Lacrosse. The sport of sticks and balls was basically invented in Menukten. Well, not Menukten per say. In Menukten, the sport is only as old as the squonk settlements on that land. But the Menuktenese squonks can claim something in regards to the sport beyond any other nation in the WLC 18: squonks received the game directly from the Creator.

Elder tradition says that when the Creator saw how sad the squonk people were when they would hide themselves away from all living creatures and weep at their hideousness, she invented a game for the squonks to play so that they would forget about their appearance and have fun in each other's company. That game was lacrosse. The rules were different: originally there were about 100 people on each team and the goals were in separate villages. But the roots of lacrosse are clear: a game to celebrate life and honor the Creator.

Squonks took to lacrosse like flies to sugar and soon all major rituals and ceremonies in squonk society involved the game. Lacrosse became much more than a way to honor the Creator Spirit. It became a complex ritual of harmony and interconnectedness with all the peoples of the land: the no-leggeds, the two-leggeds, the four-leggeds, the wingeds, the finned. Lacrosse became so important to the people that the coaches and managers of lacrosse teams were often the community's most respect holy men and women.

So you could say that Menukten is easily the most experienced team in the WLC, even though it is there first. Sure the game is different, and sure it has been lifted from its ritualistic and spiritual context and played solely for its own sake. But lacrosse runs in Menukten's blood. It was the squonks who taught the Native Americans of the eastern seaboard and southern Canada the game they called the Creator's. And though American and Canadian palefaces took the game and changed the rules, squonks found they could easily adapt their traditional lacrosse skills to the new context. True, at times it felt that the new rules were an invasion, an extension of all the broken treaties, forked tongues and habitually lying of the white man. But though the whites may have shaped lacrosse to their own liking with their medicine, Menukten's lacrosse has the blessing of the spirits.

Emma Crooked-Leg sighed and popped the tab on a can of fruit juice. The gentle breeze felt wonderful out there on the balcony. It was springtime in Anditia, and the wind brought the soothing aromas of daffodils, tulips and lilies. It was intoxicating against the black night, with the stars sparkling above in the emptiness and the Milky Way flowing across the sky as if some artist had dipped his brush in white paint and flicked the colors into the depths of night.

The surrounding solace did nothing to soothe the ragged frustration burgeoning in Crooked Leg's stomach. It was their first game in the WLC and they had lost, by four goals to The Sarian. True, the Sarian were a pretty high ranked team and by all rights Menukten should have expected to be able to beat them. But lacrosse is our game, Crooked Leg reflected with some venom, the Creator originally taught it to us.

She clenched her jaw and indulged in the flow of vehemence. But through the whirling images, she remembered the old woman.

She had gone to an old medicine woman to do a vision quest before she left for Anditia to compete in the WLC, as is traditional for all Menukten athletes. She sat boiling in that sweatlodge next to that smelly old woman, the air saturated with super heated steam and a smell of pine cones as thick as a cloud. Vision quest, indeed. The only visions she was getting was how much better it would be to use this time to practice.

As if reading her mind, the old woman whispered to her in that burning fog.

"My, dear, why do you play?"

Why do I play? That's easy. I want to win.

She told her so.

The old woman just shook her head and then, after a long silence, whispered, barely audibly.

"What a paleface answer."

As Crooked Leg sat leaning in her chair on the balcony, the chill air caressing her bare arms, her head began to nod, and then she slumped forward in sleep, her drink untouched on the table beside her.

She had a dream. A dream of animals. A dream of otter, mouse, deer, bison, bird, lizard, dog, elk, and goose people all playing lacrosse, all laughing and feasting together, all dancing around the sacred pole, arms in arms, like the Ghost Dance of old. A dance to bring in the New World.

Crooked Leg understood. The reason for playing was not to win. The reason for playing was to please the Creator.

She walked forward with her stick in her hand, and joined that circle of stamping paws, clapping hooves, and twirling claws.

