Tri-Hop I (RP/Roster/Results)

Postby HopNation » Tue Feb 25, 2014 11:57 am

Welcome to the first Tri-Hop, HopNations official Triathlon series. The Tri-Hop will consist of three distances and be spread over a couple week time period in order to give athletes a chance to partake in each series if they so wish. There will also be three courses for each distance, making for some varying scenery for the athletes to enjoy as they travel throughout HopNation.

About HopNation
HopNation is a large Nation and is separated into four states of roughly equal size. The people of HopNation are referred to as Hoptonians and they are a Nation of Brewers, fiercely patriotic, and enjoy life to the fullest. They pride them selves in their brewing and almost all things relate to this. Brewing is so much a part of their lives that the national currency is the BEER (more here: Power of Beer), but don’t expect to see a bunch of drunken Hoptonians wondering around as they are not drunks or alcoholics. On the contrary they are extremely responsible with their drinking of homebrews, plus any form of public intoxication has been met with public shaming almost to the point of the individual fleeing the nation. Besides their love of brewing the people of HopNation are a friendly bunch and welcome anyone into their nation that wishes to visit peacefully, so ’come in peace or don’t come at all’ as the Hoptonians often say.

Travel in HopNation
Once you’re in HopNation there are many ways to get around and they include; bus, car, train, and plane. Each has its advantages and disadvantages depending on how far you would like to go or which route you choose to take. HopNation is separated into three portions by its two mountain ranges (The Hallertautops and Saaz Mountains). These three sections are divided into four states, Copperwies, Dunklevine, Bondporter, and Hefebayern. Dunkelvine and Bondporter are both located between the two mountain ranges with Dunklevine making up the northern and Bondporter the southern parts of this central region. Copperwies is located to the east of the Saaz Mountains, while Hefebayern is located to the west of The Hallertautops (map). If you have to travel from one side of the Nation to the other, or even over one of the mountain ranges, it is advised that you use either train or plane, as driving in any fashion will take a considerable amount of time and if a road through the mountains gets blocked with snow (heavy snowfall year round is common at high altitude) it could be days before it is open again. Many of the cities also have a light rail or monorail system in place for getting around, which can be extremely useful during times of high traffic. You also might be concerned with paying for rental cars, train and plane tickets, or possibly even souvenirs, well don’t be afraid as there are many currency exchanges located through out many of the train or bus stations, airports, and rental car shops. These exchange banks will accept any foreign currency and provide you with the needed BEER for use while in HopNation.

Miscellaneous
Please use this thread for all RPing and use the Sign-up/OOC for anything else.

Although a roster isn’t necessarily needed, especially since there is a list of Triathletes included in another section, I encourage you to post one as it can give other participants a better understanding of your Triathletes in case they would like to include them in their own RP. Some things to consider when developing a roster:
List your Triathletes and give a small description of them
Best Distance
Best Discipline (Swim, Bike, Run)
Some of their best performances (if any)
What will they be wearing during competition – uniform, bicycle they are riding, shoe brand, or any sponsors on their uniforms

Any roster posted will be included in the MD1 scorination RP bonus (treated as a standard RP).

Other relevant information should be contained in the next few posts and remember if you have any questions please either TG HopNation or post in the Sign-up/OOC.

Good Luck!

Distance and Course Details

Postby HopNation » Tue Feb 25, 2014 11:58 am

(current series view able all, others in spoilers)
Distance Details – NOTE: drafting while cycling is allowed at all distances so if RPing penalties of some kind please make note of this.
Sprint Series – 750 meter swim (0.5 miles), 20 km bike (12.4 miles), and 5 km run (3.1 miles)
The Sprint Series is the shortest of the three events in the Tri-Hop and should be the fastest event with best times coming in around the one (1) hour mark or better. The Sprint Series will also have a maximum time of three (3) hours, at which time the current course will be closed and any remaining athletes still on it will be given a DNF (Did Not Finish) result.

Olympic Series – 1.5 km swim (0.93 miles), 40 km bike (24.8 miles), and 10 km run (6.2 miles)
The Olympic Series is one of the more common distances and even though some events very a little on their design we will be using the standard distances, this should produce times in the one (1) hour fifty (50) minute range for the best athletes. This distance will have a maximum time of six (6) hours, at which time the course will be closed and any remaining athletes will be removed and given a time of DNF (Did Not Finish).

