Oh hey (Harry McClain) here, I am on the NEWS!!!
tadadadadadadadada :P

Guys the thing that exites all of us here in Wintreath, is the spirit of co-operation...And our eagerness of perfection...Each one of us, here on the Goverment and as citizens, work hard to give something perfect to our Region! For example we never pass a mandate, withought having 10 thoughts over it!
Plus the Ministries are doing an excellent work, and now we want to have perfect Elections next time also! I never really understood the negative comments.
Since you know that we are a young region, you could actually say "heyy nice effort, good to see you're doing well", whats the point being mean, or a troller on comments etc...I found it wrong and idiotic :P (added a new word on my vocabulary)
Well anyway it's nice actually to see that Wintreath is being recognized further more on public...and I wish from the bottoms of my heart, for your regions to prosper and try to do something in our world :)

As Wintermoot pointed out, I did hope to see more coverage of UCR news and I'm disappointed I haven't had time to do more in that direction with my own publication. I'm glad The Rejected Times did this interview. I wanted to cover UCR news precisely because of this mentality that UCRs of any background are irrelevant in comparison to GCRs, which receive far too much attention due to their artificial populations. Some facts about Wintreath:

- It's the 17th largest region in the world, the 4th largest UCR if you exclude puppet dumps.
- It has a population of 513.
- Its WA Delegate has 88 endorsements, putting him in the ballpark of two Sinker Delegates.
- It has one of only a handful of active defender military forces and is in the growing defender bloc that is active in military gameplay without joining an interregional organization.

To me, that makes it relevant. That's remarkable growth given how long the region has existed in comparison to the three UCRs that have higher populations. It's a problem for NationStates that we see regions like this as less relevant than Feeders and Sinkers despite the abundance of activity and dedication it takes just to bring in that high a population, let alone to foster an active forum community, gather endorsements for their Delegates, etc. UCRs like Wintreath (and XKI, Europeia, Capitalist Paradise, etc.) should be hubs of activity for this game and should receive far more attention than they do.

I very much agree with Cormac about the general point that large UCRs can be highly important and relevant regions. Naturally, it goes without saying the corollary to the immense effort needed to build a UCR like Wintreath is that maintaining a stable and vibrant GCR community is similarly demanding.

Of course, ultimately what should make any UCR or GCR relevant from an outsider's perspective is not just its capacity, in terms of population, military strength or domestic activity, but the extent to which a region is then prepared to proactively utilise that capacity to achieve its aims in its external engagement. A very large region of any category can thrive in its internal community and sit on a large population for a long time, while ultimately achieving little of substance from a wider geopolitical point of view because it fails to be bold enough to adopt and implement a concerted foreign policy.

COMMENTARY | UNIBOT

Fortunately for KiwiTaicho, he is running against someone more vapid in personality and charm than the average tax accountant. The long-time imperialist, r3naissanc3r, lectures with the appearance of faux sensibility that comes with his distinguished career in electoral politics in the Eurosphere and his numerous partisan appointments in judicial and bureaucratic departments. R3naissanc3r’s failure to compensate for the appearance of his pocket protector with any sign of a robust, innovative set of policies has left his campaign just as stagnant.

This desperate personal attack is even more amusing now. Indeed, R3n's campaign was so stagnant and unappealing to voters that it looks like he has won the elections in the 1st Round. :p

I trust we'll be seeing an OFO-esque u-turn from TRR on this matter in due course?

I am sure R3n and the team he chooses for his Cabinet will do an excellent job for TNP's community and security, and I am looking forward to making progress on various issues both as a Balderan ally and a TNPer.

Contrast the "Osiris Elects New Pharaoh" article with Issue IX from a few months ago.

Now, that is a u-turn.

I was wondering whether we will see anything similar with the new TNP Delegate, or whether Unibot is going to continue to refer to the Delegate of the largest region in the game in the same terms as quoted above. ;)

I don't recall writing any criticism of Sev's campaign per se. We had a bit of a break while I was running for delegate and the Osiran elections occurred during that break. I doubt I would have had much to criticize - his campaign came across as strong and charismatic, which is probably exactly what Osiris needs and has needed for a long time. My problem with TNP's candidates were they were all running as something, "the empty suit", "the policy wonk", "the radical" etc. and none of them were really hitting the mark in terms of what those kind of candidates should excel at. Kiwi seemed to be having a hard time connecting with voters, r3n didn't seem to have much of a developed policy (so much as an ideology) and Romanoffia wasn't particularly radical (it was a carbon copy of the leading political party's manifesto).

