provide additional support.

As the half progressed, Audioslavia tried to approach on the wings. This was an ineffective strategy however, as King and V.Warthon used their superior height to limit the options of Uulver and Hudson-Blake. Furthermore, Hemsworth came off the line to block many chances. Hudson-Blake came very close on the 33rd minute, as his angled shot on the right was palmed away by Hemsworth, and curled outside of the post.

Greater Watford found their attacking attempts very limited in the first half. A solid midfield 3 for Audioslavia made it difficult for Samuel Harris to work his way into the attacking zone. The closest Greater Watford got was a lobbed ball into the box that fell for Mannetti. He was always stretching to reach it however, and with Imaslavii rushing him down, his attempt at a chip only sailed over the bar. 0-0 it was, at half time.

The second half saw much of the same from the first half. It became apparent, that Audioslavia had more in reserve than Greater Watford. Their through balls were becoming more effective, with the defence of Greater Watford looking more jagged, as they chased them down. Tilder, on 57 minutes, received a yellow card, for hauling Rijshaart to the ground as he tried to rush by him. Ryan Warthon joined him in the referee’s book 5 minutes later, for roughing up Uulver as he tried to turn away into the box. Not wanting to take risks, Alessandro de Rosso replaced them with Nacho Torli and Fabrizio Fazzarini.

On 76 minutes, the first, and only goal of the game was scored. Rijshaart rushed into the box, holding off Fazzarini. As V.Warthon came in on the wing, the ball was crossed across the goalmouth to Hudson-Blake. Hudson-Blake managed to head the ball down into the path of Uulver, who smashed home a fierce shot, beyond the reach of Hemsworth and Razdeski, rushing across on the goal-line. It was 1-0 to the Audioslavians.

In the dying minutes, Ignacio Peréz was thrown on in place of Samuel Harris, as the Hornets went to a 4-3-3. Audioslavia responded by putting men behind the ball, limiting space for the Hornets. Mannetti, the eternal optimist tried to pull off a stunning 30-yard shot, but it deflected off an Audioslavian, and the resulting corner was cleared. 1-0 it finished, a game that was well played by both sides.

In other news, the GWFA have decided that, whilst it would be a perfectly legitimate tactic to simply attack the Nellietopians with RAID spray, that said tactic will not be utilised in the interest of fairness. Besides, it’s not going to be an exciting game, if one team have been brutally murdered, and it might go against the disciplinary records of some of the players.

The name's Riley. Dave Riley. "Davey" to those who call me a friend, "Aelsh" to those who'd cross the street just to avoid me. No-one's called me "Davey" since I was a kid, and I punched that kid so hard he flew across the street. In another life I might've been behind bars, a bum, another lowlife spendin' his days in the dank gutters of the cess-pit some call Cathair. In another life I might've even been a private eye, risking life and limb for a paycheque to reunite some hard-drinkin' schmuck with whatever provocative and inappropriately dressed broad had had the misfortune to call the guy her husband.

I didn't have no luck, though. Bum, junky, P.I., each wannadose lives would've been a better choice than what little I'd carved out for myself during mine. Dave Riley: Audioslavia national football team manager. Even the dope-fiends, coke-noses and crack-pants spat on me in the street.

Longview was a long way from home. Back in Cathair, we took down trees from the inner city faster than you could say "buttflakes", and we say buttflakes pretty damn fast back in the old country. Longview? Why they had whole forests scattered throughout every city in the damned nation. All this oxygen was makin' me sick. Stands to reason I'd kept the window to my office locked shut. The blue haze of cheap cigar smoke and body odour hung in my office like paparazzos in a hollywood lobby. I checked my watch, saw it was after 10am, and got a suspicion a problem was about to walk in my office and call me Paula.

A knock at my door.

I don't answer. I slide open my desk draw and keep a hand poised over my gun, a six-shooter I call Wee 'Splodey, one that'd gotten me outta more scrapes than I could count, though to be fair I could only count to ten and no more. A hinderance to bein' a football manager. Another knock. I sit, silently, eyeying the door handle with suspicion as it turns. The door slides open. On the other side is a broad, and she might just be the broadest broad I ever laid my eyes on. She was dressed all in blue, her white apron hung over her bosom like sticky clingfilm over the last turkey in the shop. She jumped back as she saw me, surprised, perhaps by my piercing stare, my chiseled jawline, or a combination of the two. She looked around the room, then at me, then at my desk, and then at the bed up by wall to my right.

