Cộng Hòa Stadium
Head Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc was pushing them harder than ever. He wanted his team to be ready for World Cup 68. He knew other countries had very good players and for the team to win, they must be well trained. He had Danny Graves defend the goal, while Le Phoc Tu, Le Huynh Duc, Le Tan Tai were trying to score a goal in the goal net. He did this because there would be times in the matches where Graves would be all alone, defending the goal.

Group 18
The Inevitable Syndicate(10)
Astograth(35)
The Royal Barangay(72)
Carialus(110)
Star United States(133)
New South Aqmuland(238)
Aritian(UR)
New Mumford(UR)

Preview
The Inevitable Syndicate(10)
The Inevitable Syndicate remains the top team in our group, with a top notch ranking of tenth in the universe, quite impressive. They will definitely contend for the top spot in the group, and it would likely take quite the fall for them to slip out, given that the top three qualify for at least a playoff spot. They will remain the top challenger in the group, and it is very unlikely that we come off with a win in either of our contests with them, on match days 6 and 13.
Predicted Finish: 1st

Astograth(35)
Another strong team, and the provider of our kits. Ranked 35th, Astograth is just under half that of The Royal Barangay's ranking, which shows the drop offs in this group. Another strong contender for the top spot, unless TRB manages to pull off some upsets. Likely to advance, and will probably best us at least once. We take them on in Astograth on the final match day, 14, and they visit us on match day 7.
Predicted Finish: 3rd

The Royal Barangay(72)
Formerly Sangti, the team now coming to this World Cup as The Royal Barangay remains a strong force for any team to reckon with. As the next team down the line is over thirty spots back, it would take, much like with Astograth, a few upsets to actually see one of the top three teams eliminated. However, a strong showing by a bottom half team could see TRB on their heads. That is unlikely, though, and so we stick with the prediction that they take one from us, but I think we could snag a point out of our matches with them, on match days 1 and 8. We broadcast their game against us tomorrow night in TRB on NSAS.
Predicted Finish: 2nd

Carialus(110)
A bit of an unknown to us, Carialus remains the fourth ranked team in the group, and will likely hold that or drop lower. We do not expect any higher than third in the group for this team, and it would be quite the shock if they were to outperform that by a wide margin. They are ranked 110th, though, so they are obviously pretty strong. We don't really have a lot to say about this team, in general. We think that we can get at least three points from them on match days 2 and 9.
Predicted Finish: 5th

Star United States(133)
As participants in the same group last Cup as our neighbors to the north, we know that this team is decent, for sure, and could probably do some serious damage if they wanted. They will be a team to watch out for, and they are our upset pick to advance. Of course, getting to the World Cup is unlikely, but the Weegies beat PIS last cycle, so nothing is out of reach. We get two points from them, drawing both our matches on days 3 and 10.
Predicted Finish: 4th

New South Aqmuland(238)
Oh, look, it's us. Well, we're coming in ahead of two teams, with a ranking of 238th after a strong Baptism of Fire in which we were barred from the playoffs by goal differential and head to head record. This team has quite a bit of potential, and I think a few upsets await. We have some good young talent, and this is going to be a nice way to put ourselves on the board in international competition.
Predicted Finish: 6th

Aritian(UR) and New Mumford(UR)
These two got together because I don't know much about them, so I wasn't about to waste a lot of space rambling on twice about the same things. Six points for both of these team, I think.
Predicted Finish: 7th/8th

WORLD CUP PREVIEW

by Kevin Gallant

Thank you for taking the time and effort required to find where the links to soccer were on this website amid all the college basketball hoopla, and having a desire to read this article. The world's greatest sporting tournament is about to kick off again, and unfortunately yes, I reference the tournament known to most Kinzite as "That popular soccer tournament the world seems to love that pops up every two years." At least the reaction towards it is a little better this time around, and we hope that is because the Wildcats had a slight level of success in World Cup 67 qualifying. This tournament is going to be a little different, with a more complicated tournament format then the last one. If you're a nation like Kinzar, this is a good format for you, but if you are one of the top nations in the world, you might not like it.

Things you should know about this tournament are: There are 24 groups, and each of the top three teams per group advance to a level of post-season play. As a fourth seed , it is a reasonable goal for Kinzar to have to reach this stage. The tournament is hosted by Legalese and Free Republics, half of which was part of the losing host bid for World Cup 67 (Legalese). The other half, Free Republics, tends to align itself closely with the other half of the losing bid, from Saintland. That is until the incident of a Saintland king being assassinated during the World Bowl in the Free Republics. I'd have to follow the "international politics" section of the news better to know what has come of that. Kinzar is in Group 20, and the group's top seed is The Archregimancy, which will certainly get the interest of our fans. Let's take a look at the group:

The Archregimancy: Everyone will expect them to win the group. It's not going to be the same as having the defending champions in our group as we did last year, but there is a lot of entertainment value in watching these guys play. Reportedly, they have a very long national anthem and Kinzite officials may request them to play a shorter anthem which can represent the nation before all the fans that actually attend the game at Hudson Stadium, leave the game, due to the length. The overly religious Kinzite though should make a point of attending the match.

German American States: They are like the group's New Sideburn, the newer nation that seems on the verge of longer term success. We think that having the name "American" in the country name serves as a jinx for its national soccer team, however.

Chiata: Similar in rank, but they've been at it a little longer then us. This becomes Kinzar's top rival in this group, since the top two are likely to advance to the post-qualifying stage. It seems attainable, and as such, the goal of the tournament for the Wildcats: keeping these guys "running" to that cup they formed that no one paid attention to.

Glaser: A nation that we don't know a whole lot about, but could play spoiler. We noticed something on a national press release: they're excited about a horse racing season beginning and seem to enjoy betting. Looks like our nations have something big in common!

Perlasilangan: Made the round of 16 in the Baptism of Fire, and found themselves eliminated on penalty kicks. Ouch!

Neuereland: Indeed it is a Newerland.

Landpolis: Six points. Or else.

THE RAMPANT WALRUS RUNNERS UP IN HANNIBAL INVITATIONAL
By Chief Sports Writer Nicholas McGrant

Hopes are high in the Nouvel Ecosse fans after what is seen as a successful tournament, where the side topped their group before losing in the final to qualification candidates Neu Engollon. Despite a few hiccups, most notably the 1-1 draw with minnows Some Village, manager Pierre Mossebien is rather optimistic about his side's chances in the upcoming qualification run.

Speaking to reporters outside the national sides training complex in the Altnordisch mountains, Mossebien revealed exactly why his confidence is so sky high. "To me, the vital victory over Agrincourt followed by the semi-final win against Costa de Oura proved that our side is finally gelling as it should, that they have developed a resilience to the outside pressures."

This resilience will be especially important, with the hopes and dreams of so many uprooted Ecossian civilians resting on their backs, hoping for one ray of sunshine. With much of the South-East of the country now evacuated as war looms and tensions between the Ecossians and the Yellosians escalate, there are hundreds of thousands now living in temporary villages in safer areas of the country. And the Government plans on setting up large screens to show all the football through the state broadcaster. As President Atticus Moriarty said on a visit to one of these villages, nicknamed "Star Farms" by their residents, "We've had a lot of negativity in the country recently. The football team could really change that. They might not, but a couple of victories would really set spirits up."

Large crowds are expected for the home games in the upcoming qualification, especially considering the location of the fixtures. Culloden, the stadium set to host all home games, has a capacity of 98,000, and is in a much more central position in relation to the rest of the country than Embassy Park in Edinburgh. According to the NECFA, most tickets have already been sold for the upcoming home games, and away tickets are going even faster as punters search for a holiday away.

Nouvel Ecosse began the Hannibal Invitational with a 3-2 victory over late entrants Terres Des Gaules, thanks to goals from Curt LaFleur, Leandro Cardoza and Logan Malloch. LaFleur and Cardoza are two of the national sides real stars, and are expected to pull off big things against the opposition. Cardoza was one of only a few to play for a foreign side, where he is a captain, and came to prominence after Mossebien promoted him to the first team following Norrie Stewart's sacking. He was immediately a godsend, racking up numerous goals in what were outstanding performances.

LaFleur, on the other hand, is one of the famous LaFleur brothers, with one a professional cyclist and member of the Attico's-BDI cycling side and the other a top domestic tennis player, although he is yet to follow Chiellini's footsteps internationally. LaFleur has had many big games for the national side ever since his coming of age in the Baptism of Fire 52, where he was a real star.

Who knows if the national side can replicate what they did in the Hannibal Invitational?

"I've been going around delegates for the last hour. It's useless!"

"Same here. They either don't remember World Cup 57, don't remember one team that finished bottom of a qualifying group for World Cup 57 or they don't want to know."

"How are we ever going to ever get anywhere with this?"

"Why does it even matter?"

"Because someone, somewhere claimed to be us. And it wasn't us."

"Ah. That makes sense."

Tony and Benny were interrupted by their coach.

"Tony, Benny - stop worrying about it. I'm sure we'll find out that there was a simple explanation for it. The truth usually comes out in the end."

"I guess so, Dad."

"Call me coach. We're on official business here."

"Sorry, coach."

"Now, we're here to see who we are to be drawn against for qualifying. Remember, we might not know a lot about all of the nations in the draw, but a look at the world rankings shows that we are... well, we are not on the world rankings. So, whoever we are drawn against, we must show them the upmost respect, as they will all be expected to beat us."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"I'm Jenny Jones..."

"...and I'm Kevin Smith..."

"...and welcome to Sound of the Sloths! We're in Free Republics..."

"I thought we were in Legalese?"

"No, this is Free Republics."

"Oh. And which three republics are these?"

"Free, you dunderhead. As in, freedom and all that shebang."

"Like nations that aren't actually free put into their name to make themselves sound more pleasant?"

"Yes. Except not in this case. They seem to have been more than hospitable to the footballing multiverse, don't you think?"

"Yes they have."

"Now, we're here to look at the World Cup Qualifying draw, in which Schiavonia have been drawn into Group 10. In the group they are the worst ranked team, and it looks like a daunting task for a team that has played three international matches in the last sixty years."

"Yes, but they beat Audioslavia at AOCAF 43 last year."

"Yes, but only because they were pissing themselves with laughter at our kits."

"I still don't get why they did that."

"Because when they lined up, it spelt out "KNOBJOCKEYS"!"

"Ah, so that's what it was! I just thought that they were confused that we were wearing letters and had two Ks."

"No Kev. Anyway, after your imbecilic performance at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony, where you made up facts about the nations involved, the producers have banned you from previewing the teams that the Sloths have drawn for World Cup Qualifying. So, instead, we have the vice-captain of the Schiavonia team, Benny Sanderson. Benny, welcome."