You seem pretty desperate to attack the newspaper this week, NES. Something up?

R3naissanc3r elected Delegate – New Cabinet yet to be released!
COMMENTARY | TRR STAFF

R3naissanc3r was officially recognized today as The North Pacific’s new delegate. R3naissanc3r clinched the vote with just over half of the electorate (54.29%), while other candidates like Kiwi (22.86%) and Romanoffia (14.28%) proved less popular. Abacathea (63.16%) snatched the Vice Delegate position away from Flemingovia (34.21%), while Zyvetskistaahn rode safely into the speaker’s chair (55.26%).
Why is it that Aba 'snatched' the VD position and Zyvet 'rode safely' when the latter got less of the vote? It doesn't make sense.

R3naissanc3r has yet to announce his cabinet. A rumor suggests imperialist lineage from the likes of North East Somerset or Rachel Anumia could make an appearance,
Rumours you made up, of course?

I find this whole article to be rather passive aggressive and one step away from what Unibot would like to say. Come on, Unibot, don't be shy, say what you really think of the new government. Say the words "Invaders Take Over TNP in Election Cycle".

Come on, we all know you're thinking it. We all know what you think of the newly elected Delegate. Stop dancing around the issue and just say it.

It's also worth noting that instead of Unibot the author of the article is apparently 'trr staff'.

A rather ineffective attempt to hide... something or other.

Interesting to see that a member of 10000 Islands is so sensitive to these remarks.

The issue I was addressing was what makes a region relevant from an outsider's perspective. Just having internal strength is not enough.

To be a strategic player in world affairs, you need to develop a foreign policy and capitalise on domestic strength to promote that policy.

If a region chooses to shut itself in a castle and pull up the draw bridge for fear of creating resentment, then they are not globally relevant.

If managed correctly, a foreign policy can minimize the extent to which resentment is created among those regions whose feelings you care about. However, a region refusing to interact from its potential position as a global power has no claim to that position for its domestic strength alone.

That thought crossed my mind too.

Rachel has never been materially involved in the LKE or TNI, beyond holding basic citizenship as an inactive member but no more in the latter.

She has been Monarch of Empires of Earth, but after the Congress of Sovereigns era. Far more important in her lineage have been her periods leading Europeia and subsequently Balder. No one whose only main regions are Europeia and/or Balder identifies as imperialist to my knowledge (although from my complete and mere outsider's perspective Balder has become imperialist in its approach since the institution of ISRA, after Rachel ceased to be the head of state) - you might argue Rachel has expressed views akin to those of an imperialist, but she cannot be painted as forming part of any imperialist lineage.

It's pretty crappy really. I spent so much time in Europeia and Balder, more than I have in any other region by far and I've written so many works on independence as well. It's pretty low to call me things I'm not. If I was an imperialist, I'd be proud to be one, but when I'm not one it's just disrespectful. Furthermore, I've had two NS children become delegate of TNP. Mcmasteronia and Jamie. So does that make them "imperialist lineage" too?

Overall, The Rejected Times coverage of TNPs election has been nothing short of shameful and embarrassing. This sort of thing reminds me of why it makes it so easy to dislike defenders. I don't think it's fair and it gives TRR a bad name.

It's more that you're imperialist aligned (I also don't buy that Balder has only been imperialist from very recently, clearly there was an imperialist bent going back to before Rach was delegate), in much the same way that, a few years back, the region of Catholic was allegedly 'defender' because Christian Democrats had links to a few defenders.

In an area of NS where association really is everything, if you choose to be aligned with x group, don't be surprised when people say you are indeed aligned with x group.

That being said, the argument that r3n is some kind of ebul imperializt out to turn TNP into some kind of weird mix of balder and lke, is asinine to the extreme.