"'pologies..." started the broad, confirming my earlier suspicion, though I hadn't reckoned on the geese, "..but we don't allow smoking in this hotel. Also, we'd prefer it if you didn't... er..."
the broad eyed the bed again, then looked back at me. "..didn't re-arrange the furniture quite so... radically."
"Well shucks" I started, "I jus' wanted to make this place feel like home, is all. I got myself a fold-down bed, y'see, plus, it makes a bit more room, y'know?"
"..yeah" said the broad, "...but here, in Valanora, sir, our beds don't need to be folded down at night. They... they just stay there."
"Stay there, stuck, unmoving, like a rabbit in the headlights, like a brick wall in a breeze, like a junky on the crest of his last, fatal, hit, silent, cold, dead, alone, slumped, drooling, against a discarded fridgefreezer in the gutter of some big, unforgiving excuse for a city that..."
"No..." interrputed the broad, "no... they just stay there"
"Right"
"...like a bed... in a hotel bedroom. Where did you get that desk from"
"What kinda manager don't have a desk?"
"..one that is currently in a hotel, traditionally. Anyway, this is room service. We have to clean the room... might have to spend a little longer with this one, of course."
"I read al' of your brochure, missy, and I a'nt heard nothing about no rooms'rvice" I retorted, hoping she couldn't see the lie by omission.
"Well, you missed it, then, because we clean our rooms at 11am"
"What am?"
"Boss" came a voice behind the broad, "the coach is ready. We have to leave for the Watford game. It's kind of traditional for the manager to accompany us at the game". I recongised the voice as that of Joe Revelin, my trusty assistant. Joe had been my number-two at Shamrock Cathair, my former team, and had done a lotta the legwork to get me this gig at the national team.
"Time to go, lady" I said to the broad. I went to grab her by the arm but she stepped back, shakin' her mop at me.
"I'm not going anywhere! I have to clean the room!"
"Yeah" said Joe, "It's less traditional to bring along the cleaning lady from the hotel. Might get a few weird questions from the press if she's on the bench too. Come on, Aelsh, lets go."

The Schiavone Scribe
GIANT HORSE RAVAGES CITY

Ibex 0-0 Schiavonia

In an unlikely series of events, a giant horse has destroyed the Schiavone city of Craw.

The day began when I got out of the commentary position here in Raynor City in my clothes on a slide that went out of the side of the stadium and landed on the South Beach in Craw. The beach was covered in chocolate pebbles, which I began to eat. However, Kenny Sanderson VI soon approached me, telling me that they belonged to the UICA, and thus were not mine to be eaten.

"Fair enough," I thought, "I don't want Schiavonia's football teams to suffer, just for the sake of a bit of chocolate." So I left it there, on the beach. It would probably only get sandy and wet anyway.

Then, all of a sudden, the tide came in. with waves that looked higher than the buildings in the city. But I retreated into the city, which raised itself up, and was protected from the ocean. So I tried to climb back into the stadium, but it was the new King Francesco Stadium, which worried me, as this wasn't where the Ibex match was taking place.

I went inside, to see that there was a horse running around the pitch. The closer I got, the larger the horse seemed to get, until it was so big that it dwarfed the empty seventy-thousand seater stadium. It then went on to rampage through the wall of the stadium, and out into the street. I jumped out of the stadium, to see people in the street running away from the massive, out of control horse.

People were being squashed and buildings were being destroyed. I decided to stay in the street, so that I could keep an eye out for the horse in case it came for me. It soon appeared, bounding towards me, unstoppable. There was only one thing for it - I dived out of the way...

...And as I hit the ground, I suddenly realised that I was still in The Battleground in Raynor City. The game between Schiavonia and Ibex was still going on. And it was still as tedious as it had been when I went to sleep. Not much to write home about. And, thankfully, home is still intact. Time to lie back and relax again.

I can't tell you what happened next. This is a family publication. But what I can tell you is, she had wings!

Winther was alone in a small pub, thinking about killing himself, moreover thinking about why he hadn't done it yet. He didn't have anything to live for anymore: his life's work had been shut down by the government, his wife had decided to leave him and take pretty much everything he had and he was hated by everyone. At least he thought that, he wasn't actually sure seeing as he had had little contact with anyone outside of the customers who he had to serve, of which there weren't that many. He had taken up this job to regain contact with the outside world after a year long exodus in an ex-council flat that he decided to buy to escape from what was happening. Some of the people he had served made him not want to go anywhere near the outside world ever again, but most were decent enough people