"Thanks, Jenny."

"So, Mytannion are the top seed in the group. Despite not making it to the finals of World Cup 67, they did win the Cup of Harmony in Valanora, as well as being home to some of the better clubs in international club football. That should be a challenge for you."

"Well, Jenny, they're a top 20 team, so they would expect to beat us. Because of that, we will show them the upmost respect."

"Indeed. Then we have Sicoutmont. They made it to World Cup 66, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to qualify last time out."

"Yes, they have qualified recently, so they would be expected to beat us. We must show a team with such a record the upmost respect."

"Brenecia are the third ranked team in the group. After some pretty average qualifying campaigns, they put up a good show last time around, and you would not bet against them attempting to better that even further this time, would you?"

"Of course. They're a good and improving side, and would expect to beat an unranked team like Schiavonia. We'll definitely be showing them the upmost respect."

"Indeed. Fourth seeds are Furellum. They've consistently been excellent at youth football - is this the time when they translate that form to the senior level?"

"Well, with the players that they have been producing, they would more than likely expect to beat a team that are not even ranked. Players that offer a threat like that will be treated with the upmost respect."

"Yes... Now, fifth seeds are Greater Watford. World Cup 67 was their debut qualifying campaign, and they are reckoned by some to have great potential for the future."

"They are. They've got that campaign behind them, so that experience will mean that they are expected to beat a team that have no recent World Cup Qualifying campaigns. It definitely means that they are a team we will be showing the upmost respect to."

"OK... now sixth seeds are Darvale. They were in the recent Baptism of Fire tournament, and were thought by many to have been unlucky in their play-off draw for the latter stages. They are also very keen on many other sports, so we could be expecting a lot in the future from Darvale."

"We could indeed. Their Baptism of Fire performance and fondness of sport means that they will be expected to beat Schiavonia, who have a population of 700 and no Baptism of Fire behind them. A team as eager as that can only be treated with the upmost respect."

"Right... And the other team in the group are Dorado Grande. They picked up just one point at the Baptism of Fire, but have the Forest Gods on their side."

"They do, and I'm sure that most neutral observers would say that having the Forest Gods behind you means that you would be expected to beat a team that doesn't, just as Schiavonia don't. They may not have performed that well at the Baptism of Fire, but they have more ranking points and Gods on their side than we do, to we shall be treating them with the upmost respect."

"U-huh... Oh, and then there's us! Little, unranked Schiavonia!"

"Yes, indeed. But they are a team with World Cup pedigree in the past, and so will definitely be expected to beat us. You really do have to treat an opponent with history like that with the upmost respect."

"Er... that's us, Benny."

"Sorry..."

"That's us. Not an opponent."

"Well, we're unranked and foolish, so many experts will expect us to beat ourselves. But we are professional sportspeople, and will thus treat ourselves with the upmost respect."

"OK, let's move away from the teams. What are your hopes for the tournament?"

"Well, the World Cup is an amazing tournament, the biggest in international sport. It is treated with the upmost respect, though I expect it will be too much for Schiavonia this time around. In that respect, it is definitely expected to beat us."

"And where do you think you will finish in the qualifying group?"

"Well, treating every opponent with the upmost respect, and considering that they will all be expected to beat us, there's only one place I can see us finishing."

"Oh, the pessimism..."

"First."

"First?"

"Yeah, why not?"

"Because all of the other teams are expected to beat you?"

"Well, there is that..."

"And you'll be treating them with the upmost respect?"

"Well, of course. But everyone loves an underdog, don't they?"

"Benny Sanderson, thank you. Well, I have no idea if Benny was being idiotic or sarcastic there. Probably idiotic. But it seems, Kev, that Schiavonia are in a group of teams that are better than them, and will thus be playing without the shackles of the pressure that being better than any of the teams would bring."

"Indeed, Jenny. Anything other than a place in the bottom two could be considered a successful campaign for the Sloths."

"Well, that's it. Full of respect but lacking in expectations, Schiavonia will be going headlong into their World Cup qualifying campaign with an away game against Mytannion, where we will be live bringing you coverage of the game for SIBN. Until that expected mauling, though, it's goodbye from myself and Kevin."

"Bye, everyone."

"And from Benny Sanderson, who seems to be checking out a member of the Cassadaiguan delegation here. I don't think he knows what he's letting himself in for. Anyway, goodbye!"

World Cup Preview
by Javier Johnson, International Sports Correspondent, Lupinia Tribune
johnsonj@lupiniatribune.nw

The Wolfopian International Sports Commission has entered their largest one-sport competition in Wolfpack history, in a sport that the Wolfpack has little international experience in: The World Cup of soccer. The only other international experience New Wolfopolis has in soccer is the Baptism of Fire 55, a cup for nations whose first World Cup is this one, the 68th. The Wolfpack took second in group G, which took place in Paradystopia. After advancing past Costa de Ouro to officially make the playoffs, they lost to Yveltal in the Round of 16. The ranking points that they earned in the tournament were good for Pot 6 in the group draw, which means are better in the rankings than two of the seven other teams in their group. The entry also comes in a tough time internationally for the country, as this is their first major competition they've entered while residing in their new region, Esportiva. Here are quick previews of teams they'll be playing soccer against in the group stage.

Polar Islandstates: The highest-seeded team in the group, PIS currently serves as the head of the World Cup Committee. They are the reigning champions of this competition, and they will assuredly be the team to beat in this group.

Eastfield Lodge: Eastfield Lodge has been around the World Cup for a while now, and they are the second-highest seeded team in the group. They are determined to qualify for the Cup this time, as they failed to do last time.

Qazox: Qazox has been predicted by many to advance out of this group, but morale is low on the team, and the home news coverage is not optimistic. They aren't paying much attention to their own team, and with pessimism on the team and in their press, they may not qualify.

Kazamatsuri: Fourth-ranked team in the group, Kazamatsuri has strong relations with successful football team Mizuyuki, who qualified last time. This team could be a dark horse to qualify, depending on how much support they get from their fans.

Florgania: Florgania is a team no-so-unfamiliar to New Wolfopolis, as they did extremely well in the recent Baptism of Fire, catching many eyes across the world. They were eventually knocked out by Zenic in the final game, but they did extremely well throughout the tournament. They will have to fight to advance, but it's certainly a possibility.

New Wolfopolis: This is us. The sixth-best or third-worst team in the group. We've got some talented players, and we could advance, but it would be extremely difficult. There are some tough teams to overcome, and it won't be easy to advance.

Olastor: Olastor did poorly last Cup, going 0-2-14 in group 9. We don't know how they'll do this time, but we suspect they won't do very well.

Taslantis: Taslantis also participated in the recent Baptism of Fire, but didn't do very well, going 0-4 in the group stage, taking last in group B. They will be an extreme longshot to advance.

So, here are my predictions for the final standings of the group stage.
1 Polar Islandstates
2 Eastfield Lodge
3 Florgania
4 Kazamatsuri
5 New Wolfopolis
6 Qazox
7 Taslantis
8 Olastor

This will be a difficult group for a new nation like us to advance out of. We'll do our best, but I don't see it happening.

All Change. Again.

Blanco Borrayo reports from Soluca;

Over the decades Sargossan football has experienced some turbulent times, although perhaps nothing quite as dramatic as the past two months. It all began right here in the capital as a disappointing home defeat to Hutt River in the Corsairs’ final qualifying match saw a World Cup 67 playoff berth slip agonisingly out of our grasp. The side’s vastly experienced Sorthern boss Iarlaith Mag Aonghusa decided he’d taken the nation as far as he could and announced his resignation at the post match press conference. To maintain some form of continuity Mag Aonghusa’s assistant, Hernán Ojeda was placed in caretaker charge ahead of the Copa Rushmori while the Football Federation of Sargossa (FFS) debated which overpaid foreigner to appoint in the long term.

But a dismal Copa campaign for the top seeds culminated in a hefty defeat against unfancied Irad and an embarrassingly early exit at the group stage. In the wake of which FFS President Enrique Santana handed in his own resignation, to be replaced by his deputy Gustavo Nadal. Nadal’s first order of business was to sack Ojeda and the rest of Iarlaith Mag Aonghusa’s coaching staff. His second was to travel to Torgos where the Pasargan and Sargossan footballing authorities announced a mutual end to the combined Liga de Fuego project. “The consistent rise in attendance numbers has shown the LdF to have been a popular success”, Nadal explained. “But the sheer size of the league meant that in both sporting and financial terms it was simply unsustainable.” And just like that the senior national side had nobody at the helm and the nation’s top tier clubs were devoid of competition.

Since then Nadal has been working very hard, reinstating both the SuperLiga and the Copa Sargossa to ensure a return to normality for the domestic game. He also announced the creation of a new Copa del Islas, in which all the territories of the Republic will field representative sides. The six major islands of the archipelago will be joined by the overseas territories of Santazuela, Costa Azula, Emo, Curamunga, Islas Ominas and West Kűlmsaar to be randomly drawn into two groups of six, with home and away matches played throughout the season. The top two from each group will then advance to a semi-final stage.

With the domestic structure sorted there was still the small matter, with another campaign of World Cup qualifiers looming, of the national side to sort out. But Nadal rose to the challenge again with a very popular decision. Ernesto Farías had been merrily making preparations for Ciudad Soluca’s first campaign back in the bosom of the reformed SuperLiga when he got a call from the FSS. Two days later he was sat alongside Nadal in front of the nation’s media at the Federation’s plush headquarters in Soluca, having signed a two year contract. It was a popular move for the simple reason that Farías is a legend in Sargossan football. As a player he rifled in goals galore in the SuperLiga before earning a prestige move to Cafundéu, competing amongst the very best in what was at that time the greatest league in the multiverse. He also partnered Gastón Batista up front in Sargossa’s very first senior international, scoring the only goal of the game against Nationstates IV at the 34th Baptism of Fire. As a coach he has spent years overseeing the nation’s youth teams, from Olympics down to Under-12s and has enjoyed notable successes in domestic football, most recently at Ciudad. But now in his sixties, and following two previous caretaker spells in charge of the senior side, Farías could probably be forgiven for believing his chance had gone. Happily he was mistaken.

And it’s not just his past exploits that the fans enjoy, Farías cavalier attitude and passion for offensive football has always been pleasing on the eye. In fact the veteran coach’s touchline cry of ‘Attack! Attack! Attack!’ has become something of a trademark, so we know exactly what to expect from his brand of Corsairs. And it’s a new look national side the coach has unveiled as he tries to inject some new blood into the squad. Guillermo Lucena, Cristón Espinal, Federico Cifuentés, Germán Sauseda and Federico Noyola are all exciting prospects who will look to impress in the coming campaign but Farías’ side also boasts an experienced spine upon which hopes will be pinned. Ezequiel Medrán forms the base of that spine with Mauro Fernández marshalling the defence, the midfield pairing of Lucas Ramís and Rodrigo Defederico setting the tempo and the goal hungry Federico Ferreyra leading the line. The new coach certainly has talent available to throw at Group 4.