Huge Opening Victory for Estope Lacrosse
Group D Scores:
Darus 5–21 Estope
Darvale 8–9 Paradystopia
Itanpavia 7–8 Nassau-Hessen

The Estope Lacrosse team was dominant in their opening game against Darus scoring an impressive 21 goals and winning by a 16 point margin. This team certainly looked like the number 6 team in the world as everyone had a stellar game against Darus. John Ripp netted four goals while Alex Cotter and Westy Gilmartin each scored six. Midfielders Pat Eaton and Will Brenneman each scored a goal and Tyler Corrigan scored three. Alex Cotter commented on this outburst of goals after the game saying, "Without any real competition, we just went out there and had fun. It's always good to have easy games like this to build confidence and get some good work in. Tomorrow will hopefully be a little more challenging so we will have to be ready." The defense also appeared solid, although they did allow five goals, most of which came way after the game had already been decided. Goalie Kyle Scioscia was not as happy with how the game went as was the offense. "The defense, starting with me, really need to lock down. We play sloppy out there once we had a huge lead but we need to not let up. This is training for tougher games to come." All in all though there was not much to critique after this blow out victory. Estope will play Darvale tomorrow, but they really shouldn't be much tougher than Darus. Darvale has still yet to release a roster and rumors are going around that they do not even have a full team. Never-the-less, they were able to play Paradystopia very tight. Then again, while Paradystopia is ranked highly, their team isn't what you would consider top notch.

Due to the continued communication-specialist strike in Anditia, the WLC18 results have been delayed once again. We appologize for this and hope to have all strike issues resolved soon.

ImageCosumar flattens Menukten 20-4

A collective grown issued from Menukten homes everywhere today as the Cosumar Dragons flattened in its second WLC match. Fans hoping for Menukten to make a good showing in the tournament have been dissapointed with two straight losses.

The Cosumarite team, currently ranked 6th, ran circles around the Menukten defense with team captain Tracy Shepphard netting himself 7 goals. Christopher Tennant scored 5 goals, Sean Barish 3, midfielders Leonard Fisher and Achmed Dejagah 2 apiece, and defender Marcus Warrick 1. Nobody was quite sure what Warrick was doing so far upfield, but the goal by the defender was a testament to how miserably Menukten played.

Menukten was only able to answer the Dragons with four goals of their own, scored by Black Fox, who netted himself 3, and Leaf-on-the-Wind. Goalie Crooked Leg purportedly was noted for crying tears of frustration during the game, as shot after shot passed her into the net.

The loss should not come as a surprise, as Cosumar is the highest ranked team in Menukten's group, a group the Cosumarites themselves have dubbed "The Group of Death." The Group has certainly done a good job of killing off Menukten's aspirations to remain competitive in the tournament.

Menukten will be playing unranked Super-LLamaland tomorrow and it is hoped that the squonks will have better luck.

Menukten has always prided itself at being good a lacrosse, the de facto national sport. However the WLC may just confirm Menukten's worst fears: that while Menukten is home to the multiverse's most intense lacrosse league in the Supaligwa, it may turn out in the end that Menukten is only good at its own type of lacrosse, and nobody else's.

"Twenty to four, wow"
"No, it's barely a hundred ASZ."
"I was talking about the lacrosse score, idiot. Not the time."
"Oh, is that good?"
"Think so. It's sounds it."
"Cool. What's lacrosse?"

That little excerpt probably didn't make a lot of sense. Specifically 'barely a hundred ASZ'. It's a common problem amongst those not used to the Paradystopi way of life. You see, we decided a long time ago that time shouldn't be quantified so rigorously and people should adopt a more flexible approach to the passage of time. Allow me to elucidate.

Minutes are still used, as are all measurements shorter than this. Hours and longer, well, we know about them but prefer not to use them. Anyone familiar with our currency will know of our penchant for large numbers and standard index form, time is no different. Tell a Paradystopi 'five hours and twenty minutes' and they'll have to work it out for a moment, tell them 'three hundred and twenty minutes' and they'll understand better. 'Three point two (times ten)* to the two' and now you're just showing off but well on your way to embracing true Paradystopi behaviour.