"You aright mate?" Winther looked up from staring at the floor to see a vaguely familiar face sitting at the bar. Winther struggled to remember who it was and what he had done to him.
"Yeah fine. What do you want?"
"Lager please."
"Any type?"
"Not fussed."
"Good because we've only got one." The man gave a smile of what Winther thought was amusement. He poured out the beer and handed it to the man, still trying to remember where he was from.
After taking a gulp, the man said to Winther, "I think I recognise you from somewhere. Weren't you something to do with stock markets or something?"
"I did own a hedge fund. Sort of." It had been a while since someone had recognised him.
"Oh, weren't you the guy that supposedly caused that train accident a couple of years back? Winter or something like that, isn't it?"
Winther was surprised that someone still remembered, and was hopeful that the supposedly meant something. "Yeah. How did you know?"
"I watch the news. It's a load of sensationalist bullshit but I still keep an eye on things. I don't believe for one second that you had anything to do with it."
"You're the first person to say that." Winther actually felt happy for the first time in a while. "Why?"
"Around the time you were being paraded around as some kind of murderer, the government started to buy up the banks. Very few people noticed or cared. Then it started taking over pretty much everything, with the HRBC blurting government propaganda out of everyone televisions. Anyone high up who questioned the government was smeared, and eventually disposed of to be replaced by a friendlier face. There should've been elections last month. There weren't. It wouldn't have done much good anyway seeing as they would've been 'manipulated', but they flat out just decided to not have them. And the masses just don't care, they just want to watch the football." He gesticulated towards the TV in the upper left corner.
"I missed a lot while I was in hiding, didn't I?"
"We're one of the lucky ones, we weren't killed. They just smeared us."
"What did you do then?" Winther realised they were speaking quite casually for something this secretive
"I apparently tried to make a coup within the party. They were considering sending me to prison at one point, but just decided to let me go for my silence. On that subject I probably shouldn't be telling you this."
"I won't tell anyone."
"I know. You would have done already if you were planning to."
"Got any plans on stopping it?"
"Yes, but not here. Too public."
"I can take it upstairs. I'm pretty sure that's safe."
"Might as well."

95X AOCAF 44 MD1 RP

Postby 95X » Tue May 20, 2014 6:50 pm

This match report brought to you by maple syrup-topped tacos.

95X 1, Cosumar 1
(Foureleven :33; Cosumar :87)

LONGVIEW, VALANORA—A reinvigorated team of 95Xers drew an upset-minded team from Cosumar, as the two played their way to a 1-1 tie in front of 71,000 during their opening game of the forty-forth AOCAF Cup Tournament.

95X held a slight lead in overall possession time of 49 minutes, as Mocha MacConnell led the midfield.

The lone 95X goal came on a throw-in play from the left-hand side of the pitch, where Xi Foureleven shook off her defender and shot at the goal from 19 meters distance and about a 30-degree angle. 95X led most of the way, until a late goal by Cosumar, who took 5 shots on goal in the game, tied things up as time was about to expire.

"They played a great game," 95X Head Coach Marvin Stark said of the opponents following the contest. "Our team did as well. You hope to open with a win but we'll take the draw over the loss."

The next opponent for 95X, Mochria, dropped their opener with Osarius 2-1, pitting two teams seeking their first group stage win.

Lined up to score
Seven goal onslaught marks managerial debut

Mar Sara,Valanora - Nobody expected much out of tonight’s match with Oceanic Lemmingtopias, other than a solid victory. In his debut, Ben Gammal’s eleven delivered, picking up right where they left off at home. If anything, the real surprise was in the tally, with the Legal Eagles scoring seven unanswered goals in the process.

If one asked the man of the hour, Mr. Gammal, however, surprise would not be his tone.

“We had a plan, we stuck to it, and we executed,” he said after the match. “This is how we will win, no matter who we face. The result is exactly what we should expect when it all comes together.”

The scoring started early for the favorites. Just four minutes in, the Lemmingtopians started moving across the midfield, preparing to mount their first attack, when Chance Cloman sprinted in to intercept a pass against the run of play. Continuing at a quick pace, the midfielder took two touches before playing the ball forward again, finding Xavier Boyle wide open just outside the penalty area. Boyle, about to continue play with V-League side Jlinal Cove, advanced uncovered, putting the ball to the left of the opposing keeper, who had the look of someone who had just been rudely awakened.

His striking partner, Quintus Oxboro, wasted no time to join in on the fun. Playing in an advanced role, the Cougars striker found himself marking the opposing keeper as a long shot came through from deep. Heeding the instruction to freeze, Oxboro stood on the edge of the goal area, directly on the keeper’s path, though leaving him room to walk around if desired. For reasons that remain unknown, the keeper decided to attempt to clear the ball without going around the striker - a poor idea if one bobbles the dribble. Oxboro pounced on the loose ball, pushing it right into the net to extend the lead to two in just about ten minutes.

After the match, the striker credited his former club manager - and
newly-minted national boss - with the tactical plan.

“Being aggressive is what Ben’s always taught me,” Oxboro said.

“Just get close and create an opportunity where one might not already exist. Worked well today, definitely.”