So to that group and a mixture of challenges old and new. Naturally it’s nigh on impossible to avoid an Atlantian nation in the World Cup and lo and behold here’s Ko-oren. The AO native has shown consistent improvement since their debut prior to World Cup 55 (in which they gave our Pasargan chums a scare) to the extent that they are now the group’s top seeds. The Dragonflies have claimed some notable World Cup scalps over the years (Mytannion, Farfadillis, the Eurans to name a few) and will be particularly focused after missing out on the last tournament. Naturally it’s nigh on impossible to avoid an Rushmori nation in the World Cup and lo and behold here’s Filopines. Amazingly the Apples (or whatever nickname they decide to run with) are a regional neighbour the Corsairs have never actually faced before. A nation adept at the beach variety of football but here in the big boys version of the game they’re coached by a 24 year old woman and their midfield includes a 44 year old bloke so, you know, expectations aren’t exactly through the roof.

And these are the nations to whom the top three places will probably go. But if there were to be a dark horse it could well be The Icemark who narrowly lost home and away to Sargossa during the WC60 campaign before denying the Corsairs a playoff place two years later. And let’s not rule out Mastille (another of those pesky Atlantians) who got all the way to the semis of the recent Baptism of Fire, while Agrincourt warmed up for the qualifiers with a semi-final place of their own at the Hannibal Invitational tournament and if they can get their counter attacking game to work a surprise could possibly be sprung. At the foot of the table North Arabia may not be expected to uproot any trees but their raucous local support will likely make any trip to the Sheikh Omar International Stadium a tricky test. Is that everyone? Oh wait, there’s The Sarian too. They’re Esportivan, probably awful and their defender Isiah Bernard has a face you just want to go at with a shovel.

Group 16
Turori(13)
Svengarda(37)
Gregoryisgodistan(82)
Kericia(96)
New North Aqmuland(143)
The Greater Vakolicci Haven(223)
Arbeitsgemeinschaft Alpenlander(343)
Taijan(365)

Preview
Turori(13)
This team has remained one of the strongest in the universe, holding their ranking of thirteenth proudly. They qualified for the World Cup last time, and did very well. They will likely, along with Svengarda, dominate this group en route to either direct qualification or very near. We would be lucky to get a point from a game with this team. We will face these guys on match days 5 and 12.
Predicted Finish: 1st

Svengarda(37)
We meet Svengarda again, after they were in our group for WC67. We did not get a pint form them then, and things have changed, but that may be something that remains constant. They also qualified for the World Cup last time through, and should be very dangerous still. It will be very interesting to see how we fare against them. I would not say more than three points, even if we are really lucky. We take this team on on match days 6 and 13.
Predicted Finish: 2nd

Gregoryisgodistan(82)
Well, we got these guys. God help us now. In all seriousness, though, they are a good team with a penchant for coming up just a touch short in the big games. They are improving, though, and we should expect a strong showing here. As a matter of fact, this is really where the action gets tight, because there is a drop of about fifty places from second pot to third pot in our group, and then it gets much closer after that. We should see some good action from this team, and could probably seize four to six points if we played well, three at least, and one is we struggle a little. We face off on match days 7 and 14. Just don't say "coconut", boys.
Predicted Finish: 3rd

Kericia(96)
Bit of an unknown, but they are inside the top 100, and will probably be one of those teams that can make or break another team's chance at greatness. I think we can get at least three points here, but, as I've said, they're a bit of an unknown quantity in Margaret's equation. We face them on days 1 and 8. The game tomorrow night will be on NBS.
Predicted Finish: 5th

New North Aqmuland(143)
It's us. Yay. Well, here we are, with an improvement of over 200 positions in the ranking since the last cup and a lot of valuable experience. We've got the same team of young guys, and I think this bodes well for us. We do have a strong group, but I think that with the right combination of skill and luck, we could even get as high as third in our group. However, I'm a realist. I think the best we'll probably get is fourth, with some clutch wins. The best game we have might be our last one of this cycle against Gregoryisgodistan, where a playoff spot could be at stake.
Predicted Finish: 4th

The Greater Vakolicci Haven(223)
In this group of long names, The Greater Vakolicci Haven comes in second. However, in the group, their soccer does not match the length of their name, in our opinion. They will likely be six points for the top teams in our group, and I think we could grab four from them, maybe six. Another team that remains a bit of an unknown, but still has some potential to be an upset pick. We go against them on days 3 and 10.
Predicted Finish: 7th

Arbeitsgemeinschaft Alpenlander(343)
Well, the longest name in the tournament comes to us now, ranked 343rd in the world, as the new guys on the block. The real question is how their names fit on their uniforms. Likely six points for most of the teams here, but they could cause some havoc by winning some games they aren't supposed to. Hopefully, they don't do that against us. We'll be taking them on at home on day 4, and away on day 11.
Predicted Finish: 8th

Taijan(365)
This team seems vastly underrated, but of all the sports they excel at, they have not gotten into soccer yet. They should be interesting to face, as they definitely have good athletes. I think that their rank is not reflective of the skill they likely have, and so I think they will outperform expectations. I still think that we can seize three points at least against them, on either match day 2 or 8, but I wouldn't count on six.
Predicted Finish: 6th

The Power of Football #1
It was early in the morning but Kate wasn't going to miss this. The World Cup draw. It was so much more than a simple random picking of plastic balls with names inside to determine who played who over the next weeks. It was a new beginning.

She'd always loved football. Even during the darkest days of the War she'd always found a way to have a kick-about with other kids. It might not have been the best way to learn football, kicking a slightly deflated leather ball in the middle of a deserted road with bits of rubble all over the place, a pile of jumpers and coats making up the goals and a set of imaginary lines surrounding the limits of the pitch which was actually only defined by just how playable the terrain was.

But it sure was fun. Even some of the adults would join in now and then. But more often than not they would yell at the children to get back in the makeshift bunker in the back of Luke's garden. Luke was one of Kate's best friends. He loved football too. His Dad was a soldier, like most of the other dads and mums were, but he was an important soldier. The big bunker that protected the thirty odd people still living in this corner of Kernansquillec was his. He'd built it long before the War ever started.

That War. That never-ending War. Kate had lost a lot of people she knew in that War. 12 long years it had gone on for, pretty much her whole childhood. She was just a few months old when it all kicked off. Her Dad was called up just before hand. She never really knew him. A few days after he left he died. So did half a million others. They called it the Great Battle of Binic. Nothing was great about it. What was so great about erasing an entire city, along with its inhabitants and those who came to defend it, from existence? And that was just the start. Battle after battle, day after day, radio report after radio report. The numbers of dead never stopped rising. The destruction never stopped.

But that was over now. It all ended about 3 years ago. Life has changed a lot since then. Kate even owned a football now. She played on a grass pitch most weeks. She never stopped playing football. Most of the few moments of happiness she had experienced during the War had come from kicking a round ball. Football had been a symbol of hope for so many, one of the few happy memories everyone could cling on to. And now, for the first time in such a long time, everyone could stand together again and cheer on Kernansquillec.

The days where listening to the World Cup final on the radio, hearing weird sounding nations fight each other for that trophy, was the pinnacle of international football were over. Kernansquillec were back.

Kate had heard the stories of World Cup 57. That famous team. They made it all the way to the World Cup finals and came within three points of making it into the knockout stages. Soon after that the famous team were broken up. Some tried to flee. Most decided to stay. In the end all were killed. International football for Kernansquillec was over.

But not now. This felt like the end of an era of trauma, an era of pain, an era of war. And she was going to enjoy every moment of this return of Kernansquillec to the World stage.

The draw had started. She could have gone down to the village hall to watch it on the big screen but somehow listening to it on the radio that helped her though the end of the War felt right. She listened intently. But the begging of the draw wasn't really what interested her. It was when they came to that final pot that she tensed up. Who would Kernansquillec get drawn against. Ball after ball were removed. And then on the 12th ball: Kernansquillec.

Group 12. She didn't recognize too many of the names. Vilita were the most famous there. One of the big fish. She had also heard of Bears Armed as well. They were a good side. Somehow only seeded third in the group. Saintland was the second seeds. She'd never heard of them before. They reminded her of New Southampton who are nicknamed the Saints.

The other names all sounded weird. She didn't have a clue how to spell them when they were read out. Vettrera... Vet-tré-ah, Sammelreich... Chamalrike, Arkiasis... R-qay-sis, Arab County... Are-beh Country.

She'd have to buy tommorow's newspaper to take a closer look. She was sure that she'd made a least a few mistakes. Plus there was going to be a World Cup Qualifying special edition with all of the fixtures, all the teams. Everything you could ever want.

KERFA News
Kernansquillec's first qualifying game will be away from home, against the group's top seeds Vilita. The starting XI previously announced by first team manager Rachael Sandheart is still expected to kick off the qualifying campaign for the Green and Whites. All team members will be wearing black arm bands in memory of the many who fell during the War of Independence.

The Kernansquillecan Football Association (KERFA) has passed on a request to the Vilita FA and to the World Cup organizing body for permission to hold a minute's silence in this first international match for Kernansquillec since the end of the War, as well as for Kernansquillec's upcoming game against Sammelreich which will be Kernansquillec's first home match since the end of the War. The result of the request is expected within the next few hours but is expected to be granted.

In other news, the Kernansquillecan Football Association (KERFA) has launched a new website so as to keep fans up to date with everything to do with football in Kernansquillec, be it international or national football. The website is available HERE.

Expected lineup against Vilita: Kate Elyssa; Mary Cressac, Julian Yegos, Jean Dubois, Stuart Kellah; Julia Fengouli, Silvio Quaby, Marie Iris, Zac Poutre, Adélaïde Noupen; Peter Lilac

Three whole years. Three years since those miserable curs declared their illegal independence from our fine nation. Did they have a leg to stand on? Of course they didn't. The international community couldn't care less. The Syndicate, with it's ever pervasive influence, engaged in diplomatic talks with the heavyweights of the world - the Falcanians, the Audioslavians, the Vilitians. The politicians, those who held the seats of power, twisted their own words and those of the so called "freedom fighters", in order to sell to the international community why the independence of the Mertagne region simply wasn't justified. It didn't take much to convince half the world, the world that strove for peace and order, exactly why this was wrong.