Ironman Series (Full) – 3.86 km swim (2.4 miles), 180.25 km bike (112 miles), and 42.2 km run (26.2 miles)
The final and longest distance of the Tri-Hop will be the Ironman Series. This is perhaps the distance that laymen refer to when thinking or talking about triathlons. For this distance the best athletes should produce times just over eight (8) hours. The Ironman will have a closing or maximum time allowed of seventeen (17) hours, at that point the course will be close and any remaining athletes will be removed and given a DNF (Did Not Finish) result.

Courses
Any and all roadways will be barricaded off so no interruptions of the race will take place, for those sections that use roadways. Any section that takes place on a trail will be described in each section. For other details on course please review each section below.

Sprint Series
Course 1 – Schmutzig Hund: Zorg, Copperwies
The Schmutzig Hund will have two staging areas and a final finish line. There will be one at the start of the swim section and then a second at the exit of the swim. The second staging area, where athletes exit the water, is the main staging area and will be where both the cycling and running portions start, finaly there will be a finishing stage at the end of the run. This course will have the triathletes starting upstream of Zorg in The Goldinfusion River and then exiting near the center of downtown Zorg in the staging area. They will then follow a road cycling course through the streets of Zorg that will loop back to the staging area, this is a very flat fast cycling route. After the cycling portion they will again head out on the streets of Zorg for the running section. The run will follow the roadways along the river and head south to the finish line.

Course 2 – Nasser Hund: Bayern, Hefebayern
There will be a single staging area for this course and it will be on the northern side of Saccharific Lake, all stages will be an out and back format. This course’s swimming stage will take place in Saccharific Lake and will be an out and back swim where the athletes follow a series of buoys, keeping those buoys on their left side for the entire swim going around the final buoy and then returning to the start. Once they have exited the water they will pass through the staging area to their bicycles and head north on the cycling section. This cycling portion will turn around at the base of The Hallertautops Mountain Range and head back to the staging area. The athletes will return their bicycles to the staging area and head to the east on the road running course. The running course will follow the roadways of Bayern and loop back around the cities central park, ending back at the staging area. The cycling course is a gradual uphill climb on the way out and then entirely downhill on the way back to the staging area. The running course is very flat, but is on a winding roadway with views of the lake to the south and the mountain range can be seen between buildings on to the north.

Course 3 – Haarigen Hund: Glacier, Dunklevine
There will be one staging area for this sprint course in Glacier and it is located on the shores of Spargewater Lake near the foot of the Saaz Mountain range. The swim will be a looping course that looks like a water droplet the buoys are viewed from above, starting from the eastern shore and heading out towards the middle of the lake. The athletes will then make their way through the staging area and head out on their bicycles towards the mountains. This is a rather hilly course headed to the foot of the mountains with two major climbs in both directions as it follows the same road out and back with the turn around just before a major climb into the mountains. The surface of this road is very smooth and should allow for good speed down each hill. The run will start after the athletes return to the staging area and then head south along the lake. This is a trail run that goes in to one of the Hop Forests (Chinooki Grove) and loops back on the trail system to the finish line at the staging area. The trail is rolling hills and made up of moderately packed gravel, it is clear of any obstacles and is carved through the forest.

Olympic Series
Course 1 – Mountain View: Sundown, Hefebayern
This course has two staging areas, a swim start staging area and a bike/run staging area. The swim will start at the headwaters of the Decant River and head south to Sundown, where the athletes will exit the water at the northern part of Sundown. The river in this section has a rather fast current so swim times should be fast as they will be going with the rivers current. As for the run and the bike section, they will both be on a roadway that travels along the base of the mountains with the city on the west and mountains on the east of the road. It is a winding semi-flat road that has some rolling hills, more so on the cycling route as it goes much further than the running section does. This road is a smooth surface road and should be fairly quick both for running and cycling.

Course 2 – Lake View: Bramling Admiral, Bondporter
This course will be set on the south side of Spargwater Lake in the city of Bramling Admiral. The swim course will be an out and back with a fishing pier separating the outbound and inbound swimmers. A single staging area will be available for the transition from swimming to cycling and then to running, and it is located on the north side of Bramling Admiral. The cycling route heads to the east out of the city along the lake shore it then turns around and again follows the lake shore back to the staging area. The roadway is very flat with patches of gravel that cyclists will need to avoid as the roadway is in need of repair in those sections of gravel. The running section heads west from the staging area and goes into the city park, looping to the outside of the park and then back to the finish at the staging area. The running section is also flat and is a mix of paved and gravel walking trails.