There is no defined length of a day in Paradystopia. Just three fluid points which you work from. Sunrise, Sunset and Sun's Zenith. Apply 'P' for 'prior to' or 'A' for 'after' and you have such initialisations as PSS; prior to sunset, PSR; prior to sunrise and ASZ; after the sun's zenith. So ASZ is basically our way of saying 'pm' or times after 12:00 for those using twenty-four hour clocks. 'Barely a hundred ASZ' therefore, is coming up to 1:40pm or 13:40. Early afternoon. 'A' is used more often, as when you're saying 'prior to', you're obviously guessing.

Naturally, this is pretty confusing for most people and others can get very anxious when they're so used to a conventional clock system. Recently, the Paradystopi foreign office installed a talking clock phoneline which troubled tourists could call should Paradystopia's seemingly antichronometrological persuasion become too much. This does work in reserve also when Paradystopi travellers find themselves suffering an ailment termed 'Temporiphobia', being unaccustomed to the rigorous quantification of time in other countries and showing an instinctive aversion to clocks.

So when you happen to next ask a Paradystopi the time and they answer 'Dinnertime' and shrug, please keep this in mind. They aren't purposefully being awkward, it's just the way we are.

Thank you.

* As 'times ten to the' is common practice in standard index form, it is often dropped but you can assume it is always implied.

New North Aqmuland beat The Tidal Wake by 10 points on Day 1 of WLC. Britonisea did not do that well with Jectaria, as we only beat them by 4 points. Britonisea is currently 3rd in the league table but, How come Thatius, who is in our group for Handball, is 4th yet they have only played one game.

Estope Lacrosse Continues to Dominate
Group D Scores:
Paradystopia 20–4 Itanpavia
Estope 17–6 Darvale
Socialist Tibet 9–11 Darus

The Estope Lacrosse team once again dominated in their opponent here in the Group Play of WLC 18. Facing off against Darvale, who actually does have a full team despite rumors, Estope was able to score 17 goals and win by an 11 point margin. Once again the scoring came from all around. Alex Cotter was once again able to control the pace of the game and had a strong offensive showing, netting six goals for the second striaght game to bring his tournament total to twelve. Westy Gilmartin recorded three more goals and John Ripp got two. Will Brenneman and Tyler Corrigan each also got one more goal. Off the bench, Eddy Kelly and Jim O'Hara each scored a goal while Nick Perkovic scored two. Through these first two games the offense has looked extremely impressive, even unstoppable at times. Of course there has been no competition at all through these first two games. That level likely will not increase tomorrow against Itanpavia. Today, Paradystopia thrashed them by a score of 20-4.

WLC 18 Match Day 2 Report - by Jim Nair - Electrum Half-weekly Sports Magazine

Electrum plummeted down from 2nd to 5th place after a loss to first ranked team Mytannion. Although we are unsure as to who scored on the Mytannion side, the Centralis University team will need to follow up with as many wins as possible to get into the top 3, where a spot will surely be secured for them.

The next opponents they will face are: The Licentian Isles, the unranked Anantas, a bye, the unranked Maynilastan and finally Jeckland. It is absolutely pivotal that Electrum nabs wins over Jeckland and The Licentian Isles to secure a spot in the finals. Although we are unsure as to how the finals spots will be decided, there are 5 groups and only 16 places.

The Mytannion team had a triumphant display over Electrum, winning comfortably 13-4. Their play was more coherent, refined and at the end of the day, more skillful. The best player of the match was Jason Zhong as he managed to score 3 of Electrum's goals. Captain Louis Stephens and the other midfielders quite simply lost control of the midfield game, and from then on it became downhill as Mytannion had more and more opportunities to convert and score. The turnover rate was especially high -- and that will be something the Electrum team will be looking to improve on.

The match however, was interrupted halfway through the second quarter as a streaker from the field ran across and tried to hug Prof. Parks. Professor Parks managed to escape without being touched before the Andition authorities managed to tackle the streaker. It was quite a shock to the team and this also led to more points being conceded as the defenders lost morale as a result. It was later revealed that the streaker was Mytannion-ian. Professor Parks said this at the end of the match: "What simply unrefined creatures. I assure you that I have played with the utmost integrity, even if a nude gentleman tried to harass me in the most inappropriate of ways. I do not care for these distractions. Now if you excuse me, I must use my mobile telephony and buy some paintings. There's a gorgeous Newman piece that is all red and a green line down the middle. It might cost a few million, but it's worth it for such a timeless piece......."