I was there when the Council set themselves up. Nine members, all rebels, from various parts of the country, teamed together and elected a parliament. It was almost as much of a shambles that the original election that bought Corvidae in was. Papers flying left, right, and centre, and those who had supposedly fought to free themselves from tyranny succumbed to it as soon as they were given the opportunity to cause it. There was one member - called himself Lingua - that used to document his fight against Corvidae. The whole story is a pivotal piece in what is now the "Revolution Museum". I've read it, I've listened to it. His story is long, complex, and suffers from a terrible case of unreliable narrator. I don't even know his real name - just "Lingua". A face, a chiselled jaw, beady eyes, but no name. And that scared me a little. He and the other members of the Council of Nine, thereafter called The Council, set out on introducing a series of sweeping laws - laws that shook up the way of life we'd had for the past two years prior. This stark change from being able to do enough, to suddenly being able to do everything - it was too much for some to take. Drugs, prostitution, even "acting in self defence", all of these things were so called "freedoms" that we had suddenly been granted by rulers that didn't even consider the effect that this would have.

It was odd, though, as it seemed as if we were being ruled by two forces. Mertagne didn't really feel too distinct from the rest of the Syndicate - I was still allowed into the rest of the Syndicate, my money worked, I was allowed to play tennis with the club from Kateak, but my taxes went to these Ohm guys. They didn't really have any sort of grip on the region, aside from sitting at the border shooting anyone in a Corvdiae military uniform, and I genuinely started to doubt that we declared independence at all. The nation wasn't recognised, and Corvidae were still really pulling the strings, if not officially. It seemed that they just pretended to forget about us, and moved on in their own little world. New laws that were passed over in the Syndicate proper just didn't affect us, and I'm sure there was international outcry on how the rebel forces in Mertagne had taken the place for themselves. Looking on the DataLink, it seemed that Izaz was painted as a villain, who stole the minds of the people and falsified statistics in order to fuel his evil agenda. It was true though, in my eyes. He was a villian, one who had shaken up the dymanics of the region in order to further his egotistical political career. Giving the people what he assumed they wanted wasn't the answer, and the parliament he enacted was too full of misguided people who assumed that more civil liberties were a good thing. Gun ownership? Sure! Do the drugs? Sure! Sex in the street? We passed that last week!

All in all, it boiled down society into a goopy mess. People turned up for work smashed out of their faces, because they could. Others stayed up late into the night, racing cars on the streets without a thought about their safety or the safety of others. Mertagne became, in such a short time, the carefree, relaxed, party capital of the world. But nobody ever came in, and nobody ever left.

Mertagne has no ports - it's a bloody mountain range, for Ra's sake - and the airports were shut down as there was no organisation to run them. SyndAIRcate cancelled all flights into Pinehearth, Dysenside, and Westonbirt, and had no plans to launch a MAIRtagne, either. Other airlines simply didn't figure it was worth the risk. The one time someone did - a private jet, flown over from Stadavrik, chock full of investment bankers and those looking to have a good time - they felt the wrath of the still active Corvidae Military, and the plane crashed into Lake Dysen with no survivors. Was it an international incident? No. The crash was blamed on rebel suicide bombers, who felt the investment bankers were propping up the Syndicatian economy during it's slump. Stocks fell, people lost their jobs, but the Syndicate proper came out of the incident without a scrape. Mertagne, on the other hand, looked like a land of barbarians.

All this time later, it's never really been able to recover - and I'm stood here, at their third annual Independence Parade, to make sure it doesn't. The region was just fine under the care of the watchful eyes of Syndicatia, and a Syndicate can hardly call themselves a Syndicate if they remain divided. If I have to fuel the fire to another war to make sure we remain coherent, I'll do just that. Either way, I'm creating a spark.

OOC: This is the final part of the Two Part RP regarding the anticipation for the upcoming World Cup. This part focuses on a preview for the World Cup and predictions for the qualifying matches in their group.

CCSN Sports News

(Opening ident of CCSN Sports News begins the show.)

Andrews: Hello and welcome to CCSN Sports News. I am Aston Andrews.

Jefferson: And I am Ross Jefferson. Today, we are focusing on the upcoming World Cup. With the newly formed CCFU having recruited a national team capable of winning matches and the CCFU Leagues' inaugural season having restored the love of football in the hearts and minds of all Catholicans, many fans of the Blue Eagles are wildly anticipating the upcoming World Cup qualifying campaign. With the first matchday of the Blue Eagles being tomorrow, people are expecting their team to start winning games.

Andrews: Over the last World Cup cycles that the Blue Eagles have competed in, the national football team of Catholican Catholica has seen failure, finishing last in their groups in all their qualifying campaigns. With the CCFU having improved the quality of the staff, players and their facilities and equipment, everyone is hoping that the Blue Eagles can finally make something out of their national team. Here to predict what will happen in qualifying for the Blue Eagles is CCSN football analyst, Thomas Gillingham.

Gillingham: Thanks for having me on the show.

Jefferson: As we have known already, Catholican Catholica has been placed in Qualifying Group 8. The teams in the group that Catholican Catholica will be playing are in order of ranking: Farfadillis, Boring Paradise, Cosumar, Sameba, Usjekhipstahf, Alsacie, and The Andromeda Islands. Where do you think the Blue Eagles will end up in that group?

Gillingham: I think at the most convenient possibility, I believe that the Blue Eagles will finish at least fourth or fifth in their group. Considering the rankings of the teams in our group, I have confidence in this team that they can win over Usjekhipstahf, Alsacie, and The Andromeda Islands, as they are all ranked below us in the KPB Rankings or are newcomers that aren't even ranked at all. I believe we have a small chance that we can draw against Sameba and/or Cosumar, but other than that, Farfadillis and Boring Paradise are bound to be teams that we can tie or lose to.

Jefferson: What do you think about the team that the CCFU has chosen for this year's World Cup cycle?

Gillingham: I think the CCFU has chosen the best players from the best teams in our domestic leagues. With almost all our players coming from the top six teams in the Premier League, it's safe to say that we have sent out our strongest side yet to the Free Republics and Legalese. With fast, young players that have been chosen to play in the First XI of this national team, I and all the fans of our national team have confidence that this team will be able to win some games, and hopefully put us in a good place in our group.

Jefferson: There you have it, predictions from our very own football pundit, Thomas Gillingham. Thank you for being on the show, Thomas.

Gillingham: It's been my pleasure.

Jefferson: Back to you, Aston.

Andrews: Thank you, Ross. That is the end of our show. I've been Aston Andrews.

Jefferson: And I've been Ross Jefferson.

Andrews and Jefferson: And you've been watching CCSN Sports News. So long and goodbye.

(Sports News closing ident closes the show.)
I am Catholican Catholica. You are either my friend or my enemy. Choose Wisely.

World Cup 68 Preview

This is Darmen's thirteenth World Cup cycle, and the first for William von Kriesler as Manager. Hopes are high that Darmen will qualify for their fourth World Cup proper, and there are some that are inclined to believe that Darmen may make it deep into the knockout stages.

Darmen
KPB: 34
Darmen will of course rely on its strong midfield to win games. Captain Tor Tong Lee is the biggest star of the team, and will most likely lead Darmen in goals once again this cycle. Luca Cormio, Gene Turko and Nicky Salapu will provide support, either by feeding the ball to Lee when he's unmarked, or by crossing the ball into the box for forwards Bryan Faulkner and Roberto Gregio to connect with.

One of the fastest rising stars in Darmeni football, Nur al Din Lambert, will help to take pressure off of Darmen's defense. al Din Lambert, who appears in Sporting Iturributa's starting lineup on most occasions, has proven to be an important member for both the Iturributan team and the All Greens. Behind al Din Lambert is the back three of Mikael Adan, Charm Vue and Scott Rydzik. All three have received criticism in the past for allowing too many shots to be taken by opponents. But with al Din Lambert playing in a defensive midfield role, things should be different for the back three as they are called upon less. Should things get past them however, Goalkeeper Kimi Siesman will be there to stop anything from getting too out of hand.

Now lets meet our mates in Group Seven, lucky number seven. Here's the ones we know something about:
Barunia
KPB: 22 | All-time Record against Barunia: No Previous Meetings
One of the newer kids on the block, and somehow they got quite good quite fast, which seems to be all the rage these days. We... we prefer to take it slow and steady. That being said, Barunia will be Darmen's highest hurdle, but one that can be jumped. Securing 3 or 4 points against Barunia would almost assuredly assure us of first place in the group. They're a young bunch, their captain has only 44 caps (Tor Tong Lee must be past 400 by now), and this inexperience may prove fatal in their quest to secure top spot in the Group and an easier path in the playoffs.

Gyatso-kai
KPB: 69 | All-time Record against Gyatso-kai: 0 wins, 2 draws, 0 loses
Darmen and Gyatso-kai have met twice before on the pitch, both matches ending in draws. Gyatso-kai however is more know for Ice Hockey than Football, while Darmen is more known for Football than Ice Hockey. Advantage: Darmen.

Crystal Empire
KPB: 106 | All-time Record against the Crystal Empire: No Previous Meetings
Ponies, and a Unicorn for coach. They have four feet hoofs, and we only have two, clearly that gives them some sort of unfair advantage. Four feet bad, two feet good.

Nexxus Drako
KPB: 152 | All-time Record against Nexxus Drako: 2 wins, 0 draws, 0 loses
One of those pesky Esportivans. We've faced them twice and won twice, and we aim to do it again. Not to mention five of the Starting XI for Nexxus Drako are under 20, so an inexperienced lineup may find itself a bit overwhelmed by the likes of Lee, Faulkner and al Din Lambert.

And the others we know nothing about:
The Cabindan Free State
KPB: 270 | All-time Record against the CFS:
No Previous Meetings
Braylandia
KPB: NR | All-time Record against Braylandia:
No Previous Meetings
Stadavrik
KPB: NR | All-time Record against Stadavrik: No Previous Meetings

World Cup 68 Qualifiers: Group 5 Preview
By: Steven Smith

And here we are, the teams have been drawn, the groups decided, The Felixian Invitational and The Phoenix Cup won, and we now present the official Group 5 preview to the 68th edition of the World Cup Qualifiers. Teams from all over the multiverse will try and make it to the final but even if they get first in their respective groups they would have to go through a complex playoff system that will decide their World Cup berth fates. All the winners from that playoff stage will be going to either hosts Legalese or those scumbags called the "Free" Republics. This edition of The National will give you, the supporter to The Phoenix, a in-depth guide to our group which seems to be much easier than the group we got last World Cup Qualifiers. Nonetheless, expect this group to be just as exciting as any other as the boys and girls of Felix will gear up and get ready to march on as they will try to get as much glory, fame and multiversal recognition as possible. Now, without further delay, Group 5!