Course 3 – Prairie View: Chinook, Hefebayern
This course will have a starting staging area, two transition staging areas, and a finish staging area. The first, or starting staging area will be along the south western shore of Saccharific Lake. This will take the athletes out along the shoreline of the lake to the transition from swim to cycle. The athletes will then head west out into the plains of Hefebayern, this will loop around to the south and back to the southern edge of Chinook where the next transition area will be set up. They will then exit this transition area onto the streets of Chinook and follow the roads to the north ending just shy of the swimming start area. The cycling section is very flat and riders will need to be mindful of the gusty winds that whip across the grass lands. It is a smooth road surface and could have fast times depending on the direction of the wind. The running section is sheltered from any wind as it goes through the downtown area and back to the north. The roadways are good, but some potholes could be present.

Ironman Series
Course 1 – Widow Maker: Rainiernugget, Dunklevine
This course will have a single staging area located on the western side of Spargewater Lake. The swim will head out into the middle of the lake and then loop to the north and back west to the transition area. Athletes will then mount their bicycles and head west northwest towards The Hallertautops. The cycling course will have a gradual climb to the base of the mountain range and then turn south to climb the eastern side of the mountains. Near the half way point of the ride they will turn around and come back down the mountains, the return road will turn to the east and follow a much flatter return road back to the staging area. They will then transition to the run which will have the athletes heading south along the lakes shoreline. The road will turn once again towards the mountains and they will turn around after a gradual climb to the mountain range base and then turn around and follow the same route back to the finish. All roadways on this course are maintained extremely well and there should be no worries about its surface. The climb on the cycling section can be steep at points but moderate throughout.

Course 2 – Todeslauf : Willamettus, Bondporter
This course will be set on the Eastern shores of Spargwater Lake and have a single staging area. The swim will be a looping course that starts off following the line to the north and then circling back around to the west before its final section that will bring the swimmers back south and east into the staging area. From here the cycling portion will head straight east through town and towards the Saaz Mountains, this is a winding road route that will have a steady climb up a section of the mountain before turning around and following the same roadway back to the staging area. The final stage, the run stage will start to the south and then follow the city streets, this section would look almost like a square when seen from a map view and will encompass most of the town before it finishes back at the staging area.

Course 3 – Lebenslauf: Sundown, Hefebayern (start) – Gawkasneer, Bondporter (finish)
This is the only course that will start in one HopNation State and end in a different HopNation State. The starting area for the swim will be on the northeastern side of Sundown and the swimmers will head downstream to the exit and transition stage to the cycling section. From here the athletes will ride across Hefebayern and through Bayern on the north side of Saccharific Lake with the next staging area on the eastern side of Bayern. They will then continue to head east out of this staging area following the roads that lead to the south of The Hallertautops. The finish line will be just inside the city limits of Gawkasneer which is located just over the boarder of Bondporter. The cycling section should be fairly flat with a couple moderate hills mixed in and will be all paved roadways. The run will follow some scenic trails once they get near the southern tip of the mountains, before the trails will be all paved roadways as will the last few kilometers into Gawkasneer.

Format and other Event Details
Each distance will be done separately with the Sprint Series going first followed by the Olympic Series and finally the Ironman Series. Since these are considered separate events there will be no RP bonus carry over between the series. Based on the number of sign-ups there will be two groups for the Sprint Series, three groups for the Olympic Series, and two groups for the Ironman Series. The events will have three qualifying rounds, from which the top four Triathletes from each group will advance to the winner take all final for that distance, so for all three distances the match days and courses will be (subject to change and course number is for that distances corresponding course):

Sprint Olympic Ironman
Qualifiers Qualifiers Qualifiers
MD1: 3-4 (course 1) MD5: 3-8 (course 2) MD9: 3-12 (course 3)
MD2: 3-5 (course 3) MD6: 3-9 (course 3) MD10: 3-13 (course 2)
MD3: 3-6 (course 2) MD7: 3-10 (course 1) MD11: 3-14 (course 1)
Final Final Final
MD4: 3-7 (course 3) MD8: 3-11 (course 1) MD12: 3-15 (course 1)

The hope is that match day 1 will be on 3-4-14 and the final match day would then fall on 3-15-14. With a 3-4 start date that should give all participants 48 hours from the time the sign-ups are closed to the first cut-off (between 9 and 10 PM EST). If there are any change to the cut-off time a prior post will indicate the change, but hopefully this is not needed but we all know how RL can be.