Day 3 Results

It seems as though the communication specialist union has come to momentary terms with the Anditon government. Leader Loftus McGubGub has stated that though the peace has been reached between the workers and their employers, the terms are only tentative and shaky at best.

Day 3 of the 18th World Lacrosse Championships was not lacking for excitement. In one of the more boring games of the tournament as of yet, #1 ranked Mytannion defeated Maynilastan in a rare shutout (20-0). Unolia continued to dominate Group B in a defensive battle while the Northern Sunrise Islands upset previously surging Patistan. In the battle of host and previous host, Anditia narrowly defeated The Sarian while Cosumar continued to show their dominance over other teams by defeating Estenia 20-6. In the upset of the week, Paradystopia lost their first of the tournament to Nassau-Hessen in a nail-biter. Finally, in the most balanced of all groupings, Jectaria was able to surprise Costa de Ouro and Thatius earned their first win of the tournament over Darmen.

As a reminder, the top two in each bracket will automatically qualify for the round of 16. The final six spots will be determined by wild-card with record counting as first tie-break, point-differential as second and finally goals for as third. In the case that there are more ties, a single game playoff will occur.

UNITV Interview with Louis Stephens Transcript

Tim Grenada: Welcome to Centralis University's UNITV coverage of World Lacrosse Championships 18, and were are here with the post-match review with 21-year-old and Bachelor of Arts/Law student Louis Stephens. We talk to them via conference call after their loss in Anditia against The Licentian Isles, where they lost 9-17.

Louis Stephens: How do you do Tim?

Tim Grenada: Great thanks. So, let's get on with the match that you just played. An experienced team against an up and coming team, what thoughts were you feeling when you came into the match?

Louis Stephens: So quite obviously we were in a high at the moment when we beat Chiata, ranked 34 in the world.. but then we really lost our way against the Champs Mytannion. So it was a mixture of both, the Licentian Isles are number 13 in the world... it's just so tough having three seeds in a row to go up against. So anyways, our thoughts were we needed to play a good, solid game and fix up our midfielding. Dr. Stephen Farmer was a bit slow today, but nonetheless it was a valiant effort.

Tim Grenada: Regardless, we think that you did an excellent job going up against the world greats in the WLC. Just tell me really briefly how you got to travel all the way to Anditia for a World Championship?

Louis Stephens: It really was a mixture of luck and skill I guess.. haha. There isn't that much support or a governing body for Lacrosse in Electrum so we just decided to fax our form in and hope for the best. Anditia of course accepted our form and all that was left was to fundraise. We did a couple of things to raise some money such as doing a fun run, begging our parents for money, etc. But it really is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Tim Grenada: Mmm. And your thoughts on the streaker just two days ago?

Louis Stephens: Sorry, no comment there, we aren't allowed to talk about it, but Mytannion were already winning by a huge amount before it happened so it didn't really amount to anything at the moment. I feel sorry for Professor Parks though, being bashed on like that. She did like that article you wrote about her though, makes her feel, in her words: "sophisticated and I am glad people all around the campus will want to try for a humanities subject."

Tim Grenada: So let's actually talk about the match with The Licentian Isles. How did it go from your perspective?

Louis Stephens: From my point of view, we played a good match. We are a debutee against a ranked team so we knew it was going to be a hard effort, but today was all about minimizing the difference in scores. In the end, it was a high scoring affair anyways so the margins were the same. But we just hope to grab enough points in winning against Anantas, Jeckland and Maynilastan to score one of those spots. Though, we don't even know about any of these teams! All we have information on is just Jeckland.

Tim Grenada: Speaking of the other teams, coming up next is Anantas. Your thoughts?

Louis Stephens: Hmm. They did manage to tie with Mytannion on the first day, but I think it was because Mytannion was jetlagged. It's going to be a really close match regardless as it's two teams who are unranked, fighting it out for some more points. As usual, I can't speculate as to the certainty of us winning, but we are confident.