Apox, a country well known by the citizens of Felix. It was them that gave the whole region of Esportiva reasons to cheer during the 67th World Cup final after they finished in the highest placing ever by any team in the region, the round of 16. For that, we give Apox the title as favourites to win this group much to dismay of the Felixian faithful. It's just a fact guys, they're 19th in the multiverse and they have a talented defensive minded side. With players like Hans Nielssen and Isner and rising defensive star, Solomon Etezadi this team has the potential to shutdown our attack minded team. Something Mizuyuki head coach, Ishikawa Haruka, should take note of and prepare her team. We face them twice just like every team here in Group 5. Apox plays against us in matchday two and at their house, The Royal Stadium with a capacity of 71,000. I expect a draw or a close loss against them in the first match as Mikel Araboa wants to prove the Apoxians wrong and show that he is a talented man that was overlooked by their clubs. In the second match, played at home in matchday nine, I expect a close match as the Felixians will win or a draw. Their first opponent, Itanpavia a newbie to the World Cup. I expect a strong win for the Apoxian side.

Felix! The nation we all know and love. Felix had a strong showing in the previous edition of the World Cup qualifiers as they were drawn into "The Group of Death" which consisted of aged greats and young hopefuls. We, unfortunately, did not make it as we finished a grueling third place with one point behind second place and hated rival, the Free Republics. Even after that we continued to make some great strides in the multiverse of football as we had a quarterfinal finish in the Cup of Harmony losing a close, one goal to nil, match against the eventual third place finishers, German American States. Now we move on to this edition of the World Cup with new hopes and new teams to face off against. Kind of. We were drawn to Group 5 a totally different group from years' past. This group is no way a group of death but we should still be prepared for whatever comes to us. This team is still an attack minded team as Ishikawa Haruka enters her second World Cup qualifiers with Felix and her 4th overall (her first two years as a national team coach was with her home nation, Mizuyuki). With most of our first team talent now exported to teams abroad we expect this nation to be more prepared for the World Cup Qualifiers. Players I have a lot of faith in include star of the Felixian show, Sebastian Krister and redemption man, Mikel Araboa who is facing both the country he use to play with at the club level and the country his currently playing with. For those that didn't know the countries, they were Apox and Yttribia. Felix is expected to do great things as they were put in Pot 2, something that has never happened to Felix ever and it just goes to show how this team has grown over the years. We face The Sarian's former territory Lojal first at Felix's Estadio Nacional in Santa Maria, Felix. We expect a strong win from The Phoenix as they will go against a 316th ranked team.

Not much is known about this team honestly... Or the country for that matter. Despite all the Foogle searches I did on this nation I got very little info, heck I even looked at the WA profile on this country and I got nothing. No leader, no capitol, not even a official state religion. And I looked at the World Cup 68 Roster DatabaseTM and I got nothing with the word Milchama on it. So I had to look at the previous Cup of Harmony Roster DatabaseTM to get a meager amount of information. All we know is that they have a slightly attacking style of play and they are located at the AO, A.K.A, THE PLACE or Atlantian Oceania. So what can I say about this team? Not much. Despite their 57th ranking I expect them to finish 4th or 5th place finish in Group 5. I even predict that we will win both of the matches against them due to the lack of information we at The National have on them. Their first opponent is Rarungan, a team that is ranked 252nd in the multiverse. Despite the lack of a roster, I expect a easy win for them.

It's hard to say where this team will finish due to the fact that, one, they are unpredictable and two we are using information from the previous World Cup 67 Roster DatabaseTM. For all we know is that this team could've made 180 with their starters, their head coach, their style of play, etc. But for now, let's just use the information provided from that database. What I see is a team that could be dangerous if they can play well. With rising star Monsió Darmafá and a nicely moderate attacking styled team we could see this national side has the potential in making some good moves. But, as said earlier, that might not happen due to the lack of up-to-date information. Nonetheless this should be a side to lookout for and we face them in matchday 4. I expect a good, solid win from our side and when we face them at matchday 12, I expect a result similar, if not the same, as the matchday 4 result despite the fact they will have home field advantage. Their first opponent? Yttribia, a fellow Esportivan nation. Despite the rank that Yttribia has I expect them to pull off the upset. And speaking of the devil, next up... Yttribia.

Hmm, what can I say about this team? They seem very... Felixesque to their rise to prominence? I mean heck, these group of players are slowly going multiversal. That has to mean something, right? Of course, that means you're national side is really good at tiki-taca (Spanish speaking Felixian slang for football). Yttribia isn't like us though in terms of playing style though. These guys play a slightly defensive minded with a 5-3-2 "Sweeper" formation and it has worked rather well for them as they shutdown many promising offenses despite their lowly rank and is a team that Felix should keep a eye on. With star player cult figure Xavi Vilhjalmsson to lead the Yttribians in both offensive and defensive times. Seriously, it's no wonder the mainly atheist nation of Yttribia made a church to this guy, he that good. Expect a lot of Felixian defenders, probably, Real Santa Maria player, Bernardino Florentino to try and cover this tall man well. Or at least try to. In our national team two Felixians play in Yttribia, former Real Santa Maria midfielder Gabriel Jenaro, and former Mandon United forward, Mikel Araboa both moved to Ytrribia to play some football. So what do I predict will happen when face them? I expect a close win at home against them and I expect either a close loss or draw against them at their home. This team if focused, can finish as high as third but it all depends if they want it all. Their first match is against Charruterra and as said earlier, I predict a close, upset, win for them.

For a national team and country I have never heard of (and probably many Felixians haven't heard of) I got a lot of information from them, something I found pleasantly surprising. Heck, I got more information from their government website and the World Cup 68 Roster DatabaseTM than World Cup regulars Milchama. Something I found quite funny. Anyways, this team isn't really known and for that we got to be prepared for them. Because even the most minuscule of teams can pose a threat to a World Cup berth. They play a 4-2-4 formation something I do recognize (does Altomare/Napoli ring a bell anyone?) and I like how they set up a slightly attacking style. A player that I see that has great potential is 24 year old Eko Mattani, a player that has talent and if he is lucky could get a invite to play in Felix for a FFL team or a lowly FCL team. If he can prove his worth there he can later go up to the bigger clubs. I predict a 5th or 6th place finish from these group of players something good for a football programme that is just building. When we face them we will beat them in both matchdays 7 and 14. They will face Milchama and despite the lack of a roster from that national team I expect the Rarungani team to lose.

Lojal, a country kind of unknown to everyone really. They just gained independence from The Sarian, an ally to Felix during the troubles brought by those filthy scumbags Free Republics. And at a first glance, they seem like a nation perfectly compatible with the Free Republics. They are both fundamentalist (or at least have a vociferous fundamentalist side) and regularly suppresses LBGTQ rights. Something most Felixians would despise in a nation as the Felixian people (except those Nationalist looneys) love equality in all areas of society (other than the markets of course, this nation is strongly capitalist) and generally have a negative and private view regarding religion. Remember that most Felixians keep their faith private and only dish out their religious beliefs for census purposes. Anyways, back to football. This team comprises of some former Sarian players such as captain and star player, Clayton Huff. We played against his team and when he defected to Lojal he joined their upstart team in their failed bid to win the BoF. But just because of that we shouldn't expect a game where we can simple roll over them, they have a slightly above moderate level of defensive styled play with a strong back three that should be a little bit tough to break. Nonetheless I don't expect much from these guys and I predict a 7th placed finish and two loses (maybe even big ones) against Felix. Their first opponent? Us of course. And they will play at the Estadio Nacional in Santa Maria, Felix.

They didn't enter the BoF and because of that, they are unranked. So what is expected from this group of lads and lass (yep, only one female player)? Not much unfortunately, despite them raving over Tomasz Francis. I am sure he will be a good player for the national team but the facts show, this team is too inexperienced, is too new in the multiversal stage and they won't fair well. But that doesn't mean they could string a few upsets (in a way of a draw, I don't see them winning a match) so we always got to be prepared for them. We face them in matchday 3 and 10. Both matchdays I predict will be a Felixian win, probably by a huge margin. And because they are unranked I expect a lowly last place finish. Not much going for them, huh? Their first opponent is a tough one, it is Apox king of Esportiva (or something). I predict a blowout.

And there you have it! A nice snapshot of every single team in Group 5. The Group of [insert clever title here]. Special Report: Trophies!
By: Pedro Villa

Just before the World Cup draw Felix had a invitational and a Cup that they hosted. The Felixian Invitational was hosted by the cities of Napoli and Altomare and the second mentioned city saw Felix win the first Invitational with a wonderful victory over rivals The Royal Barangay in a decisive 2-0 win. We had two goal scorers in match, Mikel Araboa who scored the first off a pass from Gabriel Jenaro and the second one came from a brilliant free kick by Sebastian Krister. The victory was a sweet one for Felix as they defeated their rivals in a packed Stadio Altomare. That tournament saw some surprising scorelines especially in the second matchday where Boring Paradise (out of all countries might I add) beat down New North Aqmuland with a crushing score of 10-0. Ouch.

A few weeks after the Invitational and a few weeks before the draw, Mizuyuki, a friendly rival, and Felix organized a new friendly championship called The Phoenix Cup. Felix had never drew or won against Mizuyuki but in a landmark tournament Felix achieved both as The Phoenix drew their first match in a nearly full Estadio Nacional and won on Mizuyuki soil for the first time ever in both Felixian history and in Ishikawa Haruka's tenure as head coach of Felix. The first match was a high scoring affair with 3 different goal scorers. As Mikel Araboa was the first as he made a brilliant header off the pass by Kunibert Mathias in the 7th minute. Eventually, Felix doubled their lead in the 20th minute with a nice shot by the man that assisted Mikel's goal, Kunibert Mathias. But the Mizuyuki side wasn't out yet as they scored a quick two goals in the 24th and 26th minutes. It completely silenced the Felixian home side as they were in shock. And just before the half Mizuyuki gained the lead with a amazing shot from 30 yards out. A absolute stunner.

Felix came back from the 3-2 deficit to take their own lead again when Maria Martell scored a amazing bicycle kick off the cross by Sebastian Krister in the 49th minute. In the 54th minute Mikel got his double with a great series of passes from the Felixian side that resulted in a very accurate forward pass the made Mikel breakthrough the Mizuyuki line and it was a one on one situation from there in which he easily won. 4-3. But Mizuyuki, as per usual, wasn't out yet and they slowly started to mount their attacks, something sort of odd coming from them. Eventually that in itself resulted in a amazing goal at last seconds of stoppage time as they scored from a corner kick. Wow. 4-4 heading into game two.