Both Boyle and Oxboro would add to their tallies, with the senior striker netting a hat trick. Kenny Stroud would convert a header off of a Slade Brahm corner to add one for himself, while the captain, Cyrus Damhan, also netted a goal. The overall result puts the chances of advancement in a good place for the Legalites, with two draws likely to be enough to send the team through.

However, if one were to ask the manager, two draws would be a disappointment.

“They might do be enough, but we’re not here to draw, we’re here to win. That said, we’ll take whatever we can get, and give them everything we have.”
Host/Co-Host of many World Cup-associated things, mostly long ago. A couple of small wins as well, which is nice.

The ruckus inside the Conclave Halls was so deafening that even the deaf blind bats were having trouble orienting themselves. The occasion was particularly special, given the revelation that an appeal had been lodged with AOCAF to get rid of by-rule E6.0.1, to guarantee the safety of sentient arthropods (and legumes, as it were). The nellies were having trouble enough trying to deal with the diplomacy, but it seemed that some of the members of AFLAC were growing restless.

"EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL CRITTERS!" they chanted in a monotonous tone in their various voices. Of course, the monotonous tone of many species of animals sounded like a cacophony - hence the ruckus in the first place. The nellies were busy trying to settle the situation, but it did not appear that things were going to be settled at all for the next three days. The Duck, seeing the disorder, pulled out a big red button and pressed it. What followed was an unusual sequence of completely unrelated events that eventually resulted in a completely orderly Conclave Hall.

"How did that just happen?"

The Duck shrugged his shoulders. "Well, to be honest, I haven't the fainted clue what half of these buttons do, but at least I know what the other half does."

"So what did just happen?"

"Well, if this marking means anything, some dude just had some psychedelic dream about horses. Either that, or thirteen marionettes in Marrakech married the Market Thief's Master."

"What the hell is th...?"

"Does it matter?" the Supreme Leader of the Nellies then chimed, amid a growing discussion about the big red button. The Supreme Leader was more concerned about other things. "Well, we've got a lot to tackle today, and as much as the button may merit further discussion, we need to decide what to do about the RAID rule. This cannot be allowed to stand. In fact, we need to make decisive action about what we want to do. We need some action that will get AOCAF to change the rule. And we've already ruled out a few other, less savory ideas."

"I still like the forced vacation idea," the Duck nonchalantly suggested.

"We could just as easily press some stupid red button that makes people change their minds about the RAID rule?"

"Nope, checked the stock of big red buttons. There's not a single one that does that."

The Leader winced. "I don't even want to ask."

"Then don't..."

"Anyway," the Supreme Leader remarked, "we are sending a petition to the AOCAF people. We feel that it's probably best to let the AOCAF legal persons to get rid of this by-rule, or at least amend it so that nellies and critters alike can engage in random sports without fear of RAID. Now... we're going to need someone to send this message to the AOCAF Headquarters."

The Duck scoffed. "You think sending them a letter is going to make them change their minds? Since when did writing a letter ever change anything?"
HAHA! NOTHING IN HERE! yet...

"Aaaaaaaaall aboard!" called the Quartermaster, ringing a bell at the base of a ramp to grab the attention of the crowd before him. A deckhand mirrored this action at each of the other twenty ramps surrounding the massive airship, and the massive ring of goat families converged inward to start the trip of their lives. "Single file line, everybody! Let's keep this nice and orderly! Report directly to the room number listed on your ticket!"

Shazi, one of many mothers in the crowd of thousands, led her little kid through the teeming mass of bodies, stopping to admire the magnificent piece of engineering the towered above her whenever the traffic came to a halt. It's a wonder how a giant hunk of wood and metal can fly, with its great steel propellers jutting out wherever the architect felt they had enough clearance to jam them in. The wonder is somewhat explained when one looks towards the back, where the hollowed-out trunks of countless trees glowed with an ominous darkness, as the dark magic the government had not-so-secrently been studying has apparently yielded an incredibly efficient and powerful form of propulsion. Of course, that just raises yet more questions, like where did they get that many hollowed-out trees when the entire country is a bloody desert? Shazi couldn't ponder such topics much longer, as her kid started poking her flank.

"What is it, Butrus?"

"Where are we going, mum?"

"Well, this big ship will take us far away, to a wonderful land where it's not always so hot and sandy."

"If it's not hot and sandy, what's it like?"

"The ground is made of the stone the city is made of, and there are places where there is water as far as you can see! There are these places called 'forests', where there are many trees grouped together in one place, and they are covered in colorful leaves like flowers are!"

"Wow! There are trees that aren't big brown sticks? I can't wait to see them!"

Up atop the walls of Xi'antler, the Minister of Logistics stood beside the Emporor, who was confined to a wheelchair in his old age.