Tim Grenada: And thank you Louis for that interview. That's Louis in Anditia, representing the Centralis University Hawks and Electrum in Anditia. Come join us tomorrow morning in the UniPub to watch Electrum's match against Anantas.

Dear hubby,

Our twelve point victory over Super-Llamaland today was sweet and a vindication that Menukten is, as ever squonk in the multiverse believes, good at lacrosse. Yancey found the net in the second minute and we just charged on from there. Super-Llamaland's defense opened up like a sieve and we put ball after ball into the net, while Super-Llamaland ran around like a kid whose favorite toy has been stolen. Super-Llamaland was extremely weak behind the crease, with the goalie frequently confused as to where the ball was if it was behind him. Once we figured out this weakness we exploited it and let them have it.

Of course they scored their own goals as well, and they have very good players for attackers. But Ameilia, Emory and Yoric are good defenders and they helped me greatly to minimize the danger and damage from Super-Llamaland's attack force.

Next we will be playing The Royal Kingdom of Quebec, currently ranked 10. You might think we are in for another blow out, but the team is having a remarkably poor WLC so far, losing to unranked Super-Llamaland, who we just beat. Their loss to Cosumar is no surprise as well, but it is their weak showing against Super-Llamaland that gives us hope. If we play as well as we did yesterday we will be able to best the seeded team, I believe.

I don't want you to worry about me. The reports are true, I did cry during the Cosumar game. But I'm over that now and more confident. We can make a good showing in this tournament I believe. We just have to have faith in ourselves and respect the game. And then the Creator should award us with victory.

The country here in Anditia is beautiful, the cities alive, and the restaurants perfectly able and willing to cater to our vegetarian needs. Everybody is kind and curious about us. I don't think many of the Anditian's have seen squonks before. I caught a little boy trying to unravel my wrapping to see if squonks are really as ugly as is rumored, but his mother stopped him, admonished him and then invited me over to supper. She plays first violin in the local orchestra and treated me to a little private recital! Her music was beautiful, full of sorrow, yet robust in strength. It reminded me of when we used to live at the tunes, how the sand would feel under your feet, and the crabs would scuttle back into the ocean at low tide. I'm having a great time, but I miss you and Roderick.

Say hello for me to everyone. I know you guys are cheering me on! Just thinking about you gives me heart and makes me play better.

I love you and hopefully I will have good news the next time I write.

Hugs and Kisses,

Emma

SPUDS BEAT CHIATA IN THRILLER

In a thrilling game of lacrosse, Jeckland defeated Chiata 19-13 to maintain their 100% record. Neither team was holding back and both played aggressively from the off, with a close first quarter ending 5-4 in our favour. Chiata got two quick goals at the start of the second quarter, but Jeckland really turned on the style and ended the half 10-6 up. However, Chiata didn't roll over and fought back, to within one point at one stage, leaving a 15-11 scoreline after a crazy quarter. The Spuds then closed out the game in the fourth with ease, putting the score to the final one of 19-13 and leaving the table like this.

Group A Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Mytannion 3 2 1 0 42 13 +29 7
2 Jeckland 2 2 0 0 34 20 +14 6
3 The Licentian Isles 2 2 0 0 33 22 +11 6
4 Chiata 3 1 0 2 42 37 +5 3
5 Electrum 3 1 0 2 25 41 −16 3
6 Anantas 2 0 1 1 22 25 −3 1
7 Maynilastan 3 0 0 3 13 53 −40 0

So Jeckland sit in an impressive second despite the fact they have played one game less. It looks as if this could be a tournament to remember for The Spuds.

BRITIONISEAN REPORTER: SANE OR NOT?

A most strange report came out of the Britiosean media yesterday claiming this nation was an 'offspring' of Jeckland. It also called Costa De Ouro an 'offspring' of Ceni and claimed Thatius were in 4th when they were in 5th. Now, we don't know if they think that nations get funky with each other and have baby nations in Britionisea or what, but this report certainly confuses, to say the least. The day after it was published Jecatria claimed it's maiden lacrosse victory over the other offspring nation.