You would think that they Mizuyuki side would have a advantage, they stole a win from Felix at their home, not only that they were coming back to their home ground and had the crowd with them. Yet, Felix wasn't fazed and they played (despite the scoreline) the most brilliant game of Felixian football I have ever seen in a looooong time. The game was tight and the atmosphere thick with anticipation for that first goal. It come in the first half and it didn't come late in the match. Many wondered if the game would go to extra-time. It wouldn't as Andres de Colorado scored a historic game winning goal in the 85th minute when Gabriel Jenaro made a wonderful cross and with de Colorado's backheel he scored the winner shocking the home crowd and giving Felix's first win over Mizuyuki and the honour of winning the first Phoenix Cup.

That's all from this week of sporting news coming from The National, good luck to Felix as they head to the most grueling tournament of all, the World Cup. They will enter the qualifiers where they will face Lojal. I'm rooting for you guys! And good luck to Mizuyuki as they head to their own World Cup Qualifying journey as they were drawn to a intriguing Group 13. Until next time everyone!

In other news...

>> The Nationalist Party making moves in the urban part of Felix as the United Party led Presidency does nothing to form a military.
>> 68% Felixians are frustrated by the slow process made by the President to form Felix's first military.
>> President Tamara Van Der Ven to visit Mizuyuki for talks regarding the military.
>> Sporting Volker declared as the best club in Felix and in Felixian history by the Felixian Footballing Society (FFS).
>> The Felixian Handball Association signs up for the 12th Handball World Cup, ready to defend their title.

OJ: "Hello, and welcome to ND Sports for our World Cup 68 preview, I'm your host, Oliver Johnson. With me today is the Nexxus Drako Age's Sports Editor, Kent Joseph and on the phone, we have the Eternal President, Nexxus Drako, who is a mad sports fan."
KJ: "Pleasure to be here in the studio, Oliver"
ND: "Pleasure to talk here as well"
OJ: "It is my pleasure too. Now, let's get the draw up on the screen.
Group 7
Barunia (22)
Darmen (34)
Gyatso-kai (69)
Crystal Empire (106)
Nexxus Drako (152)
The Cabindan Free State (270)
Braylandia (UR)
Stadavrik (UR)

OJ: "Right, Barunia, looks like a top team, 22nd in the multiverse, what do you all think?"
KJ: "It will most likely be between them and Darmen for the top of the group, which doesn't guarantee qualification due to the system the hosts made, I'm not a fan of it, but it's better than the Casaran format"
ND: "Barunia or Darmen for top sounds like a good bet."
OJ: "Okay, seeing we've touched on 34th ranked Darmen, what about Gyatso-kai?"
KJ: "As embarrasing as this sounds, I've never heard of them."
ND: "Neither have I, to be honest."
OJ: "Okay, how about Crystal Empire, 106th in the multiverse?"
ND: "Isn't that a pony nation?"
OJ: "My data says yes."
ND: "My dark horse, ponies are surprisingly good at their 'hoofball'."
KJ: "They may or may not finis above us."
OJ: "Right, we're 5th seed, 152nd in the multiverse, what do you think of our chances?"
KJ: "We have a good chance of top 4 if we keep our good form, have high morale and keep scoring, we'll need to rely on our power 3, Arland, Hill and Golt."
ND: "Yes, I agree"
OJ: "What of the three other teams, who are practically unranked?"
KJ: "They may upset, but it's not likely"
ND: "Inconsequential."
OJ: "Well that's all we have time for today, good night Nexxus Drako."

FlorganiaSport
World Cup Qualifying: Group 14 Preview

The excitement continues for Florgania football as the World Cup qualifying groups were drawn with Florgania being placed in a fairly challenging group. Without further adieu, the FlorganiaSport qualifying preview:

Polar Islandstates
Polar Islandstates, the defending World Cup Champions and recent champions of the Confederation Cup enter into Group 14 as the clear favorites. Results speak for themselves and Polar Islandstates sure has history in this competition by playing in the last 3 World Cup Finals. An easy pick to make a deep run once again.

Eastfield Lodge
The second highest ranked team in this group, Eastfield Lodge is favored to qualify after their recent failures. A nation with rich football history and a competitor to watch out for.

Qazox
A country with rich history in this competition, but a lack of success recently. The last World Cup that they qualified for was WC62 and the media coverage on the squad has been negative. Qazox brings lots of potential, but they have an uphill journey to reach the World Cup.

Kazamatsuri
Kazamatsuri is relatively unknown to Florgania. Statistics tell us that they are the 4th highest ranked team in the group. A possibility to qualify, although it would take some surprises.

Florgania
As the runners up of the recent Baptism of Fire, things are looking up for Florgania. A dark horse in Group 14, we could challenge the others for a trip to World Cup 68 in our first try although, history shows that young teams have trouble qualifying for the World Cup right away.

New Wolfopolis
New Wolfopolis competed in the Baptism of Fire 55 recently with marginal success by reaching the round of sixteen. They are new to football but are a potential threat for the third qualifying spot. It's World Cup qualifying, anything can happen.

Olastor
Olastor has had a dismal history competing in the World Cup. After collecting only 2 points last time around they will be looking to improve from that, however qualifying for the cup is unlikely.

Taslantis
Taslanits also competed in the most recent Baptism of Fire although has yet to win a match in international football. They also have brought up a 15 year old to contribute to their squad. Whether Taslantis is desperate or hiding something... we'll have to wait and see although a trip to the World Cup is highly unlikely.

Schedule:
MD1- @ Kazamatsuri
MD2- @ Taslantis
MD3- vs. New Wolfopolis
MD4- @ Olastor
MD5- vs. Polar Islandstates
MD6- @ Eastfield Lodge
MD7- vs. Qazox
MD8- vs. Kazamatsuri
MD9- vs. Taslantis
MD10- @ New Wolfopolis
MD11- vs. Olastor
MD12- @ Polar Islandstates
MD13- vs. Eastfield Lodge
MD14- @ Qazox

San Salvador, SJG. The highly anticipated event comes to us after a surprise 67 WC Qualifiers and CoH mediocre, coupled with an interesting DBC 30, the WC 68 arrives, this time SJG is in better condition, more quality, more players and more talent to showcase, plus a very interesting potential for this tournament.

Movements like Rodolfo Zelaya to Northbrook Diamonds (PIS), certify the good form and mood that players live all SJG and the multiverse, and Árbol Saucedo who is displaying his talent by becoming an indispensable part of squad Avenida Leal in Farfadillis, a Sean Fraser who feels inspired in the FC.1 Bjarnarey Flotilla and scored 12 goals in his first season in the very demanding football of Polar Islandstates besides Henry Hernandez who was champion of the Cup of Valladares, considering that the cup is one of the most prestigious in the multiverse.

A moment of high expectations live around our players, who want to give their best and if possible, seek to become a serious contender to challenge at the top of the group.

Eura

What can we say about them, WC 66 champions, have a competitive league, players on better teams than ours. As are nicknamed Clockwork Euran this is a very methodical side when playing with very fast players on both sides, tall and talented team players in addition to some aces as John Spartan and his short pass range, the one who handles the Euran side, if it is blocked to some point, this team could become inoperative, his advantage is experience, which have up to give away, also some knowledge of Rudy Valencia could be good here, because he knows the Euran way to play football (He played in Euraleague (1st division) before his team got relegation).

Prediction: God save us from a catastrophe in any game against them, we're likely to lose both games with scores of 3-1 or 5-0, but with a little luck we can steal a few points, perhaps with a 3-0 lose and 2-2 is Ok.

The Licentian Isles

The Cyan and Gold, a team that is on the rise internationally, Without question is the second best team in all Esportiva, are now under the leadership of Gethin Ramsey, former technical director of New Sideburn, a team he led Finals the WC 67.

Focusing with the "Cyan and gold", their league is one of the best in the world like his team, which is very tough to play a team with a lot of courage and bravery but tends to wane in the decisive moments, perhaps this is in addition to paralyze the "Hourglass" (their strategy) so a player is located in the middle of the field blocking actions midfielder and playmaker will be decisive to give "a blow" to the hourglass.

Prediction: Surely this will be the team that will fight side by side for all qualifiers by getting second place in the group, so it is vital to beat a game and try to tie the other, and ideally beat twice by reduced, margins would not be the first time, because we beat Taeshan twice last qualifiers, so my prediction would be suitable a 2-0 for us at home and a 2-0 loss in visitor status.

Nova Anglicana

A promising team is this, we even may actually cause some problems along the way, at the international level is seen as a squad on the rise to positions of recognition, a very talented and physically strong team.

This team has played against us for the Copa de La Paz, beat them with 5-0 and 2-1 in the 3PPO (AET) this team apart from being very versatile, and has proven to put in serious trouble various teams with some level of fame in of the multiverse.

Prediction: Perhaps this is one of the most difficult games for us, here ideally sentencing both parties in our favor and avoid surprises that ultimately affect us negatively, we perhaps tying in some game, probably in their field.

At the end of private mental analysis, I have come to the conclusion that we will win 3-1 at SJG and 1-0 as a visitor.

Gloriax

One of the newest in the neighborhood (Esportiva), has proven to be a team in constant development in talent and effectiveness, are characterized by a very similar to our game in terms of strategy as to when to play, something they can take its toll is lack of experience at international level and the pressure of the players to excel, which is a double-edged sword, plus they know their strategies perfectly, as their captain plays in, guess where....... Here, in our country, so we have known someone whom we know how he plays.

Prediction: They are in the situation where we situate ourselves at the very beginning of the WC 67, a team with enthusiasm and energy, it will be very difficult to defeat but I dare say we won both games, perhaps 3-1 and 2 -0, is sufficient.

The Holy Forden Church

The monks of Darmen again. This is the second time you face this opponent consecutively in the Qualifiers WC, and more highs we started against them as we did last time, so this opponent is already known to us in all terms, only now is a little stronger but the same monks forever, so this is already settled.

Prediction: It isn't very necessary to analyze this team, we will win both games, 3-0 and 2-1.

Blackclyffe

These kids are newbies here, but we already know, we played two games in the Campionato Esportiva IX, we beat them 3-2 and 2-1 but then, SJG used a "suicide" tactical system that can be called by its aggressiveness rebound and little or no defense, this team despite being very young, he has shown some ability to make something interesting in this Qualifieres, and is likely to be doomed to fight not to obtain the latest embarrassing place.

Prediction: Sweep and 6 points. (5-0 and 7-1)

The Vilkings

At last, with a reserved prognosis, we find these guys, their players are interesting but can not change reality, it is very sure they finish last in the standings, well this team will not make any opposition.