The Emporor hoarsely chuckled as he saw the crowd trickle its way aboard the ship. "It has been too long since I have seen citizens acting together. This is the dawn of a new age, Minister. These brave colonists will be braving a harsh frontier, and will have to act as a community to establish our presence on the Broken Isles."

"A new age, Your Highness? What do you mean by that?"

"There will be less pettiness in this new land. Less obsession over petty profits, less worries over petty issues of honor. You cannot worry about the superfluities that divide us when you need every last neighbor to live through the month."

"I suppose you have a point, Your Highness. The profiteers will likely struggle to convince the other settlers that a strip mine should be set up instead of another three farms."

"Who knows? Maybe they will even develop a moral fiber outside the blasted corporate-corrupted shamble of a religion we call Catholicism."

The minister gasped and had to restrain himself from lunging backwards (as it's generally a bad idea to do so when atop a very tall city wall). "W-what? Am I hearing blasphemy coming from the Emporor's very own mouth?"

"Oh, come off it," bleated the elderly leader, "I never assented to the state of affairs in this nation. I was passed the mantle of Emporor expecting to be assassinated before five years had passed, just like the twenty who had preceded me. I wasn't going to step out of line with the corporations or the church, especially when I had managed to avoid being offed by a random bombing. One has to be wary and know when to roll over to last as long as I have in office, but dear God do I hate what I have had to allow happen in my reign just so I knew a worse ruler wouldn't come to power."

"...I do not know what to say, Your Highness. Except that it would be wise of me to not mention any of this ever again."

"Good decision. I knew there was a reason I appointed you to a position about making practical choices."

Devastating loss for Hornets

In a day that started with optimism, the Hornets found their confidence shattered by their opponents, as they fell to a shocking defeat. Alessandro de Rosso will have to look at his side, and decide what changes to make, for their game against Nellietopia, with a slim hope of reaching the knockout stages.

The same 11 from the Audioslavia game would start against the Blouman Empire. The same 4-1-2-1-2 formation was deployed by Alessandro de Rosso, who hoped to see some success for the Hornets today. As they kicked off, there was an air of optimism.
In the first 15 minutes, the game was relatively dull. The Blouman defence were able to shut down Mannetti and Lincoln, and Harris couldn’t find any space in the centre of the park. At the other end of the pitch, the defence of the Hornets had narrowed, forcing Blouman to try and cross the ball, a tactic that the Hornets could easily defend against.

In the 21st minute, Greater Watford looked to bring out the wing backs up the pitch. Razdeski received the ball from Smith, and tried to initiate an attack down the left. Unfortunately, he was dispossessed by the Blouman right midfielder, who blasted down the empty space on the wing. Damien King tried to hold him off, but he was beaten, and the #10 of the Blouman Empire got the ball on the 18 yard line. With no defenders by him, he took an early shot, which went across the goalmouth, striking the far post and bouncing in, leaving Hemsworth beaten, and the Blouman Empire 1-0 up.

On 34 minutes, Blouman Empire received a free kick, for a foul 25 yards from the goalmouth. With a fierce strike, the ball was struck towards the top corner of the goal, Hemsworth diving to reach it. It rebounded off the crossbar, but Hemsworth was still getting to his feet. The goal was open, and it fell for a Blouman striker first, who headed home, making it 2-0, and the Hornets were in a bad way.

The only attempt the Hornets got was on the 40th minute, as a corner fell to R.Warthon at the back post. However, his headed effort was blocked by the Blouman defence on the goal line, who then cleared to try an initiate a counter attack.

The second half offered little optimism for the Hornets. From the outset, Blouman Empire continued to control possession, limiting the Hornets. De Rosso made his first change of 51 minutes, with Lincoln coming off, and Milo Gregory given a chance. It proved ineffective, as Gregory couldn’t shake off the Blouman defenders.

The game saw its 3rd goal in the 60th minute. Razdeski was blamed again, as he tried to outpace a winger cutting into the box, but knocked him to the ground. A penalty was awarded, although the defence strongly felt the ball was outside the box. Tilder received a booking for his protests about the decision. The Blouman stirker hit the ball to the left, as Hemsworth dived the other way. Razdeski was subbed off, with Alex Salvatore taking his place.

Greater Watford should have scored on the 77th minute, but Mario Mannetti made an uncharacteristic error as he received Harris’ through ball. He successfully rounded the Blouman keeper, butt knocked the ball too far. Rather than steadying himself, he pulled his shot across the goalmouth, and it rolled harmlessly out for a goal kick. The Hornets captain looked a little out of sorts, and Ignacio Peréz came on to replace him.

In injury time, Blouman Empire scored a 4th goal. With the Hornets defence tired, a through ball towards King was picked up by a striker. R.Warthon couldn’t get back fast enough to stop the striker, who shot low and hard to beat Hemsworth, making it 4-0, a crushing defeat for Greater Watford.