Day 4 Results

Another thrilling day of competition in WLC 18. Mytannion continued their dominance over the rest of Group A by controlling Jeckland. The Licentian Isles continue to do well with their 3rd win. Not to be shown up by their Group A counterpart, Unolia sent Mytannion a message by defeating Patistan by a dominant 21 points to claim their 4th win. The host nation lost despite a large home crowd in a low-scoring defensive match against Cosumar (9-5). The Royal Kingdom of Quebec's woes continued as they were only able to muster 2 points in their loss to Menukten. Group D was awash with lopsided affairs as all teams won by at least 6 points. Finally, Britonisea maintained their lead over Group E with a 13-8 win over The Tidal Wake.

With three match days left in WLC 18, it must be noted that no teams have officially clinched a place in the finals as of yet, though a number of teams have been eliminated from future contention. Those are noted with a "-" in the results below.

Dear hubby,

A fourteen point win over tenth ranked Kingdom of Quebec! Granted, Quebec is having a horribly tournament, but we expected a close game, not a blow out! Cosumarite predictions of our group shaping up according to rank have turned out to be a lie. The victory has really fired us up! We have real hopes of qualifying now, if we beat Estenia two days from now, which we will, and then Anditia.

We have tomorrow off, so we will be taking the time to train in the morning. In the afternoon I'm planning to visit my friend who I told you about earlier. Her name is Laura. She's gonna show me around Orodun. She said all the museums are free on Sundays, and that I would like the Metropolitan Museum of Natural History. I'm really looking forward to some peace and quiet, and some time with an eager local.

Hugs and Kisses,

Emma

REALITY CHECK

The might of Mytannion proved too much for The Spuds as they capitulated 23-7. The first quarter was reasonably tight, with Mytannion coming out 4-2 ahead after a sturdy defensive performance. The second quarter was a massacre. Nine goals without reply. The Spuds were shellshocked by the sheer brilliance of the champions, who led 13-2 into the break. They continued their dominance in the third, but Jeckland nicked a couple of goals back, making it 20-4. The last quarter was quiet, Jeckland finally gaining the upper hand as Mytannion began to wind down. The final score was 23-7, and the loss left the table like so.

Group A Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Mytannion 4 3 1 0 65 20 +45 10
2 The Licentian Isles 3 3 0 0 38 26 +12 9
3 Jeckland 3 2 0 1 41 43 −2 6
4 Electrum 4 2 0 2 39 50 −11 6
5 Chiata 3 1 0 2 42 37 +5 3
6 Anantas 3 0 1 2 31 39 −8 1
7 Maynilastan 4 0 0 4 17 58 −41 0

Red indicates elimination

With The Spuds having three left to play, they look in a strong position. Mytannion and The Licentian Isles should be safe, but we could sneak into the final 16.

Once again, Mytannion displayed why they rank #1 overall in the world defeating Chiata to clinch their spot in the round of 16. Jeckland was able to defeat [b]The Licentian Isles to make the second spot in the playoffs from Group A more interesting. Group B was clinched as Unolia defeated Northern Sunrise Islands. Cosumar clinched the first playoff spot in Group C with a tie with The Sarian. An additional playoff spot was claimed by Estope in Group D with a win over Paradystopia. Group E has become a four horse race between Thatius, Darmen, Britonisea and Costa de Ouro who are all within grasp of the two playoff spots guaranteed to the group. Good luck to all of those who have qualified and all of those who have not.

Gasping for Air - by Jim Nair - Electrum Half-weekly Sports Magazine

Electrum has now secured fourth position after leapfrogging Chiata. What remains above Electrum is Jeckland, the Licentian Isles and Mytannion. Mytannion has already been guaranteed a position in the Round of 16 after winning all of their games thus far, except for their draw on the first day of competition. To remain afloat and to get as high up as possible, Electrum will need to secure as many victories as possible. Ideally speaking, Electrum has a low chance of directly making to the Round of 16, but Electrum will still need to be as high as possible to nab a playoff spot. The next two matches against Maynilastan and Jeckland will be critical in determining who gets the playoff spot.