Prediction: Monsieur.... give me six points please. (Scores: 5-0 twice)

Final resume

Well, this tie will be very interesting to SJG interests, with a little luck can achieve second place, depending if they win on two occasions at The Licentian Isles or at least win them once and then we tied them in away territory. Against Eura will be very difficult, it is possible to lose both games and maybe tie them one to defeat us in the other, with other rivals no problem, but we must take special care to Gloriax and Nova Anglican who can get into any serious trouble, but hopefully it is not.

The final predictions are.

In the most optimistic prediction is: 12-1-1 which to be honest looks very difficult and that a miracle would be accomplished.

In the more or less conservative prediction is: 11-1-2 that it looks a bit out of reality.

On a more cautious and conservative predictions is: 9-2-3, which is not impossible to do and looks that can be as feasible and possible.

In the worst of the predictions is: 7-2-5 with maybe we're going to make the play-offs so difficult.

In all cases, you can achieve the play-offs, in the first two can be achieved even in this stage a surprising second place, which would give us a little advantage for the final push where the goal is to try to go to WC Finals, and in the other two planes can be reached as third, in the third plane is a little more comfortable and the fourth orthodox thus believe and I believe that we will fight to the play-offs and who takes it go to the world for the first time, so it's time to try and fight for the dream.

(OOC: Like Saintland’s roleplays in World Cup 67, the host bidding criticisms here are completely OOC and intended to be equally as absurd).

So, look who the hosts are!
by Rachel Sharper, Concord Heights Times- Senior Editor

Things were a lot less stressful when we knew that we didn’t have to qualify. The automatic bid was nice to have, and the team did a great job representing Cassadaigua on home turf. They didn’t advance out of the group stage, put picking up five points within it was helpful in terms of building confidence going into the future. That, and it helped in the rankings as well, putting Cassadaigua in the second pot.

It’s time for World Cup 68, and the losers of the host bidding for World Cup 67 have been awarded with a consolation prize this time around, as long as they put that Casaran system to rest. You will of course, remember, that the nation of Saintland decided to boycott World Cup 67, because they were sore losers in regards to losing this vote. Yes, it was close, but in their world (which at times is very strange), there was some kind of corruption that went on there, and I am not going to dignify it with specifics. Truth be told, the World Cup Committee considered both options, and awarded Cassadaigua and Equestrian States with the great distinction of hosting the tournament. Saintland boycotted, and the heroes of Feministvs Sanctvsterra nearly qualified on behalf of that nation, which in turn would have made a mockery of the actual Saintland national team. However, the damage was clearly done, and Saintland officials knew there was no way that after such a debacle that they could be awarded with an automatic berth into World Cup 68. Therefore, they called upon their regionmates from World Changers, Free Republics, to co-host with Legalese instead. Although they are completely sovereign nations, let’s not pretend they are not best buddies, as after all Free Republics has a stadium named “Church of Saintland Stadium”. What kind of halfway intelligent nation would honor the religious views of Saintland if they were not very closely aligned. It makes sense, therefore, for Free Republics to host with Legalese for the consolation prize World Cup, but if there was ever a bidding process that was flawed, it was this one right here!

You did notice that there were no other host bids for this World Cup, right? Every once in a while it might seem like Gregoryisgodistan might bid, but no one ever takes Gregory seriously. There was also speculation of a Ko-oren bid, but that never came to fruition. Instead, voters were presented with only one option: Legalese and Saintland’s backup plan in Free Republics (for the reasons listed above). How could this happen? How was there only one bid for the most prestigious sporting competition in the world. According to Margaret Sanders of Brattleboro Technical Institute, “There is no reason why other countries would not have bid for the World Cup other then to think that Legalese and Free Republics were not paying off other potential bidders to keep from bidding. Legalese is not as guilty of this is as Saintland is though, they repeatedly fed the world with sob stories over the World Cup 67 vote, and the end result was enough people had sympathy for them to award them with the next one. As long as there was no Casaran.” You have to trust Margaret, after all, because someone named Margaret can never, ever lie. Furthermore, there are signs that some nations did not wish to award these nations their consolation gift, as out of the 29 votes that were cast (for an actual option), 8 of them were to re-open bids. That seems to be a pretty high number: 27% of voters did not have confidence in the bid, even when it was just the only one.

CASE (Cassadagan Association for Soccer Excellence) is quick to point out that they were one of the 21 that voted for the bid, and that Cassadaigua plans no retaliation of a response compared to what Saintland did in the previous World Cup. Said its President Meaghan Bateman, “This is an important World Cup for Cassadaigua, and while there were unfortunate things that were said about us being awarded World Cup 67, we never had any silly thoughts of retribution. Legalese is a good host, and Free Republics, first of all, is not Saintland, and second of all, is a nation that did a terrific job in their portion of hosting World Bowl 23, a competition in which Cassadaigua was victorious in.” Bateman also responded when asked of her opinion of World Cup 68 being awarded to them as a consolation prize, “It’s not unprecedented for a losing bid one cup to win it the next. Let’s not read anything more into it.” Oh, but Meaghan, reading more into things is what makes it fun!

Regardless of the “how” they became hosts, it is time for the World Cup, and Cassadaigua is ready to show that they can qualify for the World Cup by means of more then just being a host nation. It’s a successful path that The Inevitable Syndicate took in the last cup, and we can do the same thing. It won’t be easy, and with the likes of New Montreal States and Maklohi Vai in the group, there is an entertaining challenge ahead. Momentum though, is all-Cassadaigua right now, when looking at recent performances in the World Bowl, World Cup of Hockey, and the World Baseball Classic. It’s just like old times!

(OOC: I'll be travelling the next few days, RPs may be sparse. Should be around by the end of the week, we'll see!)

The Spenson Star
Identity Crisis?

At last, the decision is made; Matilda Kratochvil will take over management of the Zwangzug national football team. After leading Excelsior Slogda to the quarterfinals of the Globe Cup, she's apparently the best candidate to replace Bridget Scroves. [Which, be honest--whoever thought that the national team was best served, moving forward, by hiring the Ephesian FC manager needs to get over themselves. -ed]

So, Kratochvil it is, then, although she doesn't seem to have brought many significant tactical departures from the Scroves era. If anything, a Slogda-based manager should only want to make the team more defensive. Maybe that was Kratochvil's idea. But she didn't really have a choice; with literally all the reserve defenders from the last squad no longer bearing that title, there was no one left to substitute in!

That is to say, most of the retirements/cuttings/what have you came at the back. Out is Angela Rose-Dauphine, perhaps uncomfortable with the pressure of stepping into Brett Chrowder's cleats? [Not literally. They don't fit. And they'd smell a bit by now. -ed] Her Spenson Suburbia remains represented...in a way. While clubmate Franklin Witchein-Coan replaces her in the supposed starting lineup, he's succumbed to the lure of the circumflex and dashed off to Farfadillis, leaving Percy Eskridge to get called up as a reserve. Jerzy McFetridge, most recently of Abingdon Celtic, is also gone; his old club, Keppal Cosmos, can now boast Tygo Beumers on the bench. An experienced talent, no doubt, but perhaps not one for the long haul? An actual consideration for the future is Nadine Roark--Kratochvil bypassing the older Sid Fringil from Slogda in favor of a younger protege. Hopefully she knows what she's doing. Meanwhile, because it's nice to throw a bone to the bottom half every once in a while, Jocelyn Chara-Fekapeu will represent Sporting Esper. Kratochvil has denied all rumors that the defender had to legally change her name several times in order to provide more alphabetical diversity to the squad.

[Oh, if it's alphabetical diversity you want, stick around. -ed]

Moving into the starting lineup, after waiting out four cycles on the bench, comes better-late-than-never Sara Hale-Barnard. Fans through the first few seasons might remember her gritty defense, and cavalier attitudes towards bookings, as part of Canbix' early dynasty. In addition, the retirement of Vipin Lamin opens a spot for a left-back who's been compared with him; Kazue Harel, known for her devotion to her club. Eintracht Trink improved by leaps and bounds in the previous season, in large part because she could provide a level head at the back.

And they've been rewarded with another callup; midfielder Liorit Wirth, once touted by us as an up-and-coming talent to watch, has apparently hit the big time. She'll replace Joan Gerland, who will retire from the Matthew City Senators after this season. Rumor is already spreading that her distinguished career could see her #7 retired from the Senators. [Nobody mention retiring numbers to the national team. They'll get ideas. Again. -ed] In the meantime, her national team #7 will pass to Tullio Schi.

The sixteen-game campaign will see team Zwangzug visit Sharag and Keppal City for the first time. But that home schedule? Well, it's as unbalanced a first/second half split as you're likely to see. The first half consists of four games against distantly unfavored opposition, all in the triple-digits of the KPB ranks. [The relative ranks. Not the raw score. -ed] Well, that goes without saying. The second half, though...Zwangzug begin the home portion by hosting Equestrian States, the only team ranked above them. (This also means that they'll begin the cycle in the country where the previous one ended.) Matchday Twelve sees them take on Iturributa, in a game with pride on the line. The pride of black and white stripes. Our vertical side is expected to have a slight edge over their horizontal counterparts, but as fans of the domestic game know, the Albatrosses are not to be underestimated.

And then...them. Flimsy attempts at national pride were sorely threatened at the Olympics, when a foreign country named Zwannswijik had the audacity to march in between us and the hosts. Now, they've been drawn into group 23, for what could be an even more grudgy grudge match. With neither our color scheme nor our last-in-alphabetical-order status our own anymore, what's a team to do? It's too soon to say for sure--but the Kratochvil era might see Zwangzug's attitudes get even more defensive after all.

Part One

The six members of the Federal Council, who are each the Yttribians head of state have finally come together in the small town of Schweighausenergrund, in the region of Obersinn, to finally come up with a new constitution for the brand new Yttribian Confederation. Emma Boer, one of those six Federal Council members, quietly awaits for the arrival of the other five, so they can proceed with the photo-op, and eventually get to work.

"Well, damn. If they aren't here in five minutes, this constitutional meeting is going to be cancelled, and then we'll get a bunch of fucking heat from the press, saying that we're better off with Grimaldi, that damned-"

Just as Emma Boer was about to finish her self-rant, the other five members bursted into the door without security, nor protection. The members were carrying bags of Obersinn's most famous delicacy, die Stollen. Die Stollen is basically bread-like cake with dried fruit, dried nuts, and more, all covered with frosting.

"Holy crap, we need this in Penedès. By far the best thing I've ever tasted in my entire life. Now please, I need some damn more. And let's talk large, Emma. I ran Vivas Enterprises before I became governor. We can make this the next big thing, actually make Obersinn relevant after this whole thing is done, and not have you guys wait thirty to forty years before this place gets printed in a textbook."

