Your reading of the Guardian makes your opinion of the Daily Mail irrelevant.

I don't read it on a regular basis. This is off the free articles it lets you mooch off the internet for free every now and then. If I'm looking for news I go to the BBC. The guardian, as I pointed out, is for updating and/or expanding any views I have on feminism :P Sometimes I agree, sometimes they go too far and I disagree. It helps to know where I stand on the issue.

I've tried the same with things like the daily mail, but it just ends up frustrating me with it's vitriol, anti-EU stance and opinion on immigrants and immigration in general.

Anyway, back onto topic.

Don't let the Italians build it, though. We couldn't even manage to make one between Sicily and Calabria.

You guys can't even make a decent train, face it.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure it was the Romans who build a bridge with ships across the Mediterranean.

Italy's government should do something to make sure the migrants come to Italy in safer ways. Using boats is dangerous, so Italy should help ensure that migrants don't have to put their lives at risk so they can have a better life in Italy.

If that's the case, we may as well lock the thread. I don't see much point in discussing the effects of 600,000 migrants who don't actually exist and somehow falsely interpreting what these effects from non-existent migrants really are.

No. It's either Daily Mail, blogs reposting the Daily Mail, or this very thread (funnily enough).

I'm sure many of them would rather live in an improved version of their own country. Individuals have very little bargaining power when it comes to how their country is run, for the most part. Most people have their hands full looking after themselves and their family as well.

They can work, work, strive and make their country better. Italy is not an "improved version" of their own country.

That's certainly not easy, especially if you're not an important person in those nations. It's easier for them to come to Italy, and we can see that they really want to, as they risk their lives to get to Italy. Why should we hate on people that would risk their life to go to a country?

I suggested a bridge, but it wasn't really serious.

Not to mention, any real change isn't going to be a wax-on wax-off thing like migrating to another country is in comparison. People can either wait decades for their country to improve, or they can move to another country.

It's extremely difficult for one individual. Most people would rather go somewhere where life is already good, to help not only themselves, but their families.