Tomorrow, Electrum will face Maynilastan, Jeckland against Anantas and The Licentian Isles against Chiata. The day after will see Jeckland against Electrum, The Licentian Isles against Mytannion and Anantas against Chiata. Looking at the table, an ideal situation would be for Electrum to win all of it's matches and for The Licentian Isles to lose to either/both of Chiata and Mytannion, the two seeds they haven't gone up against. This means that Electrum will go up against Jeckland on goal differential to see who nabs the playoff and who nabs direct entry. We would expect Jeckland to win out on goal differential as there is already a gap of 14 between them. Chiata will also need to lose one of their matches as well.

These next two days will be crucial and the matches will need to line up correctly in order for Electrum to advance. Louis Stephens, captain of the Electrum team, after their win against Anantas yesterday, said that: "We are really, really happy with the result, and we hope we can smash Maynilastan in the same fashion as well." Anantas, Electrum and Maynilastan were all of the new teams that joined the competition and were competing against each other to gain a good ranking for the next WLC, it seems like here Electrum's Centralis University team is in the lead and hopefully we will also see them next time.

REARGUARD ACTION PROVIDES MEMORABLE SPUDS VICTORY

Jeckland surprised the multiverse today, defeating a strong Licentian Isles team without conceding in the second half of the match. The first quarter saw only three goals as both teams were cautious out of the blocks. but the opponents edged it 2-1. The next quarter was nip and tuck, but the Licentians were 6-4 up at half time. They wouldn't score again, as The Spuds put three past in the third and four in the fourth to win 11-6. There were jubilant scenes as the game ended, leaving the table looking very interesting.

Group A Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Mytannion 5 4 1 0 83 20 +63 13
2 The Licentian Isles 4 3 0 1 44 37 +7 9
3 Jeckland 4 3 0 1 52 49 +3 9
4 Electrum 4 2 0 2 39 50 −11 6

6 Maynilastan 5 1 0 4 30 63 −33 3
7 Anantas 4 0 1 3 36 52 −16 1

Mytannion are through, Maynalistan and Anantas are out. The Licentian Isles only hold us off on goal difference, with Electrum three points behind. Chiata are all but mathematically out.

Hessen Need To Jump At Opportunity
Good Start, Important Game Incoming, Clinch In Sight

After all of the crap and s*** the Eagles had to go through so far in the group stage (yes, we are all looking at you Paradystopis, we still don't know what drugs you're on) it finally seems that the Hessen may finally earn a well deserved break, that is, if they win a crucial second to last game against the lower placed but upcoming Darus.

The Hessen have seemed to never be able to pull away from an opponent. Despite both consistency and an ability to finish, the Eagles never have really seemed to fully pull away from their opponents, regardless of skill level. Why does this happen you ask? Some say it may be the pretty Anditian natives distracting them, others may say it is due to a lack of focus, and still others (mostly conspiracists) may say that it was directly caused by unknown aliens. Whether any of the theories are true or not, the Eagles seem to be able to get along with it.

The Eagles started off the tournament with a narrow win with late game heroic Anthony B. Reyes. After a bye, the Eagles experienced the most difficult two group stretch of the phase. The game against the Paradystopia Derps was a traumatic experience. The only things the team shared about the game was that it was incredibly awkward and some Paradystopi had sex on the middle of the field at one point. Only the spectators know what happened in the non televised game. The game against Estope was a brave one, but it ultimately ended in a loss by four. In the most recent game, Nassau took care of business against the Socialist Tibetans, by a comfortable margin of 12-9 with Stephen V. McGin and sensational Kevin D. Kibler with hat tricks and a great game by Allan D. Bowling.

The next game will be crucial for the Eagles, a loss would be absolutely horrid for their standings, much to the contrary, a win will secure a playoff spot. Darus isn't at all formidable, but seemingly dangerous. It will be a huge factor in their future of the tournament.

Estope reigns as both undefeated and leader of a division, having the first spot clinched, they can rest assured. Darvale has nothing left to play for except for a win. Socialist Tibet is extremely unlikely to go any further, the Eagles have already just about automatically finished over them. The same story goes to Itanpavia, whom is less of a long shot, but Nassau already has an advantage over them and cannot finish underneath them. Paradystopia and Darus are the biggest threats right now, however they play each other, which gives Nassau a huge advantage over them because one of them cannot win both games. Nassau is in a very favorable position, but all of that can change.

