KNL Season 17-18 format

Regular season:
KNL1: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team once in the apertura and once in the clausura.
KNL2: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team once in the apertura and once in the clausura.
KNL3n: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team twice.
KNL3s: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team twice.

Playoffs:
For international competitions (Champions' Cup, Globe Cup):
A#1-C#1 for Champions' Cup 1. KNL has no Champions' Cup 2 this season.
Loser of A#1-C#1 is Globe Cup 1.
A#2-C#2 for Globe Cup 2 and 3. Winner is Globe Cup 2, Loser is Globe Cup 3.
If there are duplicate teams, A#3-C#3 will be played, winner takes lowest possible duplicate team place, pushing up #2 teams to #1 spots where applicable.

For promotion/relegation between KNL1 and KNL2:
A#20 and C#20 relegate for A#1 and C#1.
A#19 plays C#2, A#18 plays C#3, C#19 plays A#2, C#18 plays A#3
Duplicate teams get the best possible seeding (as #18 or #2)

For promotion/relegation between KNL2 and KNL3ns:
KNL3n #1 plays KNL2A #20
KNL3n #2 plays KNL2A #19
KNL3n #3 plays KNL2A #18
KNL3s #1 plays KNL2C #20
KNL3s #2 plays KNL2C #19
KNL3s #3 plays KNL2C #18
Duplicate teams get the best possible seeding (as #18-#19, in that order).

KNL 3n/s:
The number of third divisions goes down from three to two. The Eastern division is abolished, and its active teams are divided over the KNL3n and KNL3s. The total number of KNL3 teams goes down from 46 to 40.

Ko-oren does not have a huge population to permit itself three third divisions, and a number of third division teams have been fully amateur teams anyway. Those teams will automatically relegate to local amateur leagues, but will partake in the state championships (as a number of amateur teams already are). In their place, feeder clubs will play in the KNL3 (but will not be able to promote).

On feeder clubs:
Every state will have its own feeder club. Clubs from that state can pull players from the feeder club during the season the player turns age 20 at the earliest, the season when the player turns age 21 at the latest. This means every youth player has a two season timeframe to be pulled. Every feeder club will play in the KNL3.

On wages:
Players in the KNL1 should be paid enough to make a living, every player in the KNL1 has a professional status. In KNL2, professional players should be paid enough to make a living. Amateur status players need to be paid according to their hours of training and playing. In KNL3, amateur players only. Their wage situation is the same as in KNL2. Feeder club players are to be in school, and therefore their wage may not be under their age's minimum wage, and not over 1,5x their age's minimum wage.

Regular season:
KNL1: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team once in the apertura and once in the clausura.
KNL2: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team once in the apertura and once in the clausura.
KNL3n: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team twice.
KNL3s: 20 teams. Each team plays each other team twice.

Playoffs:
For international competitions (Champions' Cup, Globe Cup): 2 CC places, 3 GC places.
A#1 v. C#1 -> winner gets highest seed. In case of duplicate teams: next winner is second seed.
A#2 v. C#2 -> winner gets highest seed. In case of duplicate teams: next winner is first/second/third seed.
A#3 v. C#3 -> winner gets highest seed. In case of duplicate teams: next winner is second/third seed.
A#4 v. C#4 -> winner gets highest seed. In case of duplicate teams: next winner is third seed.*

Duplicate teams get the best possible seeding (as #18-#19, in that order). A higher (in case of KNL2) or lower (in case of KNL3) ranked team will take the place of the worse seed. This means that if the same five teams end up as KNL2 #20-#16, the #15 team also has a chance to relegate.

On feeder clubs:
Every state will have its own feeder club. Clubs from that state can pull players from the feeder club during the season the player turns age 20 at the earliest, the season when the player turns age 21 at the latest. This means every youth player has a two season timeframe to be pulled. Every feeder club will play in the KNL3.

On wages:
Players in the KNL1 should be paid enough to make a living, every player in the KNL1 has a professional status. In KNL2, professional players should be paid enough to make a living. Amateur status players need to be paid according to their hours of training and playing. In KNL3, amateur players only. Their wage situation is the same as in KNL2. Feeder club players are to be in school, and therefore their wage may not be under their age's minimum wage, and not over 1,5x their age's minimum wage.

The top eight teams go to the playoffs (8v1, 7v2, 6v3, 5v4) and the final two teams play a best of 7 championship round.

The White Diamonds get another Regular Season title, their third in a row. It has to be increasingly bitter for them, as they never capitalized on their achievements and won the championship round. The Dominators made it into the top eight this time, and last season's runner-up Kangutsu Blues fell to ninth this season. Uzhotu Silvers traded their last-time last place for a 14th place, while the Capitals have the worst win percentage by some distance. Lastly, the Lords looked to qualify for the playoffs this season, but instead of improving on their 10th place, they dropped to 12th. And again, the relocated teams failed to improve. Both Ningabasa teams and the Uzhotu Silvers are still not where they wanted to be. Other teams in the eastern region were successful: the White Diamonds, the Dominators, the Sapphires and the Blizzards.

For the first playoff round, we get to see the biggest rivalry in Ko-orenite basketball already: the Tazers against the Elves. Two surprisingly good teams for both being together in a barely populated region (the west), that generally is not a hotspot for basketball players anyway.

The top four seeds are decimated! Only the Tazers survive, and the White Diamonds will kick themselves for again, again not advancing to the championship round! The Giants fall to the Blizzards, and the Sapphires fall to the Westerners.

Eighth seed Dominators reach the championship round! The Tazers apparently can't force another good game after the derby win over the Elves, and it costs them.