RPing is a component of NS Sports, it is encouraged, and can make events more enjoyable for you and others involved. It can have an effect on how your Triathlete(s) do, however it does not guarantee their success as there is always some randomness involved. The RP Bonus will be a combination of a Triathletes rank and the bonus for each match day. This will be cumulative up to the end of a series and then reset for the next series with no carry forward, other than Triathlete Rank.

In the xkoranates Triathlon settings there is the possibility for a Triathlete to not finish, listed as DNF (did not finish). Although this possibility cannot be removed (choose not to delete it from the XML file) the overall percent for this to happen has been adjusted in an effort to reduce the number of DNFs per scorination, but know that the possibility is still there and can make for some interesting RP angles if it does happen. This does not mean your (the) Triathlete has been eliminated from the entire competition, it will simply mean he/she receives the lowest possible points for that day.

Scoring Breakdown
Each match day will have a point value given to each triathlete based on the finishing position within their respective group. The total maximum for the three qualification days will be 30 points or 10 points per day if finishing in first place for each day.

1st – 10pts
2nd – 8pts
3rd – 6pts
4th – 5pts
5th – 4pts
6th – 3pts
7th – 2pts
8th – 1pts

(subject to change if group size is not 8 triathletes)

Tiebreakers (if needed and I do not foresee that anything past the first tiebreaker will be used but know they are there just in case.)
Any tie in points involving a triathlete in a qualifying position will be decided on the following measures.

First – Total Time
Second – Total time less first MD time
Third – Third MD time (total time less first and second MD times)
Fourth – single scorination between the individuals (coin flip if you will)

Arnold Erdmann Stumpf
Arnold is not the greatest triathlete to come out of HopNation, he might not even be the third best but as the nation failed to enter more than the three triathletes he was ready to take his place. Arnold excels at the shorter distances and he is hoping to improve on his crappy showing in the last event where he failed to make it out of the qualifying group. When watching him compete he does seem like an alright athlete, but put him in the water and he looks like a drowned cat struggling to keep afloat. If we had to choose a best attribute for Arnold it would have to be his cycling ability, he really knows how to ride so we'll look for him to make up anything lost in the swim on the bike. Arnold will be competing in the Sprint and the Olympic Distance in this Tri-Hop.

Jörg Ulrich Halle
Halle is an up can comer who finished in an excellent fourth place spot in his last event. He started off a bit shaky but in the end performed with some of the best times in his group to make in onto the final stages. Halle really is an all around Traithlete as he doesn't have an area that we consider his best, though he prefers the shorter distances. If we had to pick a best discipline for him it would be his running, which is where he caught many athletes that were ahead of him after both the swimming and cycling stages. He should excel in any of the stages this time as he has been developing his training to cover longer distances, he is however only entered in the Sprint and Olympic distances for this Tri-Hop. Expect him to finish near the top of his group.

Warren VonHopton
The veteran, the rock to this team. VonHopton is an excellent triathlete and has proven his age is no match for others he competes with. With his most recent endeavor ending with him standing at the top of the podium he is expected to do well here as well. The one thing that gets VonHopton in trouble sometimes is his swimming, something he has been working on but it is still his worst discipline. On the other hand his cycling and running are both top notch. He had the fastest cycling/running split in the final stage of the tournament he finished first in so look for him to try and repeat that performance here as well. He is entered in all of the distances for this Tri-Hop and we fully expect him to place in the top end of his groups and possibly the finals of each distance.

Carson Star in the Tri-Hop I

About Carson Star

The 19 year-old-boy will be entering his first international tournament, playing in all three divisions: sprint, Olympic, and Ironman. Star United States offered to bring one triathlete to the Tri-Hop I, and Star won the national division qualifiers.

Carson Star was born in the buzzing City of Star, the capital city of Star United States. He started training for an Olympic-style triathlon at the age of 15, but he started performing triathlons at the age of 7.

Carson shows his best strength in the running portion of the triathlon, but he isn't a failure at cycling or swimming. Since triathlons are recognized nationally in Star United States, he competed in his middle school team breaking every record he could, and in his high school team, which in fact got him a scholarship to go to one of the best universities in Star United States.

As he was being interviewed he was asked: "What if you fail at the Tri-Hop?" And his answer was: "Just gotta keep going, I'm not gonna win everything, and if I fail to win anything, I'll look at what I did wrong and continue from there."