If Greater Watford win against Nellietopia, they could still qualify for the knockout stages. However, they must overturn an 8 goal deficit. For example, if they win 4-0, Blouman Empire must lost 4-0 to Audioslavia. A 3-0 win for Greater Watford means a 6-0 loss for Blouman Empire, due ot the goals scored. It’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely. The main goal is to just get a win, or even adraw, or even a goal.

"In sport today, Hutt River drew with New Montreal States in the first match of the AOCAF group stage, a match which manager Albert Müller described as a pleasing performance despite dropping a two goal lead in the second half. An early goal from Pherick Kermode and another by Jim Bexley looked to set the Blues up for an easy victory but a second half fightback robbed Hutt River of the three points.

Of course I'm disappointed in a draw, who wouldn't be in this situation, but the players gave a good performance out there today and we probably would've won on any other day. Unfortunate, but could've been worse.

The headlines again..."

"Turn that wretched thing off please", Winther reached over to the radio and switched it off, "Good. I can't bare to hear anymore of that propaganda. Actually, give it here." Before Winther reacted, the man grabbed the radio and looked around the room.
"There's no real space in here unfortunately. You're probably better off sticking it downstairs somewhere."
"Right-o." He closed the door heavily behind him.

Winther looked around the room. He'd been living here for a month or two, and the place had grown on him during that time. It was a lot smaller than what he was used to, the flat he had been in was actually a decent size, but it was undisturbed. The flat before was disturbed a bit too often for his liking, despite it being halfway up the block, by general door-to-door people who must've been desperate, and the neighbours wanted something occasionally, but this place had no door, no neighbours, in fact it probably didn't even have an address. The pub owners didn't care too much for it, he could tell that from the leaky ceiling and the general grubbiness of the place, so he had no visitors. Winther liked peace. He probably liked it a bit too much. Probably affecting his mental state. He had thought about killing himself a few times in here but he knew that he'd never do it. Too cowardly to take the cowards way out.

The man had returned. "Sorry for being so long, no space down there either so I just stuck it in the bin."
Winther lifted his head from the floor and looked quizzically at the man, "Why?"
"It's probably bugged, knowing what's been going on. Besides you don't need that anymore. There's only one radio station and it's the government so..."
A silence engulfed the room for a brief moment. Winther was still as awkward as he ever was talking to people. He had something to say but he was just unable to get it out of himself. When it finally decided to force itself out of his throat, he blurted out,
"Why can I trust you? I don't even know your name. You could just be some raving lunatic for all I know. Or you could just be lying for profit or something. I'm in a pretty gullible position right now seeing as I've only had a month or two of outside contact, after a year of knowing absolutely nothing. Everything seems fine to me."
After a pause, thinking over how to respond to this, he said, "I expected you to say this. I'm actually surprised that you've taken so long to think this. Unfortunately I can't show you any proof right now so you're gonna have to take my word on it. Besides I don't look untrustworthy, do I? I know you shouldn't judge by appearances and all that, but there's no reason not to."
"I wouldn't mind seeing some of this proof thanks. I can only trust you then."
"You seem interested. I can see you relatively soon and show you the plan and stuff."
"Alright then. Here or..?"
"Erm... We could go over there", the man pointed at a back alley.
"Bit public don't you think?"
"Nah, there's a couple of connected ones. Should be obscure enough to not be disturbed."
"Alright."
"See you in two days then."

The Schiavone Scribe
WE DIDN'T... LOSE?

Schiavonia 1-1 The Inevitable Syndicate

In an unlikely series of events, Schiavonia did not lose their match at AOCAF44 against The Inevitable Syndicate.

The game was going as expected, as Jacob Pratt put the Syndicate ahead midway through the first half with a goal that cut through the Schiavone defence, unstoppably lashing it past a helpless Viliaka O'Connor.

But, after that, the Schiavone defence held firm, while the Syndicatian attack missed a number of chances. It seemed as though the Sloths were ready to be finished off, but they hung on in there. Then, as the Mar Sara crowd anticipated the Inevitable result, the stuff of dreams happened.

The crowd all turned out to be half made of jelly, and began to eat each others' bottom halves. In amongst all of this, John Blige ran free of the Syndicatian defence, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net.

Somewhere amongst all of this, I awoke again. I can't figure out where, but when I came around, the scoreboard definitely read 1-1. Blige's goal could have been real, something else could have happened, I'm not sure. If only I wasn't staying up all night to watch matches from the Copa Rushmori and Campionato Esportiva, maybe I'd get through the games.