Well, a new day dawns, and with it we get...us in second place. We lost to Menukten, sure, but beating top-ten Quebec and hosts Anditia? Noice!

Anyways, what's more surprising than that is...nobody's playing. I'm serious here. We got the highlight footage of our players. Nobody there. I'm not kidding. However, there is one person playing, and I know that for sure. He is Tam Blayman, the Second-Most Interesting Man in the World.

Blayman's an eccentric sort. He built a giant machine to control every stadium in Anditia. He set up clear domes when nobody was looking. He programmed them to release prodigious gusts of air when he tapped certain buttons. And he did this in a random programming language he invented. All in the name of fun. That's how Blayman rolls.

You can guess what happened next. Here are some transcripts.

<19:44> <Blayman> <sudsbery pill-force a>
Blayman has access to the command port
<20:06> <Blayman> <gust 16 54 m s>

<20:08> <Blayman> <gust 60 212 f ms>

Thus the Llamas scored two goals.

Blayman was unable for comment. The phenomenon also explained why Quebecois had ran into invisible walls and fell down a few games back.

Day 6 Results

In another exciting round of play, it looks as though there were no more sure-locks with a number of team still in contention for a playoff spot either through automatic qualification (top 2 in group) or through alternative methods (Wild Card). Most of the action was the elimination of a number of teams from qualification for the playoffs. There is still one more day of Group play.

THIS JUST GOT INTERESTING

Jeckland took advantage of another Licentian Isles slip-up to move second with a 10-7 win over Anantas. With the Licentian Isles losing to Chiata, and Mytannion not playing, The Spuds moved to within a point off the top spot. Anantas, who surprised Mytannion earlier with a draw, starting brightly and Jeckland were left reeling at 4-2 after the first quarter. The Spuds carefully played their way back in, maintaining good defence so as not to increase the deficit further. They were 5-4 up at half time. This was soon 7-4, but the defence lost concentration and conceded three quick goals to level the scores. It was another tight quarter, but Jeckland scored three without reply. 10-7.

Group A
The Licentian Isles 5–10 Chiata
Anantas 7–10 Jeckland
Electrum 17–11 Maynilastan

Group A Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Mytannion 5 4 1 0 83 20 +63 13
2 Jeckland 5 4 0 1 62 56 +6 12
3 The Licentian Isles 5 3 0 2 49 47 +2 9
4 Electrum 5 3 0 2 56 61 −5 9
5 Chiata 5 2 0 3 52 60 −8 6
6 Maynilastan 6 1 0 5 41 80 −39 3
7 Anantas 5 0 1 4 43 62 −19 1

Mytannion's lead is whittled down to one by Jeckland, who guarantee a playoff spot with a draw against Electrum. Them and the Licentian Isles are three points off and ready to capitalise on a loss by us. The remaining three are out of it.

Dear hubby,

With only four teams still in the running for the qualifier in our group, and Cosumar already winning a seat, today we need to prove to the world that we are round of 16 material with a win over hosts Anditia. We have high hopes for tonight's game, coming from an expected win against Estenia, and, before them, a win over current 2nd place groupmates Super-Llamaland. Super-Llamaland themselves defeated Anditia and it is with hope that we will try to match their performance, having proved ourselves the better team. With a firm belief that Super-Llamaland's pneumatic gameplay should not be allowed on the field, we will win tonight's game and pass them up for the round of 16.

Of course, all our hopes depend on Super-Llamaland's loss today to 6th ranked Cosumar, which we can pretty much count on. Nobody in our group can match the Dragons. Even a draw against Cosumar would not be disastrous for our qualification hopes, if we can secure our win over the hosts. But if, by some miracle, Super-Llamaland defeats Cosumar, then I suppose they deserve their round of 16 berth. They'll have to play without the mechanical wind machines, however, as some of our boys have planned a surprise for the abomination. But don't tell anybody your heard that.

Well, wish me luck!

Loves and kisses,

Emma