The Tri-Hop I - Sprint Division Preview

Starting on March 4, 2014, Star United States' Carson Star will start on the sprint portion of the Tri-Hop. Since he's sign up for all three divisons, he has a challenge in front of him.

Carson has been placed into Group C of the Sprint section along with: VonHopton, Majifi, Stumpf, Chultz, Vandry, Oskejolia, and Darael. One of the most famous sports critics in Star United States said the following: "SUS should have placed C'urz into the tournament instead." But others have said: "Star will do amazing." and "SUS didn't make a mistake by placing Carson into the Tri-Hop."

Star will play his first international match on March 4, 2014 on the Schmutzig Hund in Zorg, Copperwires. He will continue the qualifiers on March 6 and 7. If qualified, he'll place the final on March 7, 2014.

Best of luck to all the triathletes!

WODILHILT BRAUN AND RICHARD LEE TO TAKE PART IN THE TRI-HOP I

It's a glorious day for sport in Seahold: for the first time ever, the Grand Duchy will be represented in an international competition.

The young Wodilhilt Braun (18) and Richard Lee (21) will soon compete in the Tri-Hop I, facing triathletes from HopNation (the competition's host), Anditia, Britonisea, Ceni, Chiata, Cornupication, Inventio, Kannap, Mizuyuki, New North Aqmuland, Rohane Alista and the Star United States.

Veronica Braun, born in Greenborough in 1995, has been a runner ever since she was 11; her P.E. teacher, impressed by her physical prowess, recommended her to the local Ducal Athletics Association - five years later, she was among the best runners in the country, and won two national championships wearing the blue uniform of her team.

Richard Lee, born in Greenborough in 1992 from a Han father and a mestizo mother, ran for the West Greenborough Olympians from the age of 14 until the age of 19. Since then, he belongs to the Army's Green Berserkers; in the Army, he also took up swimming and cycling. After a chance encounter with Braun, she started swimming and biking as well.

They are both good runners, and excel at long distances - having ran several marathons. Aside from running, Lee's strong suit is swimming, while Braun's is cycling. "We are going against experienced triathletes, and victory isn't assured" says Lee, "but we will do our best. I can't wait for the Ironman."

"Just by taking part in the Tri-Hop I, they are making Seahold proud" is the reply of the Minister of Culture and Sport, Mary O'Brien. "I'm sure the Tri-Hop I will be an opportunity for the rest of the world to get to know our Grand Duchy, and vice versa. It will also allow us to see how we, and our athletes, can improve."

The Cornupication Cross
Bringing news to your eyeballs

Today marks the arrival of two fresh athletes to the Tri-athlon Series of HopNation. This is a thrilling day for all Cornupicans, as this is merely the second event that has been attended in a different nation by our fine athletes. If all goes to plan, the first event will be taking place today so I have refrained from asking for interviews until now to ensure I do not disturb the intense preparation period.

For anyone who is in the dark about these athletes, first of all - have you been living under a rock for ten years?
In this event, we first have Hvoalinx Idnoralkis. This young man, barely 21 years of age is the first ever graduate of the government run "toddlers to triathletes" scheme. Despite the name, this scheme picks out potential star toddlers, looking at a range of variables from what age they learned to walk, to their DNA sequencing. They are then taken from their homes (with a suitable cash settlement given to the parents, of course), and a demanding training scheme set on them from day one. The training scheme takes all risks of injury away, so as such the athletes train running by running on the spot in a padded room, cycling by laying on their back and pedalling their feet in the air and they learn to swim on an aqua coloured carpet. This course started almost 20 years ago today, and we are immensely proud to see our first valedictorian graduate making the grand stage here at HopNation.

Secondly, we have Bronsje Oskejolia. Bronsje is what we call an "old-school" athlete, who has felt the cool breeze of the air, the metal frame between his legs and the slightly dodgy taste of the sea water in his life. at 29 years of age, he has competed in numerous triathlons in Cornupication, winning three and placing in the top five for all the rest. He does have a weakness, however. Years of competing have left his shoulders weakened and with a reduced range of movement, so his swimming is not as strong as it was when he was in his prime. However, he more than makes up for it in cycling, and is considered the nation's all time strongest cyclist. This surely has to bring a certain "X Factor" to the international stage.

Whatever the outcome for the athletes here at the Tri-Hop, I can say with full certainty that the nation will welcome them back as sporting heroes, and people to be admired. This story will continue as the series progresses.

