Why is it that whenever new World Assembly mods are added, they're always chosen from the same group of Antarctic Oasis pals?

Maybe because quite a high proportion of the long-term GA regulars could be described as "Antarctic Oasis pals" in one sense or another? After all, the region tends to acquire puppets even from reguiars who don't make it their main base...

There are plenty of qualified people who aren't part of the region or that general friend group, who would be great mods. I don't think it's just an innocent coincidence that Flib, Mousebumples, and Mall are all closely associated with the group that Ardchoille also belongs to. They all get together in their secret forum and say mean and vile things about other players, like a group of high school girls. There's no doubt in my mind that nepotism and cronyism got all three where they are.

There's not a single person I've talked to who wasn't shocked that Mall was chosen. The way I hear it, he was also surprised. Is that really not indicative of a wrong choice, here?

I'm sure Mouse will be a fine mod, in that she isn't generally biased. But it's obvious why she was chosen, apart from her meeting the AO requirement. There's no distinguishing between Mouse and Flib and Ardchoille and the rest of the team. Mouse was chosen because the choice doesn't threaten the groupthink or status quo.

Mall, on the other hand, is the kind of guy who destroys a region because he doesn't like the politics of some players. And then he gloats about it offsite (and probably on, too) and devises plans on how to humiliate the region further. He is a troll and he's proud of it; he says so himself. It's his claim to fame in this game. He has no reason being a mod, especially in the one part of the game that requires a higher level of ethics and neutrality for mods.

I'll admit that, although Mousie being one of the choices didn't surprise me at all, seeing Mall listed too was a bit unexpected.

Mall is a GA mod?! I would expect him to be more active... elsewhere. Something like Gameplay or what, since his claim to fame is well, raiding.

The most common names were Todd and Mall. I don't see a reason either of those two wouldn't be tapped.

I'd love to hear about "ethical raiding" one day but that's besides the point. While I don't approve of Mall's ethics in raiding, it does not affect his judgement and impartiality. That, I believe, is most important. Ethics isn't really an important consideration here to be honest.

Agreed. Mall is cut out to be a mod sure, but not GA-wise. He hasn't been active GA-wise to actually justify such a decision.

If you are talking SC, then that's perhaps slightly more palatable.

Ven raises a good point here. Mall will make a fine mod IMO (so long as he keeps taking bribes and what not). But really, how people play the game is not always equal to their code of RL ethics or morals. If it was, I'd hate to meet some of you in real life, lol.

I don't care that Mall raids. R/D has nothing to do with GA modding. What I care about is that they picked somebody who destroyed a region because of my and Unibot's views in the WA. Regional destruction that was cheered on by Ardchoille, Flib (who even sent in a nation to help), Mousebumples, and orchestrated by Mall. It was all personal. It wasn't just plain old raiding. The plan was to use Eastern Islands of Dharma, a region known as the HQ of "International Federalism," to bolster NatSov resolutions as a way to personally humiliate two players -- which I couldn't care less about from the standpoint of GA politics, but which I very much care about when it comes to whether or not we should really be choosing mods from that pool of players.