But one-all it was, and one-all it finished. Next up are Mastille, and if the Sloths can beat them, then they will be through to the knockout rounds! And who would have thought that would have happened at the start of the tournament? It probably still won't, mind you, but if I can stay awake, I'll tell you all about it!

Nellietopia Express Post Journal of Current Events Translated by Freaky Dudes

Letter to AOCAF Marks Inaugural Pigeon Internet
AOCAF PLACE THIMAGABOR? - The Express Post Journal has news that a letter was sent to AOCAF by the recently refurbished Columbinet. Following new legislation in Nellietopia, the Columbinet features the fastest and most secure method to transmit information and data from point A to point B. The letter sent to AOCAF was the first such transaction of the Columbinet. Early reports suggest that the letter was "warmly received" with some "healthy head-scratching" followed by bouts of "hysterical laughter". Two AOCAF employees were reportedly sent to the emergency room with severe cases of "spastic diaphragm contractions".

The Express Post Journal believes that this message is in connection with recent reports that Great Watford - next opponents at the current edition of the AOCAF following Nellietopia's 2-nil loss against group leader Audioslavia - were threatening to use cans of RAID to gain an advantage in a footy campaign that has yet to take off. Uncharacteristically, the Conclave has been quiet about the rumours, which have been since redacted by the Greater Watford Football Association and associated press. All official communications within the Conclave suggests that Nellietopia seeks a peaceful outcome to the situation. All questions to AOCAF, the Vanorian FA, the Vanorian AOCAF Hosting Committee, the Nellietopian FA, the Nellietopia AOCAF Hosting Committee, the Duck, the Moose, Bloody Mary, the Virgin Mary, and Chuck Norris went unanswered.

Intern Blamed for Poor Plot
NELLIETOPOLIS - Today's loss to Audioslavia was blamed in some quarters of the Nellietopia FA on an intern responsible for drafting, editing, revising, and publishing plots. The unnamed intern was reportedly one of the few remaining residents of an obscure, long-forgotten country, once renowned for exporting their faulty interns to the world. Among the many complaints listed by the Nellietopia FA, the intern's plots involved "fairy-tale creatures in an unrealistic setting", while forcing an "awful combination of serious and farcical elements" into a storyline that "half seemed the concoction of a raving madman, and half seemed unfit even for the viscous mass extruding from the colonic spincter". The Nellietopia FA immediately announced the intern's termination of employment, which was followed with the ceremonial consumption party.

Nellie Scouts Bake a Better Cookie
NELLIETOPOLIS - The ubiquitous Nellie Scouts Corporation announced yet another flavour in their infamous Nellie Scout Cookie franchise. Reportedly made with 100% genuine ingredients, the "Dancougar" flavour evokes the aroma of weird technobot battles and an odd fascination with Pennsylvanian fowl. Every box of Nellie Scout Dancougar Cookies comes with a free Nellie Scout Frying Pan, official mascot of the Nellietopia Football Team.

Wait, Wait, Don't Spray Me!
CAPRI - The Council of Foreign Affairs in Nellietopia has advised all residents of Nellietopia of possible RAID attacks. "We're really not sure what this means, but we've read some research which suggests it could be dangerous," the Council said in a released public communication. The communication further indicated that the Nellietopia-Greater Watford match in the Vanorian city of Capri would pose the greatest risk. "If you fear that you are subject to a RAID attack, please notify the nearest Nellietopian consulate."

95X AOCAF 44 MD2 RP

Postby 95X » Wed May 21, 2014 8:37 pm

With a riff from the Primetime News music package, the technologically disadvantaged station with higher viewership than any other local 95X television station (due to the number of analog tube sets in use in its home city and surrounding areas) began its newscast:
Thanks for making us the country's number one local news!
Broadcasting in 480i from Mount Cascadia to you, NTSC 23 News at Six!

Image
After however many minutes of news and weather, and not to mention commercials, the station comes back from break on anchor Kim Fisher.

"Time now for Sports; Dennis Jones tells us our national soccer team is one game away from the Round of Sixteen?"

"That's right, Kim, good evening everyone, after the second draw in a row, 95X needs a win against group-leading Osarius to advance. Let's look at the highlights between 95X and Mochria, Xi Foureleven giving us her usual look there, now watch this from the first half, Mocha MacConnell, eighteen years old from right here in Cascadia, playing her first international tournament, doing a great job against her defender but just not quite enough to push the ball into the attacking side; three minutes later, one to nothing Mochria. She redeems herself in the second half though, similar play, feeds it up the chain, finds Commando, goal. Game tied, and that one-all score would hold for the remainder of the match."

(Coverage cut to sound bite of Marvin Stark discussing MacConnell)

"Yes, we did go to her again, we knew she could convert, and the only way to gain international playing experience is through international playing time."