The Next Big Thing

After almost a year's hiatus from international competition to focus on training, Alder Yurov has returned to the international scene in a big way, attempting to qualify for the World Championships at the very first race it is possible to do so in this year. But he isn't the only athlete from Rohane Alista competing this year- newcomer Kristen Roedder has taken up the mantle on the womens side. In an exclusive interview, Kristen told us "Well, I was really inspired by watching Mr. Yurov race. I mean, you could really see the passion in him, and even when he got injured in the second STWT he just never gave up. I guess it was then that I decided to switch from mountain biking to triathlon, and I think it's been pretty good for me! Of course biking is still my best event, but I'm not going to lose in running or swimming either!" While Alder is only participating in the Ironman and Olympic distances, Kristen will be trying to find her place by competing in all three. Her competition starts later today, and she's in Group A for sprints. In other news, Saten Ruiko, Alder's seemingly fated opponent who defeated him by a very close margin for the bronze in the second STWT, has also returned to the international scene. We have not yet been able to contact her media team, but look forward to the potential for a renewed rivalry pushing them both beyond their best performances so far.

Gebbert Hoffmann – Sports
DAY ONE IN THE BOOKS
Greetings Hoptonians and welcome to our special edition on the Tri-Hop, our very own Triathlon Series. Many of you have probably seen some of this years venues or perhaps you have even seen some of the visiting athletes roaming the streets in your cities as they prepare for the first event in this the inaugural Tri-Hop. For those of you that haven’t seen the GAM yet or didn’t catch Skip Skudkins report the other day the Tri-Hop is a multi-day Triathlon Series which will have three disiplines for the competitors to compete in. They are the Sprint Series, which actually got started yesterday, the Olympic Series, and the Ironman Series to finish things off. There are a total of thirteen Nations and thirty four triathletes visiting HopNation over the next we weeks. Not all of them are competing in each and every series, but a good bulk of them will be around for the entire duration of the event. As for us, we have three individuals entered into the events; and they are Warren VonHopton, Jörg Ulrich Halle, and Arnold Erdmann Stumpf. If you all remember VonHopton is not only our great nations founder, but he was the overall champion of his most recent event the Fourth Star Triathlon Worldwide Tournament. Halle also finished well in that event with a fourth place, while Stumpf couldn’t make it past the group stage. So how are things going so far, since the first Sprint Series event was run yesterday you ask? Well it went off with no major incidents, for one. Second our triathletes are doing very well so far with VonHopton coming in first in his group and posting the days fastest overall time, Halle finished second in his group with a respectable time, and Stumpf seemed to do better with this shorter distance and finished in fourth in his group with VonHopton. The course seemed to be fast and it is actually the newest addition to the many triathlon courses throughout our great nation. The Schmutzig Hund (known as Dirty Dog to some)in Zorg proved to be a good addition too as it produced some wonderful times, perhaps this is due to the river swim, something not many nations have for a Triathlon but we here in HopNation have a couple of them. Looking over the results we only had one competitor who was unable to finish the course in the allotted time, I don’t know of anything else that happened so it was unknown if the athlete was injured or crashed on the cycling section, I welcome any of our readers to send me a message and let me know if they saw anything relating to this athlete.

What are we looking for in today’s event which is to be held on the Haarigen Hund (known as Hairy Dog to some)? Well I’ll be looking for our three individuals to post some good times again, not sure if they will finish up near the top again but it would be nice for them to do so as it could help them make the final of the Sprint Series. They are traveling to Glacier, Dunklevine and will be in Spargewater Lake for the swim which is luckily in one of the bays and shouldn’t have much for wake. Personally I feel that VonHopton will once again win his group, but for the other two I’m not so sure as they have some really good competition with them.

Here are the three triathletes times from day 1:
Halle – 1:10:20.19
VonHopton – 1:00:05.11
Stumpf – 1:42:51.67

Well, check back in tomorrow’s paper for an update on how things went.

RUN RICHARD RUN!
Richard Lee first, Wodilhilt Braun third: Seahold debuts and dominates

Richard Lee and Wodilhilt Braun did what everyone thought impossible: first place for Lee, third place for Braun in the first course of the Tri-Hop's sprint series. They started the race badly, struggling to swim against the Goldinfusion River's strong currents; Lee spent the whole swimming section battling against them and his opponents, and Braun almost drowned halfway through; by the time they got on their bikes, they were respectively sixth and last.