"Richard, you make fun of my home one more god damn time, and I swear on my mother's grave, you'll be the next Andrew Grimaldi in Yttribia. That would be such a shame, and a tragedy, wouldn't it?"

Giorgio Marchegiano, the governor of the Urellans slowly walks over to the two with his cane, and then lightly smacks the two governors with said cane.

"You young idiots need to stop bickering, because if not, then I will tell you all of those old stories no grandson or granddaughter wants to hear about their boring past. Now apologize, or else I will take you to church, and force you to say one-hundred Ave Marias. And before you ask, in Italian as well. Do you youngsters understand?"

"Yes, Giorgio."

"Good, now walk straight, good posture, and fix your tie, Richard. Your mother wouldn't be proud of your tie. In the name of the Lord, why did you use the four-in-hand? Are you going to a party or something..."

"Giorgio, everyone. It's time."

The six members of the Federal Council walk into the press conference area, as Emma pushes open the doors. The abundance of flash photography stuns Giorgio, but the other governors keep their cool, as a plethora of questions is blurted out in the room. The Council walks over to the podium, while Boer heads over towards the microphone set in the podium, and is ready to read off her speech already placed in front of her.

"Well, it's an absolute pleasure to welcome you to Obersinn, and to the cozy hamlet of Schweighausenergrund. As you all know by now, we are members of the Federal Council, and we are here to draft up, and eventually send to each of our regional governments a brand new constitution. Now, from what we've heard on the way over to the podium, which is way more than a gossip would say in their lifetime, you're all wondering on what we will all discuss while writing up the constitution. For starters, we'll be discussing the topics of the right to bear arms, freedom of speech, equality between genders, and a bit more. Topics open to discussion include gambling, legalization of drugs, foreign relations between regions, and more stuff that we can't name off the top of our heads.

We'll be setting a maximum of twenty amendments, in order to give each of the regions more liberty when it comes to less important laws and what not. Now, I know this is probably a bit vague, but what else are we supposed to do? We need rise auf Asche. From the ashes, as we say here in Obersinn, when the tough gets going. But this constitution will be absolutely better than the one currently in place at this time. Now, we're open to your questions, right now. You can direct them to any one of us, for a more personalized response."

A young journalist, of nineteen years of age, who is working as a reporter for Fontvieille University's newspaper, the Crusader, raises her hand, and is called on by Emma Boer.

"Yes, you in the fedora. State your name, and your newspaper."

"Hello, Marie Quivanson for the Crusader. This question is directed to anyone with substantial knowledge on the topic, but do you all know where former President Andrew Grimaldi is located?"

"Well, I think I can answer your question, Miss Quivanson. Andrew Grimaldi was last reported to be vacationing in The Sarian. Those damn Bustards, hiding a terrible leader. And by vacationing, we mean he's been exiled there. It seemed that the government took him with open arms, and his wife was invited to visit as well. However, his children and relatives have disowned him, so they are totally okay in our book. Please direct any further questions to the Sarian's national government."

The young journalist sits down, and a middle-aged journalist of a large-build stands up with his tape recorder ready to take input from the Council.

"Yes, you, in the suspenders."

"Ivan Malitte, with the Telino Guardian here. To Richard Vivas, as the current governor of the Penedès region, will there be any sort of guaranteed rights for the region, or will these apply to the entire nation?"

"Mr Malitte, I can reassure you that we will not be smacked down with even more regulations than we had under that terrible leader. So please, do not worry about any more regulations, as this Constitution will be the only laws that apply for the entire nation."

At the moment, Malitte sat down, and no more journalists stood up, since that was the main question they had for the Council.

"Well, looks like he killed two-hundred and forty eight birds with one stone. On behalf of everyone on the stage, I'd like to thank you for your time. Please, get some rest, and get ready to cheer for our Ravens!"

The six members of the Federal Council waved to the press, and they returned into their situation room, and watched as two body guards closed the door behind them. As soon as the door was locked, Giorgio smacked Richard with his cane, and watched as Richard made a soft yelp.

"What did I tell you about a good posture? You no good governor, always acting smug and whatnot. You know that's a sin under the Lord's name, do you not understand?"

"Yes, sir."

"Now for goodness sakes, go back to the hotel, we have some work to do."

"Yes, sir."

Emma watched as Giorgio and Richard verbally fought on their way out of the situation room, and then watched as the other three members approached her. Aubert began to speak, which caught Emma a bit off guard.

"Emma, where do you get these delicacies? I mean, sacre bleu, they are the best thing since the baguette was placed in a bag! You must tell us about those delicious cakes!"

"48 Brandt-Strasse. My personal favorite, and a little hole in the wall. Tell 'em I sent you."

The three governors all rush out of the room, to head over to the location she gave. Emma was the only member left in the conference room, and pulled up a small chair. She then clapped her hands to turn off the lights. She sat in the room, thinking about the future of the nation, and how she held an even portion of it in her hands.

"We'll come on marching forward with thee, Yttribia. Just you wait and see."

World Cup Draw Announced, Fire Ants in Group 24

In only a few weeks the World Cup qualifiers begin and the Fire Ants of Antoletia will be looking to qualify for the fourth time in team history to the worlds most illustrious sporting competition. To do so they will face 7 other teams in one of 24 groups. Finishing in first gurantees the Ants a good chance of qualifying, through one or two rounds of playoffs. Second or third place also allows them a chance, but forces them to beat two different teams in two legged playoffs, as opposed to only beating a singular side. The Fire Ants have been placed with the 7 teams of Blouman Empire, , Estope, Falcus, Jeckland, Scorpio, UzBenistan, and Total n Utter Insanity.

The Ants will start the campaign home against UzBenistan. The first game is hopefully one of the easier ones of the tournament, and the Ants should hope to get off to a good start. The comes the biggest match in Blouman Empire. The two sides will likely be fighting for the top spot in the group, and this should be a rather interesting matchup. Mtchday 3 sees Total n Utter Insanity come to town, a game that is strongly in the Ants favor. Following that a home matchup with Estope, the third ranked team in the group and the biggest thread to Antoletias playoffs chances. The battles don't stop there as they then head to Falcus a team hoping to knock the top 3 out of the playoffs. The Ants end the first half at home vs Jeckland and away in Scorpio in hopefully easier matchups. Then the reverse fixtures occur.

World Cup Draw Announced

Once again it is the time of the year for the World Cup, and the Purple Knights are getting ready for another attempt at qualifying. The team hopes to do that for the first time in 3 campaigns and the heat is on for new manager Gwyn Juniper who hopes to lead the country he played for back to the world Cup for basically the first time since he played. Interesting matchups will be found in the Knights Group, Group 15 as the Knights face Valanora and Quebec a team who has recently beaten the Knights to qualifying in the last world cup. Now once again the Knights will be up against the wall to qualify. Top 3 finishers have a chance, so the Knights just need to beat 5 of the other 7 teams to make the playoffs.

The Knights big matchup will be on matchday 2 as they head to Valanora. Also big will be matchday 9 when they host them in the Atlantea Coliseum. The two teams will face each other for the 10th and 11th times in team history. The two games will tie the Vanorans for 4th all time in competitive matches with the Knights, only behind old rivals Sorthern Northland and Daehanjeiguk as well as longtime rivals Jeruselem. Of second most importance will be the matches against Quebec on matchdays 4 and 11 with the former being at home in the Coliseum. The two teams traded victories in their only two meetings. Third most importance will be giving to the duo of Ceni and Kintratar who the Knights will host in the Stairway to Heaven. Then the final three teams of Modorsica, Krad United and Ratmo will be hopeful victories for the Knights. The first two will come to Docktown Memorial with the last in X Island Metropark.

Also big news was the 26th meeting of the Purple Knights and the Princesses of Jeruselem in the Coliseum to get the Knights season underway. With 6 subs the game was used for both sides to get players ready for the qualifying campaign and to showcase the longest rivalry in international soccer. The Knights were unable to win the game in the end, their 15th loss in the 25 game series, but overall it was a great matchup for the Knights. Backup goalie Logan Watson got a half of play to get him ready for the tournament and everyone on both sides was rather happy with the goings on in the game.

Dear Jarry,

I have arrived safely at the hotel. It's very grand and it has an amazing pool. You would love it. I spent this afternoon at a meeting with the team, but this evening I had to myself, and I just relaxed. It was nice after such a busy time getting ready for the trip. I already miss you guys. When I was on the plane, I realized that I had forgotten the camera. It's alright. I'll take pictures with my phone, they just won't be as good. I wish that you guys could have come with me for the time leading up to the games. I can't wait for you to get here. Tell your dad and sister that I miss you terribly (I will tell them too of course.) I want regular reports on how your swim team is doing ;p. Tell me if you get a new record! Anyway, I should be getting back to work. I'm working on a new drill to do with the team. They may be grown men, but you can always practice more. And I swear, sometimes it can be just like when I was working with the kids in the park.

Missing you so much! Hugs and Kisses!
Love,
Mom

Group Overview / Reill N'sauier

The Glaserians were drawn in pot 5 (a nice little achievement) into group number 20. Let's talk about that.

First match at Kinzar: A quite even match at an away game. Sources predict the Hudson Stadium won't be full, so not a lot of fan pressure will be on the boys. A good result would be a draw, but maybe by luck we can snatch a win on this one.

Second match at Landpolis: A small team we are able and should beat, as they are unranked. They come back after a long hiatus from world cup 59, although a packed "National Stadium" with 74,000 viewers may be a bit of a nuisance.

Third match against Perlasilangan: We really don't know much about Perlasilangant but they reached the recent Baptism of Fire's round of sixteen after qualifying in the playoffs, and lost to Armakistan in penalties. Glaser's team would want to win this one and give themselves a glimmer of hope to qualify.

Fourth match at Neuerland: Also a squad we don't know much about and is headed by manager Bruno Feldmann. His lads would like to try and defeat Glaser, but anything but a win against this unranked nation would destroy Glaser mentally.

Fifth match against The Archregimancy: The first really tough match, that fortunately we have at home. The Dragons will have to use all it's resources including The Dragons of Gate 5, Frund, and of course, the players to even tie against this team which is ranked 7 (!).

Sixth match at German American States: A decent squad that on the away terms The Dragons will hope for a miracle. Most likely that it's star Baumgartner will decimate Glaser's men.

Seventh match against Chiata: A interesting match. Chiata is of course 48 places above Glaser, but you will never know what Meliss' eleven might do in some kind of situation. This is a match that every header, every pass, every slide, counts.