(Another sound bite of Floyd Commando)

"We knew we could pull it together, now we just have to work harder and get a win."

(Back to Dennis Jones)

"Now if 95X ties Osarius, and the match between Cosumar and Mochria ends in a draw, second place will be decided by tiebreakers. Now on to NVL…"
95X 1-1 Mochria
(Commando :67; Mochria :32)

Mangolana Gazzette

The Return

A Long time ago, on a region, far far away... DAH DAH DAH DADADADHHHHH, DAAAAAH DAAAAH (And so on so forth)

Mangolana soccer was on the climb, and heading for unprecedented heights, until the first war of Mangolana struck. Though Mangolana had qualified for the World Cup, the ongoin civil war cost Mangolana their shot as they were removed from World Cup contention and effectively ended the run of great soccer. Though they re-qualified for the World Cup the second time after their reemergence on the world stage, Mangolana would sink back into obscurity the following World Cup. After a failed run at the Cup of Harmony, Mangolana would find itself continuosly falling for many a moons in a lost universal porthole through the never never blackhole and out the bottom of a giant alien buttoxx and back through the same hole from wence we came (How we got their you don't want to know, just know, it was dark and was brown, very brown) and some how managed to age a grand total of zero years and even managed to age backwards by a about half a day (though all the sports stars for Mangolana managed to age eight years, how they did and we didnt we will never know), the nation, formerly of the greatest land in the world, Rushmore, has landed in an even better land, which shockingly has no geese, but does include lots of geese like meals around the land (still unconfirmed rumors of Goose hunting seasons, we can only hope), Atlantian Oceania.

Now Mangolana sits in the 44th edition of the AOCAF, which marks Mangolana's first run at a confederations title outside of the Copa Rushmori, which we never won, though we feel we were robbed, on every attempt to win the title. Mangolana though will be looking to place its mark on the AOCAF. This job will be helped by a win in the final game of the the group stage as Mangolana looks to defeat Hutt River while needing a New Montreal States loss against host Valanora in hope of reaching the knockout rounds of the tournament, their first in ages. Look for Mangolana to give it all in this match, and we will report back soon on the outcome of the match and the possibility of further matches.

Eel-Cat Things Start Strong

Unolia Battle to decide Group

Heading into the third matchday of the AOCAF 44 Group Stage, both Vilita & Turori and their opponents the Unolian Kingdom have already assured themselves a place in the knockout rounds of the competition by virtue of their victories over Weimania and Perlasilangan on the opening two matchdays.

For the Eel-Cat things, it all started super brightly with a tone-setting 4-0 victory over Weimania. Entering the tournament as the top seed and, for the first time in the modern era, as the reigning World Cup Champions by virtue of the success of the Vilita Jungle Cats in the World Cup 68 final over the Free Republics - Vilita & Turori were sporting a mixed and youthful side looking to re-claim the regional title after being ousted from contention during AOCAF 43 by Farfadillis.

Turorian prospect G.Q Disterfred II started in net for the Eel-Cat things with long time Vilitan defender Miiara Makose taking the captains armband and leading the otherwise youthful team to start things off in Valanora.

It was a slow start for the Eel-Cat things who were still getting their bearing straight having just arrived in Valanora the night before the match without having had any full-team training sessions integrated between the representatives of the two nations due primarily to the holdover from the Vilitan World Cup celebrations and the alternative schedule imposed upon the Vilitan League season.

However, come the second half, the Eel-Cat things were firing on all cylinders once again with Perran Adlani scoring twice to headline a 4-goal second half that also saw tallys from Cednia Beach AFC's Dmitri Levada and Vilitan youngster Kaivel Illatara.

After the convincing second half performance against Weimania, expectations were set high for the second match against Perlasilangan. Clearly looking to give all of his players a look and have an opportunity to see what his knockout round lineup might look like, head coach Nycflala Kater rang in the changes and it was Marine Coast United's Cilamara Issah in goal for the second match.

It was a rough start for Issah who conceded 3 goals in the opening 20 minutes as Vilita & Turori fell into an early 3-1 hole. Kater's side kept their cool however and maintained the pressure throughout, including a swarm of corner kicks, and had pulled level by the halfway point, including a thrilling goal from the young Turoki Isle starlet midfielder Westii Yahaya.

In the second half, the Eel-Cat things left it late but eventually got the go-ahead goal 10 minutes from time from substitute defender Geafi Laina-Sola. Enluta Makakio added another to give Vilita & Turori the 5-3 victory and secured their place in the knockout round.

The matchday 3 clash between the Eel-Cat things and the Unolian Kingdom will offer Kater the opportunity to truly test his squad with nothing to lose before the knockout round, only placement atop the final group stage table at stake to the winner.