They got better in the cycling section, where Braun managed to climb to the sixth place after a long duel with Kordar, and Lee became fourth. No one could oppose them in the running section of the course: they were simply too fast for everyone else. "If the course had lasted a couple of minutes more I would have surpassed Halle" said Braun "but I am disappointed about the swimming section, it was a complete disaster."

Lee's only reply was, "The next course will be even better."

Vandry Succeeds in Sprint Tri-Hop
Gary Flar--HOP NATION

Since that worked decently well, I'll try again with a different drinking song. This time the semi-national anthem of Sweden drinking song-Helan Går-- really just the first part

James Van-dree sing Hop-Tri la la la la la la
Second C at tri hop de la la la
He did his best and beat the rest. Well almost best and most the rest.
Almost fiiiiiiiiiiiiirst (drink beer) at Hop-Tri la la laaaaaaaaa

In a surprise finish for James Vandry, he was able to pull off the second best finish in Group C of the Sprint portion of the Tri-Hop Triathlon competition yesterday earning himself 8 points in the C group on the first day of competition. He will next compete on the more challenging Haarigen Hund course. Finishing fourth overall (between all groups) bodes well for Vandry as he continues forward in the competition.

CALIHAIN TIMES

A blunder and a recovery

After a dreadful last place finish in the first day of competition, Kristen Roedder bounced back to take 5th in her group today. When asked about the difference she responded "Well yesterday was my first race ever in a major international competition. Nerves got to me, for sure, and it caused me to make a lot of mistakes. Alder and my coach both had some words with me though, let me know it was ok and I just had to race my race, not someone elses, and that really helped me calm down. After that, today was much easier. I just hope I can maintain it!" Kristen was not expected to medal this triathlon, but was seen as a good choice for gaining more experience, and getting Rohane Alista's sports better known. However, there is a lot of hope that she can beat the odds and medal, especially in the sprint, where she is Rohane Alista's only competitor. Most of the sports media's attention has been drawn by Saten Ruiko and Alder Yurov once again racing each other. Many hope this will push them both to greater heights. Alder is currently one of the favorites to win both the olympic and ironman races.

VICTORY AND DEFEAT

Wodilhilt Braun won the second course of the Tri-Hop's sprint series today; she dominated the race from the start of the cycling section to the end. After her, several minutes away, came Halle and Kordar. The cycling section that was the beginning of Braun's domination, however, was also the end for Richard Lee's race: a problem to the brakes of his bike made him crash against the base of one of the mountains of the Hallertautops Range; he only sustained a few scratches, but he had to abandon his bike and the race. "I was second, and then the brakes started acting weird. I guess I should be happy that I'm not in a hospital right now, but I'm really pissed off. I was so sure I would have made all my opponents eat water and dirt on this course. I am glad Wodilhilt avenged me, though."

SECOND TO THIRD
Well another day has come and gone with another great course covered in the Sprint Series of the Tri-Hop. The athletes got to embark on Haarigen Hund in the city of Glacier, Dunklevine. This course is a very nice course and has been part of the HopNation triathlon circuit for many years now. The swim is relatively easy, the cycling section can be a little tough but nothing a good athlete can’t handle, and the run section is amazing as it winds thought the Chinooki Grove. From glancing over the results there were a couple surprises in there, like Richard Lee from Seahold who was expected to follow up his day one results with another strong finish but he had some issues with his bike and was unable to finish the course. As for our triathletes, it seemed everything is still going according to plan with two of them finishing second and the third finishing, well, third. From what I gathered after speaking with VonHopton prior to the start was they are simply looking at making it to the final of the event, as he said “We need to just stay in the hunt, if we fail to make it past these first three days then we haven’t prepared enough.”. They seem to be in good positions to do just that and move on to the final of the Sprint Series, but with one day left on the short courses anything can happen. From looking over the numbers and possibilities of today’s outing, Halle and VonHopton should be moving on while Stumpf still needs to perform well in order to make it. Group B looks to be the toss up group where almost anyone could still make it to the final, that is with a strong showing.

Today they move to the Nasser Hund course in Bayern which is in the state of Hefebayern. This course is another lake swim so we don’t expect triathletes to have much trouble there, but you never know as this one is an out and back where the possibility of some swimming out while others are on their way back in. Halle told me he was looking forward to the cycling section of this course saying, “It will be a hard ride out, but then super fast on the return love that downhill half. Might be a crash or two in the curvy section though so watch out”, he also told me it is not a super hard ride out, just moderate but what makes it hard is that your going up hill the whole first half of the ride. All three of our triathletes were looking forward to the run section of this course as it is through the streets of Bayern and the crowd should be good to cheer all of them on.

Their times from the Haarigen Hund:
Halle – 1:19:54.88
VonHopton – 1:21:48.1
Stumpf – 1:22:34.91

So we wish them luck in this final day before the Sprint Series Final and check back tomorrow for more.

Vandry secures advance
Gary Flar--HOP NATION

Once again in honor of the Hop-Nation's pro-beer stances, the following article should be considered a re-write of the drinking song In Heaven There Is No Beer.

At Tri-Hop we came to compete
And others Vandry did beat
He advances a head of time
And next round he'll be doing more than fine.

[spoken]Way to go James!
The sprint course was more than rough
And Vandry was more than tough
Next he'll face Course Two
At Nasser Hund he'll face rest the crew.

Tri hop hop hop hop hop
Tri hop hop hop hop hopppp
Tri hop hop hop hop hop
Tri hop hop hop hop hop hop hop haaaahp....

Corupication Cross
Bringing News to your eyeballs
DAY TWO OF THE HOPNATION TRIATHLON
Cornupication has been awash with sporting news as of late - with athletes in several nations competing in different sports for the glory of Cornupication. Today's news however, pins the spotlight on one of the men looking to make Triathlon History in Cornish records.
Today we're following Hvoalinx Idnoralkis in the first HopNation Triathlon in the second day of the Sprint Series. The athletes travelled to Bayern for the second stage - Nasser Hund.
Hvoalinx was racing in Group B with athletes such as George Jordan and Kwame Olujawuje. The triathlon started in Saccharific Lake, where... things didn't quite to plan. Hvoalinx is still getting used to the water, and if you remember from earlier reports about our athletes, he'd never actually been in a lake before the start of this series. Thanks to this, he spent 85% of the time in the water flailing like a drowning cat, with no real progress being made for a good fifteen minutes. Thankfully, however, somehow he managed to compose himself on the turn back to shore and caught up the group. Though, he was still in last place and desperate to earn more points than the first round.

The transition period saw a positive change. The gradual uphill climb on the way up expended a lot of energy, though it was excusable as the track followed the same style as the swimming stage and looped back on itself, leading to an easy return journey downhill. Hvoalinx didn't try to jump ahead. Instead, he stayed behind two racers and made use of the slipstream, making his uphill slightly easier for the most part. Then, in the last 300m before the turn back downhill he made a dash for the front of the group and turned ahead of the others. This burst of speed into the downhill section meant full steam ahead for the young athlete and a chance to recover some well needed oxygen before the final stage.

The pack looked good for our athlete - he was currently in 2nd place and holding a good pace as he left the transition to running, and into the twisty roads. However, the Gods of Triathlon were not on his side as he slowly ran out of steam and his performance started to slowly collapse - like a flan that's been left in a cupboard. By the town centre, he had fallen to sixth place, and had a lot of catching up to do. It looked like he was gearing up for a final sprint to glory, would he do it?
No. He wouldn't, but in the closing few hundred metres he managed to one up on Kwame Olujawuje and manage to clear the finish line seconds before to secure fifth place.

Hvoalinx now sits in fourth place going into the final stage, the last qualifying spot in his group. We'll let you know the result of that - but the main highlight will be set on Bronsje Oskejolia as he hopes to climb up the table into a qualifying position for the final. Stay tuned for tomorrow's article.

Seahold Daily News

WHITE ARROWS FLY ON THE LAKE'S SHORES
Braun first, Lee fifth - both advance to the next phase of the tournament

The shores of the Goldinfusion Lake have been more than kind to our athletes: Wodilhilt Braun spent the entirety of the race in pole position, while Richard Lee did better than in the second course, surviving the climbs and hills of the Halllertautops Mountains, with his brakes intact, ending the race behind Braun, Ogiue, Halle and Kordar. "By the time I stepped down my bike and started to run my legs already hurt - those mountains seem to have been brought here from Hell itself" said Lee "but I didn't give up, and managed to not lose any ground to my opponents." The real hero of the day, however, is Wodilhilt Braun, that won her second race in a row. "A third place and two first places? Not bad. I'd say I hope to do just as well in the next phase, but after what happened to Richard, it's better if I keep my mouth shut."

Both Braun and Lee have advanced to the Olympic series of the tournament, along with Jörg Ulrich Halle (HopNation) and Haruko Ogiue (Mizuyuki).
